Super talented family. Dweezil is one of my favorite guitar players of all time. KILLER solo in this song. Also, Moon is such a goddess. I used to have a serious crush on her. Heck, I guess I still do. Lol!
Dweezil, A Guitar Prodigy Self Taught by his father, the Legend, Frank Zappa and very Eddie Van Halen influenced. Moon is just simply delightful, Beautiful amazingly talented, highly educated. Classey, Spontaneously Fun California Girl.
I counted the talk/talkings in the video and got 47. Dweezil's persona comes across as a mister ultra cool. Watching him play guitar reminds me when I played and took lessons. He can really make that instrument sing. Moon has a beautiful voice. Listening/watching this clip is bound to brighten anyones mood.
Yeah well that’s why I just bought the record on vinyl. That’s the way it should be-people buying records instead of just listening for free.- That way artists make money too.
I remember Dweezil introducing his own music video premiere...after it finished playing the first time he ordered the first ever double premiere and played the video a second time in a row. Easily one of the most amazing guitar solos of all time. Way underrated.
I loved Dweezil's first album (and the next 3 or 4)... THIS VIDEO remains a favorite. Moon is gorgeous .... Frank and R.J. are funny. It's just a fun video about serious stuff. GREAT RIFFS
I lucked out on how i got this tape. My mom worked for a cleaning company that worked a building where there was a radio station. They had just recently changed formats and were throwing out boxes of cassettes and records almost daily, air check tapes from DJ's looking for work, promo albums and records they couldn't play because it wasnt in their format. This tape happened to be in one of the boxes she brought home one night... I still have it
Wow! He was an amazing guitar player! I think this was not a hit because the music was metal ish, and the vocals were totally new wave in style and content. It’s like the B52’s meet VH. If moon did this with new wave or punk sounding synths it may have been a hit. But man the music and his guitar solo are fire!
Amazing song!!!!!💕💕💕. I only recently learned about the complex scenario that resulted from Frank’s Estate being divied up (after his wife’s passing) amongst Moon Unit, Dweezil, and the other two siblings. Moon Unit and Dweezil were allocated 20% each rights to their dad’s estate (ie Music Rights) with the two younger sibs being awarded 30% each (for a total of 100%). It caused a huge rift amongst the kids, rightly so. If I had been Moon, I would really have been pissed. She sang lead vocals, co-wrote it, and Valley Girl was Frank’s ONLY Top 40 hit in the US.
I think the idea was that Dweezil and Moon could continue to earn money through music and such, the other two could not, and of course there was more to story that well never know.
I was born around this time (hope I'm not talking too much). God, I wish I was born 15-20 years earlier... to witness the original MTV VJs. And when MTV came out in 81.
Fun track. Hard to believe the Zappa kids were still teenagers here. Dweezil practiced ALOT. It was part of his agreement with his dad to leave school at 16.
When I see Hanoi Jane in a video claiming Capitalism/Communism/Freedom are just words that we might not know the meaning of, I have to admit i get somewhat skeptical our best interests are being upheld here... Great song though
In 1986 I didn't know she was his sister. For me was just "this guy is doing this hot girl and that's why she is singing with Zappa's son". She was hot! Many years later I discovered she was the valley girl. Despite the father, both zappas remained almost unknown in Brazil. I didn't like Zappa, only in 2014 I decided to hear his entire (nuts) discography.
I don’t remember this song at all. We didn’t have MTV in ‘86 (satellite signals were all scrambled by then rendering my Dad’s satellite dish useless). I am the same age as Dweezil and I was so jealous of him. Also had a huge crush on Moon. The vocal melody just kinda followed the guitar which is a mistake, but it’s forgiven because she was hot.
Back in the day I couldn't figure out why this wasn't the biggest song in America, now that I'm older I realize its because what they are singing about hits too close to home.
I don't know if it's Moon's vocals, but I'm getting a strong B-52's vibe off of this song. Take away a bit of distortion from the guitars, and add some old timey synths in the background and this would legit pass for a B-52's song (which is a good thing, since it's a damn good band).
Amateur night. But they were kids, so it's really appropriate for what teenagers would write in that era. But I love all the Zappas. Wonderful and interesting people, all of them.
Definitely Charlie Sexton, and Daphne Zuniga just before him. The two gentlemen in the director's chairs with the newspapers are Frank Zappa and Robert Wagner. That's Don Johnson at the very beginning of the video (Dweezil had played on his album Heartbeat, and appeared in the video for the single, so I guess this was Don reciprocating for the latter). I THINK that's Vince Neil with the camera after the guitar solo, but I'm not sure who the dark haired guy next to him. Not sure about the other people in the video.
C'est CACA ! du sous VANHALEN.. par contre son groupe "Z" est très bien et je ne parle pas de ses futures reprises de son père, dweezil est un très bon guitariste.
Not positive but I thought I heard one of them say in an interview that their mom held a grudge against the two oldest children because when she was raising them Frank was off doing whatever he wanted, groupies etc. but I’m not sure if I am remembering correctly.
@@adamx6000 because she may have taken it out on them. People are weird that way. I thought I heard one of them, Moon I think, mention that before but not sure. Was a long time ago. Moon just wrote a book and has recently given interviews about how horrible her mother was to her.

she is such a unit!
To make it even more amazing, he had just turned 17 when the video came out, so it's possible he was 16 when he was working on the album.

I had almost completely forgotten about this song... Dweezil and Moon are cute together in this video
Moon was and is as smart as she is gorgeous.
My college roommate and I listened to this and I want a Yacht all the time, classics
I guess this had to be one of my favorite songs from the 80s. Used to pull this song out at our party days, crank it up and everyone would say, WOW.
This is when MTV was MTV.

horsepucky he was taught by steve vai
imagine if they had a show back then like the Osborn's only with the Zappa's
They had a short lived sitcom in 1990, scripted though, not reality.
Dweezle is one of the most underrated players!
So sick of people saying everything is underrated

They let Dweez play it twice in a row, that's epic! I bet nobody else ever got to do that. I may be wrong.
Dweezil spent a hot minute as a VJ, so I'm sure that gave him a little extra clout.
