I done the conversion on my sportster 72 last winter. I used a wide glide front end I stead of the midglide that comes on the 48. Couldn't use the stock axle but grabbed one off eBay. for $40. Going from a 21" to a 16" front wheel made my 72 into another bike. Can actually really enjoy the twistes now
It’s pretty straight forward. Just takes some time. I had to swap out the brake calipers and rotors also. Front rotor is larger and mounts slightly different. The rear rotor is slightly smaller.
Wonderful video indeed❤💯, very much helpful for me. I am planning to fix 48 triple trees on my 2018 Iron. The forks are 39mm. Actually 48 triple trees measures 49mm. I cannot use my Iron's suspension forks onto 48 triple trees as they're 39mm
@@slowsmoothfast My 04 instrument cluster is different. It will not mount up. I got the cluster for the 48 but the connectors are different. I think I can swap the harness but the the indicator lights are led in the 48, but bulb in my 04. I will prevail some kind of way...lol
@@jeffreygwinn5081 If you had a Custom model Sporty, then you’ll need a gauge mount from a Nightster. They mount right up. Swap your gauge cluster into the Nightster mount and bolt on to the 48 triple tree.

Hi there ! I've got a 2010 XL1200C with a 21' skinny front tire. I recently purchased a 16' wheel from ebay too. I was wondering if it could be swapped by just putting on wider triple trees kit as the 2011+ models all have the fat front tire.
You can use that one too. The 2011-2015 Customs had the wide tires with mid glide tree with 39mm forks. You may have to check your rotor/caliper clearance with the swap. I personally liked the 49mm mid glide from the Sportster 48.
I just put a Sportster 48 front end onto my 2005 Harley Sportster 1200 custom and I was just curious how you like the difference in handling and what kind of difference is it it was. I can't wait to ride mine
For my style of riding, 100% improvement. I like to take tight turns and lean the bike to the limit. The narrow front end and skinny 21” wheel reached its mechanical limitations before I reached my capabilities.
What year are the front forks from??? What model and year bike and what is the name of the mag wheels and what kind of bike they come off of. I have a 2013 Sportster and I'm trying to do something like this with same kind of wheels
Depends. I managed to get the wheels with tires, front and rear brake assemblies, and complete front end for $2k shipped. Lately, that only gets you the front end or wheels/tires.
As long as you have all the components needed. Your application may be different if you’re fitting them to your forks. You would have to take measurements. The 48 models use a mid glide triple tree, and the 16-22 used a 49mm fork as opposed to the 39mm the 10-15 utilized. If you want to do a complete swap, then yes. They both use the same neck bearings. That’s why I just did a complete swap.
@@slowsmoothfast yea i extended forks 5inches lowered rear with the smaller shocks 3inches added the square style apes and forward controls , led lights all the way around , tail and headlight both have indicators built in to the light so its sleek . all blacked out except where chrome should be

2010-2015 48 triple trees will work as those years 48 were 39mm forks. You’ll just have to source a fender.
I'm about to do this to mine. I found a 48 front end at a phenomenal price. Only thing,wished I could use my stock riser.
Yeah. I’m not a fan of the integrated riser either.

The entire front end and wheels that I swapped in are factory from a 2016 Forty Eight.
any problem with the brake caliper
No issues. Just need to upgrade the calipers to the 16+ yr calipers and bracket.

I never did like the skinny front tire myself or the spoke front tire. I just can't stand spokes
Not a fan either. Too much maintenance for the amount I ride the bike.
Where did you find those wheels ?
eBay. They are OEM wheels from a 2016-up 48. As is the rest of the setup. good luck finding them at a decent price.
What size was the old rim and tire ?
Rear tire was the same size. Front wheel was a 21” laced oem wheel.

Id like to go fatter too on my 06 sporty.
Definitely worth it for my style of riding. Don’t regret getting rid of the classic look.
