Here's what worked for me in this order: Light tapping. More tapping. Liquid Wrench. Increased tapping and more liquid wrench. Banging, liquid wrench and propane torch. Crying. Cussing. Some amount of beer. Finally, what worked was banging down and at a slight angle on the drive shaft itself. I couldn't get it to actually rock back and forth like so many people could. Replaced the drive block and seems to work fine now.
Thanks so much for this! I spent half my day pounding on the drum to try and free up the corroded drive block and inner tub. I didn't have a tow hitch to put over the spline, but used a length of c-channel to give the clamps something to hang on. Took about 30 minutes to figure out how to get my clamps in place without a third hand or trained monkey, but as sooner as I did, the tub popped right out! Thanks again for a well shot video that clearly explains everything!
I Love/hate the 3-arm pullers. They either let you down terribly or save the day and make you a hero. I'd love tot get rid of all of all of mine but I wouldn't trade 'em for anything. Except maybe new ones. Thanks for posting.
I searched high and low for help. Your C Clamp solution along with a lot of peneteating oil worked so well. I even used the tow hitch!! Lol. Thanks so much!

I was taking the tub from our broken machine to clean it and move it to another machine I got off of Craig'sList for FREE. I didn't have a tub nut spanner wrench so I used a Hex bolt (5/8" x 3") that I had laying around in my shop. First I sprayed the nut with WD40 (out of Liquid Wrench grrrr.) and placed the head in the notch and tapped it with a hammer (moving it around the nut) until it broke free. Tried the same with the other tub nut and it worked the same! When I tried to lift the tub on both machines, they wouldn't budge. I decided to do the same thing with the split in the Drive Block tapping it in one direction and then the other. Then I got a chunk of scrap 2 X 4 (pine) and placed it on top of the Drive Block and tapped it in a downward direction, walking it around the spindle shaft. Finally, I placed the 2 X 4 on top of the spindle shaft and tapped it some more. Both tubs lifted right out! They came out with the Drive Block and I had to use a piece of a 1 X 2 to punch it out of the bottom of the tub shaft. Liquid Wrench and a 3" Hex bolt worked like a charm. I scrubbed the "new" used machine's outer tub and used a wet/dry vac to remove the dirty water. Scrubbed the "old" machine's tub and swapped it to the "new" used machine. I will be repairing this machine until I die. The NEW machines are garbage and break down the day after their 1 year warranty expires! I'll take my OLD Kenmore (Whirlpool) machine any day over the new electronic machines. Plus the parts are way cheaper and they actually work!
Nicely done! I caught this video only after using method 1. I blamed my wife for being too heavy with the laundry detergent. I never thought of method 2 but if this happens again in the future, I will try to remember.
I had the same problem with the Gear puller. But used vice grips on the drive spline to hold it in place. It was still stuck although the tub was much higher after the gear puller. I used a steam machine to blast the drive block area and it finally popped off. Now my drive block wont come out of the bottom of the tub shaft, lolz. 👍👍
When I did mine last week, I wound up putting the nut back on a few turns, then putting the 3 jaw puller on it, with the screw part of the puller just inside the shaft, since it was a little wider than the threaded hole in the shaft. It worked ok, it didn’t turn like yours did.
The only method that worked for me was using the hammer and using the spanner long handle vertically to strongly tap all around the top part of the drive block using a microfiber cloth to prevent damage. Before hand I did spray some Rust Blaster around the transmission rod and let it sit a while. I came back a few times with no results. So I let it sit longer. Then I came back to Hammer hard the Drive block, then I aggressively rocked the inner tub back and forth, and pulled upward. It came out. It WORKED!
I appreciate your video. My problem? My gear case is fused to the wash basket. I purchased a new gear case/transmission, removed all necessary parts (all by my female self lol) but now I can’t get the old one out. HELP!!! 😩😩😩😩
*UPDATE* After quite a bit of lubricating, I was able to get my gear case out and replace. I replace the wash plate as well which was no problem at all. I forgot to come back with an update after asking for help lol. I’m so proud of myself 😂
The inner tub tube, where it comes up the shaft under the agitator, rusted so bad it broke in half about half way up to the top. The tub was junk so where the drive block is split I took my drummell with a cutting disk and cut a slot in the drum shaft from the top down to where it was rusted/broke, about 2 and 1/2 inches. Just deep enough to cut the tube. I then took a cold chisel to the slot I cut. The drum came right out. This works fine if you are replacing the tub.😀😀
I've found thwt a 2×4 length of wood wedged between the transmisson and the support brackets that hold the tubs helps to keep the shaft from spinning while you are trying to loosen and remove everything..
I just did this the other way. At the bottom of the shaft are holes. Stick your screwdriver in the hole and push to one side and the tub will get unstuck.
Dumb question I have possibly, once you cleaned everything and put it back together, did you have to replace any type of lubricant grease, specifically between the outer and inner tubs on the shaft? My machine stunk, there was tons of weird algae gel like stuff, hoping everything works once I put it back together. Thank you for the video.
Will the transmission incur any damage by putting pressure on the shaft pushing down? I am going to try this but if it doesn't work, I'm getting a Speed Queen.
What you did wrong was when u did the pully and u notice that the shaft was turning u should have use a vice grip to hold it from turning. That’s what I learn from a different video and it’s so much easier than the c clamp
My tub was stuck to the drive block I held the tub while I hit spanner wrench tightening way on the hub nut...then it didn't seem it did much... I poured a liquid soap around the drive block...seam between tub and block 2 seconds later soap soaking down....I didn't have penetrating oil..... the tub lifted right out! Cos my tub and drive block were spinning together after I had removed hub nut... couldn't lift tub out. After all that the drive block I just tapped up out from underneath with a hammer.
Amazing enginuity! Was trying to fix my mother in laws washer today (looks just like this but is a roper brand & isn't spinning/agitating). The agitator bolt was rusted & the top of the bolt broke off while trying to remove it. I drilled out the center of the bolt & used an extractor bit to remove it but the extractor bit broke off (flush with the top of the broken bolt)! When I try to drill into the broken extractor bit metal it just breaks all my drill bits. Now that I see your video I realize that I might of been able to take the drum/bowl thing out without the broken bolt removed. Do you know if I can remove the part with the broken bolt & replace it or is it attached to the motor shaft & not removable.
I tried this method. Unfortunately ended up ruining my transmission. Wasn't able to remove the tub either. My drive shaft was "fused" with gunk to the drive block. So the clamps ended up forcing the center of the drive shaft into the transmission.
Need help... I did the clutch repair on a LSR7010pq1. The center shaft was corroded and would not come out. Took a lot of effort, hammering and time but I got it out. I removed the inner spin basket thinking it would help me get the shaft out. Wrong. The drive block is stuck in the basket and no amount of hammering with a 4lb mallet will set it free. Replaced clutch and reassembled without issue. The drive block was very difficult to tighten and get it to lock on the shaft. But I got it tight. Now when empty, Low spin is fine but in high spin it goes violently out of balance. I checked the suspension components and they are all in tact. The Spin basket remained attached to the shaft after several tests. Not sure what went wrong. I think it is related to the drive block or the basket. What confuses me is that it is fine on low spin. I am going to run it without the Spin basket to see what happens. Any Ideas what my problem is ?
check your neutral drain transmission maybe during the process something got damage. if the transmission is the issue i will not try to repair it just buy a new one save you some time and money in the long run. I will post a follow up video. soon To date 1/21/2022 the washer is working with no issue what so ever knock on wood. Good luck on your repair and God bless.
The problem is your drive block needs to be replaced and clean up the transaxle/ shaft ( as you call it ) otherwise you are going to continue to have a slow spin cycle and your clothes will not " spin " dry !! (Wet clothes) you can always Google what a part does for a machine! This is the second time in 6 years that I have had to replace the drive block!
By the way, put veg. Oil around the drive block 3 applications within an hour, and put a towel around the tub where the drive block is use hammer sideways and tap all around a few revalotions then pull tub off !!!
I used a 5-ton 3-claw puller rented from local auto zone. (Fee refunded on return). Tub nut wrench under the nut is what I clawed. The puller point started drilling through the shaft. I then removed part of a pipe wrench and stuck that between the puller point and the top of the trans shaft. Used a 1/2” ratchet to turn and lift the puller and lifted the tub! I had applied liquid wrench for a few days so that reeks and everything is so funky and will be hard to clean. Who knows if it still works after all this and I put it together. Have already picked out what new front loader washer to buy. The black gummy stuff was in the hoses - I removed the 3 black rubber hoses and cleaned the insides. Maybe I should have stopped there. Will post results after I clean and reassemble.
Got something a lot easier. A wheel puller, The 3 claw kind. Not sure if anyone suggested it. I turned over the spanner nut to have more surface. &It came right out. The drive block was rusted to the shaft & tub, badly it's still stuck it it I only had my whirlpool for less than 5 years. Will never buy another one. Got a maytag. Got to be better made, it's made in America. I hope !
Too much video editing, and you didn't explain what you did. You put a trailer hitch slider on top. You didn't show what you did. Did you lay it on top of the drive shaft sticking up or do you have some sort of spacer in between the slider and the spanner wrench? I have the same problem the tub is stuck.
i Think that you should have tried the "mexican technic" aprubed by the " orthodox russian society of tecnicians". first: atatch the bolt to the dive block enough to sustain and not rip of the treads after some abuse on it . Second: grab a small sledge hammer. Third: grab the spinin tub by the edge. Third: Lift the thing from the gipp you allready got on the spining tub. Finally: Begin the hammering on the drive block bolt ...spesiallly a at the side neerest the spot your are lifing from. hit carefully a first then at will if it dosent give way! (This is a fool proof technic highly certefied by people)

Just pull up on the tub grab a sledge hammer and clunk the drive block a few times and it will break it loose… it always works for me…
You were pulling on the SHAFT, NOT the tub...
