Built a few of these a couple years ago, got tired of fixing them, moved on to building electric bikes and had heaps more fun and is so much easier to put together. As cool as it seems to have a gas motor on a bike, electric power is just so much better.
Yeah...except it isn't...it's expensive, and nothing can beat the mileage on these engines whenever you run out of fuel U just pour in some more and go on for another 70 kms.
This video got me curious as to how much experience is needed to assemble one of these kits. I'd like to give it a try but might end up getting discouraged.
Its not that hard. Most problems regard legalities (dont care, small town) and making the "universal" parts fit your bike. Nothing some cutting and bending cant fix. Make sure to give the engine a break in period (only use full throttle on your 3rd tank) and have a correct fuel/air and oil/fuel mixture. Loud, slow, dangerous, but loads of fun and 180MPG easily

I put an old Homelite 4.1 cubic inch (67cc) chainsaw engine with 4.5 horsepower on a Huffy mountain bike, using a direct drive foot peg mounted to the engine's crankshaft by removing the centrifugal clutch and using the clutch bolt inside the foot peg to hold it onto the engine. I rode that bike for 5 years, and must have put hundreds of miles it. It would go 51 mph. The chainsaw engines put out tremendous power, about double what the gas scooters and Chinese bike engines have. My friend had a Stihl engine on his BMX bike, and his bike had closer to 6.0 hp, and that thing was seriously fast around town and very smooth (still direct drive though). If you want a really fun experience, try mounting a chainsaw engine to your bike. To start it, you just run and jump on it. Medium size commercial chainsaw engines are extremely light (10 to 15 pounds). You get serious power to weight ratio.
Really beautiful video, I just bought the engine and I had a doubt: what type of fuel is the engine powered? simple petrol or 2/3% mixture? Thank you very much indeed!
All 2 strokes use oil mixture with their petrol. Otherwise you run without oil and destroy the engine. Check what oil ratio you should use for your particular engine, or engine size. (And oil type) goes in the same tank as fuel does.
The manual that comes with these engines requests 16:1 (fuel:oil) for break in and 20:1 after that...it is very oil rich so most of the motorized bike riders use 32:1 and some are very offended when they see a statement like this...they ride 40:1.

We were one of the first importers of the pocket bikes in Australia, running marvellous Chinese engines. Assembling them, and repairing them over and over and over was some of my darkest days.
I'd been toying with the idea of commuting by motorcycle in the winter since I'm only about 20 minutes from work even off the highway, then realized getting up my impossibly steep parking spot in our apartment was basically a nonstarter, this may be the move.
Probably not. It will be maintenance and tuning hell to get it to run consistently. If you're in an urban area, the entire block and a half will easily hear you since the 2-stroke engine will be louder than a chain saw at full RPM. Also the emissions would be foul with carcinogenic vaporized hydrocarbons spewing out like Benzene, Formaldehyde, and Acrolein. Don't forget these lovely compounds NOx and CO too. These compounds just love to get in to you and party with your cells. You'd be a walking/riding environment mini-disaster to those around you. An assault on ears and noses especially those in your carcinogenic wake.
Love the build. I have to customize all my parts since I am trying to put it on a cannandale 8 bike. I find myself struggling since I have disc brakes on front and back. Do you have any tips on installing sprocket to rear tire while still using the disc brakes?

The manual that comes with these engines requests 16:1 (fuel:oil) for break in and 20:1 after that...it is very oil rich so most of the motorized bike riders use 32:1 and some are very offended when they see a statement like this...they ride 40:1.
I have watched a few of your videos now. Thanks.
I'm not much of a motorcyclist. Bicyclist for 50+ years
It reminds me of my reaction to Car Talk and Top Gear/the Grand Tour.
I don't like cars either but found all of those shows to be very entertaining
Really loved your TW200 video
You have a great writing style. Kudos to you sir.
And don't stop writing/monologuing.
I wish you huge success. Subscribed.
Man, I would have loved to have that when I had my paper route when I was 14 (it was uphill both ways)
LMAO! I've just recently become a subscriber and I love some of the fantastic tips and great products you showcase, but this particular video had me in stitches!. At almost 50yrs old, and a "Jack of all trades/ Master of none" kinda guy, I can totally relate to all the various modifications/hacks that are needed for what's sold online as a universal, anyone can install, diy project. For guys like you and I, it's not that big a deal in most cases, but unfortunately for others it means needing tools and ingenuity that they may not have experience with.
Great video, and thanks for the laugh.

*"make it 3"*
Dude! This video is awesome! I have yet to convince my wife that I can’t reach my zen status until I build one of these little death-traps...but I can’t shake the tug to build one, I would have to guess I’ve watched a few hundred videos pertaining to the building of a motorized bicycle...some of them multiple times. You was the only one that didn’t talk to the audience like they were a 5 year old...but quickly gave us the straight-skinny on these fun little toys. New sub, friend.
2 stroke💥💥
We were one of the first importers of the pocket bikes in Australia, running marvellous Chinese engines. Assembling them, and repairing them over and over and over was some of my darkest days.
You've already had a great mountain bike to begin with..
Still has it, can still use pedal power
i was a kid when i bought one of these. learned a lot about simple engines. good teaching tool.
That was way too short! The credits ran, the house lights came up and my popcorn was only half eaten.
40 seconds in I already appreciate the humor of this video. thank you.
Hilarious! Ride safe my friend....
I'd been toying with the idea of commuting by motorcycle in the winter since I'm only about 20 minutes from work even off the highway, then realized getting up my impossibly steep parking spot in our apartment was basically a nonstarter, this may be the move.
Wrong title...it should be: "How to compress a 30 hour build down to a 6 minute video".
Such wonderful cinematography & such eonderful proses. What a pleasure! Thank you F9 and team!
I noticed that you didn't upgrade the brakes 🙈
Safety 3nd
Sounds logical!
Brakes? What are those? Just plant yo feet 4head
Came here out of curiosity. Stayed because of your comments. Love them!
Is this a decent cheap way to learn wheelies without risking breaking my motorcycle?
A bicycle in general is a good way to learn wheelies without risking breaking your motorcycle :D
Heck no brother. You can’t power wheelie with ~65cc

I learned so much from my 2 stroke bicycle build, and that's coming from someone who road dirtbikes and motorcycles from the age of about 8
4:58 *Everyone is thinking* , is this the SAIL - AWOLNATION (Unofficial) video?!
Most likely even better. 😉
Dang man u gave me the best idea. I bought a broke motorbike got the seatbase and the seat and putted them on my mtb. It turned out amazing!
Is it worth it? I just want a little fun project and have fun with an 2stroke bycicle
Dimitri TheWhale they’re kind of a fun way to get around your neighborhood 🤷♂️
@@beyondfossil its alright where i live 2 stroke is pretty popularand i live on the country side
@@beyondfossil boo hoo. Tree hugger lmao
Built tons of these. Iv even got a tandem bike one on my channel. They usually take me about an hour to throw together a basic kit.
Love the build. I have to customize all my parts since I am trying to put it on a cannandale 8 bike. I find myself struggling since I have disc brakes on front and back. Do you have any tips on installing sprocket to rear tire while still using the disc brakes?
Either a spacer if you have the room, or a special part which has the sprocket and disc brake as one if you don't.
You quite literally CANNOT make enough content. More FortNine!
Disclaimer: the video is 6 mins , it takes much longer to install the kit
Got one of these. I only need a new carb lol. But its good quality, and cheap. Ride mine around all the time.
