I saw the Trio in the early 90's with Bob, Nick, and George Grove. One of my favorite concerts. Bob was having a bad string day; he must have snapped half a dozen guitar strings during the performance. He restrung his own guitar every time, without breaking the performance. He got increasingly theatrical about it as the show went on, turning what could have been a disaster into an extra bit of comedy. What a pro!
I’m 82 and grew up with the original Trio. Started playing a Martin guitar because of them. Our group always led off with Greenback Dollar. Still love it. Rest in peace boys. You were the best.
Awake with Covid, 7 th night. Congestion. Wanted something uplifting. Was worrying and wanted to smile. My mind kept saying KINGSTON. KINGSTON. From my early years, I remembered KINGSTON TRIO! And now I'm smiling! Thank you for this great music documentary. Oh they were so so good. I actually feel better! It's early 2023. I'm 71. But when I listen to these guys, I'm 13 again! What beautiful music!
I saw Bob, Nick and George twice at the Riverside Auditorium in Riverside, Calif. I'm so thankful for that i cried throughout, both times. Lots of memories of growing up from 5 years old to now, 67 years old. When we lost Bob this year I felt like a cousin had died. They will all be in my heart always.
I agree and am honored to have been his friend the last seven years of his life as well as having the opportunity to direct his last stage performances. Merry Christmas.
Thank you for this. I live in Brisbane, Australia and am a full-time singer/guitarist. The Kingston Trio were a huge influence on me. ‘Where Have All the Flowers Gone’ was the first song I sang in a talent quest. ‘Bad Man’s Blunder’ was the first song I sang for my singing teacher! I listen to them regularly to this day. When each of the original four passed on, I felt a sad loss.
Ahoy! I have all their albums, 21 on Capitol and 4 on Decca. I still play them. I keep my banjo handy. Even though I'm the only one who wants to listen!
I grew up with two older brothers and the Kingston Trio. Loved them and could not wait for new albums from them. I actually saw them at John Carroll University in Cleveland when I was a kid in the 60's. I remember a joke they made when singing "Isle in the Water"...when the title was announced, Bob Shane said " Not in my pool you won't!"
My sad duty. I am unexpectedly the last director to film Bob's final interview for a mini-Kingston Trio documentary shown here, and three PBS concert specials, including his last live stage performance. The specials all aired from 2015 to 2019, and our special live holiday concert shot in Tulsa, OK premiered in 2018 and airs annually as a Christmas program. Now in 2021 all three concerts are available in DVD and on all worldwide streaming platforms. It was a true honor to work with and get to know Bob. All the best, Chris. Cheers, Chip
@@lindahaddock Yes, I agree. Lovely to hear from you again. Please give my love to Bunnie. I saw her a few months ago in AZ for Bob's belated memorial. best, Chip
In the last verse of my ballad "Where Have All the Songmen Gone?" I wrote " Dave and Bob, Nick and John, with the Trio they did sing. The melodies that poured forth from them, the laughter they did bring. And I'm sure they joined Steve and John, and Harry in their song. And if you listen closely, you'll hear Jim now sing along. " The final chorus follows, "Where have All the songmen gone? The melodies we love to hear. Their power was a six string guitar, their voices soft and clear. They taught us about truth and life. They taught us about love and war. Where have all the songmen gone? Won't they sing anymore. Where have all the songmen gone? Won't they sing anymore."
I was breast fed on the Kingston Trio. So great to learn all kinds of stuff I didn’t know cos we were so cut off here 🇿🇦 and only. Got the records .. records I used to play endlessly on my radio shows in those days. Thanks so much for this.🌹🌹🌹
Spent a couple of evenings at the Kingston Trio Fantasy Camp in Scottsdale in late July. Great fun. These guys are really excellent and they have some amazingly loyal fans.
WOW, talk about memories, thanks for the video..I used to listen to these guys on a VM (Voice of Music) monaural record player before they came out with their 'Stereo Concert' record.
We were singing along with KT in the car, just today, to Tijuana Jail, me & and a 7-year-old granddaughter. She also likes Harry Bellefonte. Great video.
I was born in 1949 and grew up loving the Kingston Trio as much as any rock group in the late 1950s, early 1960s. Wow! I haven't heard of the 'Limeliters' in ages! You know these guys must have influenced the 'Smother's Brothers'.
I was at the two day recording at the Avalon Theater..that was awesome,,,and this is promotional video makes me wonder what the whole video will be like...I can hardly wait to see it. My wife and I get to see the KT 8-10 times a year. They are still the GROUP that was and still is the driving force behind the folk music genre.

Many of the original Trio footage is available on DVD and for years was sold on their website. But with The Trio changing ownership hands in 2019 and Bob Shane passing in 2020, the website is unpredictable. Having worked with Bob and the Trio of 2001 to 2019, I was lucky to receive many of their original concerts for my collection. In fact, much of the vintage footage we included in this mini documentary video. Cheers, Chip
@@ChipMiller I would truly love nothing more than to see these! That's why the text description on the video explains it was the 2003-2017 lineup which Bob produced and participated in many of their shows. This was the lineup along with Bob, that appears in our 2016-2019 all star PBS TV concert special. Bob was a good friend, as were these Trio players, so I don't need to be informed of the obvious.
