    1. You are mostly right. Nikon has some hard times, financially, and must focus on specific things, like middle and higher priced bodys and lenses for their full frame format. Professional DX mirrorless was not obviously not their priority, nor the lenses. Now the transition from DSLR to mirrorless is closed, they have most of the lens system, they planned, now maybe is time for the DX system, or maybe not.
Because the third lens manufacturers have recently soooo many lenses, also Autofocus lenses, I bought a week ago the zfc for my Nikon DX DSLR system (400 € with the Nikon Grip used and 600 Actuations. I can't resist. 😉) . But you are right, no fast zoom lens, so I stick with the classic nikkor 17-55mm, f2.8 professional tank lens with the ftz adapter. As my everytime travel lens onto the small mirrorless. Or my 16-85mm slow lens with VR and adapter. The next buy is a native Z Mount fast 50mm lens. Maybe a replacement for my DX 35 mm 1,8. F mount lens too.
    2. Card redundanc: Yes, backup is never a bad idea. But you know what? The first DSLR with dual slot cards slots was produced not primarily for backup, than for overflow functionality. Because the cards back in the days wasn't that big, and some became quick full during an event, for example sports, and you haven't the time so switch a card while the final match of Andre Agassi matchball.
But you are right, other companies allow backup functionality, why nikon don't, who knows.
But don't became too crazy about card failure. Generations of photographers hasn't have redundancy and you could have a quiter live with some workarounds. First: Use 5 SD Cards for an once in a lifetime event and swith constantly. If one gets corrupt, you looses only 20% of your work. And the chance are 90%, cou could rescue corrupt data out of an SD card with software at your pc. Also freeware like test disk is a mighty rescue software. To destroy all of your files, you must burn your SD card, such durable are the data. Or give the SD card to a disk doctor.
Second: Use a hard drive on vacation or events, to backup constantly your files. It exists hard drives with inbuild SD card reader and accu, to work independently, from external electrical wires. If you do that, only 5% of your files goes into the picture nirvana in an event, if you couldn't rescue the data thru rescue software or a data doctor.
    3. Targeting younger generations. It's right, nikon could do a better job. But nikon is an elite brand as you told so, for the adults, who are doctors, Ingenieurs, architects, creatives and have better jobs. Not for the hipsters or mass market. Not anymore, because the market share of nikon shrinks to 13%, third place after Canon, Sony, and in front of fuji, lumix, Olympus, Leica, pentax, etc. During the boom phase of DSLR in the early 2000s, Nikon become also a mass brand, and for the younger generations. With cheap compact cameras in wild colours. And with many entry level DSLRs, but these times are gone. Young content creator uses mostly smartphones, dji, Gopro, and very very few traditionalist enthusiast uses mirrorless interchangeable lens systems. Not more than 10% worlwide for all camera brands, I thing. Its the hard inconvenient truth that enthusiast photography as a hobby becomes like oil painters a niche. As an UA-cam creator some thinks, we photographers are the center of the world. We are not! Every little UA-cam video about traffic rules for car beginners have double the Klicks than we photographers community. We must live with it. The golden age of photography with interchangeable lenses are gone, like in the 80s, and so the UA-cam channels with this topic are very very small compared to almost every other hobby or profession.
That my remarks, but generally speaking, you are right. See us as oil painters, than we became a more realistic view of others to us. We are dinosaurs.

I agree with Most (IF NOT ALL) of Your points.... The Nikon Z50 is My Street n Travel Camera... I have always (except when I am or was working as a PhotoJournalist n Freelance) Liked to shoot and allow up to 6400 iso and what ever shutterspeed the camera chooses (Aperature Priority) I use the VERY SHARP (yet slow 16-50) Kit lens (most often @16mm=24mm FF equiv.) (Keeps the Kit small n light) I find that My files are nearly endlessly editable n sharp even as low as 1/2 sec exposures ( basic-streetlight n alley-ways) I have spent about 6months traveling in Europe in the last 2yrs. And shoot street nearly weekly at My home base (OH YEA I am a DINOSAUR,, shooting Nikon since1968) :) :) :) KEEP SHOOTING MY FRIEND :) :)

Beautifully composed breakdown my friend. As a Nikon shooter I always try to see things from every perspective and that's why I included issues which shouldn't consider at this day and age the pros (video backup) but also beginners/enthusiasts (number 1).
I generally really liked the solutions which you provided for the lack of video backup. This actually made me really optimistic on trying the z8 instead of jumping to Sony.
Thank you for these suggestions. Me and others will get much value out of this comment. ❤️

Somehow I agree with you, somehow I don't and please let me explain why.
    Crop Bodies.
Personally even if I'll go to wildlife I wouldn't use APSC, I see it as a step in evolution. I used D60/D5100/D7100 and I was so happy when I finally went to full frame. For example Z8/Z9 have DX Crop and I think is perfectly fine for more reach if needed. Z5 is an entry full frame with a decent price (700 euros not too long ago). I paid more than that on D610 which was entry level full frame camera back in like 2014 I believe. It's very capable but people like to complain. Imagine having Z5 in like 2010 :)
    Redundancy.
Same idea, people like to complain at every single thing. You can't have redundancy for example of high bit rate like Z8 8k60 Raw. You cannot record on a frickin' Sony Tough CF Ex card because the minimum sustained speed is too low and it's advertised of more than 1500mb/s. Now imagine doing that on a SD card. I know, there must be a middle ground where you can at least copy your files or ideal to record at a lower quality. I feel like a good CF Express card is good enough and just to be sure the ones on the approved list. Redundancy can be slow, I had Raw+Jpegs on both cards in Z8 while videos go on CFEx. When taking multiple pictures or bursts, switching to video is too damn slow and miss shots, so the solution was to record raws+videos on CFEx and jpegs on SD. Doing this, is pretty much instantaneous.
    Missfocus.
This issues was known for some time now but focusing that close on a reflective like surface... c'mon... Try doing that with any camera on a reflective things and you'll change your mind. Not trying to defend them, but the demo was live and again, focusing that close on eye which is reflective is really hard. They wanted to show the versatility of the lens but everyone loses their minds if things are not perfect. People nowadays blame equipment for their lack of skill, sorry, and everyone wants best of the best and every other thing is trash compared to.
    Subjectivism.
Ever wonder why companies have maybe boring photos or "safe" ones? They want to promote what cameras can do, not editing and manipulating much. In my photography journey I see these things as a circle, you start with simple things, evolve into complex stuff then start appreciate simple things, arrive where you started but refined, matured. With time you'll start to evaluate things differently and in the end what is a good picture to you is not for everyone else and vice versa.
I'm sure that other brands are nice, but I trust Nikon more than Sony and of course I've invested in them. Had Z6 since 2019 and for me worked much much better than any DSLR I had. Currently 2x Z6II and Z8.

I'm hopeful for the rumored Z50-II to materialize and finally replace my Z50... but you are right - Nikon has neglected APS-C in dire ways. I still want a Z80 to happen... still hoping!

Hey Esteban. The D7500 is a great camera BUT at the same price range you can get a z50. Which is in my opinion a much better camera. Image quality is the same but the Auto focus and even the video quality is far superior. I personally wouldn't invest in a DSLR camera.

But I do agree with you on point 2. As for point 3, most of the youngsters I know are still using Nikons because of price constraints (Sony is pretty expensive here). Most people don't really care about the official channels as well.

I'm sure there are many many Nikon owners aligned with your thoughts. I'm an amateur photographer owning a full-frame Nikon Z camera, I don't shoot video so I don't have an opinion on the first two points. However, on the 3rd one, I totally agree with you. I've sent multiple messages to Nikon Greece about workshops or events other camera brands do to engage with their audience and showcase their devices. The answer was "Stay tuned, great things are coming soon...." I've been tuned for 2-3 years now but nothing. Last year I did a personal exhibition and I contacted them for any kind of cooperation. For me, even having their logo around would have been a big deal. They could have placed some fliers, but nothing again. I've thought many times about switching either to Sony or to Fuji but I love the Nikon feeling and I can use them even without looking, this is what keeps me with the brand.

It feels like APC- format is kinda being neglected as a whole.
Sony used to have several lines of APC , now they have only the a6000 , that is the 6700.
Canon has more bodies but no lenses.
Fuji is the only company that puts effort to APC , because they never got in to full frame.

I am much older than you and the first topic you talked about is an old Nikon's problem. They simply see dx format as budget zone for photography starters and do not want to compromise FX lineup by making dx more powerful. And this was maybe true before when we had SLR's and there was not smartphones. But keeping that policy today make no sense because people would rather by high end smartphone than DX camera even if quality is slightly worse but compactness and connectivity is much much better.
