I remember buying this game when it came out. It was probably my favorite game at the time. It's also probably the one game I have finished the most times, each time with one more level against the final boss. As you say this game plays out that duology between creation and destruction. It's quite nice how it does it since it's very subtle. Your actions do have repercussions in the world at certain points, and even though most of those are mandatory, there are a few optional things that also have some impact. Sadly, I gave the game some years later to someone and never got it back (along with my Super Nintendo, Illussion of Gaia, Secret of Evermore and Super Mario All Stars...).
Love this game so much, each time I play it, I discover something new that I hadn’t picked up on with the previous play throughs . Fortunately , I’ve got an original copy of the English Pal version (CIB) and play it on my Supaboy (that converts Pal) since I’m in NA.
That's awesome. I do love that about retro games, especially RPGs. There's always some little thing that you never notice until you replay it. Always a great surprise.
When ActRaiser Renaissance was announced, I was hoping this would mean we'd gain access to so much more of Quintet's gaming library. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be the case. So many great games that I being forgotten at this point.
That would have been great, but yea it just seems like the majority of Quintet's library is overlooked. A collection of some kind would be awesome, though.
I loved your video. I first heard about this game from Super Derek. I would love to know how I can play this game. I have a Steam Deck. As well I have a Nintendo Switch and PS4. I'm a new subscriber and I like your videos. Thanks for this one.
Thanks for being a subscriber! Sadly, it isn't available on any modern platform. So the easiest way to play would be to download an SNES emulator to either your phone or computer. Some good options would be RetroArch, or Lemuroid for your phone. Then just download the ROM.
About 15 years ago when I lived in the middle of nowhere and the only entertainment I had was a 533MHz Celery PC without internet, I used my neighbor's dial-up on trash phone lines (connection was lucky to hit 19.6k) and snagged this. Moved it to my place via floppy disks.

Hey, that's cool to know! Thanks for sharing that. I've never been to Sweden, but I am a fan of the punk music there, the Refused are one of my favorites.
For a long time the rumor was that the story was too religious for the United States. The truth, however, is much more simple, and as you stated in the video. The translators simply had moved on to the newer console, the Sony Playstation.
@@gabegoforth Some background information on this: Well, I might misremember it. As you said, Enix closed their US studio, and Terranigma appeared after the Playstation was out, so it could also be that just the Playstation was the reason why the studio was closed. In any case, Quintet released several more games for that console in the United States, and among those, Planet Laika was published by Enix in 1999 (the other two games had other publishers). So my understanding was that the translators from the closed studio worked on for Enix but for the Playstation. But as I said, I might be wrong, might have misheard or misinterpreted things.
From what I read, the translation wasn’t done by Enix, it was contracted out to Nintendo of America, but then Enix USA closed it’s doors as the PS1 & Saturn were out with the N64 right around the corner, so the game was never released over there. In Europe however, the N64 was still further away, and Enix hadn’t closed it’s branch, so the game was published over there using the NoE translation. (and a bunch of other ones for European languages.)
I definitely disagree. I've played roms of it and it isn't IMO the worst Quintet RPG but its not the best, and there are other not officially released in the US JRPGs I've played that I consider much better. Shin Megami Tensei II for one, Bahumt Lagoon, and many others. And I'm sure I would prefer Legend of Heroes II if I ever got to play it. Edit :I would love a Quintet collection of this, its two predecessors, and Robotrek (Easily my favorite Quintet game) though
Totally understandable. Gaia was my favorite Quintet game for a long time, but this one has recently overshadowed it. A Quintet collection would be phenomenal! Robotrek is absolutely fantastic as well.
@@gabegoforth Gaia is my least favorite Quintet RPG. It isn't bad but I hate how you can't grind because I always have the most trouble with the first boss because of how much HP it has and how little I have when facing it. By later bosses I've gained enough HP to last longer. My first run I honestly think getting past the first boss took almost as long as the rest of the game because of how many times I lost and had to refight it
I did not like your review, you rambled on and on without saying much. It truly seems like you played for 5h and did a review with bits and pieces from other youtubers. Your title alone is a carbon copy of an earlier Max Derrat's video review of Terranigma.

Nostalgia on MAX!
One of the best games no one has ever played. A true gem.
Thanks again for a great video 💜
@ThePWing90 thanks for watching

Best laugh today.

This is my favorite game of all time. I love just about everything about it, especially the story.
Same here, dude!

That's interesting to hear. I can't blame them for moving on though, the PS1 had some incredible JRPGs.

I still have to give the title to Mother 3, but Terranigma was fantastic and underappreciated.
