- In this Fishing Challenge I take you guys with me to Cabela's to buy some fishing gear! Cabela's has a HUGE Catfish and Carp section FILLED with baits and rigs. The mission is to buy some new rigs and bait that I have never tried before, take them to the water and try to catch some big winter fish!! Where should I go tackle shopping and do a budget fishing challenge next???

Absolutely love it when you do more fishing than bass - not that bass fishing is really boring, it's just that I see that all the time on UA-cam. I love your saltwater videos, panfish, catfish, carp, all that stuff. I like that you appreciate a wider variety of fish than the ol' LMB.
I usually just have a circle hook a Carolina rig and some hot dogs on the end and that caught me a 70 lb flat head in Missouri
Hot dogs is what I use. It caught me a 25 lb Channel catfish
The stinkier the better, being said I’ll take my hot dogs and soak them in vinegar while they sit outside for a couple days fermenting.... Just keep your nose away when you open the bag 😂 that’s some down south tips for ya 🤙🏼
I'm going to have to try that in the Ohio River this weekend.
Hot dogs, livers, chicken breast, shrimp. mix some strawberry koolaid or jello and a little garlic. Don't mess around with the store bought stuff.

Go to catfish bait: shrimp- cooked or uncooked. Hot dogs too- but mostly in summer.

Being a trapper from Canada I can tell you that beaver castor is used in vinnilla and lots of perfumes and colognes as a it holds the scent and keeps it smelling for longer
I wouldn’t use any of the catfish dough or anything of that store bought stuff. Catching shad or bluegill or any kind of baitfish is cheaper and works so much better.
(Also that’s a male channel catfish)

Catfish I'll use 65lb/80lb test braid, for dip and dough baits use a trebles, for cut bait circle hooks,I'd recommend 1oz weights tungsten if you can, heavy to XH rod and a reel with a good heavy duty drag system.

If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

my personal fav bate is cut bait. blue gill, shad, creek chubs all make great baits. the fish are most likely to bite something that is in the same environment compared to some bait u can buy in the store. i would recommend buying a cast net and find some bait fish in the same lake or river u r fishing in

Make a space in the camper for bait storage/plastic tackle boxes and then have a backpack that has horizontal tackle storage then you can interchange the tackle boxes you have in storage for the ones in the back pack

You could try biscuit dough and peanut butter. You flattened out a small bit of dough then put the peanut butter in the middle then you put it on the 3 hook but be careful when you cast it out. Always remember that a bad day fishing is always better than a good day at work.

Walmart has an ozark trail tackle backpack that comes with 3 tackle boxes and can fit 2 more. Its got tones of extra room for soft plastics and a small cooler on top.

Something you might want to invest in is a landing mat. We use them over in the UK as it lets us handle the fish much more safely.

My go to catfish bait is hotdog with garlic powder in the summer and fall, and in the winter and spring I use cut or live bluegill

For catfish i use shrimp & worms until i catch a bluegill then i use the bluegill as cut bait . If you dont get a bite within 20 mins reel up and cast again to a different spot .
Step one when fishing for catfish, dont use 4 lb test. But you caught em anyways so good job bro

I simplified and used 3 rigs and topwater lures. From doing this I catch a ton more fish. My favorite rig a 7-inch leader with a size 1 4 or 6 baitholder hook. I tie to main line. I put a moderate size split shot a 1/4 above where leader an main line is tied. I'll take split shot off if I'm using small live pan fish for bait. Also if grass and brush is heavy in an area. I'll use weight of live pan fish gently lobbing line into water. It's good to use a ultra light a light or medium light fast or moderate action rod. If you use soft plastic like finess worms use trophy bass or nightcrawler by procure game on. 😊 you'll catch a ton of fish once you find them. Using a weightless live small pan fish once carefully and gently cast loosens, drag a touch to not wear out live bait and let small fish do its thing. It'll get bit trust me. Once you throw soft plastic or live nightcrawlers let line settle once you cast. Pop rod tip let settle mix up pops but subtly let it settle after each pop. Do this 3 times finally raise rod tip 2 inches let it settle you'll get bit. If not crank the reel slow as u can a half reel turn. Pause after half reel turn mix up popping rod tip 3x then let it settle. Then raise rod tip let it settle. This natural slow fall and natural slow action with small to moderate size split shot helps. Use just 1 split shot. If you want to cast further put 2 moderate sized split shot. If you use small live pan fish no need for weight. Use weight for worms soft plastic worms, hellgamites or fluke. Use trophy bass or nightcrawler by procure you'll catch fish on this rig. 😊

You need to mix the bait you can add a little bit of cooking oil and that gets it really sticky and easy for dipping
Your right about the fresh bait but most the time it takes them a while like 4 hours for the biguns like 60 plus in the missouri river
Always go to the jewelry isle when your at Walmart to get tackle boxes and pliers from the tool isle itll save u some money and give u more of a assortment
I have not had any luck with any of those packaged baits.

Here in Ireland the dust chum is known as ground bait you mix it with water and make it into balls and throw it out for an attractant

You proberly won’t see this but I recommended the Plano thin series they are thinner boxes that you can have a lot of boxes and have a nice soft clean area of baits
I use hotdogs cut up with strawberry jello mix in a bag ket it set out either in the house or in the sun for a day.
My favorite catfish bait is a hot dog I live in NJ so it’s like Delaware so I would assume it would work good there too.

Dip The DipBait before casting water helps it bond better before casting Sudden Impact and Secret 7 works great for Channel Cats maybe some small Blues and BullHeads Flatheads to smart for that stuff 😂😆

Come to Washington DC we can go catch some giant blue cat fish, so I usually use chicken heart or pepperoni
I always stick with live/ fresh cut bait while catfishing. Creek chub is one of my favorites but seem to be hard to come by here, so I mostly use sunfish for live bait.
