Oh, _come_ now. *Please* cut “Godzilla 1998” a _BREAK,_ would you? Not literally every single person on the planet hates it _or_ thinks it’s ‘terrible,’ and I’m one of them (😉).
They made a director's cut where they swapped out the alien angle with time travel, but it only raised different issues and while some new scenes did flesh things out a bit more, it didn't help the story. And yet it's not the worst one in the franchise.
It doesn't deserve to be on this list. The characters are poor, the female lead is terrible and the plot dumb, but the film is still quite fun with some good action sequences.
For me it was the opposite. The 1998 Godzilla movie was bad enough to make me disinterested in Godzilla movies as a whole for a very long time. Only very recently i saw some, including the 1954, 2016 and the American 2014 movies and understood that Godzilla franchise is not as bad. All the 1998 Godzilla has are some decent special effects and that's abou itt IIRC (that was 1/4 century ago). It wasn't even so bad to be good. I agree however that it doesn't need to be on this list. There are many worse "SF" films. On the other hand I liked that Travolta movie - in the sense "sit is so bad to be good", it was hilarious to watch. In comparison 1998 Godzilla was just very mediocre.
At least “Plan 9…” makes for a fun bad movie night. Ed Wood may have lacked actual skill in the craft, but you can’t deny he had heart and threw himself into each piece of crap he made
Sure, many terrible movies have "cult status". Even this video included Ed Wood's opus magnum - Plan 9. Ed Wood himself has "cult status" despite never making a single good movie in his life according to some. Doesn't mean those movies or directors aren't very bad. We all went as kids to see bad movies multiple times. I went twice to see Mortal Kombat 1, though, arguably, it had redeeming qualities. Kids in general don't have experience or knowledge to judge a movie quality.
I really liked the premises of Jupiter ascending. That an alien civilization ”plants” and ”harvests” planets with lifeforms they’ve created. It was kind of cool to see them walking around vast empty cities. Then they tried and failed to make a good story out of it.
Yeah. I thought it was great eye candy, and the over-the-top acting reminded me of the OG Flash Gordon series. It's something that I'll have on the TV while I'm doing something else.
Having loved the Alien franchise up to pts three or four, I was paralysed at Prometheus. Those geeks go out on an alien planet without protective gear got me. Sure, the computer said the atmosphere for good for humans, but what about the germs the astronauts let loose on the planet?
Oh, my God! My brother gave me the 1998 Godzilla movie *twice* for Christmas! First on VHS in 1998 (traded it for the Sailor Moon Doom Tree series) and again in 2005 on DVD (traded this for a different DVD). 🤮
Maybe next year he'll get you a puppy for Christmas! Just what I friggin needed. I'm 66 and my sister still buys me clothes, anyone want a red & yellow V-neck sweater?
I liked Jupiter Ascending for what it could have been. But Jupiter keep getting in trouble and needed to get bailed out got old by the third time, and there were like six times.
After Earth is one of my cult films. I just like it. Many scenes with lush nature, some philosophy and a bit of fast paced action. I felt it even was exciting and I really rooted for the boy to accomplish his mission. I guess the people just hated that Will Smith's son played the main character.
Yes. Most critics are hacks cranking out copy on time. Even the influential movie critic Pauline Kael was known to write rave reviews of movies she fell asleep to. And according to her, rarely watched the same movie twice.
The day after tomorrow and 2012 deserve to be considered for this list?! Seriously? How they gave the audience everything we'd want in an epic disaster movie. Pfft lame call
I actually really enjoyed Chaos Walking, the idea behind the film is good, the execution might not have been the best but I don't think it deserve to be in "WORST Sci-Fi Movies" category
I dunno, I wanted to like it, but I couldn't sit through it. The premise was great, but watching it was torture... Like going to see Star Wars and seeing Luke Skywalker complain about fixing moisture evaporators to Uncle Owen for two hours.
Roger Ebert's review of the 1998 Godzilla version said that they showed it as the closing movie at the Cannes festival for the same reason they put the horses at the end of a parade!
And I don’t think he appreciated Emmerich and Devlin naming the mayor and his assistant after him and Siskel; which seems even nastier since Gene was actually dying and would pass the next year
I fell asleep during "Star Trek V." Since that's the one Roddenberry apparently said you can skip, I never went back and just moved on to "The Undiscovered Country."
"Each of us hides a secret pain. Share yours with me brother". My space hemorrhoids are just killing me, I caught my thumb in the torpedo launcher and Ferengi ale gives me gas. Help me brother!
"Chaos Walking" was meant to be a start to a trilogy but the YA novel to movie genre was dying by the time it made it to screen. It's hard enough to follow the story in the books but it doesn't translate to screen, especially with studio interferance.

Hey, Moonfall, Terminator Genesis, and Godzilla were not the worst movies ever. Not great? Yes. Worst ever? That’s a bit harsh. Doesn’t Batman and Robin count as a Sci Fi movie? Mortal Kombat Armageddon? Last Airbender? Dragonball? Catwoman? Jaws the revenge?
You forgot "Star Crash"! Even at an age of 14 years I realized that this movie is BS and that I got screwed when I paid to watch it in the cinema. I was too giddy, after "Star Wars" completetly changed my understanding of sci-fi movies, to notice that "Star Crash" just tried to surf in the wake of "Star Wars" until it was too late. Real bad acting, bad modelling, bad stop-motion, ... it takes less time to say what's good about this movie: Nothing! Funny enough, it only took the first large spaceship to make it's flyby in front of the camera, when I knew this movie is trash: Seeing the cockpit of the "Space 1999" Eagle Transporter from the AIRFIX model glued prominently to the hull.
STAR TREK V got some major things wrong, but it was still better than the JJ Abrams trilogy. Unfair to call AFTER EARTH a 'Smith Family Outing'; there were roles that could have been taken by Jada P and Willow. Casting Jaden made a lot of sense: It was quicker that trying to find an unrelated young actor who looked enough like Will Smith (who'd have the ears?) What about INTERSTELLAR? Silly premise relying on pretty incredible coincidences, weak characters, scientifically inept even in the non-astronomical stuff (how heavy is a wave as high as a mountain going to be, and what will be left if it lands on you?), and the heroic achievement is based on appalling morality - better to find Planet B that save Planet A (and most of its population)
I went with my cousin to watch Battlefield Earth on a sneak peak pass. After the end credits began to roll, we, the audience cheered loudly the experimental torture was over and we could leave.
The second pacific rim movie (oh lord, they made TWO?!) was so hilariously bad that I doubt anyone has seen it unless they also had massive insomnia at 3am staying at some random hotel in the middle of nowhere with only four channels. Surely you can do something better than this. I have OCD and so does my wife who likes to point out things much like what you're doing. It's aggravating and doesn't help anyone. Have a good day.
Battlefield Earth got a bad rap, people were poised to judge it as bad before they even saw it, it was pretty good science fiction. One critic of fame haughtily laughed and asked "When has an alien ever acted like that? Ha-ha". I was left with the question how does an alien act? 🤔 I then realized it was prejudice I was dealing with. (I did have a problem with primitive humans mastering Jump Jets so quickly but it was fiction.) 🤷♂
Jupiter Ascending is alot to take in at first but I really got into it as a B-movie sc fi that reminded of Flash Gordon. After Earth, is so underrated, It probably would have done better during the days of ID4 and Men in Black films.
I'll be honest.. I was a little kid when I saw that Godzilla movie and it was bangin... I didn't knew the origin and stuff... For me it's just a giant dinosaur... But later when I saw the real Godzilla and stuff.. knowing that.. yes that one sucked... But for a geek kid... That was a cool movie
I think this list is missing some movies such as The Marvels or Thor: Love and Thunder. I say this because Marvel is one of the bigest studios there are and had some amazing movies, but both Thor 4 and The Marvels are pure garbage. You can't even say there was good acting or visuals or anything
I agree with Battlefield Earth, Future World, After Earth, Mac and Me, Ballistic, Plan 9 From Outer Space, Pluto Nash, and Piranha II: The Spawning, as they are the worst. But Chaos Walking, Godzilla 1998, Terminator Genisys, Jupiter Ascending, Moonfall, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, and Planet of the Apes 2001 are more like mediocre or lame or meh but not the wrost since there are many bad and very aweful sci fi films than them that you didn't mention like: 2177: The San Francisco Love Hacker Crimes Birdemic 3: Sea Eagle Dune World Extraction Point Monster: The Prehistoric Project Hornet 2018 Konga TNT Virus Shark. And many others.
I am sorry but Godzilla should not be on this list despite Inspector Gadget ( I am referencing Matthew Broderick's last good movie ) turning in an awful performance. It made chihuahuas popular in the US who were only known as the Taco Bell dogs until Taco Bell made an ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT ad campaign for this movie. Who does not remember "I think I need a bigger box"?
Tom holland has the curse of being Spider-Man and not being Tom holland. Bro can probably do a movie or show he has passion for but no one will watch it because he’s not Spider-Man.
Remember the scene where the ice 'chased' the characters, that were all unlikeable anyway? In my personal opinion it's even the worst film by Emmerich.
@@patrick-aka-patski Yes! I suppose he did even worse with 2 0 1 2... but I did not watch this insanity in full length. One of my favorite scenes in DAY is when a group of hiking New Yorkers lead by police officers are being asked where they are heading?? And they reply: "We are going south". Okayyy... THAT will save them! 200-300 miles down the snowy way it will get warmer. Bingo.
After reading the comments I see I'm not the only one who liked Godzilla :) Also, I don't think Planet of the Apes was top 10 worst. I'm sure there are some 'drive-in' movies out there that no one remembers that are much worse.
Chaos walking was actually a good movie like others are saying here. Being released at the height of covid and the rumors about Daisy being difficult to work with played a part
Now, Battlefield Earth was a pain in the neck, but the question lies on this: Will John Travolta give himself another chance to be in the sci-fi genre?
Sci fi movies have complications in making films especially big budget movies. Mac and Me, Delgo, Independence Day 2, Supernova even Ghosts of Mars are really bad movies to rewatch even they tried to make it good.
Let’s get honest for a moment!!! If any apocalypse happens today having to do with science; Mr.NDT would likely by a good percentage predict wrong concerning the science based event. He is speaking on moonfall but how greatly did he predict Covid 19 a few years ago 👨🏾💼🧋
Y'all think 2012 or the day after tomorrow deserves to be on this list? I'm convinced you all don't watch movies or listen to music with some of the crap you all produce.
8. Dark Fate was MUCH BETTER than Salvation and Genisys, but by that point, the damage was already done. The Terminator franchise had fallen out of favor and as a result, Dark Fate bombed at the box office. Something similar ALSO happened to Megaman X8 AND Megaman X: Command Mission, which also had poor sales due to a previous entry boming, in this case, Megaman X7. H.M.3: If there's a silver lining, its that James Cameron legitimately learned from this, and that he has since upped his game and become one of the best directors in Hollywood today.

I then realized it was prejudice I was dealing with. (I did have a problem with primitive humans mastering Jump Jets so quickly but it was fiction.) 🤷♂
Jupiter Ascending is alot to take in at first but I really got into it as a B-movie sc fi that reminded of Flash Gordon.
After Earth, is so underrated, It probably would have done better during the days of ID4 and Men in Black films.
how is after earth underrated
You like what you like, I like what I like.@@jimbo9208
Agree on the Flash Gordon (the OG one).
That crappy time movie with Timberlake.
_Jupiter Ascending_ is a movie that needs to be watched multiple times to fully understand it. It wasn't bad but it wasn't meant to be "light fare".
The worst SF movies on this list are the unexpected UA-cam ads. Regardless, I agree with this list, and it could be much longer too.
Another dishonorable mention: Tomorrowland, with Clooney and Laurie
Earth's moon isn't going to hit the Earth,it's actually being pushed outward. No Majora's Mask future for us.
I think this list is missing some movies such as The Marvels or Thor: Love and Thunder. I say this because Marvel is one of the bigest studios there are and had some amazing movies, but both Thor 4 and The Marvels are pure garbage. You can't even say there was good acting or visuals or anything
Battlefield Earth is perhaps Hollywood’s biggest BRUH moment
I kind of enjoy its badness when watching it.
@@brycecarroll9665 that’s fair, but I personally don’t think I have enough brain cells to fry by watching it 😆
Some say that Godzilla killed Maria Pitillo's career
Jupiter Ascending is underrated. It's way better than both Blade Runner films and it will definitely become a Cult Classic. Technically it already is.
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is far more preferable than ANY of the films that made the actual list.
The Wachowski’s are hacks that made one good movie, not Geniuses that made a bunch of terrible movies bar one.
And I’m sick of pretending otherwise.
I mean... the plot for moonfall really isn't that complicated. The moon is a dyson sphere and an alien is attacking it's engine.
Before Battlefield Earth was released , George Lucas got to preview it . George thought the movie would be a big hit .
I agree with Battlefield Earth, Future World, After Earth, Mac and Me, Ballistic, Plan 9 From Outer Space, Pluto Nash, and Piranha II: The Spawning, as they are the worst.
But Chaos Walking, Godzilla 1998, Terminator Genisys, Jupiter Ascending, Moonfall, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, and Planet of the Apes 2001 are more like mediocre or lame or meh but not the wrost since there are many bad and very aweful sci fi films than them that you didn't mention like:
2177: The San Francisco Love Hacker Crimes
Birdemic 3: Sea Eagle
Dune World
Extraction Point
Monster: The Prehistoric Project
Hornet 2018
Konga TNT
Virus Shark.
Facts!

The Day After Tomorrow deserves a consideration for this list? Hell no.
Hell YES!!! But funny today: no global WARMING there - most of the northern hemisphere covered under... SNOW!
Bingo.
How bad were the 8 plans before if this was the best?😊
After reading the comments I see I'm not the only one who liked Godzilla :) Also, I don't think Planet of the Apes was top 10 worst. I'm sure there are some 'drive-in' movies out there that no one remembers that are much worse.
You guys clearly haven’t seen “Monster A Go-Go.”
I don't care what anyone says, I liked Moonfall and Godzilla
This list reminds me how easy it is for a child to find enjoyment
moonfall was so outrageously stupid it was kinda fun
yeah, but it was too long. Should have been 100 minutes max.
Hey now, Godzilla was a good movie. Jupiter Ascending was a lot of fun, and Ballistic was good as well.
I don’t see the Star Wars sequels there
The last three Star Wars movies are not on this list?
I never saw Godzilla(1998)as a sci-fi movie. To me its an action adventure monster movie
"I love dogs" lol 😆 😂😂
Sci fi movies have complications in making films especially big budget movies. Mac and Me, Delgo, Independence Day 2, Supernova even Ghosts of Mars are really bad movies to rewatch even they tried to make it good.
Let’s get honest for a moment!!! If any apocalypse happens today having to do with science; Mr.NDT would likely by a good percentage predict wrong concerning the science based event. He is speaking on moonfall but how greatly did he predict Covid 19 a few years ago 👨🏾💼🧋
Yep, agree with the choices on this list. I was most disappointed by Chaos Walking. The book was quite good. Mikkelson was terribly wasted.
Y'all think 2012 or the day after tomorrow deserves to be on this list? I'm convinced you all don't watch movies or listen to music with some of the crap you all produce.
I absolutely LOVE Godzilla 98!!!
Surrogates (2009) One Of My Least Favorite graphic novel films and Bruce Willis movies
Agreed on Dark Fate.
Even.L Ron would walk out.of Battlefied Earth 😮
Why is Dracula3000 not on this list?
SOME OF THESE MOVIES WEREN'T THAT BAD!
To not include The Marvels, Super Mario Bros Movie(93 movie)and Pacific Rim Uprising here, makes the list a joke.
They said no superhero movies
@@Almighty_Mage My bad, i didn't hear the superhero line. The other two movies count though.
