Now, ten years later, I'm finally finding my own style again and learning to be myself and, yes, saying out loud that I actually like the things I used to make fun of. So please don't hate on all of the kids who were just trying to fit in, ya'll don't know what they've been through XD this has been a confession of an ex twilight hater, thanks for listening.

HA was I wrong (about them being rap and about not liking rap, because I now know all the words to levitate). for a lot of older gen z kids, we grew up with stuff like the twilight movies making the books kind of popular, getting us into them during middle school, as well as kind of the middle/end of the height of 2000s emo. for a lot of us, stuff like that is just super nostalgic, and i think that bc of everything going on lately a lot of kids are returning to that for comfort. which, therefore, is popularizing them, but i definitely don't think that's a bad thing. i think it's really epic that younger kids in my generation are gonna be able to enjoy stuff that i was made fun of for; they just get to have a better experience with it and make better memories, which is pretty sweet.

I use to hid my interest from people either because they made fun of me or always gave me a look of judgement. Now, I’m in my early 20s and not only has nothing left, but I’ve embraced everything and am living my best life. Let yourself like things people!! Even if you have to hid it in the depths for awhile you shouldn’t let people dictate what you like. It’s a lesson I’ve had to learn one too many times...
Also, the bands that stuck with me, see I listened to Vampire Weekend and Fall Out Boy religiously but it was the Fratellis and Gorillaz that have stuck with me. And I’m thankful for that.

I could give a thousand examples but this one gets me the most... I love thrifting clothes, wearing a bit of 70s and modern styles, sewing and adjusting them to fit me. I like 95% of their songs. (Did not like hometown or bounce man as much) but I think I still disagree with this video. I don't know where the notion comes from that twilight is good.. I read the first book, it was so forgetful I still can't remember a plotpoint from it. The movies on the other hand were a brilliant comedic work of art, which unfortunately fizzled out into complete blandness of the later movies. On the note of gate-keeping. It just shows how insecure you are about the things you like and how much you base your personality around liking those things.
I am a big fan of Bastille's music, have been since their first album came out 8 years ago (almost 9), I am 23 now, so I spent my teens loving their music and I still love them because their music has grown in what they sing about, it makes sense. When I tell people that I enjoy Imagine Dragons I always get some disappointed and disapproving looks, I went to their concert back in 2018 and I loved it but people told me they don't make "concert music", what's that even supposed to mean? Specifically the many instances Tyler says he doesn’t rap, with the implication that Tyler’s lyrics are too deep to be considered rap or hip hop (even tho rap has always covered profound topics) it really sours the music for me because I hate the idea so many of the people in pop punk / rock alternative fandom scene have that rap, a predominantly black genre, is all just songs about money drugs and sex. I’ll never deny my former adoration of TOP, their music got me through middle school, but I think I’m in my right to criticize them and be bewildered at how middle school me, born and raised in the hood, listened to Tyler say “I wasn’t raised in the hood, but I know a thing or two about pain and darkness” and was okay with that.

I use to hid my interest from people either because they made fun of me or always gave me a look of judgement. Now, I’m in my early 20s and not only has nothing left, but I’ve embraced everything and am living my best life. Let yourself like things people!! Even if you have to hid it in the depths for awhile you shouldn’t let people dictate what you like. It’s a lesson I’ve had to learn one too many times...
Also, the bands that stuck with me, see I listened to Vampire Weekend and Fall Out Boy religiously but it was the Fratellis and Gorillaz that have stuck with me. And I’m thankful for that.

It's strange. The music i listened to back when i was 14/ my teen years is so different from the stuff i listen to now. Don't get me wrong, I still love all that music and will go back and listen to it every now and then. But it hasn't really influenced the style i like now

I started listening to top a little while before trench came out. I remember all the secret dema stuff we were getting and IV gone back and listened to every song they have. I like 95% of their songs. (Did not like hometown or bounce man as much) but I think I still disagree with this video. I don't know where the notion comes from that twilight is good.. I read the first book, it was so forgetful I still can't remember a plotpoint from it. The movies on the other hand were a brilliant comedic work of art, which unfortunately fizzled out into complete blandness of the later movies.

I am a big fan of Bastille's music, have been since their first album came out 8 years ago (almost 9), I am 23 now, so I spent my teens loving their music and I still love them because their music has grown in what they sing about, it makes sense.
When I tell people that I enjoy Imagine Dragons I always get some disappointed and disapproving looks, I went to their concert back in 2018 and I loved it but people told me they don't make "concert music", what's that even supposed to mean? I'm just annoyed with those comments...

I am not really into any of these fandoms you mentioned and I don't have ticktock but what you said about the influence from cultural media when we where teens sticking with us made me laugh. I cut my hair short because Mandy Moore on the "how to deal " movie and I'll never change it and I'm still into colorful bohemian aesthetic (that started when I was 16 thanks to Vanessa Hudgens) in my 30. Also still adore dark thematic anime ( say AOT, FMA, CODE GEASS etc) and musicals. That will also never change 🤣. But I have to admit I never had to hide any of these stuff. Cause who cared.

Okay but can we address the weird anti black sentiment from TOP’s music? Specifically the many instances Tyler says he doesn’t rap, with the implication that Tyler’s lyrics are too deep to be considered rap or hip hop (even tho rap has always covered profound topics) it really sours the music for me because I hate the idea so many of the people in pop punk / rock alternative fandom scene have that rap, a predominantly black genre, is all just songs about money drugs and sex. I’ll never deny my former adoration of TOP, their music got me through middle school, but I think I’m in my right to criticize them and be bewildered at how middle school me, born and raised in the hood, listened to Tyler say “I wasn’t raised in the hood, but I know a thing or two about pain and darkness” and was okay with that.
