- A Maine Road semi-final, which featured a Leeds team in their 6th FA Cup semi within 9 years. At the heart of their defence was a 38-year-old Jack Charlton, now in his 21st year at Elland Road. But could Wolves, with an attack led by Derek Dougan and John Richards, knock out the defending champs? Tony Gubba is your commentator.

1964/65 Leeds finished runners up to Man U only on goal difference. First season back in Div 1. 1965/66 runners up again to Liverpool. 1966/67 finished fourth in the league. 1967/68 Finished fourth. 1968/69 Champions Of England. 1969/70 runners up to Everton. 1970/71 runners up to Arsenal. 1971/72 runners up to Clough's Derby. 1972/73 finished 3rd. 1973/74 Champions Of England played some of the best football this Country's ever seen before and since love.
If Billy Bremner and Derek Dougan were to come back and see the Clowns that play now and the ridiculous wages they get paid they'd either laugh or burst into tears. Football is ruined as we knew it!
i'm argentinianand these are my two favourite english football teams....
What home grown talent on show on both sides with names you could pronounce!
Went to the game and was so excited at the end to find out we were playing lowly Sunderland in the final. We all know how that went :(
A warning to never underestimate the underdog, they can bite hard...
richards and dougan one of best strike partners ever
Yeh some good double acts in them days Jones & Clarke, Keegan & Toshack, Bell & Lee etc.
2.44 the Wolves keeper taking a free kick from almost under his net. You wouldn't see that these days and Bremner kicking the ball in anger at the HT whistle. When football was football and not some hyped up circus.
The game has been ruined , I wish I was older tbh , better players cheap admission, great rock bands ditto....
I was there in the North Stand and it was my first big away day. Leeds certainly did not make all the running. I wouldn't say we outplayed Leeds, but it was certainly a more even encounter than the commenatry suggests. RIP Frank Munro.
I was 7 years old with my father and older brother in the stand to the left behind the goals sitting down, upper right hand side looking from the pitch. Cannot remember the name of the stand. Remember watching Bremner's goal from the far side. I don't recall Richards hitting the post but I do remember Dougan missing with that header.
I remember my father and brother being really angry about the coverage on Match of the Day saying Leeds made all the running. Wolves had lots of attacks and felt the referee favoured them throughout. The game was much more even than shown in these highlights.
Unlucky Wolves. 2 fantastic teams with real fans...
not the original commentary - Wolves so unlucky that day
I was there ! SUPER WOLVES were very unlucky but thats' football .
i agree this is not how i remember this game i was on the edge of my seat as Wolves had much the better of Leeds in this one(Leeds fan)
How the hell Leeds never won more trophies is a mystery?
they won so many in 60s and early 70s then declined
Because of Celtic Chelsea Liverpool Sunderland Derby County
@A A They became hated when the bribes were uncovered. The only time they was cheated was in the European Cup Final
@@melvyndolby8625 what bribes were they ? Name them but I bet you can't because they weren't any.
@@mick6370 i cant remember any of the names, but certain players said they had been approached. I read it in a few books but its so long ago i cant remember the names. Not 100% but i think one played for Wolves
the best team to ever grace football. Leeds United.
Lofty Parkes!!! loved him with the Vancouver Whitecaps!!!
Great Upload - Exactly as i remembered it - Leeds were always the most potent force in this game - Wolves didn't make a chance until they went a goal down
was there- The Doog by a coat of frickin' paint!!
RIP. King Billy. .his hair is red and fuzzy and his body black and blue..
Great tackle Kenny , Yorath was always doing that to others, didnt he end a German Internationals career ?
He did but it wasnt blatant . You cant say it was on purpose , no professional wants to end a fellas career .
He was Swedish and it didn't end his career either.
How does Richards shot hit the inside of the post and bounce outwards. 99 times out of a 100 that's a goal.
Thats when you know it isnt your day .
because he missed thats why
Jack Charlton’s final appearance for Leeds?
King Billy
I did love watching Wolves , Doogan,Richards , Willie Carr , David Wagstaff brilliant players , Leeds had a few too , but not so well loved !
Daley, Parkin, Hibbet!! Mike Bailey!! Geoff Palmer!! they are a hoot to watch even on the YT vids that are available
That was 1972.
David Cummings 1972/73 FA Cup SF
@@1061andy, for sure as Arsenal lost to Sunderland 2:1
lol @ 1972.
Why?
The advantage, I suppose, of adding the commentary 35 years later, as has been done here, while pretending it is live. Talk about creative editing! I remember this game very well, and it was NOT the way it is presented in this video. Far from dominating the game, Leeds were completely outplayed by Wolves for most of the match, and almost everyone at the time agreed that the better team had lost. Still, it didn't do Leeds any good in the end, as Sunderland were waiting for them in the Final...
I was there that day, Derby County became champion although they were already on holiday. Leeds "fans" demolished half the Southbank in their anger. Remember it very well.
nah. Leeds were superior in every way. what a team.
No such year as 1973 😖😖😖
Leeds player rolling around honestly what a mug.
