@@creamysauce7966 Harris uses 2 fingers, but up and down strums with them. I started using that technique a few years back and it’s amazing that once you get it down how much it helps. Just have to keep those nails cut low!
dude playing bass with fingers its easier than playing with a pick. im playing it since 2010 and i just cant play with pick its so hard and it feels so unnatural
@@fratgunes9486 In my opinion, it depends. For some it is easier with a pick, for fast parts mostly, while others find fingerstyle easier. When I started (back in 86... I'm old, I know 😆) I was using only the pick, then two years later I learned fingerstyle too. To this day, I still prefer to use the pick for fast parts; I play Iron Maiden's songs without it, of course, but The Trooper (and others like this) really tire my right hand. Steve Harris has a huge endurance, to play like this for an entire concert! 😄 He is one of my three favorite bassists since I started, the other two are Geezer Butler and Geddy Lee. Geddy is the most technical of them, but surely Steve's right hand is the fastest of them all for galopping parts! 😄 Greetings from Italy!
I'm a teen bassist and have been playing for nearly 2 years and can play this song somewhat, but dang dude, not as good as you! I aspire to be this good. Not gonna lie, I was playing along and stopped to just watch. My problem is with the song, I got the rest down but the very beginning. I'm trying to play faster but it takes a toll on me lol. I play a 4 string. It's neat how you can play it with a 5 string.
Thanks for your comment man. I believe you have to be more patient with yourself. Playing this song after two years of practicing does sound impressive to me. There is no difference in playing a 5 or 4 string bass. Just a different Position of your right Hand thumb. If you are in trouble with the Intro, make yourself aware of your right hand picking and left hand hammer on(pull off in this case) at a slow speed. At what speed did you start to practice this one? It might be a question of endurance only, if you struggling (not talking about the intro but the Song in general). Just keep going, don't stop playing, have fun, you'll be able to play it soon!
Hey man, that’s great shit! Just writing this because my best advice for you is simply to practice (a large amount though). I’ve been playing bass for two years and I can play this song without any difficulty. I practice around four hours a day if I have time, if not I try to practice at least two hours. So just keep on practicing and keep on rocking that four string!

Hi Karen, I do play the gallop with two fingers. This Video shows alternating the fingers, would also have been possible to use Index or middle finger to start with. I use a Split screen to record both Video and tabs. Some effort in behind :) Thanks for your Feedback!
First, thank you for the great cover. I have a question: do you play it Harris style 2 fingered or do you use a 3 finger pattern to gallop? I can do it at 75% with two fingers, but 100% isn't possible at the moment. Thank you.

Hi Prordinaryus Gamer, the tuning for both guitar and bass are identical. Surely if you play bass you have to deal at least with thicker strings so some practicing is definitely needed.
Excellent playing! Is there a chance you'd consider posting the guitar pro file? I really need to repeat some sections really slowly and your tab is way more accurate than anything else I've seen. Thanks again!
On the gallop part do you try to start the gallop with the same finger every time? I'm asking because if you do strict alternating with your two fingers, the 3 notes in the gallop would require alternating which finger starts the gallop. edit: I slowed it down and saw that you were alternating. Cool
Hi Georg, In fact, playing the eights notes always within sliding one finger from D to A string, allows to always start with the same finger. If the eights will be played separately (which I wouldn't recommend as I believe it would be a waste of motion but surely a very good exercise), you'd have to alternate. Finally I don't care too much about it but prefer to play the Song with the most effective technigue possible. What is your way of playing it?
@@basssoul6874 We may be doing the same thing (or not haha). I was talking about each 3 note cluster (1/8 1/16 1/6) when talking about doing strict alternating. When I slowed the video down I could have sworn that's how I saw you were playing it...alternating which finger starts the 3 note cluster. But I think you are saying that you enter each 2 measure phrase on the same finger each time? which is what I do. By default I do strict alternating, but if it's a fast, repetitive phrase, I try to work it out so that I'm starting the phrase on the same finger. More muscle memory that way. Although when I'm relaxing and watching TV, I'll start with the other finger first as an exercise. You never know when you get caught on the wrong finger lol.
haha, music seems to be rocket science if you need to explain :) You are right, it's what I meant. Surely the alternating takes place during the standard gallop (3 note cluster). I played the songs a few times again just to identify what I am doing as a standard and then to shift, not starting with middle but with index finger and to play every single not alternating. All of this stuff works out properly but anyway, I prefer to to play the song in the most easiest way possible, as I did describe earlier. Thanks for your feedback man!
@@basssoul6874 Yea, I try not to overthink it as well. You should see how guitar players strategize on how to do a complex run with economy picking techniques.
