Legit real world infantryman here. Just have to say that was a pretty damn impressive little video. You pretty much covered most of the important points in only 8 minutes. That's pretty damn good.
+hazonku You know a military game is realistic when the tactics that win you the game are the same ones theyre teaching you guys down at Benning. No wall running or quickscoping here.
"And once you've identified their (the enemies) position, shoot em! Have your buddy shoot em! Your mom shoot em! The cleaning lady, the dog, everyone can shoot em!"
I rarely comment on anything (in cyberspace), but I was impressed with your video- great video/audio aid in a concise package. I think I'll start commenting on things more often. It felt good.
I have been watching your Arma vids for half an hour. You convinced me to get it in the first 5 minutes. I never played Arma 2. Only played operationt flashpoint dragon Rising and loved it. I will surely get Arma 3.
Noob here just started playing the game, Been wanting this game for years. Never used a mouse and key for gaming but getting the hang of it with all the different controls. Began the campaign and learning as I go. Game is difficult in an addictive way. There is so much more I'm expecting to learn. Love the Vids.
I'm glad to see you helping BI introduce new players to ARMA. The steep learning curve, especially for those who have no prior military experience, turned off a lot of players. I've been hooked since OFP.
Did anyone else laugh when Dslyecxi said, "And once you've identified their position shoot him. Have your buddy shoot him." around 4:57-5:00 I found this extremely funny I don"t know why.
My personal advice on that would be to avoid big open fields in the first place and always stay close to hard cover or concealment, if contact is made you can react with the standart "React to contact Drill" and subsequently induce a flanking/assaulting maneuver using a base of fire as well as a flanking element or in case the situations requires it you could then organize a defensive location. You can read about most of that in several "combat handbooks" and I believe in Dsylecxi's ArmA3 guide.
just wanted to say i'm broke and can't afford the game nor a computer to run the game but i subscribed to you anyway that's how interesting this shit is goddamn
I would just like to add a little detail to the situation of awareness. First of all, (I don't know if it's like this in arma 3, but in arma 2 it was) when you tell your platoon "safe", they will automaticaly adopt a column formation and they will walk on your steps, which means that they will use the exact same path that you have used (they really "follow" you.) It mays seem a little bit useless, but you will see why it is important : When they are "aware", "on alert", they will adopt the formation you wanted in the menu 8, but they won't keep the formation: whenever you will turn left, right or go back, it will ruin you formation. You can only go foward with this formation. Basically, if you use a line formation and take a sharp left, it wil seem like a column formation. With time, your team will readopt the right formation depending on where you're going. Uderstand that this is a great disadventage if you have to turn while on patrol as it bunches up your men, giving an oportunity to the enemy. For "danger" and "stealth" it is the same thing but you shouldn’t have to worry too much as if you get contact your soldiers were already on alert, expecting contact to happen at any moment and taking cover or consealment.
Maybe you don't go on Stratis for nature walks... But on a more serious note, great guide, TTP2 was awesome, and I'm glad to see you'll continue teaching new players in ArmA 3.
great video, for the group of real life players, and yes it does help some if your not in a group of friends or real life players. I would like to play this with people, but from the servers ive joined people just assume that you know the military handbook and dont want to help, alot of your video covers things that explained what to do in a group with real people the AI are just doing the opposite, and none of my friends can handle the arma series so no one to play with for me but the AI, just feel i have wasted my money on this and all the other arma's atm but still support the game for the people who do enjoy it. Thnx for your time on making the video tutorials. First time i saw an arma vid was an entire platoon of players, and i had hoped i could have experienced that. Subscribed and thumbsup
King of the hill servers usually have small groups (4-6 people) running on the teams, just type in side channel that you're looking for a group. Your other option is groups like shaktac who run events with 100+ players, these groups usually have complex joining rules so read up before applying. The 82nd airborne is a more casual arma group but don't do as much as shaktac.
i know this is a little late it being 3 months when you posted but there is a server called 77th JSOC that always get people arranged into teams. It's always got friendly people in it and is a great server.
True. With as much attention they put into different stances, it's a wonder why they didn't just make it a dynamic feature, adjusted with the mouse wheel or something.
Hopefully BIS might add some animations from the SMK mod for Arma 2. It was pretty good, you could urban prone, use walls as cover that you could peek from.....
Yes, but it depends on your definition of silhouetting. Skylining generally refers to being visible at the top of a structural formation (including terrain), however, silhouetting can include anything that makes you visible in terms of contrast; standing in front of headlights or a bright wall, for example.
also in the real world, cover is everything bullets dont penetrate concealment is all the rest lolol great vids, helps me get the new things for when ArmA3 releases :)
Just started playing this game and done the Bootcamp and VR tutorials, but in the campaign I simply suck at killing enemies! Even when trying to hide behind a tree or rock, the enemy seem to be able to locate me instantly and I am dead in 2 shots. But when I try to find the enemy, I can barely find them! Yes sometimes a red square appears on one enemy, but when I get my scope ready there is not enemy soldier there, just the red square, and it's not because they are on the other side of the hill. Then I see another enemy soldier run past, I shoot them, and I just seem to keep missing even though I clearly shoot them in the torso several times, and even a couple head shots. They turn and I'm dead in one shot again! Do you have any other tips for a complete noob to this game? Not played Arma or Arma 2 before either.
Personally I didn't care for the game. Its like a flight simulator for fps. You're gonna need many hours of game play for this thing to even start to resemble fun IMHO. I don't doubt the payoff is worth it if you have that kind of time and you were one of those guys who likes playing on crouch only servers. I don't. Would love to sell my license if anyone wants it.
Good advice. I'll try that. I've played tons of FPS dating all the way back to Return to Castle Wolfenstein and this one frustrated the .... out of me. I'll give it another try.
I started playing again just recently and have had a lot more success. I think my settings need tweaking because I'm more accurate using the crosshairs from the hip than iron sights and that doesn't make sense. In other words, something still seems off. But, with the words of advice I've definitely renewed interest in the game. Thank you!
@Dslyecxi : Did u already get the hands on the new tank that is shown on the "Bohemia Interactiv". I have got the theory that this is the experimental Paladin Atillery Tank.
Can you do a video on the language of the military? Like, how do you call when you spot a vehicle or a person in the distance. Confirming kills. Just, general speech.
Smoke granade time :) and if you are playing vs people not bots you can use distractions like setchels etc ..... throw a grenade toward enemy and a smoke. it will confuse them and cover you a bit ... or place a setchel get to safe position and when the eplosion occurs run ..... If they are real close you can always keep fighting so you may get one-two of them :)
Is the AI in ArmA 3 to be "trusted" when it comes to concealment? What I mean by that; is the AI made so that they will spot you less easily if you are concealed ( depending on what you hide inside/behind ) If I remember correctly, this was not the case in ArmA 2
I've been watching your vids for playing the game and I've been messing around with the Alpha Lite (Thanks btw!), and I'm finding the vids helpful, but I'm having trouble getting used to the controls, particularly using Z, X, and C for stances. Any tips you could give me (and anyone else with similar problems) for getting used to the controls or rebinding to something easier?
A great video as always, I was wondering, since it can be quite difficult to get into shacktac, with the high frequency of applications and members. If there was a good quality ArmA community unit that i could join? I've done a bit of research on my own though i'd like some more 1st hand accounts. I'd be looking for something like shacktac, in terms of the "serious-fun" but that doesn't take things to far, as i've seen groups that have paperwork after missions, and that seems sucky. please help
Dslyecxi, do you know whether the AI actually gets 'suppressed' in this, as opposed to Arma 2? I know it somewhat happened in Arma 2, but I know a lot of times where multiple squads would pour fire on an enemy position and the AI would just pop out their AKs and headshot us.
will you be doing more tips, ticks, tactics vids? i just pick up arma 3 (thanks to the new controls i was able to get into it) but i have much o learn about how to play still
Dslyecxi, you should really put in a suppressed mode. When you get suppressed by an Auto riflemen, now its nothing, It is like not scary to pop up from cover and fire towards the enemy, but with and suppressed effect, like blurry vision or whatever, would make it more realism and cool.
Dslyecxi, could you amend the about section of this vid to include a link to the article "Evolution of a Firefight?" I'd much appreciate the gesture if you could since I had some trouble trying to search for it.
I'm curious to the use of the term "skylining." Was this word chosen to replace the term "silhouetting?" The reason I ask is until watching Arma videos I have never heard skylining used in place of silhouetting.
Dslyecxi you sir made me excited about Arma 3. Your videos are amazingly well-made. Kudos man, kudos! Now a question: When Arma 3 comes out, is it possible to join your Shack Tactical crew or is it friends only?
can you tell us about the radio voice program you use? is it team speak with walkie talkie mod? and whats the "transmitting" popup at the bottom of the screen? i would like to have this, can you help?
They only really play inter-community missions, so they are either fighting teams of people within their group, or against the AI. Thats the nice thing about a close-knit and controlled community :)
You forgot to mention calling out where the enemy is. Even if you see them and a friend sees them you may have more friendlies in the area and they will want to know where to shoot and when to head for cover.
Wow man, this video was very informative. I just go into Arma 3 2 days ago by buying the beta. I played a few Arma 2 missions but had no idea what I was doing. I been watching your videos for a few days now and have learned sooo much. I come from battlefield and man this is a whole nother ball game lol. I love it though, love the teamwork, realism, graphics. I'm just having trouble learning the character movements. My question to you is, how do you adjust mouse sensitivity ? Dead zone sucks.
You can also learn a lot from listening to Arma NPC allies. "Contact! Enemy. Missle. soldier. 200 meters! NW. *beep beep*" First, call out contact. Next, what is it? A tank, a soldier, a car? Is it hostile? Next, give an approximate range and direction. Has it spotted you? What is it doing? Confirming kills: You can say something like Tango Down if you want, but you basically want to let your buddies know that a threat has been eliminated, and which threat.
is body armor being improved in A3, like in VBS2? From what I've seen in your alfa videos, most targets go down in 1 shot; even when shot to their chests (where the body armor is supposed to be the toughest)
Hey Dslyecxi, i have a question for you !!! Is the full release of Arma 3 is going to run on 4 cores or on 1 1/2 core (on a quadcore) with 30% gpu usage. This is probably the best tactical fps right now but any FPS that runs multiplayer less than 60fps on high end PCs is pretty BAD in 2013... What are they going to do with this issue and do you know anything that can help me achieve better performance ?
Dslyecxi I have a question say I was ambushed and my hole squad was killed but I lived and to get to cover I have to cross a very big and open field that has no cover am i fucked or can I survive?
The suppression 'system' in Arma isn't the greatest, I'd recommend getting an AI mod. Basically, the AI will shoot back, then move and engage accordingly.
Im new to PC FPS. I've played COD and BF3 on Ps3. For me its really hard to get used to the keyboard commands. Is this game able to use a controller like the 360 remote?
Legit real world infantryman here. Just have to say that was a pretty damn impressive little video. You pretty much covered most of the important points in only 8 minutes. That's pretty damn good.
+hazonku - Thanks!

Ditto. As an ex-recon scout, you are concise and accurate (like the bounding over watch explanation. And situational awareness). Good job!
+Curt Yetman arma cousin? VBS3?
eh.. I've been in a for a minute, and have never heard of this VR" shit you're talking about.
"And once you've identified their (the enemies) position, shoot em! Have your buddy shoot em! Your mom shoot em! The cleaning lady, the dog, everyone can shoot em!"
Just bought Arma 3 on the steam sale, rewatching this vid before jumping in for the first time! So excited :D
have fun dude
when does the sale end

I just watched this video as a new ArmA player and I legit thought that this video was made this year thanks to the amazing quality
I rarely comment on anything (in cyberspace), but I was impressed with your video- great video/audio aid in a concise package. I think I'll start commenting on things more often. It felt good.
I like your comment and agree you should comment more - you summed it up perfectly.
1:17 holy shit I saw none of the soldiers
That's one of the first lessons you learn in Arma 3 (and in Arma 2), what to look for.
Lol it’s harder in real life
you don't really need to physically see them! it's good enough to know where they might hide
Many years playing Arma 3 and I'm still blind to enemies hiding in the environments and that's the most common reason of my untimely demise.
Now imagine how scary real life battles are
I LOVE how normal people realize that the Community is very bright and clever. Even from a Soldiers eye
This helped me a lot. A few rages inbetween, but my first big battle on KOTH, I was able to hold Tower 4 down and win, got many kills too.
I have been watching your Arma vids for half an hour. You convinced me to get it in the first 5 minutes. I never played Arma 2. Only played operationt flashpoint dragon Rising and loved it. I will surely get Arma 3.
Im a console gamer and I love Dslyeci's ArmA vids. Im too poor to own a high end pc that can run ArmA II / III so this is a substitute.
Noob here just started playing the game, Been wanting this game for years. Never used a mouse and key for gaming but getting the hang of it with all the different controls. Began the campaign and learning as I go. Game is difficult in an addictive way. There is so much more I'm expecting to learn. Love the Vids.
This was an awesome video. You sound like a military instructor giving a speech about this stuff.
EXCELLENT VID! I just got this game today and I havnt even loaded it up yet. Thanks for this series.
I'm glad to see you helping BI introduce new players to ARMA. The steep learning curve, especially for those who have no prior military experience, turned off a lot of players. I've been hooked since OFP.
Your videos are better then Arma 3 Tutorial congratulations man from Brazil! your videos need to be on arma 3 oficial tutorial.
they are
3:10 Well.... I sometimes do....
This video just got my sub. Nice job man.
Didn't know war games could be so real.
Thank you very much! Really helps when coming back into Arma after a long time lol
Great job as always Dslyecxi.
awesome Vid dslyecxi! this will help a lot!
Did anyone else laugh when Dslyecxi said, "And once you've identified their position shoot him. Have your buddy shoot him." around 4:57-5:00 I found this extremely funny I don"t know why.
Fantastic video!
With the latest patch, the RDS is now the primary sight. the default switch is lft-ctrl+right click
Smookie, the modder who made the SMK animations, is doing the animations for arma 3 for BIS
Stance adjust. Use CTRL and W and S to change through the nine stances.
Well done.... Great guide you're making....
Thanks. I take notes from your videos to use when playing ARMA III.
I like you - cool voice and helpful tips for even "pro" FPS players
These videos are great!
Were you ever in the military? If not this video is pretty damn good. I was hearing my drill sgt yell all of this while watching.
wow makes things look so easy! Nice explanation!
I learned a lot of this video! thanks Dslyecxi
Good for you, and good on the devs for realizing what a valuable resource you are for the game. Thinking about picking up my copy today.
These videos are incredibly helpful and informative. Thank you.
Back when UA-cam was helpful and not click bait
Awesome vid bro , good skill tactics every arma player should know / learn
just wanted to say i'm broke and can't afford the game nor a computer to run the game but i subscribed to you anyway that's how interesting this shit is goddamn

I would just like to add a little detail to the situation of awareness.

That's only for ArmA 2 and when you play with AIs on your team lol
Thank you for making an actually useful video.
Haha, I already saw this on gametrailers some days before...you´re famous now, maybe you should already prepare some autograph pictures! :D
Ah this game is gorgeous, cant wait to get myself a decent PC almost there, 7 months of saving up will soon pay off! hahah cant wait!
Maybe you don't go on Stratis for nature walks...
But on a more serious note, great guide, TTP2 was awesome, and I'm glad to see you'll continue teaching new players in ArmA 3.
You're such a cool guy Dslyecxi!
great video, for the group of real life players, and yes it does help some if your not in a group of friends or real life players. True. With as much attention they put into different stances, it's a wonder why they didn't just make it a dynamic feature, adjusted with the mouse wheel or something.
YOU are teaching me how to play arma 3 :)
You change scopes when you have two using the / key over your number pad
Excellent, thanks!
That editing... awesome.
Your video's are ALLWAYS 10/10. Thanks
Great video, I like the way you explain this stuff.
saw shack tac playing yesterday... wish i could have joined in looked fun :P
Hopefully BIS might add some animations from the SMK mod for Arma 2. It was pretty good, you could urban prone, use walls as cover that you could peek from.....
Yes, but it depends on your definition of silhouetting. Skylining generally refers to being visible at the top of a structural formation (including terrain), however, silhouetting can include anything that makes you visible in terms of contrast; standing in front of headlights or a bright wall, for example.
also in the real world, cover is everything bullets dont penetrate
concealment is all the rest lolol
great vids, helps me get the new things for when ArmA3 releases :)

Get a friend, and play some multiplayer ;) I don't like the AI in this game and I think many people agree.
bigo93 Well, the AI are fucking laser pointers...
@Dslyecxi : Did u already get the hands on the new tank that is shown on the "Bohemia Interactiv".
I have got the theory that this is the experimental Paladin Atillery Tank.
7:26 = OWNED.
Can you do a video on the language of the military? Like, how do you call when you spot a vehicle or a person in the distance. Confirming kills. Just, general speech.
Thanks for this.Really helpfull.
I think he means what if you buy the game now while it is in Alpha will you get the full version as well.
Good to hear. How dare they take pictures while on a tour!
I know the basics of military stuff like speech, types of fire etc. but are the controls for the game generally difficult
Smoke granade time :) and if you are playing vs people not bots you can use distractions like setchels etc ..... throw a grenade toward enemy and a smoke. it will confuse them and cover you a bit ... or place a setchel get to safe position and when the eplosion occurs run ..... I was in infantry, this is real way to deal with enemy contact. Lol games too real. 😅
Thank you for your service!
I'm glad you do or I probably wouldn't have seen this as I didn't know it was uploaded else where.
You really should make a video about how to control an AI team Dslyecxi. There sooo many people that don't have a clue about how to do that properly.
Is the AI in ArmA 3 to be "trusted" when it comes to concealment?
What I mean by that; is the AI made so that they will spot you less easily if you are concealed ( depending on what you hide inside/behind )
If I remember correctly, this was not the case in ArmA 2

Dslyecxi, do you know whether the AI actually gets 'suppressed' in this, as opposed to Arma 2? I know it somewhat happened in Arma 2, but I know a lot of times where multiple squads would pour fire on an enemy position and the AI would just pop out their AKs and headshot us.

"Bounding Overwatch"? uhh...we just call it the Leap Frog tactic
Yeah that sounds so much better. Frogs jumping over each other and such.
Hey Dslyecxi I was wondering when you use a joystick because I have heard that you use mouse and keyboard when flying Little Birds.
Wow man, this video was very informative. I just go into Arma 3 2 days ago by buying the beta. I played a few Arma 2 missions but had no idea what I was doing. It wont let me toggle between walk/run. In the controls it's set to left ctrl + C, but all that does is change my laser out with a flashlight

How do you do the sitting stancfe

Looking at buying the game, if they do have grenade launchers or just grenades at what point would you use them at?
I always wondered: Does the AI in Arma 3 actually react to surpressing fire?
They have supposedly been doing that since the first Arma
Yeah I heard that too so I guess it's true.
Thanks for the reply :)
No prob, if it helps i think they actually do react to surpressing fire, we just dont really see/acknowledge it. have fun!
