Well done!!!! I don't remember this Tonka toy as a kid? This brought back memories as I worked on the ramp, in Vancouver, when I was in my early 20's, running that type of equipment, fun job!
Nice restoration. I had many Tonkas growing up. You've shown some that I never knew they made and I appreciate that. Ever get the urge to go a little overboard with a project and add a lot of details, (pin striping, engine details and such)? Just something nice to contrast with the one color paint scheme.
I so want that toy! 😃 I really want to drive one of those tractors around an airport some day. It looks _so_ fun... The paint colour is very close to KLM planes. (I don't know about their ground equipment.)
Have you thought about contacting Tonka to create an online museum of some of their beautiful old toys, along with restoration videos? They could get some of the best restorers to provide the videos. Who knows, maybe Tonka could provide any old toys they have stored to be done as well. Could be a good draw for them as there is obviously interest. 🤔
Cool Idea, the Tonka brand was just purchased by Basic Fun! Toys. I just saw one of their commercials with Shaquille O'neal, so surely they can afford me! lol
My dads got two of these sets but they are both missing the front grill thing and the seat as well as the steering wheel. Where do you get replacement parts
This was tbe color of ground equipment for North Central Airlines, the local airline for Tonka's hometown and most of the upper Midwest. Wonder if they made it as a promotional set?
WD-40 will temporarily soften and slightly expand rubber for those times when a heat gun may damage. It dissipates and is easy to clean with the cleaners you use.
I am new to blasting. I am using an Aluminum Oxide and I generate SO MUCH dust it blinds me. I have a vacuum system taking out much of it. What is your recommendation for blasting materials for thin metals and the best way to keep the dust down? Thanks in advance
If it's a new batch of blast media it's going to be really dusty right out of the box, whenever I change out my blast media I'll run my gun full blast for about a half hour to let all of the media cycle through and give my dust collection system a change to clean out all of the dust.
Part 1 was so good Tim I can't wait for Part 2. Question: I'm sure there's a reason you return most of these vintage toys usually to their original colors. If selling the toys is it more desirable for collectors to have them in their original colors? Just wondering.💖👍🍻✌
I've watched quite a few of your videos and I only recently thought. What do you do with the finished project? Do you keep them as part of a collection? Do you sell them on to keep the channel going? Do you donate them to charity? I'm just curious as you have done quite a lot of these videos.
Tim, another great job, thanks for share. Can I ask you something? Trought the time I've been seeying you using diferent types of powder coating gun. Could you recomend a good one? Or all of them are the same thing? In other words, wich one could be more durable in your opinion? Thanks and cheers, Igor
Thanks! I've definitely been upgrading as I go along. I started with a $60 special from Harbor Freight, then upgraded to a dual power from Eastwood, now I am using a Redline EZ50, which in my opinion is the best at home system that you can buy. amzn.to/2UNt9og
I tried to buy one from Eastwood and another from Harbor Freight but unfortunetely they don't dispatch worldwide. Yesterday I bough one from China (against my will). I will try to buy one like yours to prove it when they are available on amazon (at this moment they are out of stock). One more time, thanks for your atention.
Might I recommend trying to restore some tools instead of Tonka toys all of the time? The toys always turn out great, but it'd be cool to see other stuff from you than just Tonka toys 24/7.
Great restoration. Now to go and look up other Tonka toys from the '60s!!!
Thanks for watching! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I love seeing the variety of different things Tonka made! You made these rusty toys into a thing of beauty! Reminds me of flying during my childhood!
Thank you! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

We need to hear “are you ready kids” right before yeah.
lol maybe so
Are the majority of your restorations Tonka? Just curious. I really like them especially the cement mixer that you did! Way to go!👍😉
probably 80 percent are tonka
Very cool, what do you blast with?
80-grit aluminum oxide
That would be awesome to see that getting turn onto a rc 😂

the people who worked at the airport doing or did that job would most likely want it for the kids or grandkids
would have been a really cool thing to have
Oh Lord. I'm as old as that set. lol

Was there ever a plane that went along with the set i know it would have to be pretty big for scale
Tonka made a couple of planes in the late 70's, nothing to go with this set though
