Glad you enjoyed your time with the XK. I have the same car, a 2007 model with about 85k miles on it. I've had it for 6 years now and I really love it and just can't think of a good reason to change it!
I think you should keep the Jaguar theme going with an XJR but with the later X350 aluminium bodied car with the 4.2 supercharge engine I have owned one of these for almost 3 years and am very happy with it, it out performs pretty much anything I meet on the road anywhere, if you are ever in the North Suffolk area near the coast you are welcome to come and give it a try, Jack😃
Congratulations on the XK -- I've thoroughly enjoyed your journey with it and am quite envious. Here in Australia they're worth three to four times as much as your sale price!! Looking forward to seeing the XJR!! 😉
As I've previously commented, I like your taste in cars as I have both a De Tomaso Pantera like you and I've a 2010 Jaguar XKR. I told you when you first purchased your XK that you would love it, and even though you had it for only a very short time, it seems that you did like it very much. Your next car ought to be the next progression in the line, a 5.0L XKR. First off, the power of the 5.0L supercharged car is astonishing in comparison to the 4.2L naturally aspirated version.. And if for about a $1000, you add a reputable tune and pulley, you are pushing 600hp and the stoplight races with the Porsche you mentioned will belong to you. The 5L XKR is still no light weight sports car, but is so much fun in a civilized comfortable package. I could sell my gorgeous Pantera in a minute given the right price, but I will never sell my XKR as long as I can still drive, it's been that good! And I have 209,968 miles on my car as of the end of this evening, and it's still that good and enjoyable. And by the way, it will outperform your Pantera as I learned in my experience, and which is why I stopped driving mine for several years until the goodness of the Jag forced me to make the Pantera an all around better car. You will miss the package that the X150 offers, and my guess is that you'll be back in an R version sometime soon. I predicted your Pantera ownership, and I'm predicting you'll take the plunge with an XKR. I'm 11 years into mine and would not ever want to be without it. Good luck with whatever you choose.
This past May I bought an F-Type, a 2016 3.0 S manual transmission coupe. Quite a car, it has all the options, is triple black and has very good presence. 380 HP is more than enough for the hilly and twisty New Hampshire USA roads where I live. I'm interested in getting an x358 Xj Vanden Plas to join it.
I purchased a 2011 XK in 2015. At that time, I paid around $32k for the car with about 47k miles. I have had a few minor issues over the years, oil level sensor and bad led brake light unit. The biggest repair was for a stuck fuel injector where it made sense to replace all 8, and the spark plugs. The only current issues are a sagging headliner (fabric on the way) and the same water leak in the trunk (need to spend some time to track it down). After 9 years of ownership, the car still feels special every time I drive it... and every time I think about selling it... I can't find anything comparable. N/A V8, RWD, heated and cooled (not just ventilated) seats, leather everywhere... its a tough act to follow.
It's good to see Jack blowing the myth of Jaguars being expensive money pits, though if too many people see it the used values might not be such a great bargain any more.
Seen a number of people saying X350 XJR. I'd love you to get one of those next. Should be easy to find one for £7k or under. Keep up the excellent content Jack. 👍
What separates Jack from the other car tubers (Harry excepted) is that he's actually likeable, I hope he doesn't turn into another grinning shmeeunt with time..
You know I used to hate that guy until I learned he does charity events for kids, and will go out of his way to be nice to them with no prompting and lets his friends drive his cars on the ring, as in the Senna and his high end porsche, like he's not a horder, look at my flash, my flash is amazing type, he's just into cars like he has his old first one and everything that being said I can not, not think of the clip from Red Dwarf when he says his name, where lister is trying to get Cryten to break his programing and call Rimmer a Smeghead Red Dwarf - Smeghead scene (S04E01) FYI
The 5.0 litre naturally aspirated facelift version is the sweet spot in the range. Power almost identical to the 4.2 supercharged but with worthwhile updates. Had mine for a year and still loving it.
The 5.0 engine isn't as good as the 4.2. It has timing chain issues and to really make things spicy sometimes it can drop a valve seat into the cylinder. The 4.2 though, is bullet proof.
@@samhunt8240 Other way around - It was the 4.2 that had the timing chain and water pump issues that got fixed later. Its well know that the 5.0 is a better & stronger engine.
@@adrianfowles7250 I don't know where you are getting your information from but it's not the other way round at all. I work at a Jaguar specialist and the 5.0 engine is far more problematic with the issues I have said. Fuel injectors are common problem on them as well.
That's the exact conclusion I came to when I bought mine. Had it 2.5 years and it's been fantastic (it's going to be on fire when I look at it on the drive now). Plenty of power and so comfortable. To make the Jag info system slightly more tolerable I bought a Bovee 1000 for phone connectivity.
Great review that I stumbled across as I am interested in an XK. A suggestion for your next car could be something from AMG. I'm sure there are plenty out there that are in a reasonable price band, but the cost of ownership may be a different matter altogether!
Twelve years ago I bought a black Xkr registered in 2008. black leather interior, black dashboard. It had all original Jaguar services, 25,000 miles and official Jaguar recalls had been issued. Now it has 42,000 miles, I always had it serviced in the official Jaguar garages and the car still runs very well, engine with good power and, despite being a sports car, it is a comfortable car. Two defects due to the poor quality of construction materials and accessories : the pedestrian protection system which is positioned under the bonnet went off, the compressor of the air conditioning system broke, despite the low mileage, the engine oil sump started to leak oil, the fabric of the internal covering of both the roof and the pillars which came off four years ago, and the lights that illuminate the license plate which came off from the rear bonnet when I lowered it to close it. However, my overall opinion regarding my 2008 Xkr is good, probably also because I drive this car very little, and therefore it still has low mileage. I will only sell it when spare parts will be no longer available in Italy and it will be no longer possible to repair it. I still like it today as much as the first day.
Great series of videos - I own a 2008 XK and had it for a little over 2 years and love it - it had 42k when I bought it and now has 63k as it’s my daily driver - nothing compares for the price and still looks the part even though it’s 16 years old. Previous car was a BMW 640d which was a great car but didn’t have the V8 engine note! For you what about a Maserati 4200? Plenty sub £10k and low mileage and what an engine!!!
For me the 4.2s always look a bit pedestrian to me in the pictures but every time I see one in person I certainly take a second look, especially in that light blue colour! The big benefit of the 4.2 is the fact a small number of them slipped into the old £395 tax bracket!
I had a (caviar) 5 litre XK and found it tended to "run away" with me! I changed it for an XJ diesel which is to all intents and purposes just as fast and much more satisfying to own, especially in the colour combination of silver, with parchment seats, wood rim steering wheel and CLEAR windows, instead of the near ubiquitous blacked out ones from B post backwards. It is simply a delicious car and so very much more practical than the XK. I cannot recommend the XJ too highly !
I have a late 2014 xfr with the supercharged 5.0 V8, I have daily driven it for 2.5 years with 0 issues, I cannot honestly think of a car to replace it with, it's absolutely fantastic
Jaguars are very nice , and always been a lot of car for the money , personally always liked the older XJ models, series 1, 2and 3 , XJ40 , x300 models ,and of course, the XJS . However, there is a lot of choice out there. I’m sure , whatever you get , will make interesting viewing
I was going to suggest you could try this car's direct competitor, some would say close cousin, the Aston Martin DB7 but I doubt they can be found in good condition in the same budget. The predecessor of these cars, the XJS or the successor, the F-Type would be nice too as a way to see how they progressed but the budget might be tight on both. Whatever you go for I wish you good luck with the next one!
I owned a 5 litre 2009 XKR 510 hp for 8 years and toured all over Europe , never ever let me down , only replacement was leaky water pump , regularly maintained by Jaguar dealerships although they are not as good anymore. Own an F type 5 litre R AWD 550 PS now , different league , love it
E34 are so hard to come by, they've all rusted away. Why not look at E39 Alpinas, both the B10 (V8 and 6cyl) variants are out there and both really interesting propositions for something a little special/unusual but with mostly 5 series parts still so not crazy to run.
Seconded. The E34 is a fantastic motor however parts are scarce and in some cases non existent. The E39 makes a more sensible option, 530i Sport for me, avoid the V8 cos it's just not that good...
In my personal experience (maybe I just don't buy well), old BMWs really like getting repaired. They are immensely unique in what they offer, but they require too much maintenance for my taste.
I have owned 48 cars, now retired and too old to trade/test and to enjoy sports cars, all are gone and the last one standing is my FORD Truck…yup…. 1 of 600 2019 Harley Davidson limited edition in “Leadfoot” and badged as #457. Big ass truck and so comfy and fun [B&O+], 4x4, and 22” with 35” rubber on a 4” FOX Lift. 70+ mods, but the exhaust is why I bought mine. Still love it and never selling. Oh I took Whippel supercharger off, completely not necessary at my age and could have got me killed. 😅
I have a (US) 2003 XK8 4.2 litre Convertible, and a (US) 2014 5.0 litre XK Coupe. Each car is remarkably different from the other, and I enjoy both for what they are. I suggest, to US buyers, that they opt for an XK with the 5.0 litre, but skip the supercharged version. I have driven them all, and the best daily drivers (and easier on your pocket book) are the normally aspirated vehicles with the larger engines.
I live in Arizona, where older Jaguars are somewhat rare, and drive a 2007 XKR. I think that in buying a high-mileage, plain-Jane XK, you've missed out on a great deal of motoring pleasure. The true "sweet spot" is the supercharged 4.2-litre, which offers superlative performance combined with outstanding reliability. My car, with approximately 66k miles on it, has required absolutely no repairs in the nearly two years I've owned it. Of course, this in part is due to my buying a very well cared-for example. My understanding is that the 5.0-litre, despite its impressive power output, is somewhat more problematic (although there may still be one in my future). I'm aghast to think that your next car might be some boxy, soulless BMW. I suspect that with Jags being more commonplace in England, you simply don't see them for the gems that they are.
They really are a great car, I bought one ('06 model) with the intention of keeping it a year so I could say I've had a V8 then move it on... several years and 69K miles later (it's now clocking in at just over 162K) I've still got it (and I really missed it while it was off the road getting a replacement radiator). Of course with that kind of mileage it's virtually worthless so I'm keeping it. As for replacement? Heart over head I'd say, the one time I bought a car with my head it turned out to be the shortest time I've ever owned a car (nothing wrong with it generally but I hated the damned thing all the same). So go with the XJR if that's what's taking the fancy.
As a current XkR owner, I think that the R is the way to go. Mine is currently for sale, but not for any bad or sinister reasons. It’s a fantastic car. Dave 👍
Enjoyed your brief sojourn with the XK, but I’m not sure that the XF is the way to go immediately. I’d like to see something more ‘classic’ next (E30 would be good but not on salty roads). BTW I think we saw you in the XK briefly flash past Harry Metcalfe in his current i5 BMW review video! Good luck with the next purchase 👍
Yes, I thought I spotted Jack and the XK in that video too! I know Britain's a small country, but I'm sure there must be a few more 's' bends available in Oxfordshire!
I had a 156 v6 3.2 litre the noise from the engine was beautiful. I miss the old alfas. I bought a brera and it had a ford engine, I was so disappointed in the noise and the power
Hello Jack! P.J. O'Rouke once said "..a rented car is the best driver's car.." and, in jest, I quite agree. Congratulations on selling your Xk8, especially on a neglegible financial loss. As you mention it takes much pleasure away purchasing a car with an abnormally worrying upkeep - hence your words on your ex Continental Gt. Nowadays, for the private buyer, not enough emphasis is given to not only upkeep but also depreciation. As for what to buy sub 10k Sterling I've read in the comments such differing opinions.. and I could agree with them all. My opinion is to go with.. another Jaguar, especially the model you mention at the end of your video, the XJR. I belive you've already had one of these (X308) and you seem to miss it! Buy one while they're still sensibly priced is my humble opinion. Alas whatever you decide to replace the Xk8 with, I'm sure it'll be the right choice. Lastly, congratulations to the purchaser of your car.. he's bought a great car!
I would buy a E30 BMW 325i I purchased one cheap doer up er and never regretted it, I now cannot part with it, it has not given me one bit of trouble for 6 years now, but it is up to you to make the final decision. getting another Jaguar would be too soon after last one I think, Look forward to your next fixer up er and watch your process on video.
How about a series on sourcing and importing a Japanese or US import? Or repatriating a classic from S.Africa or Malta? Otherwise I can't see a lot worthwhile in the £5-8k range at the moment other than a 2003 Maserati Spyder 'mini project' (damaged hood) on AT for £7750
Hi Jack I to have been toying with buying a car for £7000 and boxster keeps coming up as a reasonable good idea, but for your channel i think it's a good option too have worked on it more interesting. Thanks for your great work really enjoy the channel 👍
If you can find one, an Alfa 166 would be a great car. I have had two and loved them both even though the second one had an engine blow out on the motorway with a piston going through it like a bullet (despite spending £1k pa on cambelt changes as was doing 30k miles pa back then). Unique car with incredible character and stunning looks
I’m on my 3rd XK. Brilliant cars. I sold my first one. Regretted it. Bought my 2nd xk60 then an xkr convertible. My uncle bought my xk60 and I’m still in my xkr convertible. 4.4xkr is ace. Lighter than 5.0.
I think the Xk has been an interesting subject. Its a nice car and hasmt caused you too much heartache or indeed walletache!. I think perhaps the XkR will be a little too familiar as you said it IS a stonker of a car but not really sufficiently different to support the channel. The Bmw route would be interesting. Ive always fancied an ex police car , ie in this case an unmarked pursuit car, specifically a 330d, priced about 9 to 11k. How about a big old audi A8? Good luck with the decision, whatever you decide i WILL be watching. Best wishes Ben 🇬🇧🇺🇦🚐🚌
Splendid review! You should get an X350, but a diesel and then compare it to your Rover. I wonder how much more expensive it will work out to run, and if it is worth that.
Love the XKR and own a 2006 (x100), but ya gotta mix it up! A classic BMW or Alpha, then come back to Jag. You could make it a long-term arc of coming back to Jag every 3 or 4 cars, working your way through the line up.
I know its random, especially as i despise Audi, but back in the day i worked for them and the 200 5T or the 90 20V Sport Quattro were proper motors and arw around the monet you're talking. Been looking myself of late.
I like em, although I'd be a little afraid of failures - I like to keep cars for a long time. I've always liked straight six Jaguars too, for various reasons, not sure how that still applies to "modern" versions.
Enjoyed your journey with the XK. I'm an XK8 owner and will - one day - swap it for the later version (a 5 litre. Not sure if the R is for me). Trouble is, right now, I'm still in love with my XK8-S... Fully understand why you had to move it on. What to buy next? Surprise us!
I've lost track of what cars you now own...and what was the official replacement to Influenzo. I also notice that you seem to becoming very comfortable with automatic gear boxes. Good video.
You seem to use in part a portion of country road that Harry in Harry's Garage uses for his car reviews? Indeed I've just watched his new very negative piece on the new BMW M5 series all electric behemoth and a Jag coupe just like yours passes him in the opposite direction - I wondered if it was you?
I owned a 12 plate XK. I bought it with barely 8,000 miles on the clock. Ironically after my purchase the cars value increased. I loved my ownership but another car beckoned...
No way! I used to have a 2009 XK 5.0, sold it and replaced it with a 325i touring (e30) I loved the Jag but I far prefer the driving experience of the e30, I think you would too.
Wonder why they're so cheap in GB, here in the Netherlands prices are way higher. Even it's predecessor the XK8 (which i adore as well) is still pretty expensive, if you want a one with not too many miles.
I like the older types 1997-2003 , they have more soul. And that rear end and side looks so much XJ220.... I have an XJ X308 X300/308 Series are the lowest Super Sedan's ever made, slightly higher than an XK8. The 4 Liter V8 XJ/XK Supercharged (compared to 4,2Liter) have no Variable valves, and an MB 5G-Tronic transmission, making them pretty bulletproof. These XL XJ Supercharged are the only Cars, that use the 5G-Tronics 1st Gear, in Sport Mode. MB doesn’t even have this on their own models.. They also have 2 Fuel pumps, one kicks in, when U use kickdown..
Glad you enjoyed your time with the XK. I have the same car, a 2007 model with about 85k miles on it. I've had it for 6 years now and I really love it and just can't think of a good reason to change it!
I thought that way about my 2010 XKR but after 5 years the F-Type itch finally won! 🙂

@@leccybadger I had an E39 530i Champagne II - loved it, but it just wouldn't behave - kept going wrong. Final straw was the torque converter going.
I have a 2007 XK and a 2005 XJR. Both are fantastic cars.
Your next one has to be a facelift 2011 2012 5.0 XKR Coupe You'll love it
I have owned 48 cars, now retired and too old to trade/test and to enjoy sports cars, all are gone and the last one standing is my FORD Truck…yup…. 😅
Looking forward to the next car. Keep up the good work.
Thanks dude!
Go for the Jaguar XKR, absolutely. I tried to convince my wife that we/she needed one (a 2015 AWD), but we had too many vehicles at the time.
RX-8 would be interesting
Only to 2 people it would seem lol
My suggestion for a replacement for that Jag is a Lancia Delta Integrale Evoluzione II but that's a lot more expensive. Lot more special and fun :)
I had a 156 v6 3.2 litre the noise from the engine was beautiful.
I miss the old alfas.
I bought a brera and it had a ford engine, I was so disappointed in the noise and the power
videos like this convinced me to buy a 5.0 2010 n/a. I have just done 300 miles in 4 hours in it is a superb GT car.
Hello Jack!
Stop calling the XK an XK8 - they went out of production in 2005
A nice example of a 996 911. Maybe a 4S. In black if you can. There could be a lot of interesting history to be presented around a Porsche 928 too.
e34 540 , great car had one for 10 years
Where are the wheel centre caps? My OCD is in overdrive
I'm excited for whatever comes next Jack 👍
I would buy a E30 BMW 325i I purchased one cheap doer up er and never regretted it, I now cannot part with it, it has not given me one bit of trouble for 6 years now, but it is up to you to make the final decision. getting another Jaguar would be too soon after last one I think, Look forward to your next fixer up er and watch your process on video.
How about a series on sourcing and importing a Japanese or US import? Or repatriating a classic from S.Africa or Malta? Otherwise I can't see a lot worthwhile in the £5-8k range at the moment other than a 2003 Maserati Spyder 'mini project' (damaged hood) on AT for £7750
Saw your mate with the newer one drive past Harry on his latest video reviewing the bmw.
Yes, just watched Harry's latest video and spotted that too😂
Please consider a prefacelift XF, Jack.
Would you go for a diesel or petrol? The 2.7 diesel had its issues, even though for a diesel of that era it was very smooth, quiet and pacey.
My mate's diesel XF was a write-off due to DPF issues...@@stephendavies6949
A v8 e34 would be a great thing to see
Hi Jack I to have been toying with buying a car for £7000 and boxster keeps coming up as a reasonable good idea, but for your channel i think it's a good option too have worked on it more interesting. Thanks for your great work really enjoy the channel 👍
Love to see an XJR, especially the x308. Wonderful car
I agree with the comments regarding not another jag. Perhaps a Land Rover?
Buy an XKR you will be so impressed.. Dynamic suspension is a superb feature. S Type R will surprise you hugely also..
BMw e39 or 7-series of the same era. Go from GT to luxo-barge. In-direct and would make for a good comparison.
Ironically I went from an XK 5.0 Portfolio to a luxo-barge. Must admit the old XK had been a stunning car. I just needed 4 seats....
Thanks for doing this series, enjoyed it very much, what about a Volvo S60 R or an Audi S8?
Thanks for the video.
How about an SL for the next project?
There are so many around and they would be a good comparison with the XKR.
What a machine for £7K. They were great value at £15K. That V8 sounds amazing.
E30 4 door will be in your budget, e34 would also be nice especially a 530i v8
I think the Xk has been an interesting subject. Its a nice car and hasmt caused you too much heartache or indeed walletache!.
I think perhaps the XkR will be a little too familiar as you said it IS a stonker of a car but not really sufficiently different to support the channel. The Bmw route would be interesting. Ive always fancied an ex police car , ie in this case an unmarked pursuit car, specifically a 330d, priced about 9 to 11k. How about a big old audi A8?
Good luck with the decision, whatever you decide i WILL be watching.
Best wishes
Ben 🇬🇧🇺🇦🚐🚌
Splendid review! You should get an X350, but a diesel and then compare it to your Rover.
I wonder how much more expensive it will work out to run, and if it is worth that.
Lancia Fulvia.... You were already about to go for it once!
Love the XKR and own a 2006 (x100), but ya gotta mix it up! A classic BMW or Alpha, then come back to Jag. You could make it a long-term arc of coming back to Jag every 3 or 4 cars, working your way through the line up.
I think Ben’s advice was good. Keep trawling the net and wait for the oooo that’s nice! Moment to hit you.
I know its random, especially as i despise Audi, but back in the day i worked for them and the 200 5T or the 90 20V Sport Quattro were proper motors and arw around the monet you're talking. Been looking myself of late.
How about an E46 saloon - I've had my stunning 325i manual M-Sport in alcantara for 15 years and think they're absolutely fantastic.
I bought a 2011 xk 5.0 non supercharged and for me it's just an absolute steal. Feels like a super GT for an absolute steal.
I had a stunning 5.0 XK (Portfolio) in black with cream leather. What a car. Only sold it as I needed a saloon car to fit the kids into...
What about giving a Volvo C70 a try or an Alfa 159, both interesting and reasonably rare.
I like em, although I'd be a little afraid of failures - I like to keep cars for a long time. I've always liked straight six Jaguars too, for various reasons, not sure how that still applies to "modern" versions.
There are Thema on the market currently..
Hey Jack, how about something from one of "The Colonies" like the Ford Falcon or Holden Commodore or even if you can fine one a Chrysler Valiant.
You really should go for the R
@@sichere It has crossed my mind...
Love the idea of a classic bmw
Recall Face lift has the 8 speed that is much less of slasher and helps economy.
Shame to see it go as it’s a lovely motor
Would be nice to see an XKR
May a suggest a hairy Nissan Stagea? There is strangely little content on these Skyline estates on the Web.
Watching in the EU, these UK prices amaze me. 6K for a good XK and 400 for servicing that’s more than an oil change.
For the same sort of money you could try the predesessor; the XJ-S (or XJS).
You may have picked it up, the XKR you tested beside this made a guest appearance on Harrys Garage this week.
I've lost track of what cars you now own...and what was the official replacement to Influenzo. I also notice that you seem to becoming very comfortable with automatic gear boxes. Good video.
What about Maserati quattroporte og gt3200?
Oh No! Enjoyed every moment of the XK. Now I definately want one…
Hi Jack, I’m looking forward to seeing the Pantera arriving, when do you expect it?
Definitely an XJR! Preferably a 350 but a 308 would be cool too!
Fiat Coupe 2.0 20vt LE or plus 💥
You seem to use in part a portion of country road that Harry in Harry's Garage uses for his car reviews? Indeed I've just watched his new very negative piece on the new BMW M5 series all electric behemoth and a Jag coupe just like yours passes him in the opposite direction - I wondered if it was you?
I owned a 12 plate XK. I bought it with barely 8,000 miles on the clock. Ironically after my purchase the cars value increased. I loved my ownership but another car beckoned...
Replacement for the Jag? Did you folks get the Ford Mondeo with the 2.7L twin turbo?
I would love to see a 2 stroke car on the channel
How about the direct competitor of the time? The BMW 645ci?
Buy anything from Bristol. British motorcar eccentricity at its finest.
I bought a Triumph from a woman in Bristol. It was a pile of cr4p.
I like the older types 1997-2003 , they have more soul.
And that rear end and side looks so much XJ220....
I have an XJ X308
X300/308 Series are the lowest Super Sedan's ever made, slightly higher than an XK8.
