This time I was inspired by Heather ‪@BubblesByHeather‬ although this was a FAIL when it comes to design and just making the soap in general LOL, it is a WIN when it comes to the feel of the soap and lather. I will definitely be trying this again to see if I can do a better jot (following along with how Heather did it in her video 🤓)

    I loved watching the science happen right before my eyes! The color change, the separation, the gelling. This was wonderful to watch. And it wasn't a fail at all! The soap looks wonderful, and has a gorgeous lather! I think you did a great job, Tammy! ☺️

      Thanks Nora! you're right of course, it wasn't really a fail. it was more of an almost fail that I salvaged by the skin of my teeth 😂😂😂 - the only fail was the design, which I am still just a bit bummed about 🤓Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate you!💕

    Nice save! I’ve made soap with beeswax, quite a long time ago. Yes you must melt the beeswax with your hard oils, when those cool and you add your olive oil you may have to heat a little. I think melting point of beeswax is 144 or so. Probably the combination of not melting your beeswax in the oils together at first, then not enough emulsification, how hot it was and the fo was your culprits. It was a hot mess lol. It will be fine if you have the lye and water amounts right. I always hate it when a batch fails..but you are a soap master and saved it!! Great job!-LisaG

      Thanks Lisa!! I appreciate your comment. Def something I learned thought this was to heat the beeswax with my oils. Next time ~if there is a next time 🤓 Kidding - (mostly 😂😂😂)

    Hi Tammy. Beeswax should always be heated in a double boiler because it is highly flammable. We use a sweatshirt, fuzzy side up to filter beeswax and then use that to help start a wood stove. As a beekeeper with lots of beeswax and honey I've used it in many things. I melt it in with my oils, but limit the amount. Both beeswax and honey can really heat up your batter in high amounts. Beeswax does make a harder bar but if used in to high amounts can decrease your lather. It can darken your batter as does honey. Honey does help like sugar does with more bubbles.

      hi there! thanks for all of your info! I will remember that about heating up the beeswax. I was nervous about it heating up my batter, do you think 2% beeswax and 2% honey is too high?🤗

    • @VWeiss-et8pi
      @VWeiss-et8pi Рік тому +1

      @@WalnutCreekBathBoutique Recommendations are 1 to 2 % for beeswax. I always use the lesser amount. Honey is recommended at 1 Tbsp. per pound of oils. I made a 98 oz. batch of soap last week and only used about an ounce. Both can still heat up and accelerate your mix though, but lesser of a chance with the lower amounts. Both also darken the soap in the higher amounts. Hope this helps.

    I make CP soap almost exclusively, and add honey all the time. I usually add it to my oils/fats and stick blend it until I barely see ANY separation. And I soap at room temp, even when I add beeswax. The reason is that when you add the lye it's going to raise the temp of the soap batter as it reacts with the honey, so the beeswax is not going to be solifying for long. But that's why you have everything ready to go as soon as you get to the part where you are about to add the lye. Essentially, "mise en place", for soaping just as you would for preparing a dish.
    Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, ready to be brought together (and I don't use a thermometer since the first time I made soap).
    I melt the beeswax in the oil with the highest melting point, and/or that holds its heat the best. I even have a large-ish insulated lunch bag in which I put a qt Mason jar w/ the oil in which I'm keeping the melted beeswax. Maybe it's too much work, but on cold WI days/nights when even butter doesn't soften on the countertop, it's necessary!
    Once everything comes together though, including the lye, your soap will be a dream to make. Just take it step by step, and be aware how much batter you'll be making, and that your beeswax needs to be warmer than the rest of your oils, regardless of what those oils/fats are. Just make sure to blend it with LIQUID oils, NEVER fats/oils that are solid @room temp! My suggestion, to clarify, is to warm one of your liquid oils (or a portion of it) in a qt Mason jar, then keep it in an insulated lunch bag with a LABEL ON IT (not an oven or a microwave because you might forget it! Ask me how I know! 😭🙄🫥).
    The beeswax helps anchor scents, but can also diminish lather, which is why it's good to add a sugar, like honey or a fruit puree (a very ripe banana is super good!).
    Just my 2 cents! ❤

    Good save 🤣 looks like a lovely bar of soap. I make soap with beeswax, i always melt it in with my oil too and haven't had a problem so far. I was surprised yours took so long to emulsify, mine goes quickly. I felt for you, your voice was so deflated ☹️ really glad it worked xxx

      Thanks so much for your comment!💖 Def going to add the beeswax to my oils before melting from now on! I too was thinking the batter would never emulsify. I didn't realize how much I was actually blending it until I watched it later. I should have stopped and just stirred to trace, especially after adding the fragrance. 🤗

    Tammy, when you told me the soap was a fail, I should have known it wasn't true. That soap looks beautiful! For a never have I ever, you did an amazing job!❤ I will share one tip with everyone who's reading this, if you have to process down your bees wax - melt it and then pour it into a metal bowl (or clean sink) of water. Then pull it out and let it dry. This way, the wax is stringy and full of air bubbles, and it will melt into your oils much faster 😊 I store mine in a bucket with lid for future use. Thank you for including me in this video, I love that we have become friends through this YT journey of ours! Have a great weekend!

    I made my first beeswax soap a few months ago and it turned out great. I used beeswax pastilles I already had from making lotion bars. The recipe I used was from Elly on Elly's Everyday Soap from her UA-cam channel. It was HP, but she also remade it on another video using a CP recipe. The recipe included honey, beeswax, and cocoa butter. I added some yogurt that wasn't in her recipe that I'd included in my water/lye ratio and threw it into the batch right before I molded it. It made the batch more fluid. I used Oatmeal Milk and Honey fragrance, a bit of titanium dioxide, and put oats on top. I have to admit, though, that the bars are soft and have a waxy feel and sheen to them, but they lather great. Good try! I hope you attempt it again soon.😊
