    Possible correction: the LAN/network port speeds are typically measured in gigabits, not gigabytes. i.e. "2.5 gigabytes per second" should be "2.5 gigabits".

    Gotta ask, but why would a firmware update reduce LAN speeds exactly? Why would they do that?

      @TheInspectAspect  2 місяці тому

      Great question! Firmware updates are typically released to improve the performance, security, and stability of a device. However, there are a few reasons why a firmware update might inadvertently reduce LAN speeds:
      Bug Fixes and Security Patches: Sometimes, updates include bug fixes and security patches that might change how data is processed, which can unintentionally affect performance. For example, certain security measures might add extra processing steps to ensure data integrity, slightly reducing speed.
      Compatibility Issues: New firmware might not always be fully optimized for all existing hardware configurations. This can lead to temporary performance drops until further updates or patches are released to address these issues.
      Feature Changes or Additions: Updates might introduce new features or changes that, while beneficial overall, can alter how resources are allocated. This can sometimes lead to decreased performance in specific areas like LAN speeds.
      Default Settings Changes: After a firmware update, the device might reset some settings to their default values. If the default settings are not optimized for your particular setup, it can result in reduced performance. Checking and reconfiguring settings post-update can help mitigate this.
      Manufacturers typically release subsequent updates to fix any performance issues caused by previous updates. If you're experiencing reduced LAN speeds after a firmware update, checking for newer firmware or contacting TP-Link support for advice can be helpful.
      Thanks for bringing up this important topic and for watching 'The Inspect Aspect.

    Exactly how does it protect IOT devices. Seems that all of the routers mentioned on UA-cam only focus on their speed and skip Security. Security is the #1 Priority right now and not it's speed.

      Thank you for your excellent point regarding the importance of security, especially for IoT devices. You're absolutely right; while speed and range are critical for a good user experience, security is paramount, especially in today's connected world where IoT devices are increasingly prevalent in our homes.
      The TP-Link Archer BE550 enhances IoT device security through several key features. Firstly, it supports the latest encryption standards, including WPA3, which provides a higher level of security than its predecessors. Secondly, it includes TP-Link's HomeCare, which offers antivirus protection, parental controls, and QoS (Quality of Service) to prioritize security for your devices.
      the router is designed to segment your network, allowing IoT devices to operate on a separate network from your primary devices, reducing the risk if one of the IoT devices is compromised. This segmentation, often referred to as 'Guest Network' or 'IoT Network,' helps in minimizing the attack surface accessible to potential hackers.
      I agree that the focus on security should be more prominent in discussions about routers, especially given the increasing sophistication of cyber threats. I'll make sure to emphasize security aspects more in future reviews. Thanks again for your comment
