I did Ancestry DNA and one day I got a message from someone saying that we matched as 1st or 2nd cousins. My mom has one brother but my dad is one of 5 he is the 2nd youngest and the oldest was over 10 years older. We assumed the oldest must have been his father cuz he was in his 20s at the time he was born and unfortunately he had already passed away so my new cousin couldn't meet his biodad. I felt bad and my mom was emailing one of my other uncles about the situation asking about the oldest brother and it turns out the uncle was emailing was the father. He had gotten a girl pregnant in high school and she was forced to give up the baby. My uncle left his door open every year on the baby's birthday hoping it would help them find each other which I think is the sweetest part. So my uncle and his son were reunited he got to meet all his grandkids. I always was so grateful that I was able to bring them together I was the only one in my family at the time who had done the DNA testing after that my mom did hers also

Not my family but my bff's-
The day of her graduation, her grandfather gets a phone call after the ceremony. This man is very sarcastic and slick, rarely ever rattled, but as he has the phone to his ear his face goes white and begins to visibly shake. We begin to panic, wondering if he was having a medical emergency, until he begins crying. The phone call was from a long lost grand daughter.
When he was in high school, he fathered a child, but was cut off from her due to the mother's family being extremely devout Mormons. He wanted to provide and know his child, but they refused unless he converted. Grand daughter left the faith and found him after DNA testing. As far as I know, the daughter is still estranged due to remaining in the faith.
A few weeks later, he flew out to meet her in person. My BFF even got to meet her new cousin. I will never forget that moment, the look on his face and the pure emotion when he received that call.

Did an ancestry tree back in early 2019. A few days after setting the tree up, I kept on getting a bunch of “hints”. It turns out that my mom’s fam is descended from one of the Salem “witches”. I am the 10th great granddaughter of Martha Carrier. Literally NO ONE in my family knew. They all think that they’re Irish and Native American, even though the DNA tests we took in 2016 proved otherwise. We are English (obviously) and Scottish with no Native American in our bloodline.

A lot of people that claim Native American heritage and don't have any used it as a way to lord themselves over people. Like "well we were here first/longer" kind of thing. More common in southern families, I think, but maybe that's how it started in your family.

@@WarDragon72345 sorry for the late response. Yeah, obviously my fam is from New England. However, over generations, we migrated south to the mid Atlantic (primarily New Jersey, but I was born in Pennsylvania and raised in Delaware). @@darkangel7589 You can of course still have First Nations ancestry and be registered in some tribes (not sure how it works for most of them) and look white as a ghost but more often than not when someone's claiming they're descended from whatever tribe, it's just a family lie that's been passed down.

I am 55 now but when I was 20-ish (can’t remember exactly) my dad told me that I had an older half sister. When he was about 19, he got his girlfriend pregnant and they put the baby up for adoption. This was in the early to mid sixties in conservative southern Manitoba where babies raised without benefit of marriage just do NOT happen.
Years later she tracked down her bio parents and the rest is history. I and my sister have maintained a relationship with her family.
The weird thing was my mum’s reaction. By this time they had been divorced for a number of years. I told her about it and her response was “So he finally told you huh?” EXCUSE ME MUM?! “It was his secret to tell you. Not mine.”
Turns out that dad told her all about it while they were dating. So it wasn’t a secret from the ENTIRE family. Just certain members.

When both my grandparents passed, their sons let it out that the youngest brother wasn’t my grandfathers. They had split up because my grandfather was abusing her physically. (Another secret). I couldn't imagine being murdered over the likes of Biden and Donald. That's just crazy. Back then... I'm guessing Ronald was president, maybe? That's just as bad.... Here's a wild one for you...
I knew this girl who's " much younger sister" was actually her younger half-brother's kid that he had illegitimatly when he was 13. The mother, at the time, was in her mid 20s and should have been sent to prison. Apparently, she wasn't fit for motherhood and wanted nothing to do with the kid. That's when the 13 year old boy's mother adopted her and became her legal guardian; thus, how she became the girl that I knew's "sister"... which would technically make her father, her brother. And that was that. People around here all too often turn the cheek the other way when it comes to abuse. And usually it's because it involves someone who supplies the victims parent with their dope... and no one wants to upset the dope man. That could mean being cut off...
I'm not sure how that all was worked out, and how the news was broken to her as she gotten older. The girl I "knew" ... back in 2018, she died from an overdose... although, many believe that this dude she was hanging with deliberately shot her up with his insulin without her knowing he did a switcheroo. He had a history of drugging girls dating back to high school. Many also speculate that he tried putting the moves on her. And when she shot him down, he did what he did in a fit of rage... instant diabetic coma from insulin shock

It wasn't exactly a family secret for me but it was for my grandfather. It's definitely a interesting anecdote of my family history for me.
My grandmother was my grandfather's second wife. His first wife was a McCoy. The Hatfields and them were still feuding during the time they were married but my grandfather had no idea about the feud because they got married and lived on the west coast of the United States outside of the Hatfield and McCoy territories.
They ended up divorcing and Grandpa got custody of the kids, as far as I've been told she was unfit to be a mother and more than happy to get out of the marriage. My grandmother ended up adopting both of them.
The lady left for parts unknown and died some time later; the rumors had it that she ended up getting killed as part of the Hatfield and McCoy feud, however since she was divorced at the time and nowhere near where my grandfather was he and the kids were not assassinated as well.
Both of the kids live to old age and had children and grandchildren of their own, so there's technically a branch of The McCoys living down the street from me under a different name and I am related to them through marriage.

It only came to light when one of the cousins passed and left a very large sum of money to the other cousin. Mind you she was married at this time with two children. So people were naturally curious why he would leave nearly 6 figures to his cousin . The truth came out at his memorial. Where there was a lot of drinking and she broke down about him being her true soul mate and how she thinks of him everyday. That it's not fair she couldn't be with him and her daughter couldn't know her father because of the "shame" that would come with it. She said this in front of her husband. That was a very awkward funeral to say the least.

It means that the mother tried to k*ll the daughter, herself and other kids by slitting their wrists before the approaching red army (Russians) arrived. The Russian army was notorious for r*ping and slaughtering any civilians they found as they “liberated” Germany from the Nazis. Sounds like the same tactics and justification being used by the Russians in Ukraine today.

Did ancestry DNA of curiosity on ancestry. People confuse me with any number of minorities. In Mexico, people will begin a conversation in Spanish, Asians will give me a longer look wondering if I am Asian, I could blend in most anywhere in the world. Of course, it would be great to be part Native American.
Nope. I am Whitie McWhight. Scots Irish and German. not a drop of anything else.

I’m half welsh and half English/Scottish but no one really knows where my mums family is from before they moved to the welsh vallies, the main theory is somewhere in Scandinavia, and my paternal grandfather has been dead since 1977, and he was from Zimbabwe so when the ancestry test I ordered arrives I’m excited to see my results.

It was spilled to me, but the husband of my cousin (5 kids) r-word and sa'd her younger sibling (she was 16 he was past 30). My uncle did not believe her and forced everyone to shut up about it. The cousin is still married to the dude (who got a 18 yo pregnant as a 40 yo btw) and would do anything to keep him.
I don't think my uncle knows I know

Women who know about sexual abuse but who stay with the abuser and allow him access to the children are second only to the abuser himself in terms of how absolutely foul they are
