One of the most uplifting and satisfying endings for me is the end of Schindler's List. When the newly freed Jews walking in the field morphs into those still alive today (at the time of filming) plus their descendants with the scroll telling us how many are alive because of Oskar Schindler just demonstrates how much one flawed human being can accomplish when they choose to do good. Add on the scene at his grave in Israel with the "Schindler Jews" and the actors who portrayed them leaving a memorial and I was blubbering like a baby.
IMHO the most heartbreaking moment in that sequence was when the real Mrs. Schindler, having laid a stone of remembrance upon Oskar's grave, briefly caresses it -- as if Oskar himself might still feel her touch. And who's to say that he didn't?
The scene where Oscar Schindler breaks in front of the crowd and one can see remorse in his eyes for not being able to save more people...absolute Masterpiece 😍❤
Hah ironically frank darabont wanted the movie to end with the pan out to ocean for ambiguity impact. But movie producer made him add the beach scene for a happy ending.
@@Chris-hr2uj The book (by Stephen King) the movie is based on ends with Red's voice-over at the end: after "I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it its in my dreams" the book ends "I hope . . . I hope . . . I hope." This drives home Andy's thought earlier that "Hope is a good thing; maybe the best of things . . ." so that IS the happy ending -- that Red, who had given up all hope inside the prison, and even after getting parole would have ended up like Brooks, now has hope, as Andy always did. I think their reunion is pretty much implicit in that happy, hopeful ending.
@@richardcanedo1614 yes, i had read the book also has a same ending. The movie and book are a story of hope. I interpreted Redd's ending monologue to be that Redd was changed by Andy's hopeful tenacity. And by the ending monologue, Redd expresses his hope, despite the chances he may not make it to andy. I liked the sense of hope that the ambiguous ending places on viewers. But i think the producers of the film were of the mind that the general audience would appreciate an explicit happy ending as a reward, over the implied ending of hopefulness. Literature is art, and free to be critiqued with different opinions. The author and director took it one way. But the feedback from posters here is that the altered (producer's) ending, while less true to the original art, is more "perfect". Two ways to look at it. I tend to favor the original ending. I find it pretty tought provoking.
@@Chris-hr2uj I get your point, but I think that being explicit about their meeting (which is very strongly implied already by his non-suicide and his trip to that place about which Andy told him) detracts from the real theme of the movie, which is that "hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things," and the reason Redd has rediscovered his "I hope . . ."
"In case I don't see ya, Good afternoon, good evening and good night." Such a powerful closing line, and it's so cathartic of Truman to finally take his life into his own hands, defying his creators who had trapped him for decades.
They missed the greatest end to the best movie ever, The Princess Bride, the grandfather agreeing to come back the next day to read the book to his grandson again. "As you wish." The perfect end to a perfect movie.
It's a movie so good that it can never be remade. Infinitely quotable, absolutely enjoyable for ALL ages, with one of the most perfect casts ever assembled.
The Princess Bride is my all time favorite movie ending. It’s THE perfect movie and Peter Faulk’s character reminds me so much of my grandfather, who is my hero in life. So when he delivers that last line, “As you wish”, it makes me cry every single time because in that instant, I see my grandfather saying it to me.
"My friends, you bow to no one," is the only of the LOTR endings that brought tears to my eyes. Another one for this list could have been Saving Private Ryan's final scene in the cemetery at the marker for the captain. After the "Earn this" from a dying soldier, Ryan comes back decades later with his family to ask if he did.
"I'll be right here." Even as a fully grown adult, that ending still yanks on my heartstrings, with John Williams' iconic score really capturing the moment. 💔
I have very fond memories of watching "Return of the Jedi" for the first time. Me and my Dad watched it in his home on his VCR. He sat on the couch. I laid on a bean bag chair while we watched. It was very satisfying to watch it with him. God Rest Him.
I cry literally every single time Kevin Costner says, "Hey! Dad? You wanna have a catch?" In fact, I just watched the scene to get the quote just right, and, yep, I'm tearing up writing this comment and hearing the ball slap against the gloves in a different tab on my browser.
Absolutely!... I totally agree... I cry at that scene everytime....My dad passed away when I was 5....never had a catch with him....hope to in heaven someday.
Okay but The Dark Knight Rises ending... I'm happy the fact Bruce is alive tho, even if Batman is dead, Bruce is still successful and faithful to his own work!
Batman never died. "Robin" became the new Batman ! Bruce's whole point was to make Batman immortal through successors. That's why the ending showed Robin rising on the pad "The Dark Knight Rises" aka Batman. That's why Bruce replaced the Bat light on top of Gordon's police station. Batman. Not Robin or Nightwing.
To this day, I still occasionally think "could I be part of an elaborate show and am being watched right not?" Few movies make you doubt your own reality.
Too old for these stupid snotnosed millennials and Zoomers. Instead of enjoying ALL genres and era of cinema, they nit-pick through "popularity" instead of clarity as well.
I literally clicked on video only to check is there ”It’s wonderful life”. Person who made this video never saw that movie, otherwise, it would be here. Also, I would say that Graduate has to be on the list as well.
The Truman Show had the perfect ending. It didn't show us everything, but it didn't need to. We know that Truman went on to be free and live his life without being used as a puppet.
Thanks to guardian angel Clarence, George Bailey got the happy ending he deserved, wishing his hometown a Merry Christmas and coming together with his family for “Auld Lang Syne.” _It’s A Wonderful Life_ isn’t my favorite classic film, but the ending is heartwarming.
Silence of the Lambs has a great ending, especially that last line "I'm having an old friend for dinner", but this video is about the most satisfying endings. It's a huge difference between the terms "great" and "satisfying".
@@MartinSolcanexcellent point. That last line is the epitome of cleverness. Plus it’s great filmmaking to see how he is slowly following him in the end credits.
This list is pure gold! Revisiting some of the most satisfying movie endings brought back so many great memories. It's amazing how a perfect ending can leave such a lasting impression. Great job compiling these!
16:30 Christopher Nolan has stated many times that both the ending of “inception” and “Dark Knight Rises” are reality. Cobb gets to be with his kids and Bruce Wayne survives and goes into retirement. The endings are purposefully ambiguous, but he has clarified that it is reality.
It’s A Wonderful Life, The Best Years Of Our Lives, The Apartment, Singin In The Rain and Breakfast At Tiffany’s are some quintessential classic Hollywood films with endings that are both satisfying and cathartic ❤
Honorable Mention: Back to the Future Part III. Marty McFly has reunited with Jennifer, returned to 1985 with the revised timeline, and learned not to be provoked by name calling. Then, Doc Brown arrives in a new train time machine with Clara, Einstein, and their children. Doc doesn't stay long, but assures Marty that he's living a happy life, and says a perfect line to sendoff the series: "Your future hasn't been written yet. No one's has. Your future is whatever you make it. So make it a good one. Both of you."
"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." The end of The Usual Suspects is awesome!! Still one of my all-time favorite movies.
HP book ending is much more satisfying. Hear Harry take him apart, showing him no respect and Voldemort killed by his rebounded curse and hitting the floor with “mundane finality”, that’s the real satisfying ending. I say “hear” because the audiobooks are so awesome, that they’ve replaced the movies in my mind.
That ending scene in The Last Samurai where Nathan Algren played by Tom Cruise returned to the village was very satisfying. Having a lifetime of war and nightmares, he finally found peace, love and a sense of belonging.
I loved Knives Out. Was SO GOOD. I was so happy that the nurse got the house and money in the end. Because she was the only one who was genuinely kind to the Grandfather. She didn’t expect anything from him. She wasn’t trying to manipulate him. The Onion was the second movie in the detective series.
The ending of guardians of the galaxy vol 3 was also very satisfying. Seeing everyone survive, celebrate to dog days are over and go their seperate ways.
Casino Royale (not the spoof, of course): "Who is this?" - shot in villain's knee - music soares - "The name's Bond... James Bond" (uttered for the first time ever) - Bond theme - credits. Perfect. Thank you very much.
There are so many. In one minute I can think of City Lights, The Cider House Rules, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Color Purple, the Joy Luck Club, Gattaca, High Noon .... If You had a selection of 100 there would still some be missing.
The end of Gattaca was extremely artful and amazing. With the lock of hair that jerome gave vincent. Very metaphoric ending. Jerome "went traveling" too. Ironic ending where vincent became the "borrowed ladder" (both metaphorically and physically elevating Jerome in the end) instead of the other way around. Too bad didnt make this list. Contact should be on the list too.
Toy Story 3 - Andy plays with the toys with Bonnie one last time before leaving for college. Die Hard - Powell shots Karl, Holly punches Thornburg, and Argyle escapes the garage and drives Mclane and Holly away. Happy Gilmore - Happy returns to his grandma's house and see Chubbs in the clouds. Terminator 2 - Thumbs up Up - Carl, Russel, and Doug are together while the house is on top of Paradise Falls
Toy Story 3's ending is reminiscent of Winnie the Pooh, when Christopher Robin crosses adolescence and he must move on. It was a heart breaking realization and a reminder of how short are the beautiful moments of life.
How did they miss Toy Story 3 - not only a best movie ending, but a best trilogy ending (yes there are only 3 movies :) ) Was anyone not bawling their eyes out at the end?
I agree with you on et. It's one of my favorite 80s movies. I'm a big fan of it since I have et Funko pops and the dvd. When it comes to the DVD , dont buy it from universal studios, it will be like 30$ . If you do find it , try to find it somewhere else. Doing that is cheaper.
I agree with all of these, and would like to add two more: 1) Mr. Keating's students (except for Cameron) pay tribute to him by standing on their desks and saying "Oh Captain, My Captain" to which he replies with a smile "Thank you, boys" My second favorite ending is the final scene of "Places In The Heart" where the ghosts of Mrs Spalding's late husband, and the young man who accidentally unalived him are sitting side by side sharing Communion. Those are two of my favorite endings 🙂👍
Such wonderful endings! Dark Knight Rises,Jaws,Return of the Jedi,Forest Gump,ET-such a wonderful movie!I'll be right here. So heartwarming.Harry Potter, Indiana Jones-sunset.Indy's dad very wisely told him to let go.Casablanca,"You bow to no one".Perfect ending!Shawshank reunion is also great ending! Excellent video! I think Empire of the Sun when Jim is reunited with his parents…you can see all the mental weight drop from him…very beautiful moment for a beautiful film
Peter Weller's smile at the end of the original Robocop gets me every time. Perfect ending. OLD MAN: Nice shooting, son. What's your name? ROBOCOP: ...Murphy
Exceptional endings this video missed:- 1. BRAVEHEART - Mel Gibson screaming 'freedom' before being slaughtered followed by Scots fighting the Brits.. 2. THE FLIGHT - Denzel Washington being asked in last line 'so who are you' by his son in prison, and he replies 'that a good question'.. 3. INCEPTION - The final top on the table scene.. 4. SHUTTER ISLAND - When Mark Ruffalo (who we know now is a doctor) and Leonardo again discuss how messed up this jail is and they have to start another secret plan to rescue all.. 5. THE DEPARTED - When Mark Wahlberg finally kills Matt Demon and walks off to Washington in background... these are to name a few, the list can go on!!
The end of 89's Batman after the Joker is killed and Gotham becomes safe again and the Bat Siginal is introduced and the final shot shows Batman on top of a building looking out over the city while Danny's music swells.
You might have left these off because they were all little known movies, but I recommend you watch: 1. "Victory" with Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine, Max von Sydow, Pele, and a number of other world renown soccer players. 2. "The Natural." The only film I've ever seen where the audience stood and applauded at the end. I'm sure I could come up with others, but these are a good start
A lot the footballers were taken from Ipswich Town who were in the First division (the premier league was well over a decade away). But the film was amazing.
The book death of Voldemort was better. Because it showed him what he was, a man. The movie made him more mythical and monsterious. I don't think Rowling has the mind about her to drive the difference, but to have a magical death makes the whole thing feel unreal and more like it couldn't happen. While what is brilliant about the book, having his magic completely back fire on him and he just... dies... Shows that even magic isn't above reality of certain absolutes. And even the worst monsters are often just men.
There's one movie in existence where no one in their right mind would argue against: The Shawshank Redemption is Objectively one of, if not The greatest movie of All Time. Its #1 on most top tier movie categories, on several different UA-cam and social media platforms. Quinton Tarantino has his list of "Perfect Films." Well Shawshank is definitely on mine... Along with: Goodfellas. Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window. Back to the Future. Jaws. Terminator 2: Judgment Day. No Country For Old Men. John Carpenter's Halloween. (Perfect horror movie).
Batman(1989):After stopping his archenemy, the caped crusader is praised for his hard effort for protecting the city and getting an epic shot as Danny Elfman plays an amazing soundtrack. Shin Kamen Rider(2023):Although Ichomonji Hayato defeated the villain of the movie he lost his best companion and carrying on the mantle of the Kamen Rider legacy he then discovers Hongo Takeshi is alive as his soul is in the helmet and continues to ride his bike into the sunlight to fight the evil organization S.H.O.C.K.E.R as the credits roll. Spider-man 3(2007):While Peter Parker had a rough go at the start he still managed to give everything he's got to stop the villains ,all to have a dance with the love of his life. Halloween 2(1981):Laurie managed to dodge, duck, weave as her murderous brother tried to end her life she still managed to live as she's taken away in an ambulance as Mr.Sandman plays.
How is Usual suspects #10. I get it like Kevin spacey and all that, but watching that scene for the first time has to be like one of the craziest movie feelings ever
The end of Who Framed Roger Rabbit where they bring both Disney and Warner Bros. Characters together and the will is found and read and both Roger and Eddie get to walk out with the girl they love.
Crazy thing is, Frank Darabont wanted Shawshank to end with the line "I hope" as the camera panned to the ocean. Suggesting ambiguity and that Red was transformed into being hopeful, like Andy wanted. But the studio made him add the scene on the beach after to make the audience happy. Sometimes ambiguous endings are more impactful and artful. Terminator 2 should have ended the second Arnold went into the lava, and his system shut down cut to black screen.
Respect for your opinion 👍🏽. Abrupt, maybe but i think music and a crescendo would have smoothed it in to not be dense. I personally feel like sarah connor voiceover serves solely as a way to kinda explain the ending to the audience. The premise in Sarah's monologue that man and machine can coexist, was already established when she shook Arnold's hand at the end- i find it awesome when movie directors imply something very emotional or meaningful without so many words.
Hopefully they made another “Best Endings” video because they missed: - It’s A Wonderful Life* - Singing in the Rain - The Music Man - Princess Bride* - School of Rock - Rock’n’Rolla - Annie* (I prefer the original) - Secret of Roan Inish _and_ -Big Fish* That’s off the top of my head, and I starred the ones I’m surprised they didn’t include. I know I missed or forgot a lot more. [I excluded Pixar, Dreamworks and Disney movies for obvious reasons.]
The end of inception. It was beautifully ambiguous and after all of the adventure/drama/and twists and turns of reality it leaves the entire audience fixated upon one tiny object upon which they rest their entire concept of what is real on....and before we get resolution....it ends.
Off the top of my head: you missed Gone with the Wind, Psycho, It Happened One Night, North by Northwest, Schindler's List, All about Eve, Galaxy Quest, Princess Bride, Inglourious Basterds, and so on.
It's a Wonderful Life...... I always loved the ending. The Green Mile, Catch me if you can, The Revenant, The Martian, The Prestige, Mr, Holland's Opus, Slumdog Millionaire etc. all have great endings.
another ending was "life is beautiful" of robeto benini when his son entered the US tank, and Spiderman 1 y 2 directed by Sam Raimi especially the one, when peters said : my power is a gift and a curse and then spidey on the city with that powerful soundtrack
I read that the person that places the very last stone (whose face is unseen) was Liam Neeson.
@@kristashafer93098 It was Neeson but he placed a red rose, not a stone.

Michael Kane's nod just always cheers me up and makes my day. Reminds me there is still good in life and in this world
I think Empire of the Sun when Jim is reunited with his parents…you can see all the mental weight drop from him…very beautiful moment for a beautiful film
Peter Weller's smile at the end of the original Robocop gets me every time. Perfect ending.
OLD MAN: Nice shooting, son. What's your name?
ROBOCOP: ...Murphy
The ending of Billy Elliot had me in tears.
Yessss!!!!
E.T. makes me cry every time and yes you got me on this
Exceptional endings this video missed:-
In the Name of the Father....that ending can make a grown man cry.
The ending of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ = VERY GOOD.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I could watch most if not all these movies and would be happy. Damn good list.
The end of 89's Batman after the Joker is killed and Gotham becomes safe again and the Bat Siginal is introduced and the final shot shows Batman on top of a building looking out over the city while Danny's music swells.
You might have left these off because they were all little known movies, but I recommend you watch:
To me there is no more satisfying ending than that of "Slumdog Millionaire"
I'd also add the end of Blazing Saddles. Nothing like riding off into the sunset, in a limo. The meta humor plays on!
Cleavon Little & Gene Wilder!! Yes FTW! Easily one of my favorite comedies AND westerns!
Fun fact: Robin William's "Son of a bitch stole my line" at the end of Good Will Hunting was improvised
Groundhog Day is one of the greatest scripts of all time....
I ❤ ‘Django Unchained.’
😁
The Shawshank redemption is the BEST
It's one of my favorites as well.
Love your content guys
Thank you UA-cam for showing the video in between the Ad’s
Enjoyed a lot
Big Fish has an ending that gets me every time. Also, the first Back to the Future has a perfect ending.
I dont care what anyone says, the pursuit of happiness has my favorite sweet ending in any movie ever.
I agree. There were few poignant moments left out, like Dudley’s acknowledgment and hand shake with Harry. That was bloody important.
There's one movie in existence where no one in their right mind would argue against: The Shawshank Redemption is Objectively one of, if not The greatest movie of All Time. Its #1 on most top tier movie categories, on several different UA-cam and social media platforms.
Quinton Tarantino has his list of "Perfect Films."
Well Shawshank is definitely on mine...
Along with:
Goodfellas.
Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window.
Back to the Future.
Jaws.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
No Country For Old Men.
John Carpenter's Halloween. (Perfect horror movie).
Da Vinci Code ending was incredibly powerful.
30 years of ‘Forrest Gump’, one of the greatest Hollywood film classics of all time.
"I am not a smart man, but I know what love is!"
Caddyshack - “Hey everybody! We’re all gonna get laid!” Best. Ending. Ever
Rodney Dangerfield!! >. < rip.. Dude was a madman, and comical genius.
You sounded so adorable sayin “get to the chopper!” I actually laughed out loud! 🤭😄🤣
Whiplash is one of my favorite movies of all time. There's nothing like that ending.
I LOVE the ending of Silence of the Lambs
No. 0, One for the Angels "it's a Wonderful Life!".
Truman Show, Batman, and ANY Morgan Freeman movie.
like Seven?
@@bizooki3930great film
@@bizooki3930 You didn't like the ending of Se7en?
@@jcehlertYes, it was very SATISFYING
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! Awesome collection of good movies. (Saving the names of the movies that I have missed watching..) 🤣
Small tidbit, but I love it whenever the announcers get to flex their Arnold impressions whenever he pops up in these videos, never stop .
me too it's always hilarious hearing other people's arnie impressions
The shawshank redemption ♥️
this may be your best list yet! so good!
"The Last Starfighter" and "The Boy Who Could Fly" had some pretty heartwarming and satisfying endings too.
Kudos just for bringing up "The Last Starfighter". Wow.
Can't argue with number 1!
Oh Heck Yeah!
What about the ending of Cinema Paradiso?
Uhh, where is It's a Wonderful Life?!?! Horrible oversight!
Love It WatchMojo.
The ending scene in ‘Whiplash’ was literally impressive, no doubt it.
Jules & Vincent , at the end of , ' Pulp Fiction ' ...
Bad ending for vincent
Crazy thing is, Frank Darabont wanted Shawshank to end with the line "I hope" as the camera panned to the ocean. Suggesting ambiguity and that Red was transformed into being hopeful, like Andy wanted. But the studio made him add the scene on the beach after to make the audience happy. Sometimes ambiguous endings are more impactful and artful.
Terminator 2 should have ended the second Arnold went into the lava, and his system shut down cut to black screen.
I disagree, it ended perfectly. Your ending is too dense, abrupt, and draining. The Sarah Conner voiceover was perfect.
The Dark Knight has the best ending of all time ! "a silent guardian, a dark knight" Thrilling, satisfying, epic !!!
Hopefully they made another “Best Endings” video because they missed:
- It’s A Wonderful Life*
- Singing in the Rain
- The Music Man
- Princess Bride*
- School of Rock
- Rock’n’Rolla
- Annie* (I prefer the original)
- Secret of Roan Inish
_and_
-Big Fish*
That’s off the top of my head, and I starred the ones I’m surprised they didn’t include.
To me, it was a perfect ending for that movie. Zimmer's score was spot on.
I would say in a similar way - the ending of Momento was just perfect. Half the theatre was screaming at the screen for both Inception and Momento.
They got it right at number one! I wholeheartedly agree!
Truman show ended w the guys immediately switching channels to see what else is on. Best commentary on modern society ever
Good list. I'll have to check out the ones I haven't already watched. Another one came to mind with a satisfying ending - Midnight Run.
Off the top of my head: you missed Gone with the Wind, Psycho, It Happened One Night, North by Northwest, Schindler's List, All about Eve, Galaxy Quest, Princess Bride, Inglourious Basterds, and so on.
Fantastic list it was super great but um... you forgot CARS (best movie of all time btw)
Love you guys actually trying the voice of Arnold xD
The ending of 1984's Ghostbusters when the four guys along with Dana and Louis emerge after Gozer's defeat and they celebrate with all of New York.
We have to Consider "it's a Wonderful Life!" Ending. It's one of the GOAT of Cinema Endings.
