If your wash plate is stuck, get a shoe lace and a 5/7 or butter knife to get the lace under the plate along the outsides of it. Once you have one end of the string across from the other, you can yank that thing right up! Hope this helps.
on my first try, i went a step further & used 2 shoestrings & crossed them under the plate like an X. pulled & pulled & pulled. pulled so hard i lifted the entire machine up. didn't work

Good video! The video shows you how it should go, start to finish. Your results will vary, my agitator plate did not come off so easily, ended up using shim bags (pocket size air bags) to lift the plate. The overall process is “as shown” but you’ll probably need more time, patience, and elbow grease than depicted.
I have a grinding noise that is only on the wash cycle. The noise is random, but can be loud. I think there is an object underneath the drum. Pulling the drum is how I can confirm my hypothesis. Any other way I can remove the drum without the special wrench?

At 2:20 there is an arrow on the bottom of the tub pointing to 10 o clock. It is visible again at 3:25 pointing to 8 oclock. Does anyone know why is the arrow there, must be a reason.
I removed the screw however the wash blade does not simply pop out at all. Any advice? Did you skip something between removing the screw and lifting mg up the blade?
On front-loaders there is a coin trap where you can retrieve items that accidentally get washed in there. Unfortunately, top-loaders do not have this feature. Jewelry is typically too big to pass through the agitator, but if it is small enough you will want to disassemble the machine to search for it. If you run the machine without any clothing and hear metal moving around in the washer that can be an indication it is trapped in the tub. Sometimes they can get inside the drain pump and go out of the drain hose.
How in the world did you get the top to slide forward and up so easily? Mine is stuck on the front left side (when facing the machine). So annoying. Any tricks?
Thank you but that didn’t work. There is nothing sticking in the back. Something is sticking in the front left corner and there is no way to see what the issue is. My machine is a Maytag but it looks the same as the Whirlpool in your video.
Mine is a Maytag too. The hooks are shaped kinda like a fish hook. Pull forward, lift up and then push back just a little... and then if it lets go finally, like mine did, scream in frustration and relief.
Whirlpool/maytag changed the way the washer tops open about a year ago. make sure your model isn't new and falls under this category. then search the new way they open. it's a pita.
I had the same problem, had to get my wife to lift from the back so I could manipulate the little tabs locking everything down. Same corner too, front left. Use the front right corner to see how it’s supposed to come off. Now: my drum is stuck lol. Wish me luck 🍀
Best way I’ve found to remove the tub is to totally remove the gear case bolts and all parts attached to it. Spray the splines with penetrating oil. Then use a 30” or so 2x4 and set it on the shaft from above and use a hammer to drive it down. Alternate penetrating oil and direct blows. It will fall out.
I had this problem, it was just corrosion. PB B'laster (or similar) all around the shaft, let sit & then scrub with a wire brush. Took 2 people pulling up on either side to get the tub out.
I had to get a short flathead screwdriver, stick my hand down the side and hold the screwdriver pointing back up and go under the plastic lip, then twist the driver to pop the plastic off the tab.
My plate was stuck on so I had to screw two screws, one on each side using the small holes. Size 6 worked for me on the smallest holes. I sprayed lubricant in the center. I then took pliers on each screw and just pulled like a human impact wrench until it got loose. And then I realized the next step I needed a special wrench I'll only use once in my life and paid 15 for it on amazon. I am sure once I get this wrench I'll have more issues hammering it off. And eventually I'll get it off, nothing will be in between the drum and my issue be a bearing. I'll then buy a new washer because I'll have no idea how to change a bearing.
Don't think I want another Whirlpool Washer, this is the second one and the tub or the rods that hold it (from what I've read) need replacing. It will sometimes hit the side of the washer and it's squeaks during the spin cycle. I put the amount of clothes they show in the pictures on the machine for the different water levels. I think my next will be a Speed Queen. I think I want an agitator again too. I think it keeps it more balanced when the clothes are in it. They spread more evenly and don't just end up in one place.
Extremely misleading video. Looks like this was a brand new unit which had everything loosened before making the video. You will in most cases have to destroy the wash plate and then hammer the spanner wrench for 15-30 mins
Yeah- just lift that wash plate out like it's a daisy. Or, if you have MY washer, get several screwdrivers, a bent piece of wire, and a rubber mallet. And curse away!
I had to come back and watch to notice he took a very small screwdriver to get behind the little strip holding the tab in, and pull that away. That was after some choice words and minor confusion...
Same!! Did you ever get it off? I ask as I sit with 90% of the job complete. I did order the nut remover because a spanner wrench was not working. Help please!!
@@KendraZachrison Yes!! Once you get the nut off, you will have to rig up a tub puller. You will need a 2x4 cut to fit inside the top of the tub horizontally and a car jack to lift. That seal will release. It’s crazy how hard it is to remove. Look for the video explaining tub removal using the wood and car jack for clarification. Once that’s done, it’s easy! Good luck

Shoe lace won’t always work. I will use a dryer belt as they are stronger but even then… when in doubt, smash it out
This is why I came here. Thanks.
I put citric acid in my washer and washed it with hot water and the agitator plate came loose.
Thank you for clear directions. Mine is moldy must remove to clean .

Make sure the nut is unscrewed all the way.
you can try a penetrating oil. Usually works for me. rarely, I have to chisel and break it off and replace it.
I tucked a shoe string in almost all the way around and was able to pull up on it. It worked great
Pour boiling water into the hole…repeat about 3 times, it should come free.
Where does one acquire a Tub Nut Wrench??
amazon
Got one, was wrong size, anyone have a link for whirl pool?
Followed each step, we are so close. However, after removing the tub cover and tub nut, we are unable to remove the inner tub. Suggestions?
Same here-did anything help you?
Is it possible to lose jewelry from that washing washing and is it possible to get it back

Is there supposed to be liquid inside the drum itself. I got mine out and sounds like water swishing inside
yes for balance

Yes , lift up from the back side and push out out from the back . When doing it from the back you also see what is stopping the top panel on front .

Should there be water stuck between the walls of the tub? I can hear it sloshing around.
Same question, mine has that too
From watching other videos it is normal to hear liquid in the tub-it is for balancing purposes.
Been trying to get old drum out for roughly two hours now
Whirlpool got people out here trying to fix their washers with shoe strings and butter knives.
Lol. I Read that one too....they simply got lucky that one time.

What is the fear case
Gear case
What does one do if the inner tub does not simply remove....
From my experience? curse profusely. watch more videos. try again. sit on the floor in a puddle of old washing machinge water, and cry.
@TeaManTom that's the step I'm on right now 😢
Im on that step as well....looking for a stick of dynomite to kill off this f%%ker.....piece of junk....

It's so easy because it's new.
OK,
All pretty simple, what's the secret to un snapping the eight tub cover snaps,
Looks simple on the video
I just went under and snapped them off with a flat head screwdriver.
I had to get a short flathead screwdriver, stick my hand down the side and hold the screwdriver pointing back up and go under the plastic lip, then twist the driver to pop the plastic off the tab.

This washer has a gearcase, no bearing to replace. only the gearcase....
Yours slides out so easily. Mine feels like its been welded in there
Were you able to get it out? If so how? We have sprayed WD-40 hoping to eventually loosen it.
I’m still trying to figure out how to get mine out… I’ve seen jack stands and 2x4s being used…
I used the car jack and 2x4 and got the drum out after a bit. Now I can’t get the damn thing to go back down onto the shaft all the way. 🤦♀️
@@karenfry3839Did you get it back on? I can’t get the tub to come out.
Did anyone ever get their tub out?
Great video, , how do you get the taped water that's inside the drum wall, it may be a gallon
It always has water
At water is supposed to be there
I read someone say it's oil. But i cant confirm.
Why couldn't Whirlpool like LG make the whole tub stainless steel instead of that plastic bottom?
Thank you

just replace the rods.
Where do I order parts?
Let me know when you find out.
Ok this video is absurd 😂. Trust me, it will not go this smoothly. People don’t replace new items..smh
true lol this was a cakewalk compared to when i did it
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤦🏽♂️
This is probably about as easy as an oil change dude lol. Maybe easier tbh, just a bit more steps.
So true
What, you think that center piece comes out that easy. It does NOT.
Never heard the term “unthread the screw” before in my life.

It's a brand new pre taken apart machine. I do feel they need to warn people that it's not this easy. But they want sales... So go figure
Ended up cutting the agitator plate off with a cutoff tool😂, just cut itnoff and buy a new one
