Alexandra Anele I really like the plouise base. I have freckles all over my face (on my eyelids too) and it covers them so my eyeshadow doesn’t look patchy anymore. The shade range is nice as well ☺️
The urban decay eyeshadow primer potion anti-aging. I have oily lids and hooded eyes. My shadow lasts all day and i find the eyeshadows easy to blend on the primer. I don’t like the original UD primer potion, doesn’t preform as well.
lately i've been really loving the p louise base 🥰 it holds onto pigment so nicely and i honestly don't think i've ever been able to blend my eyeshadow as easily as i do with this primer, it's amazing! btw great video, i loved it 💗

The answer for me is YES. My eyelids are so oily I am surprised the U.S. military hasn’t invaded them. My recommendation: NARS Smudge Proof Eye Shadow Base
I recently bought it after your recommendation and it’s AMAZING! Thank you thank you thank you!!! My blue eyeshadow finally stays all day long without getting patchy or greasy. I add a bit of translucent powder on top of it works great.
@@yangtu2 yes! I recently just found Wet N Wild Photofocus eye primer. It’s in a black and white tube. I find it applies best with the fingers and only use a little bit.
M S this might seem like A silly recommendation, but I have natural long nails and know the struggle very well LOL! Get yourself a nail brush or a soft toothbrush. Use that to scrub the inside of your nails gently. I mean the underside of your nails! You can also use a very light layer of clear builder gel and curate under a cheap LED light. And it’s like gel but super easy to use and just gives a thin layer of strength. 💛
@M S That's rather disturbing...you use your hands when cooking and don't want to clean your nails? Unhygienic!! You should be cleaning extra well BEFORE you mix with your hands. Use a b Nail brush.

@@thekey207 I use concealer and translucent powder. I tried an eye primer and I hate it. It doesn't blend. It doesn't cover the darkness and it's too thick. I will have to try some more drugstore eye primers.

My all time favorite eye primer, Tati swears by it too, is the Wet N Wild Eyeshadow Primer. Super dope for someone with oily lids and also it sets and dries down on its own!
I use the Nars Pro-Prime base. It’s smooth and does an insane job. I have pretty hooded eyes and super oily lids but no creasing even after a 12-hour work day. Also thank you so much for your content it has helped me a lot.
Thank you for a very informative video. I've been using MAC Painterly, I also cover with a bit of setting powder as well which helps blend out smoother for me. I'm 67 years old so wrinkles and hooded eye lid needs all the help it can get.
If I don't use MAC Paint Pot, I will have absolutely no eyeshadow on by the end of my work day. Thank you for this video... very informative and beautifully laid out for anyone to understand. You have a gift, my friend.
I like how you go about proving your point by comparing the options. Now I truly believe on the power of primer. With whole the mask thing, having great makeup is the only way to go. And my eyeliner definitely lasts longer with primer.
The way you explain things is on point everytime. I also have very very dark dark circles eeeeee and after seeing your videos it has really helped me to start loving about how I look. I would love to see your video on how to hold brushes and use them while doing make-up, it would be really helpful again, thankssss
Elf has two different 16 hr. "camo" concealers, matte and hydrating. I use the matte one (black cap) in 1-2 shades lighter, shadow blends great. Works like a charm!
Absolutely love these videos of yours. I am mindful (and grateful) of the hell you put your skin through to do these. Bless up and thanks for spreading the knowledge.
So I started binge watching your videos on a work night until 5 am. Now that I'm done with work, I'm back lol. Just allow me to say thank you so much for this video and for your dedication to really teach us. Most makeup artists will take in "theories" or "opinions". The good ones might compare one scenario to another and that's it. I've never seen anyone who continues to remove her eye makeup to show us 5-6 scenarios! Not to mention I can relate to all the patchiness and the muddiness that happens on my lids. So thank you. And you're beautiful. And you don't need any make up. But if you like it then go ahead. Why am I still typing? ok bye.

The most intensely comprehensive video I have ever seen on this topic. THANK YOU!! I will be purchasing eye primer in my next order. FYI I have lived for your “dude” series
Yes, very helpful! Thank you! I was doing the concealer with a setting powder bc the concealer tended to crease but it does help with blending! I always find that when I use eyeshadow primer I get skipping of the color on the lid. 🤷♀️
I love eden primer potion I’m super oily so that’s one that has always worked. NARS has one that works amazingly but it’s a clear primer so you can still see my veins under the eyeshadow lol
💜❤️ I really love the ABH primer as well. Before I used shape tape but I'm a little older and it was looking dry on my lids. I really love the ABH. Great video so educational as per usual so thank you! 😊
Loved this video!! I use the NYX Proof It primer and I love it. It's cheap but it works so well, keeps my eye shadow on like new all day and doesn't crease. I love the way you break this process down. Thanks so much... this was AWESOME!
I have extremely oily eyelids (+kinda hooded) and so far the only eyeshadow primer I found works for me is the Wet n Wild Photofocus one. I had literally 0 creasing and nothing smudged even tho I wore the eyeshadow for hours (from 9am to 9pm)!
I developed an allergy on an area of one of my eyelids because of primer, with no redness or pain, it was an area of lizard-like skin (dermatitis). I changed primers but the damage was done (I had used Urban Decay primer for years). It has taken me about two years to overcome it. Now I am extremely careful about what I put on my eyelids. I have compared some, I find the ABH very drying, it reminds me of the urban decay one so I stay away from that. Currently, I use the Jeffree Star's concealer as an eyelid primer for everyday makeup or the P Louise Base if I'm going for intense color. I never knew what made me have that reaction, maybe having a super drying product for hours every day, or maybe I got a bad one... In any case, now, I'm very careful with my eyelids and I am careful not to use any expired products either. Thanks for the video Alex!
@@goldie4245 I know I'm late but I have oily dehydrated skin (so I need both types depending on my skin that day). I would suggest the NYX Proof it (it's clear and slightly tacky, not drying) or the Revolution Super Base (it's new in a black packaging but it is very fair like this ABH one and is very thin and doesn't dry out my lids). The other one would be Tarte Creamy Shape Tape. I hated the OG, but this version is super hydrating for lids and under eyes. Perhaps even the new KVD Good Apple Concealer. It has a super SUPER thin consistency and when I reviewed it (granted on my under eyes) it was SO thin yet FULL coverage and a natural finish so that one might be good for texture as you barely notice any product and would barely need any of those 2 concealers. I prefer primers over concealers but for super dry lids that mine can get at times then I need the extra hydration that concealer provides. Sorry for the rant but wanted to be specific 😊
Good eye primers from the drugstore: Milani, Wet n Wild, ProFusion. High end: Sigma, Anastasia, Esum mixing medium (doubles as a primer and will make your shadows waterproof), Kevin Aucoin, Bobby Brown.
i mix primer & concealer & i lightly set w translucent powder. oily, slightly hooded eyes. former performer. this is the only way shadows last and are vibrant-ish on me!
i ALWAYS wondered why i got that line right near my crease where shadow wouldn’t place and now i know. damn lmao this is was super informational ilysm thank you. you honestly deserve SO much more recognition for your channel. i’ve always wondered why you don’t have millions of followers already. this is the only beauty channel that matters imo 😂
I love Lorac's & NYX's regular eye primers & NYX glitter primer!! Also, if you want a colored primer, Revolution makes them in a pot form, like mac paintpots.
I use a brush to put on primer. The primer I use is NYX Proof it waterproof eyeshadow primer and it doesn't look like the texture in the video. NYX Proof it sorta blends into the skin then I put white concealer on for when I'm using colors like yellows because I'm black. Anyway my question is, should I get a different primer because I feel like it doesn't do anything for my eyeshadow
Put concealer under the eye primer in very small amounts. I hate the eye primer I have it doesn't cancel out any darkness, it doesn't blend and it can get cakey real quick. What it dies do is stop creasing dead in its tracks if you don't set the concealer, the oil from the concealer breaks down your eyeshadow or it just let's you natural lid oil through. The eye primer or translucent powder is blocking the oil. A normal eyeshadow or normal powder is not designed to block oil or moisture.
Try a white eyeshadow powder instead of white concealer. Or I think Mac (paint point?) and Nyx do a white eyeshadow base. I think the primer is OK at stopping creasing of the shadow but yes if you need colours to pop then it's a pigment problem.
I only use white eyeshadow if I'm trying to mute or soften the color out, I never understood the concept of using it as base to try and get pigment. Thank you for pointing this out, I love your content!
Agree about Elf. I use the unpigmented and I find it still slightly blurs and colour corrects, even with the thinnest of coats. I'm an older woman with oily eyelids and my shadow lasts all day, virtually without creasing or breaking down in any way. And $4 CAD is right on.
This video made so much sense to me. I admit I was using concealer like I see on ig and plastering a huge amount of shape tape on my lids. I used to always use primer before this whole concealer wave happened but after seeing this, I'm definitely going back to eye primer
I did exactly like you with the concealer issue and it didn't look as vibrant. So I would play in eyeshadow and test one eye with primer the other with concealer and the primer does a way better job of enhancing the colors. I only use concealers now for cut creases.
Well, this is the best and clearest and in depth and most educational video about primers that I've ever seen in my life! Period!! You really surprise me everytime I watch you, you are one step ahead in explaining stuff that's for sure! Thank you very much for all the things you teach me!💖💖💖
@Flower Petal yes actually I already follow him and love him too, but Alex in this video went really in depth and tried a lot of different things on her eyes to show us, so I really appreciated that.
Thx sweets ... I love ur 2 cents ... I use Mac Paint pot cuz Angie at Hot n Flashy does and I'm old but this vid really taught me a lot about how products work. Love that. XO, Kelly - stay well
I’ve used multiple different bases and honestly, in my personal opinion, the P Louise base outshines them all! I find sometimes primers react and almost darken the colour of shadows, especially yellows and greens. Your eye makeup looks amazing all day too, the only problem is the rest of your makeup lasting as long
A great concealer that can be used as a primer is Make up for ever Full cover. I love the Urban decay primer potion in their colored formula. I use the dark and light colour in my kit, that way I can adjust the coloe depending on my client's skin tone
Also, I LOOOOVE using the inglot ivory gel liner nr 68 on the lid to intensify light colours. I used to use the Danessa Myricks Colorfix-es a lot, especially their nude range, but they dry out really fast. That's a shame, because it's a great product. Tried the ofra gel primer. It's similar to too faced shadow insurance and UD Primer potion the original formula, but much easier to work on top. Also the Inglot Eyeshadow keeper is a great transparent eye primer. I have the Plouise primer as well, it's not bad by any means, but I don't think it suits my technique
Good example of how it's going to work out for the best results! ❤️ I love P.Louise it has also colored bases and the results are very good.. It has a significant way to be used not as other primers..!! Pack (Patting motions) the color on and then buff it out.. No setting with powder.. Just a little amount on the lid and then the eyeshadow) 🥳 Can't wait for the next video! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I always do my foundation before my eyeshadow and when I’m applying the foundation I also just apply it to my eyes/eyelids like I do everywhere else and it’s always worked well as an alternative to primer for me.
I use the Maybelline FitMe Concealer on my eyelids and it works just fine. I do get the benefits of an actual eye primer but I don't have many options available to me so I use that instead
Love this video!! As I've gotten older certain primers make my lids crepey. UD used to be my go to forever. Even the tiniest amount does it. I loooove the PLouise primer. I find it perfect for me! Even better than the ABH one.
i’ve got really oily and hooded eyelids and the only thing that makes eyeshadow not crease is the bobbi brown cream shadow with a bit of powder. i’ve tried a few primers that didn’t work including the mac paint pot. its also very nice to see what happens when u use too much product bc sometimes my shadow doesn’t blend that well or i get those weird lines so i will definitely be making sure i don’t pack on too much
This just convinced me on buying a product I never even thought about buying lol always used a concealer but wasn’t completely satisfied so this might help!
Have been trying your hacks out and am so impressed with your ideas! Love the brow results. You gave me back even brows!!! Love the Anastasia primer but the single color is an issue. You are fabulous
Milani eye primer 🙌 is translucent & suitable for any skin color, better than UD primer potion, and at a fraction of the price. ProFusion eye primer is also good & affordable and has pigment if you want to cancel anything. Both of these work on oily eyelids. Before eye primers, I was using Revlon Colorstay concealer bc it was the only thing that would prevent my shadow from creasing within 2 hours of application. Then they finally started to come up with primers. Hooray!
Elf eyeshadow primers are chiefly what I use, for price and efficacy. I'll use a sample of Urban Decay now and then (I'll have to try the anti-aging one as someone suggested below) and I have a mini-sized Tarte shape tape concealer of the wrong shade and which I don't care to use for concealing just to use it up. It'd be a gas to see what a black and/or a white eyeshadow primer does for shadow looks (or at least it'd satisfy my curiosity)... Elf has a "new" putty eye primer in varied shades, black and white included which I was wondering if I needed. I generally use the Elf primer in a tube with the doefoot applicator, in "sheer". Great video!
Hi Kimbery, l wonder how much stuff we all have that is the wrong shade. I always think I'll use it, but still don't. Elf eye primer is my go to, for now. Alex is great, right. Peace Sheila, : ).
I 💙 the P. Louise...and I use color 0 Rumour. Works REALLY well for me! It was kinda eerie because I was sitting here deciding if I wanted to put on primer with my shadow today just to run NOWHERE for less than five minutes and then .....................💥BOOM💥 your video popped up! So primer it is! I mean, why TF not?!?
"Can I use concealer?" I mean, I understand the person meant if it would look good, but technically you can use whatever you want. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
I love your videos they’re so helpful 🤓 I liked the urban decay Eye primer the one that comes in a golden/bronze tone but they make a lighter version which I liked as well but I prefer a true to skin tone primer most days.
Preface: I have very delicate, super crepey ball sac looking, DRY AF lids, and I do okay with the Urban Decay, but have better luck with MAC Prep + Prime or NARS Pro Prime. I do lightly powder my crease, as it's very fold-y and makes blending a real pain in the ass. Love your vids and this one is especially great!
I love how you're still staying informative and teaching me new things in this era of makeup UA-camrs' hauls and declutters. PLEASE keep up the good work!
What are your thoughts about putting down primer over a base? Like your concealer. I tend to put on my base and cover my lids then I really want to use primer. Would you talk about that please? I really love your techniques so your advice is super duper appreciated! Stay safe and healthy 💜

i ALWAYS wondered why i got that line right near my crease where shadow wouldn’t place and now i know. damn lmao this is was super informational ilysm thank you. you honestly deserve SO much more recognition for your channel. i’ve always wondered why you don’t have millions of followers already. this is the only beauty channel that matters imo 😂
OMG this video is so helpful! Thank you so much for explaining these, I was so confused and now I understand. You're amazing thank you! 😘
Thank you! This is awesome! I love that you do these types of experiments on camera. It’s super helpful!🤓
Can you please do a makeup video for those of us who wear glasses. Please! Thank you so much. Love your videos!!
definitely gonna try the Elf primer, love that brand
love the scientific method in this! so helpful to see different techniques compared side-by-side. thank you!!
Love that you compared all the “techniques”. Very insightful ❤️
Your eye makeup looks amazing all day too, the only problem is the rest of your makeup lasting as long
Thank you very much🙏🏼
I have been searching on somebody who shows the difference between concealer +translucent powder and primer
Love that ending, you're a HOOT :) You bring a smile amongst this chaotic world.
I do get the benefits of an actual eye primer but I don't have many options available to me so I use that instead
i really appreciate your videos, they're so useful. you deserve so much more!
i learn so much from all of your videos it's crazy. I watch every one of it and make sure to turn the bell on. Love you
Thank you for all the information. You're a rock star!!
Now HERE’S a good source! Edit: Please review the NYX primer, because my friend’s makeup lasts her through work outs.
For everyday use, I use the $2 elf primer. When I need eye shadow to pop more n I’m going somewhere I use either abh one u used or Mac paint pot
You are the best! Thank you very much for your videos. They make my life so much easier
Love this video!! As I've gotten older certain primers make my lids crepey. UD used to be my go to forever. Even the tiniest amount does it. I loooove the PLouise primer. I find it perfect for me! Even better than the ABH one.
I find this very useful! I've never seen any tutorial like this! Love it! Thanks ❤❤
I did not know it did THAT much difference. Thank you!
i’ve got really oily and hooded eyelids and the only thing that makes eyeshadow not crease is the bobbi brown cream shadow with a bit of powder. i’ve tried a few primers that didn’t work including the mac paint pot. its also very nice to see what happens when u use too much product bc sometimes my shadow doesn’t blend that well or i get those weird lines so i will definitely be making sure i don’t pack on too much
This just convinced me on buying a product I never even thought about buying lol always used a concealer but wasn’t completely satisfied so this might help!
ABH eye primer since Alexandra told me to try it some time ago and it is primazing. 😍
Ur vibe is amazing.....ur videos are satisfying to watch 😍🥰
😩 Thank you love 🙏🏼
you are so underrated!!!
Have been trying your hacks out and am so impressed with your ideas! Love the brow results. You gave me back even brows!!! Love the Anastasia primer but the single color is an issue. You are fabulous
Thank you Deb! ❤️
Love how informative this is! I’m definitely using my primer now and not being lazy about that step 💕
Thank you Alex. Lots of great tips!❤
Nyx ultra hd eye base is AMAZING for drugstore ❤️❤️❤️
Wow this is really helpful. Thank you for this video Alex!
🙌🏼❤️
Your videos are so incredibly helpful. I'm 41 and feel like I knew NOTHING prior to discovering you. 😂 Thank you so much!
Thank you that was very helpful ,the different testing was awesome to watch . I’ll give Anastasia a go .
I love this video ❤️ now I understand why when I put my concealer and eye shade on was so dry and Creepy.
I learn something new from every video LOVE IT
Ouhhhh yes another wonderful detailed well explained videooooo. Yesssssssss so helpful thanks Alex stay safe
"Can I use concealer?"
I mean, I understand the person meant if it would look good, but technically you can use whatever you want. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
I love your videos they’re so helpful 🤓
I liked the urban decay Eye primer the one that comes in a golden/bronze tone but they make a lighter version which I liked as well but I prefer a true to skin tone primer most days.
You read my mind! Can't wait to finish watching!

Love you Alexxx!!
