Wow this is great. Finally a video that helps! I injured my ac joint 2 weeks ago while snowboarding and I’ve been doing your exercises and I finally feel I’m progressing! Thank you
By far the best channel for injury and rehab advice. Zero gimmicks, zero fancy BS, not selling anything, just straight up practical advice. (Coming from someone who has suffered and recovered from several joint issues in the past). Not only do you guys have immense knowledge and expertise, but also a ton of integrity - which is rare these days.
Great work! I'm a physio myself and suffered from a rockwood/tossy 3, 2 years ago. I spend quite some time researching to add to my knowledge for the recovery process. In the process i had to learn that i didnt find anything that communicated information in an accessible fadhion for a patient without a medical background. Even with my training finding helpfull resources and applying them to my recovery was difficult. No clinical guidlines or trainingpeogramms. This is very much needed and will serve a lot of people well.

This is an incredible video. Very well done and super informative. Best one I’ve found. Just separated my shoulder two days ago. Going to follow this program! THANK YOU

It is by far the best educational video I have ever watched on any topic. If you can't sum it up un 5 minutes chances are it will be fluffy understanding.
I should have watched this video 8 years ago when i suffered a grade 3. At the time I was advised against surgery by a shoulder specialist albeit with a significant deformation of the shoulder. I still have drastically weaker left shoulder due to its instability, and this imbalance has caused knock on effects... in short I regret not trying surgery
Thanks a lot... I have recently undergone AC joint reconstruction and sub acromial decompression surgery. I follow your 'How to improve your shoulder range of motion ' video for my rehab. I also follow your knee pain video for lower limb strengthening. I had requested you in comment section to provide a video on ac joint rehab. Thanks a lot. Your videos are masterpiece.. A one stop information a person can gather from years of research...!!Definitely going to follow this..
I just saw your video on all types of shoulder injuries. I've been noticing for months that my right shoulder seems different than my left one when I raise it upwards and I just noticed that I have mild piano keys. I immediately came to this video.
Very comprehensive outline of rehab exercises. Moving into strengthening now after immobilization/rest for 3 weeks and 1 week of range of motion. Wish I would have had this video 20 years ago when I had a level 3 separation of the AC joint in the opposite shoulder of the one that is injured now.
I kept having ligament pain in L shoulder while doing cable chest fly's & bench press since 2-3 weeks. Last week I had more pain while doing hammer curls with 7.5kg. 5kg I didn't have pain. My doc said it was an ac joint sprain n recommended some of the beginner lvl exercises for shoulder. I must say the classification of workouts given in this video are AMAZING for recovery in different stages! Starting with the mobility, then adding strength workouts n then pull n push days at gym!! Not even my physiotherapist recommended all these in so many stages! They made so some basic mobility exercises n asked me to get back to gym in 2nd week n work only with resistance band this week. Thank you sooo soooooo much for making this video! This REALLYY is helpful. Now I know how and what to do in a safe order.
My today X-rays have shown AC joint dislocation and my shoulder joint capsule dislocation and tennis elbow and last year i had ACL surgery and my football career ended up,dream of studying abroad is broken and left study and fear of future. I am very much nervous, pain, tension and anxiety, depression. Please pray for me to get rid of these difficulties.
I had grade 3 AC joint separation and ortho adviced me to go for surgery ( i would personally advice if one can go for surgery for grade 3 he should , however it does feel a big deal at first but it helps in two ways 1. To regain the natural contour of the shoulders and 2. Surgically operated shoulder will give more strength in future than non-operative one. Again, it is my opinion you may disagree with it.) I had surgery after 4 days of injury and he used the best technique in which less incisions were made i think it is called dog bone button technique. 1. Stitches removed after 2 weeks 2. Review at 3rd week, doctor told me to remove sling and start physiotherapy. 3. It has been 5th week and I have full range of motion with no pain at all. 4. Till 3 months I will give it time for recovery with no heavy weight lifting and after 3 months I'll get back to normal pushups, pull ups can also play sport but will wait till 6 months. But I would suggest one should play any contact sport after 6 months. ( I want to be extra careful in this to regain full strength and healing) In this surgical method two clips are inserted which are bio-compatibale and are permanent but if one wants to remove, he may get them removed after 2 years. In x-ray both shoulders seem alike but obviously two clips are visible in the operated one and yes initially there used to be a llate placed over clavicle that had to be removed and could be felt if touched but these two clips are are small and can be placed permanently. I too went through the same state of mind that probably you are going through, I watched almost all videos on yt and thought I should share my personal experience and opinion so that anyone might get comfort and hope. Wish you best of luck, it happens but what matters is how you go through it. Willpower is the only thing that is required as it is a time taking process. Stay composed and determined 🤝🙌
Thank you so much for posting this. 5 years ago I horribly separated my acromion doing a pull-up, it sounded and felt like taking a chicken wing and snapping it backward. I have almost no stability and strength in my left shoulder now, can't do a push up without utterly excruciating pain, sometimes can't do them at all do to instability. When I do rehab exercises it sometimes feels like the muscles that should be there simply aren't, like there's nothing to move the limb the way I want it to. Hopefully this helps me recover, since insurance denied me and MRI to see the exact issue
ER told me grade 3 Ortho 1 from Cleveland Clinic told me a grade 1 or 2. Ortho 2 from University Hospital told me between grade 2 and 3. it's been a week and a half now and my shoulder is feeling better but i can definitely push on my collar bone and see the piano key sign.

I’m two and a half months post Grade 3 separation from Jiu Jitsu. I have most of my range of motion back, I’m able to bench press and do shoulder workouts but my shoulder gives out before I do. I still can’t raise my arm to the sky, I can reach across but it’s painful to do so. I thought I would have healed a lot quicker by now and I’m worried how long it will take. I also have a bump that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Hi Exactly at 9:00 min of this video, when I do this exercise, i can move my arm only upto angle 45 and I can’t touch my wrist to the floor. Can you please help to understand this. Thanks
Went to the ER after a bicycle crash (landed on my shoulder) and I was initially told I had a muscle strain and that I should try to move my arm as much as possible. Well after a follow up with an orthopedic surgeon and more X-rays I actually have a high grade level 3 AC joint sprain. If I wasn’t given the wrong info I would’ve tried to immobilize from the start! Now I fear all the moving I did prior to the orthopedic follow up made it worse than it had to be /:

Excellent video with a ton of information and depth. Thank you so much! I have a question. I've had low-grade ac joint pain for about 3 years. It started with more intense pain which stopped me from working out for almost 2 months, then it became manageable but it never went away. I was misdiagnosed 3 times by 3 different physiotherapists... Now, after 3 years I found out that I have an ac joint problem. I can work out, but my shoulder feels uncomfortable/sore/painful at all times. Does this video apply to me too?
My MRI report shows the Grade 2 AC joint. I am just 19 and worry about future plans and just finished Collage and aiming to study abroad but this injury will spoil my plans. Please pray for me
thanks very much. my MRI shows degenerative vertebrae C4 5 and 6.. the pain is terrible. my whole left arm hurts. i even get cramps in my hand and thumb.
Thanks for this thorough video! I have one question! I had AC separation about 8 years ago but I was unaware of the injury at the time, i believe it occurred when incorrectly performing flat Dumbbell flys. I believe it to have been type 1 or type 2 AC joint separation. I visited a physio some years ago, was diagnosed as AC injury but never followed up with treatment as I moved over seas. Now all these years later I'm wondering if there's anything I can do about this, what would be reccomended as when I train my chest and shoulders with weights in the gym I can sometimes suffer from pain in and around the AC joint! I also notice my deltoid on that side is less developed, the tendon/ligament down that arm is tighter than the other and that the shoulder on that side tends to roll forward! I'd love to hear your thoughts and if this video is still applicable to me! Thanks 🙏🏼
Had 2/3 separation. Couldnt raise hand to even shake a hand or brush teeth. Did RICE, and electrophoresis 2 weeks daily. Decline only bench was tolerable with 1/3 of old weight (like 95 lbs) and very slow 30 sec lower and 30sec lift. Took about 3 months before back to normal
@gurunath7187 it was almost 25 yrs ago but have far surpassed weights from back then. Most recent injury last year was with partial thickness rotator cuff tear doing very heavy bench negatives with a spotter. Did prp and all the therapy exercises prescribed by the Dr. Stared very light...30% of what I got injured with and have spent the past 7 months incrementally increasing weights to about 80% of past weight. Expecting full return old weights in a couple more months. Tip: do all prescribed therapy exercises and take 3x longer than you think you need so your body has time to recover
I have a question… I had both my rotator cuffs repaired. I’m having cracking issues on top of my collar bone. Is it that I’m barely new on my Rehab? 7 weeks? I never had that on my other shoulder. I was thinking it was my AC Deltoid’s where the Acromion & Clavicle get separated. What can I do to Try to strengthen them???
what if the pain started after doing my workouts? these exercises are already being done during my workout. I'm not sure which one in particular caused the issue. If i had to guess, probably upright rows. I'll try stop doing them and continue with my workout.
Amazing video! Do you have recommendations on good warmups for shoulder/ac jojnt before a lift? I had surgery a year ago and i am back full strength but sometimes in the gym I can be a stiff (espec on bench/OHP)
Do you have any advice for returning to contact. I play rugby and this is my third time in 1 year doing my ac joint. All injuries have been from tackles to the shoulder. How do I strengthen it to prevent this? Great video btw
isnt the return to activity at 1 year a suboptimal measure for the success of an intervention? If surgery may help a person to come back to work 3 weeks earlier than conservative treament then I would recommend it to my patient. I sometimes feel like the resolution of studies is not good enough if you only have a time point for 6 weeks and 3 months... there is another ~ 6 weeks in between these 2 measures which makes a big difference. Yet I dont know whetere they gave a median or retorn to "x" for each group.
I believe i have had a type 1 sprain according to ultra sound and physio telling me yet there is a small bump on the unjured shoulder compared to the uninjured shoulder, is this scar tissue? this bump is more visible when i lift my shoulder up to my ear. My physio seems to think so and says it might be permanent.
The only range of motion I have pain and stiffness with is while reaching my back and shoulder clicking while internal rotation how can I fix it.moreover I've been doing these rehab excercises since 4weeks and have significant improvement can i return to lifting weights or boxing.
Hey, so i hurt mine about 2-3 months ago during a wrestling match because i fell on my side when he threw me. I played it off, hoping it would get better over time. it's the same pain... since it's been so long, should i skip the first part of immobilization? or should I still do it?
Thanks for the video! I’m about 3 weeks post grade 3/4 AC shoulder separation and currently in the strengthening stage. I was wanting to return to a PPL split (modified and much lower weight), should I warm up the shoulder first by band work?
@jonahtaylor2301 My ROM is 100%. Strength in shoulder exercises are back to 100% but dips and bench press are still lagging. I would say my strength is 70% in bench press . How are you coming along?
I have been fully healed for about a year, and have no pain in day to day life. The only movement that causes pain/discomfort is bench pressing, what can I do?
Mujhe hindi me smjha do koi 😢 mere shoulder ki haddi ese hi workout ki bjh se nikl gyi h india m yha doctor opration btw rhe h please ye hindi me smjha do hme🙏

Thanks man !
The only range of motion I have pain and stiffness with is while reaching my back and shoulder clicking while internal rotation how can I fix it.moreover I've been doing these rehab excercises since 4weeks and have significant improvement can i return to lifting weights or boxing.
When I shrug my traps I get a little pain around the AC joint. What could that mean? I’m scared of doctors and getting bad news.
What's the update felt same came out as grade 1 ac joint sprain. What's in your case?
Hey, so i hurt mine about 2-3 months ago during a wrestling match because i fell on my side when he threw me. I played it off, hoping it would get better over time. it's the same pain... since it's been so long, should i skip the first part of immobilization? or should I still do it?
Thanks for the video! I’m about 3 weeks post grade 3/4 AC shoulder separation and currently in the strengthening stage. I was wanting to return to a PPL split (modified and much lower weight), should I warm up the shoulder first by band work?
Update?
@jonahtaylor2301 My ROM is 100%. Strength in shoulder exercises are back to 100% but dips and bench press are still lagging. I would say my strength is 70% in bench press . How are you coming along?
I have been fully healed for about a year, and have no pain in day to day life.
The only movement that causes pain/discomfort is bench pressing, what can I do?
What grade was yours can you do pec dec flies?
Mine has the step :(
