I joined the PlaneShift community more than six years ago. Thank you for your fine and funny video. Just a few comments: 1) First characters for each account start in the Welcome Area (Tutorial). Since you had an old character for this account - still visible in the character creation screen - your new character went straight to the game. Every character can enter the Welcome Area at any time, though. 2) We are aware of the graphic glitches, but as you quite correctly stated, everything is done by volunteers, since the game is TOTALLY free, without any hidden costs. So things take time. And graphics are especially hard to make. 3) There are different kinds of rats, as you painfully realized. Looking at somebody / something will give you a description and a rough estimation of their relative strength. 4) PlaneShift is not the easiest of games, hence the Tutorial. "Patience is the key," as I tell all newbies. It takes time to learn what you can do. For example, you do not mention the different combat modes and moves in your combat critique. 5) Yes, we love to RP. Definitely one of the strengths of the game. Other notable points are the detailed setting, the close contact to the Developpers, and the enthusiasm of the community.

Hey! Thanks for watching! PlaneShift has certainly grown over the years and I'm really glad to see it being continuously worked on. Back then there was no tutorial or welcome area, so that and creating a new character on an existing account must explain why I was never brought there at start up. What I said at the end of the video are my true feelings. I had a blast back in the day, and still have a lot of fun whenever I play. I look forward to seeing where it goes, and what will happen with the alleged engine shift. Thanks again for watching!

If any old players ever remember this game fondly, I recommend they watch this, by 10 min in you will remember why you stopped playing this game. Thank you. Saved me from reinstalling it. :DDD Was pretty neat in 1998 though.

Never thought I'd see a review of this game in 2016! That's pretty much on point, good job!
It is indeed sad that the number of players online has been plummeting over the years, but on the other hand there are still new people coming in to join the fun even today. I created my first character about 12 years ago and I immediately had the chance to do a whole lot of role-play and that kept me addicted for quite some time... Only playing now and then nowadays, but I like to log back in and see the game slowly developing. Kudos to the developers for creating this on their free time, and I'm impatient to see what they'll be able to do with an Unreal engine!

Fun review, really liked it. Which version of PlaneShift is this review referred to? (You can check the version when you launch the game in the launcher screen)

Thanks for watching! Glad you liked! This review was based on version Azure Spirit 0.6.3, though I played it back during the Crystal Blue days! Have a lot of fond memories of those days :)

Seems like you were using outdated version. Current version is Azure Spirit 0.6.5, and it was that version two months backwards aswell.

I think at the time of recording (May/June) it was still 0.6.3. I remember in the past I would be prevented from entering the game if my version didn't match the current one, and I didn't get any messages like that when I was recording.

Hmm, might be. I just looked at the date when the video was released but if you recorded it back then it should be correct.
PS. are you planning to play more PS?

Great video review, and you bring up a lot of valid points. I was never a big fan of the combat system myself. I lean towards straight up RP. This game tries to be many things, but I think it is most satisfying when one treats it as a big sandbox for in-character RP. That said, it's always better when there are more players online. And I think I ran about a dozen different characters (not all at once!) at the height of my RP involvement. Many happy memories!

This straight up needs more likes. Really charming and well made review. Reminds me of old pbg or brutalmoose videos.

Loved the humor. I just got back into the game after a five or so year absence and the nostalgia is real. Your character was pretty creative and I had a blast watching this.

*SPOILER ALERT* - Because the CrystalSpace3D engine is getting obsolete in features, PlaneShift will be moving to Unreal. That will allow a little nicer looking effects easily. Whether that can speed up the future development of the world models ... we will see. The low number of volunteer developers is the main bottleneck.
By the way, you can return to the tutorial quarter by passing the gate near the Iron Tower in Hydlaa which appears to be closed outside (to the left of the road into the forest).

It'd have been great if OpenMW (or more like TES3MP) and Planeshift collaborated, rather than migrating to a closed source engine. The most redeeming quality of this game is how it is open source, it's a shame to lose that by moving to Unreal.

It was a bad game even back in 2005. Can't believe this game still exists.

Oh shit. You have to check out these glitches:

Haha those are some good glitches! I used to experience more when i played the game way back when, but i don't remember what they exactly were.

    "Yoon". Ynnwn is pronounced "Yoon".
Also if it's your first character, you get a long tutorial that nobody is going to read the text from.
Your description is brilliant, by the way. Aaaaaalmost makes me want to reinstall and find him. Almost. (Not really).

I liked your video. It's very funny. Thanks for sharing your review. Though I'm not a Dev, I'll see what I can do about looking for solutions to the difficulties you experienced. However, people discussing the rough patches they experience in the game can help improve it. The Devs do read and respond over on the game's forums at hydlaaplaza.com/PlaneShift/smf/ .

Thanks for watching, and glad you liked it! I used to be active on the forum. When I start playing again, I'll make a point to visit the forums too.
