When I was a young teen every time I walked in the door with records either from a record swap or store, my dad would say, more records. 50 years later I walk in the door my wife now says, more records. I enjoy collecting music in all formats and I think I always will, its my hobby and my get away.
Nice work Tyler. I like this type of video from you. Being an accountant, maybe you should try a financial perspective of hobbying/collecting. Teach us how to budget better.
UA-cam recommended me this video. UA-cam knows about me more than myself! And I wholeheartedly needed this. In a world where people are judgemental to comic book collectors and action figure/statue collectors, its high time we reply them back, not in an aggressive way. I buy comics omnibus, and came across such judgemental eyes even at the age of 33. In the end, I would say, thank you for this video. You have subscriber count +1 today! 🤟
This is one of my favorite videos on UA-cam. Not even just in relation to hobby shaming, but this is phenomenal life advice. I’ve rewatched this many times. Thanks Tyler!
Thank you for this video. You did an amazing job. I especially like when you talked about if it becomes your significant other's ultimatum. Instead of saying something like, "That's when you need to choose between the hobby and the significant other." You went with the much better option of "Consider therapy."
In this day and age I think most ppl understand geek culture is a thing. I've finally been able to display all my collected editions, statues and action figures now that I have my own office and the few friends and family members that have come over have all basically been in Aw and say it's super cool. Maybe i'm lucky and my wife while doesn't care for the hobbies she supports me in it and is actually super happy for me that i know have my own batcave with all my stuff in it! Most importantly, is that a The Loyal Subject Gandalf behind you? Do you have other LoTR action figures? I'd like to pick some up, I have a bunch of Pops and just put up a dope framed Middle Earth Map so now I need some toys!
Great topic Tyler...the irony of it is for me personally this hobby n interest have been therapy for some dark times or depressed period in my life. Hey, we cant shut everyone's mouth up for doing what we do that we are passionate about with n we didnt end up not too bad growing up towards adult life today. Gread vid as always man, peace n love from Malaysia...keep doing what u do, you're the best! P/S: to me this is one hell of coolest hobby around to have actually!
Why would anybody shame anyone for enjoying a hobby and collecting what brings them some happiness in life. A hobby can get one through life’s challenges versus taking drugs or consuming alcohol. Aside from my family, my hobby of collecting music and music memorabilia brings me hours of listening and joy while going on 50 years of collecting.
It’s a very interesting subject, like you say, there’s literally no difference what your hobby or interests are, just like not everyone likes certain flavours or foods, they either enjoy it or they don’t. Reason would say that many many more people would enjoy comics more than football, but just watch football by habit because it’s supposedly socially acceptable or “cooler”. Very rich topic for discussion. Personally I have never felt shame, I look at it logical and use reason, and typically if someone shows disbelief that I read comics they typically end up feeling silly for viewing that way after we talk lol I would say utilize the Socratic Method to show someone they really have zero basis or real justified reason for viewing another hobby as inferior or childish. If that fails, go take some Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes (which you should anyway) and then the next time someone talks shit just choke them unconscious… they will be fine…… this is not advice from a professional 😁
What are your experiences with hobby shaming?
I like to read dark and violent books and I have a friend who constantly shames me about it.
@@studentministry3870 that’s very sweet of you calling him a friend.

This is the only one I have! But I’m definitely going to make the most of it and take a photo!
Great topic man. This hits home, thanks for the video.
This was an awesome video. Good job man!!
Thanks for the encouragement! I have thought about making the vid for 4 months and finally just said “do it!” Haha

Thank you mate! Totally agree on the hobby being something that uplifts. It has helped me more than I can express!
I would love do discuss this one on one with you. Livestream?
If we can work out a time then I would LOVE to do this!

This Tommy Talk was truly enlightening. I should consider a career as a collector/wife negotiator ASAP! There is clearly a market for my skillset.
Haha no doubt! Thanks for watching!
Where did you get that Usagi Yojimbo t-shirt? Thx!
It was a small print run on Stan Sakai official site! My favorite shirt by a mile!

Did you lose the dust jacket to your death of Spider-Man omnibus?
You know what - I never had it! One of my friends gave the book to me! And it didn’t have a DJ. I need to get one printed!
@@SuperSquadD once the full series is in omnibus format, you can get one that has volume 4 or 5 on the spine to match the others.
Good video
