  • Here is a 6-month update on my AC joint surgery (mumford procedure). So sorry for late upload, but life kept throwing curveballs at us. In this video, I will go over the one thing that I can do without pain and the one thing that has kept me sane during not being able to work out for over a year.
    Please sub for more vids and give us a like :)

    Thanks for posting these. Love the content.
    I am very similar with grade 3 borderline 5 ac separation that attempted rehab in place for 10 months but was too unstable and tore my anterior deltoid at 6 months At 10 months I had ac reconstruction surgery. In a large bump sling for 8 weeks. It has been up and down with 2 major setback going back into sling at times for pain relief. I’m at 7 months post op now and I am basically at pre surgery activity levels. It does feel much more stable and sleeping is ok for me. It was hard in beginning also. Light weight lifting now. My biggest suggestions is don’t overdo it early. Ice like crazy for pain relief. I still do it every night watching TV etc. it helps. Also don’t forget to stretch. I found arm pit stretch to limit ac impingement to be amazing at mobility and pain relief.
    Best of luck to anyone with this injury
    It sucks but does get better eventually.

      Thanks a lot for your input…man, 8 weeks in a sling, so brutal. I’m happy to hear u r lifting light weights. I hope to join u soon 🤞🤞 and yes, totally agree with not jumping into too much too soon. 2022 better be an upgrade from 2021 😬🤞👍💪

    Thanks for the videos. I had AC surgery 3 months ago, along with a rotator cuff repair, rotator cuff tendon repair, and re-anchoring nearly 360 degrees of labrum tearing. It is still very painful in certain angles and rotations. My doctor also said 4 to 6 months but it sure seems like it will be longer.

      Yea that is a lot to deal with…sorry u have to go through this. I think around a full year before it will be ok again…I’m coming up on a year here soon, and I’m not too confident. If by the fall I still have pain, I’ll do another MRI, but it’s such a war dealing with insurance and doctors etc 😫😫😫

    From a swimmer, find a swim coach to aid with stroke technique. Get half dozen or so lessons. Use swim fins. They will help with your body position. Good luck.

    Hello and thank you for your videos! I had this surgery five months ago and have experienced similar symptoms as you have documented in each video.
    At six months did you by chance experience any muscle pains/spasms in your back below your scapula? Also, my AC joint still aches and what I'm assuming is scar tissue at the AC joint 'pops' out a bit when I lift my son from the ground. Did you also experience what felt like tissue popping out of your AC joint as you lifted an object?
    Thanks!

    I had a grade 5 separation and didn't do surgery. 8 weeks later full movement and doing gym/lifting with only slight discomfort. I definitely lost strength but beyond excited with my recovery. Just have to live with the deformity from separation...

      Thanks a lot for reaching out. Yes that would be great. We can chat here or feel free to email danesintexas@gmail I’m having ups and downs atm. Some days I feel great and others not so good. Atm my bone pain is devastating if I try to push with my arm or press, very frustrating. When I do exercises it’s only minor and mostly some form of rowing or external rotator. It’s been 10 months now. I still stretch gently but it seems like there is no improvement. One day at a time 😞

    I got a fixation plate put in 2 months ago, and then removed this week. Since removal I have lost the ability to elevate my arm and there is numbness. I think there may have been serious nerve damage. Any similar stories here?

      @@DanesinTexas Thanks for the positivity lad! Ill keep trying. Were you trying to exercise it? on meds?

    • @DanesinTexas
      @DanesinTexas  2 роки тому +1

      @@countsmyth no more meds. Had too many in college doing sports with other injuries and had my fair share here too. I’m keeping my shoulder mobile with daily light activity and stretches. Not too much pressing atm but been doing some TRX this summer since I didn’t have access to gym and that does not make it flare up the next day so that always nice.

    u feel numbness and tingling in hand after surgery?

    • @DanesinTexas
      @DanesinTexas  Рік тому +1

      Yes I did feel some numbness. More in the neck area than anywhere else but also in hand a bit. Here two years later that has gone away thankfully. But I’m still struggling with certain exercises.

    Hey I'm 12 months excision of distal clavicle 8mm. The pain on top of AC joint still feels inflamed, reaching out, picking up, mostly anything pushing, unable to do a push up. I don't know what to do ! I might also have nerve damage I thought it is inflammation. I recently had a scan and I had an inflamed bursa so I got a cortisone injection in the bursa it gave some relief but after using it again the pain is back. I can't shadow box and it really hurts doing a hook and other movements. This really sux...

      Oh man I am so sorry to hear that. I can totally relate, and it really does suck big time. It’s only recent (about 14 mo post op) that I have been able to do some exercises. I just uploaded a 15 month update with some of the exercises that I am doing currently, but it is limited. Swimming helped me the most and chiropractic visits, especially with the never problems. Hang in the man, keep us updated 👊

      Hi guys. I am from England and had a distal clavicle resection of the AC joint on my left shoulder 6 months ago now. I can really relate to everything you say and the frustration you feel. My passion is weight training and I’ve not been able to work out for nearly 2 years now due to the debilitating pain. Before having the surgery, I was a bit sceptical but the surgeon reassured me that that the success rate was quite high and that having keyhole surgery instead of open surgery would reduce the recovery time to about 12 weeks post op. Can i ask did you have open or keyhole / anthroscopic surgery?
      6 months on, and my pain is just as bad - if not worse- than it was prior to the surgery. My surgeon said the pain is being caused by the scar tissue that has formed in the gap between the acromion and clavicle, so gave me a cortisone injection to settle it down. I gave it 7 days and the pain had pretty much gone, so I was excited to start lifting light weights again…well the same familiar pain returned within days and I was absolutely devastated! Surely I should be able to perform light activities without feeling pain? It just makes me feel that the surgery was a complete waste of time and I really don’t know where I go from here. It’s so so frustrating and I just can’t see it ever getting better at this moment in time 😔

      I’m in the same boat as you guys but haven’t had a operation yet would you guys say it’s worth it? My shoulder and ac joint feels fine until I start doing boxing which is my sport so not sure if I should leave it. Anything would help Cheers

    I'm thinking of having an AC Excision. I have a bursitis under the joint. Weak arm. Pain. Etc. Thank you for the videos. I look forward to the next update video. I pray that you finally get the results you expected. So far, scary so that opened my eyes.

      Thank you. And yes, it’s a lot more painful and irritating that I thought it would be, and that the surgeon implied. I have good days and bad days, and do my exercises on the good ones. Sleep has been the absolute worst.

    Thanks for doing this video. I'm two days out after having an ac joint excision and subacromial decompression myself after years of pain caused by a compressed nerve. Its not pleasant hope things improve for you 2022 buddy the nerves can take 3 months if not a bit more to regenerate supposedly so hang in there..

      Top man thanks buddy. we're men and want to fix the problem and work on it, but nerves and a lot of other things just need to heal, what's that saying take the time it takes so it takes less time.
