[Verse 1]
You'll take my life, but I'll take yours too
You'll fire your musket, but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand, there's no turning back
The bugle sounds, the charge begins
But on this battlefield, no one wins
The smell of acrid smoke and horse's breath
As I plunge on into certain death
[Refrain]
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
[Verse 2]
The horse, he sweats with fear, we break to run
The mighty roar of the Russian guns
And as we race towards the human wall
The screams of pain as my comrades fall
We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground
And the Russians fire another round
We get so near, yet so far away
We won't live to fight another day
[Refrain]
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
[Instrumental Break]
[Guitar Solo]
[Guitar Solo]
[Verse 3]
We get so close, near enough to fight
When a Russian gets me in his sights
He pulls the trigger and I feel the blow
A burst of rounds takes my horse below
And as I lay there, gazing at the sky
My body's numb and my throat is dry
And as I lay forgotten and alone
Without a tear, I draw my parting groan

But, their clothes are horrendous.
+MrRenegadeshinobi remember how long ago this was. Just look at Eddie van halen, he was extremly fashionable at the time. A lot of this music was frowned upon by the parents at the time to kids wanted to be rebellious, prompting the bands to go against what is expected to be worn to kinda join the rebellion (not fact just opinion)
Fashionable doesn't always mean good (i.e. Mullets and pants down below the butt,) which was kinda my point. Yes, that was the fashion, and yes, they wore it to piss off their parents, but still, it was rather ugly clothing.

What a total, total, total classic!!
The coolest part of this music video, in my opinion, is at 2:38. I think it’s pretty awesome how the one soldier, who’s on the ground- presumably dying- passes the British flag to the other soldier who’s riding forward.. It’s like, “I may be about to die, but keep the colors charging forward!”
I’m not British but I admire that sense of patriotism.
patriotism it is then when you defend your country but not to attack another country thousands miles away.
I'm British..... This type of patriotism doesn't exist in England anymore.
Unfortunately.
The colors must never fall or waver! ONWARD FOR KING AND COUNTRY!
I think the same, that's the top scene followed by the flag waving and going always forward. I love it, whether I'm Argentinian and we lost a stupid war against the British
Well i am British and every time i see that i concur most definitely

It hits hard when they go into that gallop riff and show the horses galloping into battle, never fails to give me chills
Charge of the Light Brigade
Apparently the star off the film knocked the director of the film out after this scene, think 16 horses died and one rider to make it
Have you ever wondered where your soul goes after this life? We are sinners despite any tiny sins we commit like lying, bad thoughts, or cussing. It doesn't even matter how many good deeds we do because one little sin is bad enough already. We cannot make it up to heaven on our own will.
Our God, Jesus Christ, decided to come down to Earth as a SINLESS human and sacrificed His life for our sins. Then He resurrected three days later! Therefore if you believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is your Savior, you'll definitely have eternal life. Your existence is proof that God is real.
Consider this: A creation like you have a Creator. Only in the Bible does it mention that God is the Creator of mankind. God is the only one who can create your body, your organs, your features, your blood, and fingerprints. That is why nobody has the same finger prints nor DNA as you. YOU ARE UNIQUE THANKS TO OUR GOD, JESUS CHRIST! Have a great day!

What a great live band. Slways great sound and performance. Seen them 7 times.
One of the BEST BANDS EVER!!!!!
Seeing them live in Melbourne in September, I’m so excited
I absolutely adore how the bass in this mimics horses galloping to battle, defining Maiden’s entire sound. Steve Harris is a genius. 🤘
I NEVER NOTICED THAT OMFG
The Trooper is a tone poem. Every musical element represents an action in battle -- the drums are the cannon blasts and rifle shots, the bass is the charge of the galloping cavalry, the guitars are the buglers and cavalry soldiers facing death, Dickinson ties it all together with emotionally narrative oratorio. It cannot be overstated how this song is the culmination of Steve Harris' genius, it is a modern masterpiece and arguably the greatest conceived rock song of all time.
Harris continued writing leitmotifs on Piece of Mind -- in Where Eagles Dare, the bridge section after the first two verses has the guitars evoking paratroopers jumping from planes.
Other bands have done similar, Metallica's guitars mimicking machine guns in the end section of One, for example. But Iron Maiden developed the idea most completely.
Yes! Just got it.
it doesnt
This is one of my favorite songs. I love Iron Maiden, my favorite group!
One of the best songs that came out of the 1980's. Damn Great band indeed.
The Trooper tells of the futile heroism of a British soldier during the Charge of the Light Brigade, a light infantry manoeuvre during the Battle of Balaclava (1854) that was famously retold in Tennyson’s poem.
The poem was written 6 weeks after the event, reaching the British troops still fighting in the Crimean War (1853-1856), where it became a inspiring tribute.
The song was the second single released from Piece of Mind, and at the time was famous for its MTV banned music video, which depicted scenes from the 1936 Errol Flynn movie, in which actual horses died.
This song is based on the Crimean War, which was fought by the Russians and the Ottoman Empire (England, France, and Sardinia). There are several mentions of the Russians such as, "The mighty roar of the Russian guns" and "When a Russian gets me in his sights."
The opening with the galloping horses is based on The Charge Of The Light Brigade, a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

The Light Brigade weren't light infantry, mate, they were cavalry; made up of the 4th and 13th Light Dragoons, 17th Lancers, and the 8th and 11th Hussars.
You may as well edit in this additional fact - The Victoria Cross (Britain's highest honour) medals are made from bronze from one of those Russian cannons. That cavalry charge is literally the stuff of legends and the very definition of bravery.

Why thank you 🙏
Thanks! Just discovered it today. And I love this music
I see you too bro. Up the Irons!
the first time i consciously heard the song this year
this song is so freaking good. A hall of fame metal band. Even when the song is over 40 years old. I’m still wondering how good they can make things in the 80s
im wondering why is music so shit these days (ignore metallicas new album tho)
And to this I wonder why Eminem is in the Rock and Roll hall of fame but Iron Maiden isn’t
Angst😅
Are you over 40 years old too?
@@HiilandKew no
Esta cancion siempre me levanta el animo.
Cómo lo sabes.
Seeing the horseman pick up the flag from the dying soldier and carry on was sick
I was in the Army in Cold War West Germany when this one came out...we used to sing a cadenced version of it while running in formation during morning PT excercise! Over a 100 men singing this acapella at the top of our lungs was AWESOME! I'm sure the boys in the band would have been proud...hell...they may have heard us all the way across the English channel! LOL! ;-)
Actually one of the few times the song is worthy of being sung by the army (looking at you Fortunate Son).
Now THAT'S some glorious motivation. Too bad I'll never hear it in a spin class.... oh wait, I don't go to spin classes.
I *always* run with this song on my playlist, must have my daily fix.
{Shhhh....my dad's a Marine.}
A hundred Germans sing at the top of their lungs?
Across the English channel people will start drafting ;)
@@manubishe ROFLMAO... I'm married to a German for almost 30 years! So true, so true. 🤣🤣🤣
You guys won then, because you all like Iron Maiden. And I imagine that feeling triumphant.
I hate the "Who listening to this in ----" comments.
who’s listening to this on the 30th April 2024🤘
Me!!
The best metal song of all time.
There is a pub in Leyton/ Leytonstone, says the home of Iron Maiden.
hi fellow verified guy!
『depressed boi』 That’s fake 😁
Mowy Yup, there is Maryland Overground station nearby this pub if I’m not wrong. The route of 69 Bus .
Their first gig was there i think
They're always gonna be welcome in the British Homeland
You'll take my life, but I'll take yours too
You'll fire your musket, but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand, there's no turning back
The bugle sounds and the charge begins
But on this battlefield no one wins
The smell of acrid smoke and horses breath
As I plunge on into certain death
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
The horse he sweats, with fear, we break to run
The mighty roar of the russian guns
And as we race towards the human wall
The screams of pain as my comrades fall
We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground
And the russians fire another round
We get so near yet so far away
We won't live to fight another day
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
We get so close, near enough to fight
When a russian gets me in his sights
He pulls the trigger, and I feel the blow
A burst of rounds take my horse below
And as I lay there gazing at the sky
My body's numb and my throat is dry
And as I lay forgotten and alone
Without a tear I draw my parting groan
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
THANKS
Hi~^^I,m Korean &My very favorite song. But I couldn't memorize the lyrics. Thanks to you, I can memorize the lyrics.God bless to you~^^
Poetry .
If I was a President of Russia I would give Iron Maiden a "Hero Star" - the highest decoration in Russia (sort of "Purple Heart" in USA) for a perfect historical song of another Russian victory over NATO countries. In 1856 Crimea was won by the Russians from the Brits, France and Osmans in uneven fights for the Russians, with the most casualties and worst armaments. Then, in 1954, USSR president Khrushchev, being Ukrainian, signed Crimea to Ukraine - he stole it, just as Ukrainian Bolsheviks signed Russian territories to Ukraine in 1920s - today's Eastern Ukraine. The majority of the population in Eastern Ukraine are ethnic Russians on their land, where today the Western Ukrainian nazis from Kiev prohibited Russian language and culture out there. Therefore the Russians from Eastern Ukraine are fighting for their land, language and culture. USA and EU support Western Ukrainian nazis in genocid of Eastern Ukrainians (Russians). 70% of the Crimeans are ethnic Russians. After the USA coup in Kiev in 2014 the Crimeans voted for coming back to Russia. 83,1% of the Crimeans came to vote, 96,77% from them voted for Russia. Crimea came back to Russia, not to Bandera's nazy government in Kiev. If Crimea didn't, the Western Ukrainian nazis would be killing the Crimeans for their Russian identity on their land, as they've been killing for 5 years the Russians in Donbass, Lugansk and other russian parts of Ukraine today.
@@DK-bh2jz In 1856 the Russians lost. They lost completely.
This is a real master piece🤩
Beyond genius and definitely ignored and unrepresented. Amazing rock.
its pretty sick how well the bass can be heard!
it is because of a prominent and well scoped midrange and less fundamental low end contrary to the more popular hifi-basses.
+Kaktus Kastl ... Okay, now the English version
sorry for my english. i am not a grammar freak. as a native german speaker i can't do better. maybe i could tell it in german and you let the google translater do the work... ;-)
its not the grammar, its the fact that most of us have no idea what half those words mean so it's like japanese to us lol
@sal zulli & marius: i didn't mension the problem on this level. i am talking like that the whole day. that's my business, hehe...
i just wanted to remark that it might sometimes be an advantage to give the bass not too much fundamental brutality. this makes it possible to make the bass more present or prominent

Yes. Saw this live a few times. Maiden in my Top 5
I'm 53 with two young boys 9 and 10 years old. I'm also a guitar player of 40 years. They love iron maiden. They ask me to play their songs on guitar and my 9 year old has started picking up my guitar and giving it a go.
Same, happy New Year
One of the most iconic riffs in history. It’s supposed to mimic the sound of horse feet
Duh, the rythm is called "the gallop"
Barracuda mimics the best
Who even thinks of that seriously
Galloping, now used by many thrash bands. Classic, simple but sounds like a fucking freight train.
I think it's made to sound like Iron Maiden.
I showed this to my dog, now he is a wolf

@@jimmyjohnson5080 personally i prefer iron maiden to ac dc, because of the lirycs and the voice
You can't they are becausr you are disrespecting bands like Judas Priest, Dream Theater, Black Sabbath, Metallica, etc.
@Rita Lovett I cannot disagree with you... ;)
The world hit me hard, so I’ll hit it to
You play that techno, but it goes straight through
So while I’m waiting for the next attack
I’ll want to stand, there’s no turning back
The guitars sounds, the power begins
In this world, Iron Maiden wins
The sound of drums and Bruce’s voice
As I bang my head to my certain death.

Seriously, what’s with y’all and thinking kpop in feminine? Kpop is an umbrella term. There is khip-hip, rock, etc. Sorry, but even if it was true, there is nothing wrong with being feminine.
I don't care about the looks, I just don't like the music
