Congratulations on your monumental accomplishment of Fancy Boots. Such an amazing piece of art 😍
Wise advice on picking projects. I also have come to believe that more careful consideration, planning, preparing fabric & thread & even test stitching to assess thread against fabric should be practiced. I wish I had taken these things into account on many of my projects before plunging into the stitching. I have learned so much & as of Nov I’m starting with my oldest WIP & working a schedule to get it completed. Then I’ll move onto the next and so on. At least I can begin to make more informed cross stitch decisions. It really has decreased my anxiety to just focus on what I have & already started & truly enjoy each project.

Wonderful work!!!! It is a gorgeous piece and challenging as looks to have confetti on each page. You must be a fairly fast stitcher since I think that amount of time to finish was amazing. I am glad that you started by touching upon a subject that is very interesting to me: when I look at stitchers starting over ten large full-coverage pieces I wonder if they truly want to finish them one day or else... what is the point.
I also really enjoyed hearing the info about the original painting and its author, thank you for them. And you mentioning the kind of luck you can have while taking up a great adventure such as travelling thousands of km to see a painting... made me laugh, because it actually happened to me back in 2013. Well, what would life be without these stories every now and then?

🦋 Hello to you, I wonder sometimes, (and maybe you do too) when I see so many large pieces started whether stitching becomes quite stressful in some cases rather than the gentle and calming art that it is meant to be. I also have form on missing out on something I wanted to see. I remember it to this day. It was the Great Bed of Ware in the Victoria and Albert museum and my sister and missed it because the museum closed early that day! lol such is life. I wonder now why we were so keen to see it in the first place! Happy Stitching! xx:):)🌹

So gorgeous. What dedication. I can only stitch on a piece for a couple of days then I have to move on though I do a mid sized sampler for September. I have 4 living children and many grand children. They don’t seem interested in my work though all have Christmas stockings that I’ve stitched for them. Hubby is supportive of my work but not appreciative. He might think differently if I did a piece like yours but at almost 3/4 of a century old, I don’t think I could finish one. He really likes the quilts I’ve made though.

Thank you for sharing your treasure. I now have another wonderful movie to save and watch many times. Like you, I never know if anyone will love my work. I have yet to know where my bobbin lace table cloth will go. It lies wound around a big cone and wrapped in a sheet. It was a 3 year project and is very big. You very much think like I do. If you start a piece, it could take years to complete. I will await to see you again.

I have to say, after seeing your beautiful stitching of Fancy Boots and the completion of it in all of its amazingly framed glory - I'm very tempted to stitch it myself and will be ordering the chart. The gentleman's boots are definitely the eyecatcher of the piece, but I also think the table cloth is exquisite. Its just lovely!
On my end, all is well Mary Rose and I'm not too far now from completing The Nativity and am still working on the mammoth Disney piece on 18 count and it's looking very good. They are both looking very nice in fact and hope to have them finished by this summer.
Just a very quick question Mary Rose; With regards to stitching large and full coverage pieces, do you or have you ever washed your pieces at intervals throughout the stitching as I'm finding I'm having to do on the large projects. I always follow the correct behaviours like washing my hands before each stitching session etc, but still find they get grimy.
I just think it's nice to keep them fresh and clean even throughout the process.
Ps: Like yourself, I also like to use my trusted hoops even when stitching large pieces and couldn't agree more with you when you've said you prefer to be up close and personal when stitching - I agree! 👍🏻. In the earliest days when I began to cross stitch, I purchased an embroidery frame with the best of intentions of using it, but just couldn't get used to it. It wasn't a great investment in hindsight (for me at least) and might think about selling it on one day. You can't beat a good old hoop in my opinion.

🦋 Hello to you Chris and a very Happy New Year to you and yours. My husband also likes that tablecloth and thinks it is quite exquisite, so you are in good company there! I usually wash my work at the end of stitching to set the stitches and I only wash it once, unless of course the Aida is so stiff I have to wash it to soften it up before I begin stitching, but I have only had to do that once. Would you believe that I have a problem similar to your own in that I am now 70 and I have pieces that I would like to stitch that I may never get to start. I don’t mind telling you that I had a little anxiety on the last pages of Fancy Boots, thinking in the back of my mind how awful it would be if I were to meet my glorious maker before completing that piece. I think it was because it was so large as well - the thought of all that area covered with stitches and with just a tantalisingly small amount of empty fabric to be covered. The frame and mats you chose are perfect complements for the piece. And museum glass was also well worth it - the piece warrants it. Well done, Mary. Ohhhhhh Mary Rose ,what an achievement this Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious !!! Is ,it is amazing ,the hours you have put into this stunning piece of artwork .l could not even imagine the heavy confetti that you have had to stitch .l would be honored if l was a family member to be inheriting such a stunning crossstitch to look at each and every day .l too stitch with a 7 “ hoop but nothing have l ever stitched would come even close to this piece .l am looking forward to seeing what you are stitching next ,and harlequin is such a wonderful husband to give you such encouragement.you must have very good eyesight or very good glasses to be able to stitch so beautifully.until the next time ,happy stitching .🥰💕🥰💕🥰❤️💕🥰💕❤️🥰
