The coolest part of this music video, in my opinion, is at 2:38. I think it’s pretty awesome how the one soldier, who’s on the ground- presumably dying- passes the British flag to the other soldier who’s riding forward.. It’s like, “I may be about to die, but keep the colors charging forward!” I’m not British but I admire that sense of patriotism.
I think the same, that's the top scene followed by the flag waving and going always forward. I love it, whether I'm Argentinian and we lost a stupid war against the British
Oh you just took the words right out of my mouth. That's all I did as a student as well. At the time my walkman had a feature that would play the other side once the first got over automatically and I think I used to sleep with with that on all night sometimes before me grandma sometimes would come and close it down while I was asleep.
jerrkyd Sometimes, it's not a matter of taste, you know. You can like a BMW more than an Audi but you'll never dislike an Audi or you'll never say that it's a bad car. Ok, this is the same.
Maiden really nailed it with this song and showed how great heavy metal can be-Melodic, yet still heavy as hell, great vocals, and great musicianship. One of my all time favorite songs.
I really wanted to like your comment but Its on an even 154 and I can’t bring myself to bring such chaos to the world liking and leaving it on an odd number !
I wish other people at my school, Lincolnshire England, could appreciate this the way i do. Iron Maiden is my favourite band, but people just cant accept that.
I listened to my first song at 16, and since then they have stayed forever. Now I am 53 years old and Iron Maiden has been my inspiration to sing, thanks to the unmatched Bruce Dickinson. A band of 6 unbeatable musicians, composers ... and artists. Thanks friends !!!

The trooper is one of my favorite iron maiden songs ever! For starters it's powerful and it's totally empowering, because it gets my heart pumping, my blood flowing and my entire body moving so hard it gives me the opportunity to become a military trooper that is ever going to obtain the dream of becoming a one-man army.
One thing that’s impressed me about Iron Maiden beyond their kick ass riffs is how they draw on history & literature for the basis of many of their tunes. They are in a category of their own
@@homerc9101 Excuse me? Alexander the Great? Charge of the Light Brigade? Stranger in a Strange Land? Flight of Icarus? Any of those ring a bell in the categories of history and literature?

daaammmn Iron Maiden was your first concert? I'm 13 and Alice Cooper was mine. Grew out of him and saw Megadeth on the 2nd though! Going to see Maiden in September, too!
Thanks to my parents and school band, I enjoy all kinds of music. From 40's country to speed metal. But heavy metal and country rock are still my faves. And when I listen to heavy metal, the whole neighborhood listens to heavy metal. For those that don't know, The Charge of the Light Brigade.

Have you ever wondered where your soul goes after this life? We are sinners despite any tiny sins we commit like lying, bad thoughts, or cussing. It doesn't even matter how many good deeds we do because one little sin is bad enough already. We cannot make it up to heaven on our own will. Our God, Jesus Christ, decided to come down to Earth as a SINLESS human and sacrificed His life for our sins. Then He resurrected three days later! Therefore if you believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is your Savior, you'll definitely have eternal life. Your existence is proof that God is real. Consider this: A creation like you have a Creator. Only in the Bible does it mention that God is the Creator of mankind. God is the only one who can create your body, your organs, your features, your blood, and fingerprints. That is why nobody has the same finger prints nor DNA as you. How is that ironic? I teach European history and Maiden is my favorite band. My colleague who teaches U.S. history also loves Maiden. I fail to see the irony here.
+MrRenegadeshinobi remember how long ago this was. Just look at Eddie van halen, he was extremly fashionable at the time. A lot of this music was frowned upon by the parents at the time to kids wanted to be rebellious, prompting the bands to go against what is expected to be worn to kinda join the rebellion (not fact just opinion)
Fashionable doesn't always mean good (i.e. Mullets and pants down below the butt,) which was kinda my point. Yes, that was the fashion, and yes, they wore it to piss off their parents, but still, it was rather ugly clothing.
I have heard this song 1,928,845 times in my life and it still never gets old. Iron Maiden is one of lifes greatest treasures. Hopefully it remains timeless.
I want to dedicate this song to my dear friend alejandro centeno, he past the last 23 of march he committed suicided because of his metal disease and not having his medicine due to the crisi we live in Venezuela, he was 30 years old but he acted like a child, always a nice person with a great heart, a great fan o Iron maiden his favorite band and a big fan of steve harris...rest in peace my dear friend.

this song is so freaking good. A hall of fame metal band. Even when the song is over 40 years old. I’m still wondering how good they can make things in the 80s
The Trooper is a tone poem. Every musical element represents an action in battle -- the drums are the cannon blasts and rifle shots, the bass is the charge of the galloping cavalry, the guitars are the buglers and cavalry soldiers facing death, Dickinson ties it all together with emotionally narrative oratorio. It cannot be overstated how this song is the culmination of Steve Harris' genius, it is a modern masterpiece and arguably the greatest conceived rock song of all time.
Harris continued writing leitmotifs on Piece of Mind -- in Where Eagles Dare, the bridge section after the first two verses has the guitars evoking paratroopers jumping from planes. Other bands have done similar, Metallica's guitars mimicking machine guns in the end section of One, for example. But Iron Maiden developed the idea most completely.
I would like to thank Iron Maiden for influencing me in writing some of my own lyrics, and just like this awesome band, I am writing my songs based on Historical events, battles and people.
first, I don't have a camera, unless it's my mobile, second, I am not really a top notch singer, learning how to play guitar. I don't have a band or have all the equipment to since I live some distance away from my capital city. and with that I am only self taught at this stage with no-one to teach me how to play guitar, all I have is books that show me the basics and so forth as well as some books that teach me about the chords. So I have a great deal of limitations on what I can do.
Paul There is UA-cam. When I was learning metal guitar in the late 70s, there was nothing but magazines with chord charts....And our ears. Up the Irons \m/
Iron Maiden was there when I was growing up. It was my loss that I had kept my mind closed to them and their kind. Only now, well into my 50's, have I discovered this incredible world of metal. Better late than never!
I'm forty five and as a teenager I was a metal head I stopped listening to music at seventeen and I still won't let myself enjoy it I will listen to it a little and then stopp
I remember introducing my buddy to this band with this song in the high school cafeteria with my disc-man. He was pessimistic at first but as soon as that bass line took place, he was all smiles. He became the biggest Maiden fan I knew haha. Up the Irons!

2024 hit me hard, so I’ll hit it to You play that techno, but it goes straight through So while I’m waiting for the next attack I’ll want to stand, there’s no turning back The guitars sounds, the power begins In this world, Iron Maiden wins The sound of drums and Bruce’s voice As I bang my head to my certain death.
You'll take my life, but I'll take yours too You'll fire your musket, but I'll run you through So when you're waiting for the next attack You'd better stand, there's no turning back The bugle sounds and the charge begins But on this battlefield no one wins The smell of acrid smoke and horses breath As I plunge on into certain death Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh The horse he sweats, with fear, we break to run The mighty roar of the russian guns And as we race towards the human wall The screams of pain as my comrades fall We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground And the russians fire another round We get so near yet so far away We won't live to fight another day Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh We get so close, near enough to fight When a russian gets me in his sights He pulls the trigger, and I feel the blow A burst of rounds take my horse below And as I lay there gazing at the sky My body's numb and my throat is dry And as I lay forgotten and alone Without a tear I draw my parting groan Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
If I was a President of Russia I would give Iron Maiden a "Hero Star" - the highest decoration in Russia (sort of "Purple Heart" in USA) for a perfect historical song of another Russian victory over NATO countries. In 1856 Crimea was won by the Russians from the Brits, France and Osmans in uneven fights for the Russians, with the most casualties and worst armaments. Then, in 1954, USSR president Khrushchev, being Ukrainian, signed Crimea to Ukraine - he stole it, just as Ukrainian Bolsheviks signed Russian territories to Ukraine in 1920s - today's Eastern Ukraine. The majority of the population in Eastern Ukraine are ethnic Russians on their land, where today the Western Ukrainian nazis from Kiev prohibited Russian language and culture out there. Therefore the Russians from Eastern Ukraine are fighting for their land, language and culture. USA and EU support Western Ukrainian nazis in genocid of Eastern Ukrainians (Russians). 70% of the Crimeans are ethnic Russians. After the USA coup in Kiev in 2014 the Crimeans voted for coming back to Russia. 83,1% of the Crimeans came to vote, 96,77% from them voted for Russia. Crimea came back to Russia, not to Bandera's nazy government in Kiev. If Crimea didn't, the Western Ukrainian nazis would be killing the Crimeans for their Russian identity on their land, as they've been killing for 5 years the Russians in Donbass, Lugansk and other russian parts of Ukraine today.
I remember seeing, hearing and feeling this played live at Reading Festival 2005, even to this day, I still say it was the best live performance I have ever seen. Being able to stun The Bruce Dickinson to silence with the chatting of "Maiden" at the top of our lungs was possibly one of my favourite musical moments. And then they played.

LYRICS:
You'll take my life, but I'll take yours too
You'll fire your musket, but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand, there's no turning back
The bugle sounds, the charge begins
But on this battlefield, no one wins
The smell of acrid smoke and horses' breath
As I plunge on into certain death
The horse, he sweats with fear, we break to run
The mighty roar of the Russian guns
And as we race towards the human wall
The screams of pain as my comrades fall
We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground
And the Russians fire another round
We get so near, yet so far away
We won't live to fight another day
We get so close, near enough to fight
When a Russian gets me in his sights
He pulls the trigger and I feel the blow
A burst of rounds take my horse below
And as I lay there gazing at the sky
My body's numb and my throat is dry
And as I lay forgotten and alone
Without a tear, I draw my parting groan

One thing that’s impressed me about Iron Maiden beyond their kick ass riffs is how they draw on history & literature for the basis of many of their tunes. They are in a category of their own
Agreed…being a fan of both history and the fantasy genre as well, Iron Maiden was always one of my favorite bands.

Have you ever wondered where your soul goes after this life? We are sinners despite any tiny sins we commit like lying, bad thoughts, or cussing. It doesn't even matter how many good deeds we do because one little sin is bad enough already. We cannot make it up to heaven on our own will.

Yep,they look like glam rock and metal had a bastard child and they are fucking proud of it.
What are you talking about? They look amazing.
Hey Ho! Let's Go!
But, their clothes are horrendous.

Nacional Latuffismo
I absolutely adore how the bass in this mimics horses galloping to battle, defining Maiden’s entire sound. Steve Harris is a genius. 🤘
I NEVER NOTICED THAT OMFG

Poetry .

The scene when the soldier rises up the british flag and the other took it was so epic that it made me drop an emotion tear, and I'm not even british
+progmetalJorge mee too:)
Me too :O i just replay it 200 times :O hahaha
It is a wounded British soldier raising the flag so the horseman can take it. Meaning if he drops the British Flag, The Land of Britain will fall out of reign.
+progmetalJorge god damn right...rule Britannia.
+progmetalJorge Same here. So much passion that he is willing to go to the last breath for his cause.
