Tony, I hope you get this message... I had mentioned to the fine folks at the Ruth Bankroft Garden how much I enjoyed your channel and I wondered if you had any connection to them... They responded to me and asked if I could pass on to you that they would love for you to come visit their garden! You must be aware of the RBG, Ruth was a legend in Bay Area horticulturists!!! My partner Jim (RIP) and I were charter members of the Hortisexuals! Members of our group were instrumental in gaining acceptance into the Garden Conservancy for RBG... Brian Kemble lead researcher (who you might know) would very much like you to come to visit their garden!!! They are easy to find, in Walnut Creek California... Anyway I turned them on to your channel but I suspect they already knew about you because they were very eager to get you to visit them!!! My work is done here, now it's up to you to decide if you want to follow through........ Thanks!
@@chezmoi42 Yes, Ruth Bankroft was the other legendary RBG!!! By now they are both probably sharing garden tips and legal opinions! They would get along just fine I suppose!!!

My tiny brain can't remember the name while listening to your hilarious commentary. Also could you put the film date in the description? I get confused with the timing on some of your vids. Thanks. Smoke coming their way in one month. Air quality index has been hovering at around the high five hundreds for about ten days here in Oregon. Like living in a camp fire.
Last night in the UK the sunset was a very dark orange, guessing the smoke is getting up in the high atmosphere. Might be wrong. If I'm not scary stuff.
Damn dude, you're going to look like a piece of fruit leather after all of these desert journeys, thanks for sacrificing yourself for our low brow entertainment!
I often think you need one of Mike Stinnet's "sticks" for your walk-abouts. One that has a little hole designed into it so that you could somehow attach whatever you're filming with and poke it into the ground like a tripod. Then you could be in some of the shots too and you've got something to lean on when scaling rough terrain (okay, in 20 years you'll know what I mean). Besides which, he's got much the same eye for tiny details and shares your appreciation of little things in nature I think. And they're very special sticks and you're very special!
I grow that rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus) in my front yard native xeriscape. It's full of flowers right up until the snow falls. Super easy to grow, spreads nearly as readily as russian sage.
Damn you have SO MANY great tees and hoodies at that shop! I wanted every fuckin one :-/ but it must wait. Nice to see the variety growing .. I remember when you first started that up it was just a few types. Love them so much, cute mask too ;-)
You commenting on the alfalfa fields in the desert made me think who TF grows that in a desert?? Then I remember the section of Colorado I'm from would be a desert if it wasn't for irrigation 🤣
Alex Kuttel: Does the US more ground water more aquifers than Saudi Arabia? Why don’t they grow it there? We grow a lot of grain to feed cows all over the world.
Looks familiar. I lived in Winnemucca for a number of years ( way back when). One of the best periods of my life. When we were kids we used to forage for chokecherries and pine nuts. Lots of work and worth the effort. Did you get up to Paradise Valley.? Any comments on the "mountain Mahoganies".
Tonight here in north portland we have dropped below 300 for the first time in I think 6 days now.. very exciting to see shadows again (as opposed to the nasty, glumy, all grey/umber color that infiltrated cities for days and days).. so nice to finally have it showung signs of change anyways. Take care! It isnt lasting forever- yet.
I could handle some desert time about now. Spring in Dunedin means gale force norwesters full of exotic pollen. The Prunus, Pinus and wattles are kicking my arse.
Most medicinal plants, valuable though they may be, often have their effectiveness *WAY* overblown. Aconite, for instance, was pretty much the only effective local anesthetic before modern medicine. (it is SUPER dangerous by modern standards btw) But, it was claimed to cure just about anything, including stomach aches. The most obvious symptom of aconite poisoning is severe gastrointestinal issues. It also causes irregular heartbeats. I am of the opinion that herbal medicine is underutilized, but that we shouldn't throw modern medicine (especially science and the method thereof) out with the bathwater, so to speak. Don't get me started on Saint John's wart. (in short, if you don't like antidepressants, just go to a therapist. *therapists don't make you allergic to sunlight*) Also, by herbal medicine, I mean medicine with herbs, NOT what most people call "herbal medicine"
Time for a field trip out to Great Sand Dunes NP outside Alamosa, CO? Thanks for suffering for us and the editted in info is wonderful. Helps me with spelling the wacky plant part names

And FUCK dose stupid bugs.
The only reason to have antenna that long is to tickle your own ass. Got to be SOME reason that bug is living in the desert. Have had a great time finding tomato horn worms heavily parasitized, bad for the worm but good for those of us growing tomatoes. Rather the wasps take care of those plant munching bastards than apply chemicals anyway. Late summer is def weird bug season, they're all sick of the heat too.
This is some sort of weird therapy for me.
