Miriam's Vanishing really is slept on, it can makes some spells be cast faster after using the vanish. My fav combo is using the Miriam's Vanishing followed by Unescapable Frenzy. The grab from it comes out so fast after reappearing lol
Mantle of Thorns has potential if it had any utility like raising your damage negation, doing something like shooting out thorns in an AEO whenever you get hit, giving you some resistances to status effects, or the best thing it could do is make you immune to grab attacks. I could really see it raising physical damage negation in exchange for taking more fire damage.
I say "fuck it" and turn it into golden vow 2 with its own quirks. 5% bonus physical damage dealt specifically when using fist weapons, 10% bonus physical damage negation, +20% damage taken from fire, and make it deal a flat amount of damage to enemies when they hit you that scales.
Immunity to grab attacks would unironically be nuts. It would render certain bosses (Horah Lugh, Miquella’s grab etc) much more manageable because their grab attacks are usually their strongest attack
Another neat thing I noticed about Knight's Lightning Spear is that even when I'm stunned out of the casting animation, the extra bolts will often still fire.
42:01 note here: Putrescant knights and Scadutree Avatar’s don’t actually have water in them; it doesn’t cause the lightning spread effect to occur when you hit the ground. Knights goo appears to be melted corpse (lovely), and the Avatar’s is mostly sap from the Scadutree.
Putrescence is tainted flesh, so they shoved albinaurics in giant coffins and tossed it into the ocean which drifted to the fissure. So you are right! Old and rotten decaying bodies of frogmen.
@@hhyperxuserxd2680 yea, that's what we mean, it pecks the enemy a little at the start and then just leaves you wide open. You need something that will stand completely still or move very slow to land this incantation.
Miriam's Vanishing has to be my favorite spell of all time in a From Soft game. For as long as I've played souls games I've wanted a teleport spell and it's effectively Misty Step from Dungeons and Dragons. Popping Miriam's Vanishing into Carian Piercer or Gavel of Hiama catches people off guard frequently and causes panic rolls. A very fun spell all said, highly recommended for your tacticians and battle mages.
PVP is totally irrelevant to me, so I wish it actually confused some AI enemies or had less of a delay to make it actually more useful in boss fights and all.
My only real complaint about it is that it's a spell and not an ash of war that you can put on staves. It would make it less awkward to use, free up a spell slot for something else, and give us something to put on staves other than spinning weapon (come to think of it, I would love if Thop's Barrier could be slapped on there too). Or give it to us as a unique ash of war on a specific stave plus the spell so that people have to debate between using a stronger staff but sacrificing a spell slot if they want both, or using a less powerful staff for the convenience of having it always prepped like Bloodhound Step.
Dragonbolt of Florissax also increases your guard negation by 20%, meaning its useful if youre trying to deflect with non-colossal weapons or use smaller medium shields.
I immediately equipped it without reading the damn thing, thinking to myself that it was some damage negation buff with a defensive bleed effect.. I am pretty sure I was off my meds during that convoluted thought process 😂
I used it while doing some colosseum with my friend and this spell + briars armor + lightning goat roll is the most fun I’ve had in his game in a long time. does it kill quickly? Nope. does it make me giggle while watching my friend try and escape my mighty rolling power? Absolutely.
Nobody else in this scene has the fabulousness required to work both a signalis reference AND a reference to a channing tatum classic in one video. Another delightful one as always ❤
The Aoe fingers is extremely useful when you're against a mixed group of enemies with some of them having ranged attacks and some of them having melee.
8:46 I don’t know if it does, but I think another small benefit of electrocharge is that it prevents the enemy’s stance from regenerating. Similar concept to throwing knives at bosses when you get bad attack patterns and want to keep stance damage up.
Okay conceptually and dynamically I understand that incantations represent the dominance of the Golden Order and its impressive malleability. It's an extension of both their wars of conquest and spiritual hegemony that shows just how much remains under the fold even long after its peak. But still, would it have killed them to make some more Ancient sorceries? Even just a couple more Death soceries, especially because Rancor is the only one that's actually useful. Gravity has some cool variety now. Maybe a couple more Magma or Blood sorceries? Anything.

I didn’t understand the perks of heal from afar. I now do, thanks. Knight’s Lightning Spear is what got me through Rellana’s fight, and it’s funny you didn’t mention her because it’s a water arena with a boss wrapped in metal.
I don't understand what the problem with Imp Thorns is, when Bloodboon is a thing, Giantsflame is a thing, the Greatsword is a thing, Mr. One-Shot Giant Crusher is a thing etc etc. Magic is supposed to have a high damage ceiling, heck magic shouldn't be losing to physical unless they have tons of buffs. Magic is about making the impossible into reality. Why should my beam of concentrated power, which takes from a very LIMITED resource, do less damage than a player going "hehehehe bonk"? That quite literally makes no sense. Base Game had few notable sorceries that deserved to be called sorceries: Prenerf Pebble, Adula, Comet Azur, Night Comet, Slicer, Pre nerf Stars of Ruin, Shard Spiral, Crystal Torrent. The fact that I can't even think of others that did notable damage on the spot shows a problem. I've played EVERY single stat archetype in the game, and it's always Bleed, Strength, Faith, Dex, Int, in terms of the number of strong builds that can be made. For some reason, Int is just hated and sabotaged by the devs, and so many community members talk trash about the stat. TLDR; Imp Thorns is a necessary evil to make Int not remain as weak in the strong options as it was. When Giant Crusher loses it's 1 shot capability then we can talk.
As an added note to your starting rant about Sorceries vs. Incantations, it has not been lost on me that, not only did Int Stackers get roughly half the amount of new toys in the DLC - when they were already eating lighter than Faith Builds in the base game - but the single most undisputed best "Sorcery" is actually Pure F@$&ing Faith!
Fromsoft to Incantations: aww, poor guy doesn’t have magic or frostbite but has everything else, let’s change that. Fromsoft to Sorceries: well, we made new sorceries that do holy damage but we’re gonna turn them into incantations (and call them sorceries in the description) cause that’s too much for you guys. Also we’re not giving you that one death sorcery from the catacombs
Good Rusty, good. Rank for us like a good little Youtubist. for real though, thank you for all the effort you put into these videos. They're surprisingly informative and frankly, I'd watch you rank blades of grass because you're just funny af.
Looking at the remembrance items it’s very clear how much faith was favored over intelligence in this game. It feels like every other remembrance lets you choose between an incantation of the boss’s big attack, and the boss’s weapon, which scales with faith.
16:00 My god never use beloved stardust, the damage negation penalty of -30% is insane and it literally just gives you 99 virtual dex, the soft cap is 45 the hard cap at 70, 45 to 70 being 8% faster or so, radagon's gives 30 and every starting class has like 10 dex or so to the point where you're at the soft cap, azur's glintstone staff gives 40 virtual dex even offhanded and makes only sorceries cost 20% more FP so this beloved stardust is utterly useless especially since it's knee deep in the dlc where a caster could possibly have 70 dex already and save a talisman slot. Why would you want to reset frostbite though? It gives a significant damage boost, it's harder to proc each consecutive time and if you just want a damage proc use bleed, half the point is the debuff. Also Putrescent knight and scadutree avatar arenas aren't actually water, not sure what it is but it's not conductive.
Putrescent knight is, well, putrescense, so basically spooky corpse goo and not water, and scadutree avatar is tree sap, I think. ...and yeah, really sucks how bad beloved stardust is. Only use for it would be low level runs where you're getting one shot anyway, but even thats a stretch

@@jacej355 ...I'm legit embarassed I forgot about those. My favorite character in that game was a Hex build. That said, it seems like Hexes were folded more into Sorceries (specifically, the Death sorceries), so I don't think that part of OP's post is right.
@@NeutralDrow well I think that they're mixed with both sorcery and incants, so unless it's something from demon's souls as the other magic type I have no idea what Op is talking about.

@4:11 you take that back, not against the Tiny Erdtree ! Tiny Erdtree provides warmth and ligth. Sit next to it and you will feel it's benevolent embrace, rejuvenating your body and tending to your wounds. I remember the first time I saw Tiny Erdtree. I was trying to reach the throne, at last. I had the one who enabled all my strength by my side, Melina herself intending to assist in facing the poor Omen creature, Morgott. And in the midst of battle, I was stunned! I was feeling a warm, tender embrace, an uplifting breeze brushing off my flesh. I looked around, and there it was. A Tiny Erdtree, in all it's brilliance. It took me a serious blow from the Omen to avert my gaze from it. While stalling my opponent with the rarely used backup Barricaded medium shield, I paid attention as to how why the Tiny Erdtree was there. After a while it was gone, of course, but I suspected his extraordinary brilliance to be ephemeral. So I waited. I blocked hits. I dodged heavy blows. I jumped over ground attacks. I tapped the brute to protect my frail step-maiden, still waiting to see if it will happen again. And finally, my suspicion was proven correct. Melina boiled up a considerable amount of her focus by concentrating it on her hands, and casted an incantation. There it was! The same Tiny Erdtree, as breathtaking, friendly, brilliant and brave in the face of an imminent danger. After the battle, I had more important matters to attend, of course. And unfortunately, Melina never opened up about what was that unbelievable incantation, and if I could ever replicate it myself. Ano now ... I get to cast it for myself ?! Unbelievable even if ... I wish Melina was around to witness Tiny Erdtree

Yooo! A signalis reference in a Rusty video? That is awesome!
Godfrey would be proud of Morgott McDiesel
"That's m'boy!"
Godford
I’ve had a ton of success with the butterflies, maybe I’m just old fashioned that way but I really have used it a ton and gotten great results with it, just takes a lot of predicting
I've only seen you do it twice now but the "I've changed everything into a nail/pebble so you can see how this shit actually works" is actually so helpful pls do continue
Miriam's Vanishing really is slept on, it can makes some spells be cast faster after using the vanish. My fav combo is using the Miriam's Vanishing followed by Unescapable Frenzy. The grab from it comes out so fast after reappearing lol
Rusty’s getting a whole feast from this DLC
Therefore I am too
Cringe
That ending bullet screen was cool as fuck. Great vid, stinky ☺️
Literally just give it a thorns effect. Have enemies take damage when they hit you. Boom, a niche for tank builds.
Ring of Thorns from Dark Souls 2.
Just have that effect added onto the spell.
Honestly, it feels like they meant to give it bleed buildup per hit but just put the number in the "damage" box instead
I really love the reset frostbite section of the video, thank you very much for that.
The Rotten Butterflies swirl from the windup animation should probably have a hitbox
It should definitely have a hit box, the boss you get it from has a hitbox on the swirl, WHY can't we have one too?
It actually does have a hitbox, but it only deal damage once, unlike multiple times like Romina version
@@hhyperxuserxd2680 yea, that's what we mean, it pecks the enemy a little at the start and then just leaves you wide open. You need something that will stand completely still or move very slow to land this incantation.
I loved the part with the resets frostbite song, it really made my day. That should be your theme song Rusty!
@@FelisImpurrator Have you tried using Miriam's Vanishing with the Radagon Icon and/or Azur's Glintstone Staff (which both shorten casting times)?
@@Colesign 80 dex. It still has an odd delay hard baked in even past the casting speed cap.
@FelisImpurrator It's a magic Bloodhound's Step. Use it accordingly and you'll do fine
Lmao Morgot in a diesel BMW putting vain ambitions to rest was not an image I thought I needed
My man just spontaneously turning into Max0r when he has to say "resets frostbite"
thank you for reminding me to go binge Max0r's library again 😂
who's Max0r again??
@@SenseisbinahGuy who made “Incorrect Summary of Elden Ring”. It is absolute brain rot. Highly recommend.
Talking about this,I can't be the obly that reseting frostbite should do some big extra damage, right?
Similar to a bleed,at least.
@@andrellnogueiraBut, you already got the big damage when you got the frostbite. Someone’s greedy. 😑
Dragonbolt of Florissax also increases your guard negation by 20%, meaning its useful if youre trying to deflect with non-colossal weapons or use smaller medium shields.
I remember getting Mantle of Thorns for the first time and thinking, "why the fuck would I waste a spell slot on this?
You clearly haven’t seen sonic the hedgehog builds
I immediately equipped it without reading the damn thing, thinking to myself that it was some damage negation buff with a defensive bleed effect.. I am pretty sure I was off my meds during that convoluted thought process 😂
I used it while doing some colosseum with my friend and this spell + briars armor + lightning goat roll is the most fun I’ve had in his game in a long time. does it kill quickly? Nope. does it make me giggle while watching my friend try and escape my mighty rolling power? Absolutely.
I remember being shocked it didn’t make me indestructible. Or apply hardness tier 3
@@Capthowdy098 That would’ve had a lot more utility than the briar set in a spell idea
Nobody else in this scene has the fabulousness required to work both a signalis reference AND a reference to a channing tatum classic in one video. Another delightful one as always ❤
Average incantation: *_I love throwing glitter into my enimes eye's..._*
"What happened to you?"
"Some sparkly guy threw glitter at me"
Miquella's Divine Sparkle Storm.
That would really suck to be on the receiving end of, tbf, depending on the type of glitter and whether or not it actually got in the eyes
Which is absolutely busted.
FFS.... *enemies
The bear pelt matches the Rakshasa Armor, Red Bear's armor set, and the Warrior starting armor all really well, visually.
This is the first time i’ve ever heard someone say “be fucked” and honestly it kinda goes hard as fuck
That shi was hilarious 😭
my favorite rusty-ism is still "fuck yourself. do it on camera"
You should watch Demolition Man, then, it has a great usage of it.
You've never heard of "Be fucked", "Get fucked" "Get shit on" ect?
Anything.
16:11 Hello there! Didn't expect to see that in this video lmao
It's a real surprise seeing an umbrella here.
babe wake up Rusty made another objectively true ranking list
The "Resets Frostbite" dance break had me busting so hard I had to pause the video. Good job XD
Thank you for the list at the end that helps a lot!
I still have no idea why the fuck ansbach's incantation doesn't have fucking bleed. It's also a BLADE. WTF FROM
This made my evening after a long shitty day. Thanks for putting the smile back on my face.
the idea of an ancient dragon wearing an apron sprinkling lightly hot fire over my head is probably sticking for a week or two
Still pretty funny to imagine though.
Florissax simps will enjoy the mental image
@@EinSilverRose ayo, that's me, too. don't come to my comment dissing on my brothers and sisters in arms. (this is said in a jokeish matter, btw. just in case.)
Lansseax making breakfast for Vyke. ❤
You realize that since DS1 the lore says Dragons had humanoid form too as it explains in the Dragon covenant lore. Hell it's even mentioned in Kings Field games
I think it's very impressive just how many bad, or just straight up worthless spells, there are in the DLC.
I'll never say this dlc isn't worth the 20 to 40 you spend, but man, is it disappointing to realize I paid for spells like rain of fire.
It's an endgame dlc, direct upgrades to base game spells are perfectly fine. Wish they knew this.
The DLC isnt worth the money, wait for a HEFTY discount
@leonardo9259 most amount of content 20 has EVER gotten me in terms of a dlc. Definitely worth the money. Lol
As a drummer, I really appreciate you putting Ryan James Carr music in the background during 5:55
15:09 Miriam's Vanishing is a perfect alternative to bloodhounds step, it allows you to use other ash of war like Wing Stans on Milady make you look even cooler than before.
Never thought id live to see the day Morgott the Omen king to smoothly drive his way into a video to showcase a sponsorship
I literally bursted out laughing at the joke and your delivery of it at 18:49 Your sense of humor caught me completely off guard. Fantastic Video Rusty.
Bayle's Flame Lightning can also combo into other incantations or itself immediately after the attack lands, so you can chain bonk people in the face with your pointy wing bone as long as you have FP to spare.
Minor erdtree is even hamfisted deeper into the ground since there's a stronger warming stone called Sunlight stone iirc
Minor Erdtree: 720 hp over 30 seconds, costs 30 fp. Needs 2 memory slots and 70 faith.
Sunwarmth Stone: 900 hp over 30 seconds, costs 24 fp.
What the hell, Fromsoft.
Exactly🤣🤣🤣
I’m sure mentioning the Frostbite reset must be annoying for you but, as someone who didn’t know that (as I don’t normally watch this kind of video) thank you. It is genuinely helpful to us newbies.
Ok I’m not sure why but that end final results animated bit was clean asf to me.
Agreed
gotta respect the music choice of piano black. Excellent taste 👌

**Avoids spell by slowly walking to one side**
Well I've seen enough
been binging your vids lately and that frostbite reset remix got me so good.
Fleeting Microcosm looks soo good that I'd probably still use it even if it wasn't good
Don't worry, mircrocosm is actually one of the better new Magic options of the DLC, a lot of damage and utility for not that much FP
And so useful for big enemies if you strafe correctly and aim right at the ground.
Fun little thing with Fire Serpent: you can parry it during the start up with carian retaliation to get some glint blades for yourself
I like to think Messmers Orb is basically a slam dunk version of Giantsflame take thee
These worst to best videos are fantastic
I can feel another weapon ranking video coming
god i cannot fucking wait
7:45 "It's a brand new day and I'm a new rot incantation! I'll bet everyone will love me!"
Garden of the Half-Rotted: "Get out of my face."
I'm glad that 1.13 actually made this spell pretty good. It's so damn stylish.
Reset frostbite goes insanely hard
10:49 Timestamp for the future
It’s pretty funny faith builds can now cover every type of damage
Number one literally took me to credits. You know that meteor attack from Rahdan? Yeah that never happened.
Man I remember stumbling upon the impenetrable thorn sorcery while changing my spells for the messmer fight
I was so confused by how busted that was and haven't heard anyone talk about it until you called me out in both of your videos mentioning how stupid that sorcery is
Was kinda proud of myself for finding something powerful without knowing it existed until i learned that it's the sorcery equivalent of moon veil combined with rivers of blood
love that this list starts and ends with thorns lmao
no spoilers!!
23:38 Ngl i was not expecting a Signalis cameo in my daily dose of Elden Ring.
A man of culture, I see.
Drip investigator here, turns out the bear hood looks real drippin on the Rakshasa set
This problem has honestly fixed itself for me with the introduction of the staff of the great beyond
Now I can use sorcery and incantations
Wait we can't get the catacomb sorcery? GOD DAMMIT
Fromsoft: but since we're feeling charitable, heres Briars of Punishment if it was actually good.
@@bigbruno2232 I'm trying to get as much enjoyment out of it before it gets nerfed to Hades.
Common Faith gang W we just can't stop winning
Good Rusty, good. Rank for us like a good little Youtubist.
for real though, thank you for all the effort you put into these videos. They're surprisingly informative and frankly, I'd watch you rank blades of grass because you're just funny af.
RAIN OF FIRE IS FIXED WE CAN ALL BE HAPPY NOW
Looking at the remembrance items it’s very clear how much faith was favored over intelligence in this game.
I dont do this but by the time you started going in on the minor erddtree spell, I knew you knows whats ups son for real.
You deserve my engagement for this
Something about "be f***ed" instead of "get f***ed" is hilarious
I spat out my drink when you were talking about Miriam's vanishing and radhans meteor strike! 🤣
Incantations combine 3 of the old magic categories, Sorcery is the same as it was before. Makes sense that there's more of the former
Miracles and pyromancy but what's the third?
I know prayers and pyromancies. What was the third?
Hexs from ds2
@@jacej355 ...I'm legit embarassed I forgot about those. My favorite character in that game was a Hex build.
That said, it seems like Hexes were folded more into Sorceries (specifically, the Death sorceries), so I don't think that part of OP's post is right.
@@NeutralDrow well I think that they're mixed with both sorcery and incants, so unless it's something from demon's souls as the other magic type I have no idea what Op is talking about.
Your, "tough guy commercial" voice is actually immaculate
Gotta add that the seemingly larger amount of incantation stems from the fact that theres a lot of incantation that are some kind of debuff remove or buff, and Dragon Communion incantations could be differentiated as their own class of spells also, evening the ground between spells and incans
Communion incants are still incants though. And sorcery getting almost no support spells and even fewer of any value is ridiculous.
There's also that this game merged pyromancies with the older games' miracles, for the most part.
Unbelievable
even if ... I wish Melina was around to witness
Tiny Erdtree
pvp'er here. Let me just say that people sleep on Mass of Putrescence, it's become the mvp of my Coliseum mage loadout. You just need to weave it into the 3rd or 4th spell in your cycle, it catches everyone off guard, and the charged Ghostflame hit spread super far and chunks about half most ppl's hp bars, staggers, and allows me to run in with a dash attack finisher.
I was gonna watch this in the morning but i stayed up all night anyhow
