Literally just got off of the phone with a lady that lives in Kodiak. Planning on going there in late May and she was telling me about the fog/wind/rain as it might relate to a flight to Katmai.
Yes - getting to Katmai is always a challenge, with early morning low fog over the Cook inlet - and the other bodies of water. Even during summertime, it's hit/miss, flying out of Anchorage sometimes.
What a gorgeous place! @2:35 that looks almost like a tailhook of a naval fighter jet :D Does it have any special use or is it just another tie down? Thank you for the video and greetins from Finland (same latitude but h12 time difference :)
Hi Arto - thanks for the question - it's for the same use as the other ropes - not tie down, but to maneuver the airplane, eg. spinning it around and to have a place to grab - gripping the horizontal stab at the back, does not always provide a good enough method, because you might not be able to reach the plane as you stand on land.
Magnificent video of a magnificent place! Would love to get there someday.

Very informative video, thank you. Does the ropes on the aircraft not pose a hazard during flight or on landing or take off?
