As a nurse, I still say nothing compares to the training of our physicians.

I'm an NP and don't recall a course that taught how to "feel equal to physicians".

I am an ex-nurse. Dr. O'Heron is absolutely right when she describes nurses being excellent at their own Public Relations. While nursing organizations were advertising to the public that "Nurses are angels and heroes!", the actual expression you heard most often in the nursing field was "Nurses eat their young", and it's true. I am not the only nurse that felt their entire program was made up of "fluff" courses and busy-work. Dr. O'heron is also correct that many of the courses are political. I really felt like nursing was all about attempting to make nursing look more academic without the actual academics. I still feel it is all "smoke and mirrors". For example, initially, nurses by definition could not diagnose. So they designed "nursing diagnoses". An example of an actual "nursing diagnosis" is "Imbalanced Energy Field".
Nurses do not know what they do not know, and the public doesn't know any better, despite people dying, or having gravel super-glued into their face, or being given antibiotics by an NP for pre-eclampsia with all the neurological symptoms. The most dangerous nurses I ever worked with had no problem endangering our patients for the sake of time or money, but it was all done with a very likeable personality. That said, I suffered huge consequences from these same nurses when I naively took a stand for following regulation that protected patients, trusted these nurses to tell the truth, or trusted them in any way, shape of form. I firmly believe that nurses get away with so much because 1) they are self-governing, meaning only nurses hold nurses accountable (if they choose to), and RNs are attempting to oversee NPs: and 2) most medical facilities do not allow video recording so nurses are not held accountable by public videos nearly so often as the Police who are out in the public; and 3) the public does not know any better. Ignorance is bliss until someone dies.

Every profession has its role, but the problem is that the nursing union is seriously overstepping its scope of practice. They are now trying to push them into the laboratory as well with no clinical lab training. This movement is becoming a serious problem.

You speak with no respect for the Nursing Profession
I do see and understand your concern and from your perspective some aspects of what you speak about are real issues
We appreciate you as a Physician
    Lets find solutions
The solution is not to bash NP's but to offer help as to how NP's can be better prepared for their role and tay within scope of practice
Dont bash the nursing profession for advancing . This is goood not bad. NP's came about for valuable reasons. Doctors need help especially in rural undeserved areas and countries that just dont have the resources to even hold patient safety to the highest order.
You debate its patient safety you are worried about. I propose that largely you are worried about self preservation

This channel is a hoot! I am a nurse practitioner and always remind pts this during visits. Most state they can tell by my wonderful bedside manner. I've worked with some horrible nurse practitioners and some horrible MD's. I worked for 10 years as an RN in multiple fields so I felt pretty confident coming out as an NP to practice within my scope. Thankfully most states are doing away with CPA and allowing NP's to practice independently. My state, unfortunately, is not one of those yet. Let me say something that never comes up in these conversations. I have been an NP for almost 5 years now, I have had 5 physician collaborators. I have never met, nor spoken to any of them. They do not go over or check anything we do, they just want to be paid for "collaborating". It's all about the money with the AMA. Keep up the good work LOL!!

This is disgusting! Patients are at risk with doctors too. I can share stories of mismanagement with several of my family members and doctors. I have a wonderful provider who is a nurse practitioner! She is brilliant.

The majority of NP cases I've inherited as a physician has been mismanaged to a degree that is shocking and terriflying. If the general public could see this, they would be horrified. I'm sure these NP's are nice and caring people, but the training is abysmal. When physicians speak up we are accused of being territorial. The optics don't look good.

Scope creep is dangerous and the manipulation of the public is asinine. There is no equivalence between physicians and PAs or NPs.

This is so sad the lengths that other healthcare professionals will go to out other healthcare professionals down. This video focuses on downing NPs but let’s not act like Doctors haven’t made grave mistakes!!!! This is ALL about Doctors scared of being replaced and not wanting to share the spotlight!! NPs are not RNs. There are very successful NPs with their own practices and are doing really well!!! NPs want their independence because they’ve seen what mistakes doctors have made with patients. WATCHERS, PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF THESE MKNDS IF VIDEOS. THERES A LOT OF MISCOMMUNICATION HERE AND FALSE INFORMATION!!! Think about how nurses catch many mistakes that doctors make! There are many doctors who will say nurses Saved their careers!!! Watch positive and meaningful content!!! There’s a bigger/hidden agenda here!!!! Doctors have went to the extreme to get NPs removed from their professions by taking hospitals and facilities to court where these doctors lost in court and now they spread this false information ! Just listen to what she’s saying, “it’s all if them” , “there’s no competition , it’s all patient care”, she totally contradicts herself! That’s why NPs are still allowed to practice! Notice, you don’t hear too many NPs attacking doctors, but yet and still, they will attack NPs. Do your homework and look at who killed more patients; doctors or NPs??? Someone should report the both of these women!!!!

And doctors make more than NPs and they typically give the majority of the patients to NPs while they see wayyy less patients.
THIS IS WHAT HEALTHCARE SHOULD LOOK LIKE FOR PATIENTS:
    ua-cam.com/video/7NhPyJIx2WY/v-deo.htmlsi=tPx-jEBUHWEP9_cz
NPs are wayyy more skilled and educated than what this video is stating!!!
    AGAIN, DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!
She can’t even pronounce CRNA correctly!?!
As a patient, I would NOT want any healthcare provider who attacks their coworkers to treat me!!!
This comes across as very ignorant and unprofessional!!!
    ua-cam.com/video/2MMXmXK1lTg/v-deo.htmlsi=E16v_2V72OmWV6ge
    BUT NURSES WANT TO BE CALLED PHYSICIANS: see below;

BUT NPS ARE NOT GIVEN THE CHANCE TO IMPROVE THEIR SKILLS:

WOWWW, NPs ACTUALLY HAVE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ILLNESSES AND DISEASE PROCESSES THAT PATIENTS FACE!?! See below:

THIS IS WHAT MOST HEALTHCARE WORKERS FACE: SEE BELOW

But NPs DONT HAVE ENOUGH KNOWLEDGE: see below

WOWWW, BUT EVERY DOCTOR PROVIDES THE SAFEST PATIENT CARE BECAUSE THEY HAVE SUCH EXTENSIVE AND LONGER TRAINING: see below
    ua-cam.com/users/live3g4fsm8ONPU?si=Tppipm6cESi1U5oK
NPs are cost effective and provide amazing healthcare to patients, that should be celebrated, not tolerated or berated.
AND, INSTEAD OF MAKING YOUR LIFES WORK HUNTING AND ATTACKING NPs, HOW ABOUT JOINING THE FIGHT FOR ISSUES LIKE THIS: see below:
    ua-cam.com/video/pH_cFofXHQA/v-deo.htmlsi=6aK0K6_7y8rVYufY
AT THE END IF THE DAY, I THINK THESE LADIES NEEDED A LESSON IN BEING EDUCATED ON SPREADING FALSE NARRATIVES!!! YOU DONT SEE NPs ATTACKING DOCTORS. BUT THEY COULD IF THEY REALLY WANTED TOO BECAUSE THERES TONS IF INFORMATION INCLUDING IN THE PUBLIC HEALTH RECORDS OF DOCTORS KILLING PATIENTS-AND REMOVING BODY OARTS THAT WASN’T SUPPOSED TO BE REMOVED SURGICALLY AND LEAVING SPONGES IN PATIENTS FOUND AFTER A COMPLETED SURGERY. NPs UNDERSTAND ITS NOT ABOUT THAT, ITS ABOUT SAFE PATIENT CARE!!!

An NP' s role cannot just be educating, even Nurses educate. There has to be a difference between Nurses and Nurse Practitioners. I dont think you understand what Nurses do here in the US. Nurses are not glorified waitresses.
    Patient safety is priority
    Nurse Practitioners are not Doctors
Doctors are not nurses or nurse Practitioners
You are still not seeing the whole picture. You are correct in many aspects but also incorrect

The education system - both medical schools, PA program, NP programs, can be blamed for a lot of this. They accept people who have no business touching patients, are under qualified without a science/healthcare background, or are a product of diversity and equity agendas.

All about privilege under the name protecting patients. Physicians just want to hire cheap np to do their work and make money for them. As long as you under the physician’s control you will be fine. In reality, many medic practice do not need many years training and fellowship. Md, if you are honesty, you should know many years trading are wasteful.

@@cchenll009 Haha so why don't we just get rid of medical schools all together? Why have all the physicians go through such a rigorous training? Just have everyone in population to be treated by a nurse. Next time you need surgery please go ask for a Nurse to do your operation.

  • @tomreilly515

Sour grapes. The ‘encroachment’ of medical practice by mid-level providers demonstrates the validity of the aphorism that nature hates a vacuum. To which, I would add patients/clients go where they are treated best. Allow me to explain. Physicians, as demonstrated by medicine’s failures to measure up during the COVID epidemic, refuse to fulfill their responsibilities to improving the lives of their patients. How else can you explain the multitude of behavioral medical problems. Two, medical errors represent the second leading cause of death, likely because physicians and their accountants have reduced medical visits to unsafe levels. Let’s see what pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, AI software, among other innovations can achieve. I would welcome the effort.
