I wish more people would see this, korea really isnt all about kpop and kdrama's and fantasy. We have our problems.... ps. thank you for the likes. and yes, i do live here in south korea
I'm also agree with this every country have problems plz don't think South Korea only have k-drama and K-pop style lifestyle there is more than that don't look at the cute and fantasy sides only 🙏🙏🙏😭😭😭😭
Homeless and poverty are from different worlds , here in India! It has the worst per capita amongst G20 & the general scenario of poverty is no different from the most underdeveloped countries of Africa. India's richest man , world's 10th richest, Ambani's house is in front of a slum 🤷🏻♀️
I don't think that's a reasonable comparison. In USA, you even pay for the ambulance, have no health insurance not to mention social insurance. But South Korea has a decent insurance policy for the general employee population, they don't have to pay for an IV even if you're just hangover and not actually seriously ill. The thing the government did I think, is that because the elderly population is from the war era and did not really help increase the GDP ("only" founded the country, what a shame), so they are seen as they did not contributed to their futures. Because the fact is, South Korea values large sums of money way too much. USA, on the other hand is mpre concerned about keeping from the public and investing into government operations.
korea has law children have to look after parents monthly 251.61 dollar or children is poor then government give 251.61 dollar to them. so they abandon their children. or they were bad parent so children refuse to cover them by court order. many of them are child abuser because old time it allow in social but law change . and educated children became adult knowing what is child abuser.

I lived in korea for 5 years. I have seen elderly people working on streets, collecting disposible items, etc for living and also elderly people living with their childern and grand childern. My house owner was abt 60 year old and he lived with his childern and grand childern. But he used to do all work on his own. I mean literally all work like cleaning of building, waste management, fixing of lights, etc. I remember when me and my wife had a baby he gave us gifts. He really represented korean rich culture to us. I really appreciated that old, kind, generous, hardworking old man.

JL January yes but some. It means that mostly they took care of their parents coz thats already part of r culture. And of course they are still some cases but its like 1% only. Others were left behind because there children died or something happen. Un like other countries like korea that mostly of them.
In small tribe here in Philippines "tausug tribes" when our parents gets old its the time to pay their strives and sacrifices for us,so we take care of them for the rest of their lives.. love and be kind to your parents even others😉
Because the Philippines is a poor country so people can do that. South Korea is a rich and fast paced country. Society changed. Most people are focused on gaining wealth for themselves rather than wasting time helping their parents or the elderly. Once the Philippines becomes a rich country, this same situation in South Korea will happen there
@@rickwilson2589 its not about how rich or poor the country is. its about the values and how they were taught. how dare u say that taking care of the elderly is a waste of time? maybe you are lack of love and care from your parents to say that huh.
@@rickwilson2589 in the Philippines, no matter how rich or poor you are if you have respect to your parents and you values them you will take care of them. it's not about the money, it's giving them back the effort they've done for us in our younger years. I'm from Poland where there is a huge connection between young members of family with the oldest. I can't even imagine to leave my parents or grandparents behind without looking after them. They did soooo much for me.....but still poverty is a problem in every country in the world
same in our country Philippines. we can't live without our parents even we are old and have work. instead we earn for ourselves, we give/we support our family/parents or relatives who need financial support.but not only for money, but we, Filipinos are loving, caring, and hospitable, and emotional, that's our culture.
After I watch this Blog..My heart ache.. I’m a Filipino, Even we have a government full of Corrupt officials,.We are “RICH in HEART and SOUL” for LOVE and RESPECT for our ELDERLY,.In fact one of our custom is we live with our Lolo and Lola (ELDERLY) and even when we got married we still can live with our Parents..We are like GLUTENOUS RICE,.We stick to each other no matter we have “LOW INCOME” or you are “Rich one”..We have high Respect to our ELDERLY..Whenever our parents get old we take care of them as a way of Gratitude for giving us life and for their sacrifices..
Same here in Indonesia. Even I live in most populous country and has low gdp and poverty everywhere but Im grateful that I live here in the countrt that respect the elders dearly
unfortunately, that cultural value is actually waning for lots of filipinos... we were getting so influenced by contemporary western idea that we dont owe our parents and all that "me, myself, and I" culture
Right we just excited for go to other country we fill other countries are more good develop but every country have facing poverty food poor people have every where so we need to understand that no one country problem free every country have their problems their issue which we don't know
Some want immediate and others deferred pleasure so the former usually stay in need. Working and saving can get you out of poverty but living beyond one's means is a recipe for failure.
As indonesian, i'm not rich but still having proper place to live & good meals. Money is enough too. Seeing this makes feel like I guess the world must know Korea isn't about kpop & kdrama only
I have lived in Korea for some time now and every time I find more reasons to want to stay here for life. Its hospitality, rich culture and the Korean people's mentality which caused such an astounding recovery are some of the things I greatly admire about this place. This documentary was not meant to put down this great country I love so much, yet to shed some light on some of the social problems that, although don't abound, do exist and you will not know about by watching K-dramas or listening to K-pop. I hope you can learn something new by watching this documentary and use it to reflect about how we can contribute to making our own environments a better place from wherever we stand.
Coreanofilos This video just popped out in my recommendations today. I always picture South Korea as a flashy aesthetic place due to their music and TV shows. It's sad to know that they don't give enough attention to their elderly. Young generation these days just ignore what the elderly did to their country in the past in order to obtain what they have today. Having good values is still more important than materials.
The value of the building is not worth it, but did you check the land price? It is a middle-class place when they receive reconstruction permission from the city of Seoul and sponsorship of the construction company.
Thanks for the vid. As you might have heard the new Korean government just revealed a plan for the revision of the constitution. With that, any human beings will be treated equally respected . The focus in on “humans” not only “Korean citizens”. Please keep an eye on the new constitution and the changes it will bring. Thanks to all the political turmoils, many Koreans are waking up. They used to believe in competition and being rich. Now they are starting to understand the importance of “respect” and “service” to each other as fellow global citizens.
Jojo Jo - Please Google causes (plural) of poverty in the USA. You might be surprised. I know of one woman employed in management at GM in the early 80s = AfroAmerican tags to riches story. Something snapped. She was seen talking to herself in downtown Detroit. Drugs? Schizophrenia? Brain tumor? The range of potential answers mind-boggling. Another woman, Caucasian, (Chicagoan?) has a fine life, making progress - for into a car accident - suffered closed head injury - had amnesia - lost everything. No known family. No known address, therefore couldn't qualify for any services. Maybe she died on the streets. Her blog ended with her living in a nasty shelter and volunteering at a soup kitchen to HIDE her plight.
The country could do something but would struggle in doing so as the large number of elders is hard to support with a smaller working age group. With low fertility rates less workers are born to support the elderly. There is nothing they can do unless they can solve the graying of the population. One way is by increasing immigration to the country and they are already taking actions in doing so.
Makes me sick that billionaires are blowing money on fancy boats and million dollar homes and dozens of sports cars when there are people starving to death around the world.
There is no eternal thing for any being born on this earth. Even in past people tried to Claim of Being God or Goddess all that left of them is thier odd stories and thier spider filled coffins and TOMBS. Believe me there is a rule of thumb in this world like nature created so many characteristics in so many thing. No Good is remain unrewarded and no Bad as remain unpunished.
Tweak Heir we dont know their story. Some of them worked hard for it so they kinda deserve it though. And i know they donate also some help on charities... we’ll never know. Right?

South Korea needs to step up and take care of their elderly parents and population. I've been taking care of my disabled mom for the past 8 years by myself, the last 20+ with my dad's help. I can't see her ever surviving without me. the callousness shown to these poor elderly just makes me want to cry.
Callous? South Koreans have some of the longest working hours in the world and one of the lowest birth rates because they don't have time and money for a family. It's not a choice.

There are many shelters for the homeless people from the city. Free food and room. They just reject to enter facilities (Maybe they can't drink at there)

I'm married to a korean, and whenever i see a beggar on the street with my husband, he wouldnt let me share a penny to them :( He would say they are lazy people and it hurts hearing him say that because I came from a third world country. In Korea, if you are young and hard working, you can survive but its different with the elderly.Alot of less previledge elderly here makes money out of recycle papers and bottles that people throws away. People in korea buy almost everything online alot, so each home throws alot of parcel boxes weekly. Also, people who doesn't use water dispenser at home buys bottled waters in bulk for drinking. A less privileged elderly makes money out of it by selling them to junk shops or they sell thier home grown veggies to the open market. I think the government helps the wrong people sometimes. My friend's husband gets financial help from the government they also get free rice monthly, hospital discounts, even alowance for recreational things like watching movies ,fees for parks and etc. He has a stable job but he hides his savings on his sibling and mother's bank account. Even his car is not under his name. He wouldn't let my friend work coz the government might stop the help that they get once they trace thier bank accounts coz it would mean they can support themselves on their own. I dont know how he got that help. But i know he's not suppose to be getting it.
Your f****** husband is bitch. The poor are lazy? That is false, they work harder than any of those ruling class idiots who just profit of slavery and war. F*** Rich people and the south Korean reactionary government who bow down to USA and big capitalist corporations.
His words obviously don't hurt your heart that much because you still married him. Unless he wasn't like that until after you got married but tbh, I find that hard to believe.
i agree...i think they're just lazy...there are lots of work in korea..they hired overseas workers because of shortages of manpower in some small companies...and i think the poverty rate in korea is small...compare to my country(philippines), middle class workers paid not enough for our daily needs. So many unsettlers everywhere and so many crimes...only rich in our country has decent life...middle class like me struggle to live, salary is insufficient and you live in debt forever
contrary to that, Filipinos know how to value their families ♥️ when their parents are getting older, their children will not abandoned them, no one left behind
Thanks for this. I've always seen the glitz and glam of life in South Korea but never thought of the possibility of poverty. You've opened my eyes to this growing concern.
No place here on Earth doesn't suffer from poverty, it's everywhere.. its just that a lot of people or most of the people rather, pretended not knowing and keep on being blinded of what was really happening.
I felt bad for the elderly people who got left behind by the society, whilst if it not from them, Korea won't make it in the economic jungle. I wish the sense of respect would be visible to present and the generations to come. They're not making a progress. They're just making a stable economy in general but not progress. Because progress is when you, along the people who helped you achieve your goals, succeed. And no one will be left behind. That is the true definition of progress. I hope those who are desperate to get into the First World standard, would realize that.
all of us will reach that old stage in our lives....so sad that when you get old this is what will happen to you, cause you are no longer useful to the society...how sad....I think their children should look after them since these old people when they were stronger they also worked hard for their children and now that strength is no longer with them, they have been left behind...
Angelita Agustin This is what quran says about it And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. quran surah 17 verse 21
John Snow let's be honest. Kpop is what's bringing the money in to the economy too. And those idols have jobs too. They need to support themselves. What needs to change is the governments attitude and this stupid idea of class and status that we hold so dearly to which always results in "it's your fault because you're poor,". Because even though they stop giving Kpop it's importance, it still doesn't change the opinion they have on the elderly who live in poverty.
Please don't abandon your parents . They are the ones who have us life. If you do that to your parents one day it will get back to you . . Treat parents like Gods
I'm sure it's very nice video which shows the dark side of Korea. But as Korean, I can sure those who in video are really really a few part of Korea. Every country has its problem to be solved and so does Korea. Please don't generalization that all Koreans don't respect Old people... We also respect old people and try really hard to solve the problem showed in the video.
Exactly! Every country has its problems. What many are trying to say here is....is ignoring the elderly a problem? They should be respected part of Korea, not a country's problem!
I understand.. As just because the international media likes to show the garbage dumps and slums always, foreigners think whole India is dirty ,dangerous and poor. Things shouldn't be generalized! Thanks for reminding..
Once I visited Washington D.C in the middle of very cold winter day, I saw several young beggars stood hopelessly. Next day morning, I saw TV news and shocked with the deaths of those hopeless young beggars. An other case when I visited Japan Tokyo, I toured Ueno Park, and saw many tents under large trees, where homeless people live there. And even more homeless people were seen near subway train paths. Every large cities in the world have the same kind of poor people.
This just breaks my heart…I would never abandon my parents…I even care for my grandmother and care for other elderly people as I’m a care assistant (care giver)we as the young generations need to appreciate and respect the elderly they have done so much for us and joined wars to win our freedom….shame on those who disregard them like there nothing….
Oh so that's why, in Kdramas, parents are always most of the time dead, because Korean adults live under this tradition of throwing their parents away. Though, in some kdramas, they show how young kids are earning and taking care of their parents.
i have lived over 15 years in Korea, during that time i have witnessed many cold hearted and cruel acts by the Koreans towards one another. I found it hard to understand, because these people were so warm and kind towards me. Although we Americans could stand for some improvement on how we treat our elderly. I think we are light years ahead of the Koreans.
well many come to mind but some of the ones that stand out were little children who were amerasian or even full blooded Koreans digging through garbage to get something to eat. elderly people standing on the street corner try to sell some gum or candy while young thugs would pass by and spit in their cups. also the yellow slave market where young girls who may come from troubled homes were bought and sold for the sex trade industry like chattel. i have found if you fit the norm you can do quite well in Korean society but if you are outside the norm it can be very rough.
As an American, I don't see America as any better. The things Americans do to each other can be just as bad or worse. There are many elderly ppl who are abused and ignored in AmerIca. The gov't barely helps the homeless and the poor. All the programs to help are usually the first to get budget cuts. Each country has their own problems and to say one is better than another just shows egocentric pride.
Every civilized country has a social assistance program to help the underprivileged. Where do you live that everyone is so rich and well off that no one needs a hand up now and then?
This is such a shame. Shameful that the government does not do more for the elderly. All civilized countries should be judged by how they treat those who cannot help themselves. The elderly, disabled and orphans are society's responsibility. Of course families should take care of their family members but that is not always possible when many struggle to take care of themselves. I am so sad to see young people in South Korea become so self centered. It seems to be all about me, me, me, me. I understand that many young people are over educated and struggling to find employment. But they must remember, their struggles are not comparable to what past generations had to struggle with. I see young people enjoying the fruits of the labor, sweat and tears that the older generations worked to build South Korea into what it is today. While our parents and grandparents skipped purchasing pleasures and putting away savings for themselves to feed and educate their children better, this generation complains about not getting hired at top companies like Samsung. Stop acting like spoiled brats and take those jobs at mid-level companies and help build it into another Samsung. You are not entitled just because you have a great education. It's quite sad to hear that many educated young people feel that many jobs are beneath them and they would rather be jobless than take these jobs. Any honest work is good work. I feel so sorry for these elderly, I hope the new president creates a better welfare system for them. They should not go hungry or homeless. Young people should not dismiss them as lazy or irresponsible, that's just an excuse so you can go get your $5 Starbucks without guilt. If you see a homeless elderly, please skip your Starbucks and show some compassion. Young people seem to be demanding justice and fairness in their society as manifested by recent South Korean politics but justice, fairness, compassion starts with the most basics of humanity and that's to take care of our children, aging parents and those who cannot help themselves.
Cali Dreams Totally agree on what you said word for word! What are the ways to show younger generations that they need to be more attentive and compassionate towards the elders? It's also the older generations to teach the younger ones.
We do not have all those natural resources like shale and coal gas under the land like USA and Europe. We only have human resources. So it is kinda inevitable to leave some people behind on the progress. But what you pointed out on luxurious living that young people are going for is one of main problem. And reluctance of working in mid-tiered company is also one but I wish this culture that the employees have to drink alcohol heavily on yearly end of season must change somehow. And the ineffective long working hours like 12 or more hours is something South Korea must solve step by step.

When i went to korea two years ago in december i went to hongdae with my older cousins. I saw a homeless man lying down in the streets in the frigid weather with no shoes on and i felt so terrible for him. And to make matters worse, no one acknowledged him. Every one passed by him as if he were nothing. So i wanted to do a good deed of the day because i hate to see someone suffering like that, so i donated 10,000 won, (about 10USD). My cousins saw what i did and scolded me for it, and i actually felt ashamed. They told me he was just an actor and not actually homeless. But honestly the state he was in, it was clear he was not an actor to be doing something like that. I was angry at my cousins but i didnt show it. Im just appalled at how the young generations of korea treat their homeless population.
but sorry.. he has large chance to be an actor. Korean welfare doesn't allow to be like that unless he wants to be.. or in serious position like into gambling, alcholaddict, or have been to jail.. that's why Koreans think lying down in street is acting
The korean movie titled "Parasite" brought me here. Most of my korean friends told me that most poor koreans live in the mountains that is why they are not commonly seen in the cities.
Dear thea I know in that movie they have shown difference between poor and rich I have nothing against poor people because there was a move made in india Salaam Bombay in that movie they had shown exactly the life of people as they have shown in parasite in this movie they had shown about a girl how she gets trapped in a flesh trade
On my trip to south Korea I encountered a few elderly living in poverty and I will tell you, they are the sweetest people I have ever met in my entire life, I don't look Korean, I speak very little but they still showed me unforgettable kindness when I was lost, or when it was raining, I love the elderly in south Korea with all my heart. The elderly in my birth country where I look very Filipino don't even treat me as kind as the elderly in south korea. I wasn't sure where my stop was to get to my hotel, a not too wealthy looking elderly man rode with me and told me when to get off. On my last day I was waiting at the air port shuttles bus stop and it was raining, the bench was a little wet so I stood with my umbrella until a small kind elderly woman wiped down the seat and pulled me to sit with her, she was living at that bus stop. She tried to talk to me but I barely understood, she asked which airport I was going to and she pointed me to the correct bus, I knew it wasn't correct but I couldn't respond back so I just smiled, I wish I could've talked to her more but all I could do is say thank you and leave when my bus came, it broke my heart, all the people in Korea stole my heart, the amount of kindness a lot had for me, I want to work hard in school so that I can give to them, that wonderful old woman might not be there, I think about her every day, Im sad I don't remember her face too well, but I miss her and I knew her for 10 minutes, thats how big of an impact she made on me.

You got that right. So no one should be fighting & pointing out other countries’ fault. There’s poverty & prostitution everywhere. There are good & bad people too. There are people who care for their elderly & their children in every country & there are also those who couldn’t care less. Let’s not find fault. In your own way, do what you can to alleviate the problem wherever or whichever country you’re from.
I dearly love my parents and even though we live far from them...I talk to them daily to see how they are doing...my parents taught me so much about compassion, generosity, love etc etc....I passed it on to my children but alas, in western society...we can set a good example but it does not always succeed...I hope, my grandkids never treat their parents unlovingly...we shall see once they are grown...this documentary is heart breaking...with their population becoming elderly with less children...they will taste what they have done to their parents...a sad cycle
Poverty and the homeless situation is all over the world and it's really a sad situation!. The children of these elders should at lease take care of their parents or pay for them to live in a nursing home!. I work a full time job and I take care of my 82 year old mother who has early signs of dementia. We all wouldn't be here if it wasn't for our Parents and Elders, in my eyes they are my Joy & Love from God!. Times have change and Its generation!.
Because of K-Pop, I wanted to look more into Korea. The Philippines is much more different than in South Korea. Seeing how every place contains poverty, makes my heart ache. Elders are being attacked by poverty in SK... When my heart aches, I realize that people don't even have a heart for people who suffer these things. This video describes how billions of people are dying of something as terrible as this. I only thought of how big South Korea was because of K-Pop industry, internationally people are getting into K-Pop but did they know this? Living in the streets and drinking soju. Desperate to die so they chose this life decision. They're depressed, neglected, and sad. All they're asking for is help, so why not do it?
Yes, poverty is everywhere. One of the first things that impressed me about South Korea was its tradition in respect of their elders. It was something quite lacking in my culture and I’ve seen the consequences of it. I was disappointed to hear South Korean culture has let care of the elderly slip. I hope there is a wake up call in their society to return to that virtue. No matter your nationality, you should respect and care for your aging parents.
I can't even imagine leaving my parents without anyone looking after them when they get old. I can sacrifice just like what they did for me during my younger years.
it's unthinkable how a kid can just abandoned their parents or grandparents. they were the one who paid for them in the past. in indonesia, we also sometimes get a news about abandoned elders, but it's not so severe as there are a complex which consist only elders. even the poor families keep their elders with them. even if they didn't get welfare, family support should be enough for them. around that age, present of family members is more important than money.

That's really the difference between our culture. For us Filipino children, we voluntarily help our parents. Who wouldn't want to see their parents at least enjoying their lives when they are still with us. Although I'm not rich and have my own family, I am still helping my siblings in times of emergencies. European people think negatively and don't even us understand why we send money to our parents. I am still fortunate to live here in Germany. I can eat whatever and whenever I wanted to. I hope that nobody will neglect their parents hardships from raising them and at least try to watch over them until the end of their lives. God bless you all ❤️❤️❤️
I'm watching this and got me thinking how critical it is to fix this problem...I don't just blame the government but the society and in each families to educate their own kids to look back at the helpless and homeless and especially the elders...otherwise it'll be a big cycle that will one day come back to us when we get old. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work.
Here In The 🇵🇭, If You Do Not Take Care Of Your Elders, You've Failed The Tradition. We Filipinos Take Care Of Our Elders Since They Took Care Of Us When We Were Younger. Love From 🇵🇭👍👍🙏
So sad and irony "collapse of traditional family values". "The percentage of children who think they should look after their parents shrunk from 90 to 37%"
One of the reasons why we (im a korean btw) have so much elders living in poverty is because of our old culture. It used to be that when people got old in ancient korea, they were taken care of by thier family and neighbours. With that kind of expectation many people from the older generations didnt really prepare much for their post retirement future. This caused overwhelming influx of elders who cant support themselves well. The generations after them now know that one has to plan and save money for retirement. So Im guessing the relative portion of epders living in poverty will drop as time goes on.
Filipinos aren't the ones who leaves behind their elders. We have here what we called the extended family, it doesn't matter if were too much in our 🏡 but the important things is were all together.
I am staying in South Korea and to be honest most of the Koreans are living well because they worked really hard. I didn’t see people struggling in my area.
We have different cultures, practices, and beliefs but here in our country, the Philippines, we pay enormous respect and care to our elderly people that we live in the same house because that's what we are know for- having close family ties. ❤️
I've just spent 2.5 months living in Seoul and I saw many poor people sleeping in the subways. This surprised and shocked me as I thought everyone was fairly well off there. The Korean government need to wake up and deal with this and assist these people. It made me so angry.

I live in USA, we have homeless people begging for money in almost every intersection. My point is that poverty is in every country.
I agree. It just have different degree of what or how "poverty" is defined in a particular country.
Homeless and poverty are from different worlds , here in India! It has the worst per capita amongst G20 & the general scenario of poverty is no different from the most underdeveloped countries of Africa. India's richest man , world's 10th richest, Ambani's house is in front of a slum 🤷🏻♀️
Agreed with this
I don't think that's a reasonable comparison.
Not in Singapore
SHAME on the children who abandon their elderly parents. What goes around will come around.
What if they had no children ? and their family are all deceased.
korea has law children have to look after parents monthly 251.61 dollar or children is poor then government give 251.61 dollar to them. so they abandon their children. or they were bad parent so children refuse to cover them by court order. many of them are child abuser because old time it allow in social but law change . and educated children became adult knowing what is child abuser.

I hope you can learn something new by watching this documentary and use it to reflect about how we can contribute to making our own environments a better place from wherever we stand.
Coreanofilos
This video just popped out in my recommendations today.
The value of real estate is not merely a poor view of the world. Even though they are poor, they have a futuristic value of real estate development.
Coreanofilos are you a Filipino?
Thanks for the vid. As you might have heard the new Korean government just revealed a plan for the revision of the constitution. With that, any human beings will be treated equally respected . The focus in on “humans” not only “Korean citizens”. Please keep an eye on the new constitution and the changes it will bring. Thanks to all the political turmoils, many Koreans are waking up. They used to believe in competition and being rich. Now they are starting to understand the importance of “respect” and “service” to each other as fellow global citizens.
SO SAD when a country abandons the elderly !
Alabanza Korea abandons those living in poverty.

Here are just some examples worth watching that have characters in poverty
Dramas:
I'm sorry I love you
My mister
The innocent man
Will it snow for christmas?
Misaeng
What happened in Bali
Cain and Abel
War of money
Strangers from hell (horror)
Autumn in my heart
A love to kill

Movies:

The chaser
Silenced
Diary of June
Traffickers

A lot of homeless people in my country freeze to death. There was a video of homeless people in alaska and apparently every year they find bodies buried under the snow or dead in their tents and shit....

My friend's husband gets financial help from the government they also get free rice monthly, hospital discounts, even alowance
for recreational things like watching movies ,fees for parks and etc.

South Korea should stop giving more importance in kpop and their image but rather give importance to these elderly people.

50% percent of Elderly live in poverty in South korea. Do you know how much that is? Hiding problem is not going to help South korea.

I think we are light years ahead of the Koreans.
mcdradus may I ask what cruel acts? I am curious.
well many come to mind but some of the ones that stand out were little children who were amerasian or even full blooded Koreans digging through garbage to get something to eat. elderly people standing on the street corner try to sell some gum or candy while young thugs would pass by and spit in their cups. also the yellow slave market where young girls who may come from troubled homes were bought and sold for the sex trade industry like chattel. i have found if you fit the norm you can do quite well in Korean society but if you are outside the norm it can be very rough.
As an American, I don't see America as any better. The things Americans do to each other can be just as bad or worse. There are many elderly ppl who are abused and ignored in AmerIca. The gov't barely helps the homeless and the poor. All the programs to help are usually the first to get budget cuts. Each country has their own problems and to say one is better than another just shows egocentric pride.
why should government be in the business of helping anybody?
Every civilized country has a social assistance program to help the underprivileged. Where do you live that everyone is so rich and well off that no one needs a hand up now and then?
almost every county has this dark side
_軍Inferno As My Life all the countries*
_軍Inferno As My Life even here in America
Yeah
#ShitWhitePeopleSay
Well spoken.Hang onto those ideals.

When I grow up, I'll help those who deserve my help. I'll mark my words!!
*So Sad...* 😕😕😕
love the elders...
*most of them sacrificed for the future generations..*
Because of KPop? How old are you? lol
before watch this video i thought every one have a good lifestyle in South Korea bt i was wrong
partha Das every country has poverty problems. Look at Japan's poverty areas
Stop watching silly Kdramas. Real life is different.
Kuro Neko i agree. but this poverty area is rare in s korea
Kuro Neko majority of South Koreans are middle classed
Poverty is all around the world no matter if the country if rich or poor, as long as selfishness exist things like this will still be in our world :/
Yes, poverty is everywhere.
Did I ever cross anyone's mind that a lot of these people may not have children?

We all share the same roof... great grandparents, grandparents, uncle's, aunt, cousins, helpers, family of helpers. You name it we have it.

Love From 🇵🇭👍👍🙏
So sad and irony
"collapse of traditional family values".
"The percentage of children who think they should look after their parents shrunk from 90 to 37%"
Western influence is increasing day by day 😥😣
And just within 15 years... so sad
Last November 2018, I was in South Korea and witness a few street dwellers. I wonder where would they sleep during cold seasons?
Korea Must Be Thankful, compared to the poverty life on other countries 😔
Behind the riches have a poorest people who need more attention..
Not only in Korea All over The World..
This shows that no one is perfect
Thank god my grandmother has a house to live in!
Greetings from Michigan USA!
As a poor person in S.Korea , I'm thankful that Soju is still affordable..

Filipinos aren't the ones who leaves behind their elders. We have here what we called the extended family, it doesn't matter if were too much in our 🏡 but the important things is were all together.
I am staying in South Korea and to be honest most of the Koreans are living well because they worked really hard. I didn’t see people struggling in my area.
this is so sad at the end of the day this are the same parents who raised you until you were able to reach where you are ,they can not do this .
We have different cultures, practices, and beliefs but here in our country, the Philippines, we pay enormous respect and care to our elderly people that we live in the same house because that's what we are know for- having close family ties. ❤️
India too
I've just spent 2.5 months living in Seoul and I saw many poor people sleeping in the subways. This surprised and shocked me as I thought everyone was fairly well off there. The Korean government need to wake up and deal with this and assist these people. It made me so angry.
Yes it is quite astonishing to see very old people work here,,,,,somewhat is inspiring yet its heart wrenching :'(
