I heard of a Swiss that his father was paying chf 16,000 => 608,000 baht per month for his care in Switzerland.
He brought his father to Thailand, rented a two bedroom place for 10,000 baht per month and had 2 full time carers looking after him 24/7 and saved a fortune and his father had better care and went on excursions etc instead of just being left in a home to deteriorate and die.

Same in the US. You're basically warehoused in a dacility and kept to rot. And the prices are astronomical, many times these prices.

thank you so much. my late thai wife and i had planned to retire in thailand, hopefully in hua hin. my wife was my caregiver as i am disabled. this is another option to consider. though conversant in thai and financially secure, living by myself is problematic.

UK DHSS would save a lot of money sub-contracting "assisted care" to Thailand.
The cost of a carehome in the UK for the DHSS is about £1600 per week => 290,000 baht per month.

Well done Les for taking the time to do this video on assisted living. What is very very good is how it is broken down into packages with prices, which gives you the flexibility for what you can afford and what fits best to your particular needs. The quality of care as you say is a no brainer and it's a shame the UK care system has fell soo far behind to match this type of care. The biggest shock for me was the ratio between staff and care home members. The ratio of one to one care is unbelievable for that price, you'll never see that in the UK at those prices.I think the feel good factor as you mentioned does make a difference to your metal and also physical health, especially with our dreary Uk climate.
Thanks again Les for taking the time to do this as its something we would not think about until the time comes, which gives all of us a chance to prepared if the time comes.

Hi, considering a move to Thailand in the next couple of years with me and my wife early 50's and 2 sons 17 and 21. This is one of the most informative videos I have ever seen and answered one of our main concerns. Thank you so much for making it. Our future pensions etc would easily cover the costs over there compared to the £6k to £7k you pay every month in the UK which is an absolute rip off !. well done !!

Had a relative going to dementia care unit in the US, luckily she had long term care insurance that covered a portion of the care, but even with that, it was $80,000 per year. The going rate for self-pay is more than $100,000 per year.

Outstanding report, very professionally done. In comparison to the places I toured in New York a few years back with an elderly relative who had mobility issues, this place seems leagues better, and at a fraction of the cost. On the one hand, a person can rent a place and make all these medical and assisted living arrangements themselves... but this organization seems to take all that stress out of the equation.

I believe a Swiss man and his Thai wife have a long established successful "resort" in or near Buriram Province, where many older Swiss expats, perhaps other European expats, live in separate bungalows, and do enjoy fantastic care. I have seen the van of this residence \ resort take the guests and some Thai resort staff to dinner at London Steak in Buriram. I believe they rent by the month at Lanee's Residence.

I am seriously considering expatriating to Thailand for a more affordable retirement, and had found the Baan Lalisa website during my research. But I knew nothing of this beautiful facility in Hua Hin.

Staff care ratio: One carer per one guest.
That's about all that needs to be said given the culture of respect for their elders. Cost is always a consideration in life but if one can afford this type of care, it appears to be very well worth it. I know my experience going to Bangkok Hospital recently, if indicative of the type of care in general to include facilities such as this, is exceptional, trust worthy, and of great value.

I had no idea you could get assisted living in Thailand. But its definitely something worth considering when the time comes. You got me thinking. It's so much more reasonable than here in the UK. And with the climate and the pool: as you say, it's a bit of a no brainer. It would be great to see the Pattaya one too if you get the opportunity. Personally, I'd be looking for something with a bit more greenery and nature. But I guess it's just been built, so that could change. Still, looks like a potential option. Cheers for this information. Very helpful.

The Cha am location offers both. Independent and assisted. They have a block of Condos dedicated for assisted living. The price is what was provided at the time of the video. Thanks for your comment.

    Thanks Les,
Most definately (VFM) value for money in comparison to anything provided in the west.
So a basic singleton would cost 50,000b pm, 30 for room and 20 for board and depending on needs would have to pay the extra's as and when required.
At todays rate about £1,150 pm or less than £300 pw.
Regarding the food is it buffet style or a choice from a set menu and does the cost cover western fare?
Also is it a dry facility or can you bring your own alcohol to enjoy either with meals or in your own room?
Do they clean you rooms/condo daily or a couple of times a week and what about laundry facilities/towels etc?
And as you can have the odd guest to stay over night very reasonable and with the added facilities of Private beach/pool and fitness centres what's not to like.
So over all, if and when those needs arise I will be advocating for my kids to send to such a facility.
On personal note this would probably arise after I had lived in my own apartment (Condo) and needed some help on a daily basis.
    Well done me old mate👍.
    Regards
    Barry

Without a doubt it’s better than any western option…it sounds like on the cheap it would be 30k for the flat, another 20 for 12h care , and another 20 for a meal plan… so 70k and your living large…

This is good information but some of the most basic information is missing. This is supposed to be an “assisted living” facility but there is no information about what assistance is given other than providing meals. For instances, assisting living places here (in Canada) usually including cleaning the rooms, doing laundry, driving residents to doctors appointments and shops. What sort of assistance do they provide?

    • @RetiredandLivingthedream
      @RetiredandLivingthedream  Рік тому +1

Thanks for your comment. You are correct it is Basic information. Many people watching were unaware that Thailand had such places, your questions were asked in emails but I did not have time to ask and answer every question given to me sadly. This is why I have provided contact links both in the video and description to contact Baan Lalisa who will give you the personal information you may require. Thanks for watching and for giving your comment. Hope you can find exactly what your looking for.

Sad to hear the dialysis answer. I do home peritoneal dialysis in the states. My insurance pays the rental cost and it's just sterile fluid exchanges ... No blood, less dangerous. I was hoping a Thai care facility could at least coordinate the same. Assisted living here can, usually through a clinic partnership.

I am also retired and built a small 3 bungalow pool resort "Coconut Palms" with my wife in Kantarawichai, Maha Sarakham. We have basically stopped running it as a hotel due to the daily work load and my thoughts are to run it as assisted living or a care home with a live in, on site carer. I'd love to chat with anyone that could advise us on how to go down that path.

Thanks for your comment, that path is great to follow. Sunshine residencies is a great starting point, have a look at their model it works great and has sold 70% of the New project, the demand is there. @@RetiredandLivingthedream my mom had alzheimers and it caught her while already living in a good retirement home in Mexico where she was able to have 24 hour nurses for 5 years.
I study as much as I can about the illness and it's root causes and now the alternative new thinking of medicine is pinpointing the origins or cause to eating habits, diets, gut health and stress, not so much to a mental illness inside the brain.
If I ever find myself in that situation I will definitely move to Thailand and that company seem to do elder care the right way and fairly affordable.
One thing that happened to my mom that could be very common in patients is dehydration, which sent her in bad shape to intensive care for a while. The reason is that Alzheimer's patients don't have the ability to communicate their needs or what they feel so if they are thirsty and the nurse overlooks giving them enough water that is a problem. The only solution I see is to tag or put a bracelet on every patient to force the caregivers to monitor the water intake, specially in a extreme weather like Thailand where it doesn't take long to dehydrate.
I bet a lot of patients can live a lot longer if monitored because I am sure that problem is very common.
Anyway, I am moving to Thailand hopefully next year so it's always good to be prepared for any eventuality, hope for the best but be ready for the worst.
      Thanks.

My opinion Mmmmm well there are many options on how to fund this I will do another video soon on how to fund this by Thinking outside the box but if your on your own it is a possible solution but those who have no Thai partner this option works for me. Dementia takes it's toll on all around those who suffer from this, it takes a special person to deal with this, some Thai partners would walk away. So sorry for the long reply what ever floats your boat with this question. You can always try before you commit. Thanks for watching.

The rooms and door ways look tight if you needed to use a small mobility scooter . I presume there are ramps for them plus at least two lifts together per lift station in case one breaks down. Is there a sprinkler system in the place , since your an ex fire man what's the evac plan in case of emergency

    • @RetiredandLivingthedream
      @RetiredandLivingthedream  Рік тому

Thanks for your Question, the best person to ask these questions is in the Link below the video, John can answer any questions you require. As far as sprinklers I did not see any but the apartments have smoke detection and each floor has fire fighting equipment. Having inspected care homes in the UK at the time of my inspections now over 15 years ago they only had smoke detection and not sprinklers. Hope you can get the answers your looking for.
      Best wishes Les.

    Good video mate well done.
However, it's not for me. I think the properties are too small and very expensive. The complex reminds me of an updated Russian utilitarian design.
I believe you can get better quality accommodation and employ your own staff, for a lot less. Obviously, you need to do your due dillingence with regard to suitability.
