      It's never too late. Don't be afraid to show that weakness and admit to her what you feel. It's okay to apologize to your children.
      My father left before I was 2 and I grew up without him. It took him until I was nearly 25 years old to admit he regretted it and at the same time that I was dealing with the question "Why didn't he want me?", he was dealing with the grief of knowing that he screwed up and lost his chance to have me in his life while I was still young.
      Had he contacted me and explained things to me, or even told me in person the very few times that we did talk in person, he would have saved me a lot of pain. I grew up thinking I was a mistake. That does a lot of damage to a little boy. Think back to the question he gave in the video.
      TL;DR? Talk to your daughter. Let down the Dad guard, let the mask slip. Tell her you feel like you could have done better in some areas and tell her you're sorry if there's anything that you didn't get right.
      Ask her questions. Find out where she's at mentally so you two can get on the same page and build a stronger relationship.
      It's never too late.
      My dad waited over 20 years. All he needed to do was talk to me instead of pretending nothing happened.

    Best advice I was ever given as a dad was from a pastor friend of mine. He said to me "I told my children early on that I have Plenty of friends. But only two children. We can be friends, but I will always be your father. Dont forget that."
    In other words...I'm your dad...not your friend. In doing that his kids wound up with something better. An authority figure who was their best friend.

      That's just part of the game my man. I have 2 kids and another due in March. I remember being scared to death before my first was born that I wasn't good enough to raise a child. I know I'm not half the dad that my father was to me (at least that's how it feels). I think that just comes from seeing your dad as your biggest hero starting from your earliest memories. You'll have your good days and bad days... you just do the best you can and things tend to work out.

Still, I'm having a wonderful opportunity of working with young kids (ages 6 - 8) and that has been giving me a good insight of what being a father might be like. And for that reason I ran into pretty much the same tips pointed out on this great video.

      There is no one good. Not even one. The best thing you can do is focus on the TRUTH of this world and be an example for not only your kid, but any "kid" you cross paths with in this life. Becoming a parent for the sake of becoming a parent before understanding how and why we were created will only bring strife.

    The one thing I’ve learned after being a father of a boy and a girl for 22 years… listen more than talk when it comes to your kids. If they want your help they will come looking for it. I have always tried to push wisdom and experience onto my children and as helpful as it may be, it also makes your kids not want to be around you so much. No one wants to be preached to all the time. I should have just listened more and spoke only when necessary. I know they love and appreciate me, but I think they see me as this constant mentor rather than a fun dad who they feel comfortable opening up to.

      He recalls one of his daughters asking her mum a question, mum says "Ask your father".
      Daughter replied "I don't want to know THAT much about it"
      That stuck with me.

    • @PseudoSarcasm
      @PseudoSarcasm 2 роки тому +1

      @@joecentral-o9984 My mum had a gift of not preaching to us. I later realized that if she saw a problem, she would gently approach us and tell us a very relevant story from her life. No lessons, no judgement, just a story.
      Sometimes we learned, sometimes we didn't, but I think, me, being a *very* stubborn kid, it was the best approach.

    I honestly am astonished and dumbfounded as to how you have not had more views. Don't get me wrong, it is still a substantial amount of people that have watched this and potentially have changed or improved their life as a result. However, taking a step back and watching what the world deems as important (as an example, I typed in, "how to be a better father". Yet when I got to, "how to be a b" the very first suggestion was....."bad bitch". Seriously?!?!?!
    But I digress. Man, I don't know your name, but I thank you for putting up this video. My son is 6 years old, and for the past 2 years I have vigorously been searching within myself to be the best father I can be. It is nice to see other father's searching and figuring out ways to create a better world for their children. Especially with the direction this world that we are presenting to them is heading.
    If you happen to read this, I currently have only watched 2 of your videos. Yet I want to say, keep making more videos! This world needs more enlightened people such as yourself. I have been saying for the past year that I want to make videos. However, I lack the appearance, courage, and the ability to construct verbal thoughts well enough to do so.
    Keep at it bro, I hope all is going well for you and your family!

      That is commendable how you are trying to do double duties. It makes sense that you want to give your children the best childhood possible. Remember that just bc most kids are being raised by a mom and a dad that doesn't always make for a successful upbringing. Give your child a chance to genuinely know you and they will love you all the more. Good luck on your journey. Judging by the fact you took time to watch this video I have no doubt you are a wonderful mother.

      I find winter time with young kids is the hardest on me... I've got 3 under 5 years, and it's a lot more difficult, I feel trapped inside, torn between helping keep the house clean and playing with my kids. Usually we just play, so the house is a mess. Finding ways to de compress is harder too. When the weather's nice we spend all day outside, which when I'm outside I find my stress levels are easily managed. Now as I write this all 3 of my kids have Croup, my wife and I have colds, we're getting no sleep and stuck inside for the holidays... it's rough!!

    I see a lot of fathers-to-be in the comments that have long been fathers. I wonder how they're doing? I myself have 2 girls and 2 boys; ages 9, 7, 5, and 6 months. I think it's important to reflect on your parenting and adjust as necessary. I'm glad I got most of these covered but there's always room for improvement! Fatherhood is truly the best.

    Find it so fascinating this video was in my UA-cam feed minutes after a long conversation with my 9 year old son about life, adversity, and love. Fatherhood has been the most challenging event in my life yet also the most transformative. It has strengthened me in ways I couldn't have imagined before. To all the struggling dads, may God give you the strength you need to keep moving forward. If you're religious, pray for strength to find the way forward and not the way out.

    But I truly believe the number one best thing a dad can do for his children is for them to know and see how much he loves their mother 📖
    My wife left me at the demands of her narcissistic controlling mother and our son is paying the price. But he will always know that his dad loves his mom.

    1. Recognize Difference 2. Eliminate our distraction and spend quality time for child 3. Answer them and let them they are enough 4. Need to look for teaching moments, it is not about discipline. It is the job of father to be a coach 5. Okay to be silly at times with our kids 6. Okay to be nosey- Know what are they being taught, get engaged, get involved 7. Consider getting involved in their extra curricular activities 8. Be the Dad first- It is dad first and be the friend later 9. Get them involved with you- Take them to your shop, to your race be engaged with them 10. Teach your kids the value of hard work, they don't deserve anything by default but they have to work towards it

    Thanks for the video.... One piece of feedback about the visual aspect from a 'photog'. The crop on your head is a tad to tight and the defocus (depth of field) of the back round is a tad to blurry. It makes for a slightly disorienting image. Not trying to be rude, but i think that feedback will make your next videos nicer/easier to look at. Lighting is great though.

Love life lessons, interesting and great to see how little advice can change how you feel and how you deal and make other happy along with your own happiness.

    I know on the internet opinions are cheap, but the best and brightest kids I have ever met are the children who were never baby talked! And explain answers to children so they keep asking questions. I will be honest with my daughter and tell her I don’t know an answer but that I will help her find it. She is so incredibly smart and I just want her to have a wonderful life! Hope this helps someone!!

    Great advice. I would add to teach your children what you weren't or lacked. Showing affection and emotion in our family was looked upon as being soft. Now that I have children I realize that's not true and that its good to show emotions and affection to our children. This teaches my son and daughter that these are qualities of a man I want to be someday or I want to marry someday.

    Distant Fire
    You tried to tell,
    with words-
    didn't listen, just
    kept throwing
    wood into the fire;
    heating a house
    cold of a home,
    spent less time to
    what was on your mind
    with artless words
    voice reaches
    in the small dark,
    gone heart outside
    the wind blows
    breaks ice,
    static time
    makes a way
    into abloom;
    a room a father
    lies dying
    dying lies
    with words-
    that a son
    doesn't hear,
    just keeps
    throwing wood
    into the fire.
