I agree, I think really they decided to have everything at Wembley because of the tragedy that happened at that stadium, it was at the back of their minds, but of course they needed to claw back the money Wembley cost to rebuild too. A thing I really miss is a BIG away support at league matches, it hardly happens now that season tickets are so essential to buy to ensure you can see any match. But yes, if they had Anfield or St. James' Park or Villa equally split from both sides again, it would be magnificent and I suspect nearly all grounds are pretty safe with capacity crowds in them now ..... a few perhaps still are not ....
Brilliant footage, back in the days when the FA Cup really meant the world to the fans. The first I remember watching was Chelsea v Leeds in 1970. I’m a season ticket holder at MCFC for nearly 50 years. Watching 2 of my all time heroes Dennis Tueart and Dave Watson, I remember them knocking out my beloved team in round 5, they both were immense in the final, both were brilliant players for City and Sunderland and both would get in this current team under Pep. Sunderland magnificent in this 1973 Cup run .
Vic Halom was the manager of Rochdale FC in 1984 - I left school at 15 to be an apprentice footballer with the 4th division club. He was a good manager and still tough to play against in 5-a-side games. Vic was built for the number 9 shirt and had a great touch, as well as power. I think he is one of the last few from this team still living. Great game to watch! 1973 final was even better.
Actually most of the sunderland side are still living, including the unused sub david young, only Billy huges and Ian porterfield have passed away rip, but @Wafarer4Christ you are correct tueart and Watson were immense players, and Dave Watson is still the most capped England player never to have been selected in an England squad for a world Cup finals, he played all the qualifiers to get them there in especially in 82 where he was outstanding, only for incoming greenwood to omit him, had cloughie got the job Watson would have been one of the first names in his squad
Still a great game to watch, even after 50 years. The FA Cup at its peak. semi finals on neutral club grounds, real atmosphere with the 3pm kick off times, that allowed fans to get home handy, and celebrate or commiserate. And what a great referee David Smith was in the late 60s early 70s. I saw him referee the 1968 FA Cup Semi final Everton v Leeds, when the latter were looking for free kicks late in the game, trailing 1-0 to an understrength Everton team. People like Jack Charlton were camped out in Everton's penalty area. David Smith blew the final whistle playing the normal one or two minutes extra. I still recall seeing Don Revie, from my seat in the stands, protest to the Ref that the game had ended. Alan Ball. who was a great player for Everton, but just seemed out of place in this Arsenal team
Halom, Hughes’s and tuart ran them daft . looking back that cup run got me hooked . But the amount of heart acre Ive had since I am wondering if it would have been better if we had been beat . mind saying that I will be there on Saturday . ha way the lads
Yeah and I remember as a child a few years later the 77 Jimmy Hill cheating Coventry heartache along with 85, 92, 2015, a few joyous moments and heartaches in playoffs and relegations and promotions but that is life for a sunderland fan lol
Still love watching these games, makes wonder what has happened to the lads ,others, from coach n2,,from the nook and shields branch ,for bless the lot of them,oh happy days.philip Cheshire, cheesy.😊 ,
Always support the underdog in the FA Cup, unless it's my team that's favourite of course. Fantastic to see Sunderland stuff Arsenal before beating The Scum in the legendary 1973 FA Cup final 👍
Arsenal should off really done them looking back we were going for double again. 2nd division Sunderland good memories I was 6 years old at time wow packed out Hillsborough
@claymor8241 sure, once in a blue moon, still, it's good for the competition, not so good now with the multi million dollar clubs, like a business now.
I liked Bob Wilson he dived at opposing forwards feet. Did he take one for the team? Them days or did they just limp off? Swiss roll overs out of date.
Was there as a neutral. It was like a home game for Sunderland. The noise their fans made was the best I’ve heard.
It was always better when the semi-finals were held at club football grounds. Wembley should be the final, that’s all!
Exactly! Always thought that myself.
Totally agree, it took the magic away when you could get to Wembley without reaching the final.

Too right. It’s one reasons the fa cup has lost its magic. Football is not what it was sadly
This is actually an excellent interview. The interviewer is informed, relaxed and enthusiastic.
What a manager we had Bob Stoke
Cutting onions, me. Marvellous.
Stokoe!!! Stokoe!!
Plain coloured shirts with the club badge, no squad number, just 1 to 11.
No names on the back or extra badges on the sleeves. Memories.

Days of standing in the terraces too, far better atmosphere

My Gran and Dad were at that game. Haven't watched it in years--forgot how we ran them ragged
wow great upload!

Memories flooding back
I was behind that goal
First time I have seen this game and the goals. I wished I had been there, but was not able to go...
Hey football i remember that when it was good.
No surrounding ref on bookings either.

Ball should have had a penalty, he was being held.
@@JohnJohn-zn8ib. Would have only been a consolation, they got outplayed.

What a save from wilson
I was there😀
Pulling shirts is the worst kind of foul says Brian Moore. He’d hate today’s game.
I liked Bob Wilson he dived at opposing forwards feet. Did he take one for the team? Them days or did they just limp off? Swiss roll overs out of date.
both teams with a change kit ,,,,,,,, ?
Vic halom, vic halom, vic halom, LA LA LA LA.
Peter Storey was a dirty get.
He was later done for living off immoral earnings, too.
@@Spectrescup immoral...ha. like every todays players wages.
Most of those players will have been in their 20s but thry look like they're at retirement age
I always thought Trevor Brooking in his early twenties looked 40+
