Video title: Do You Really Need Eye Primer?
Robert Welsh: *left the chat*
😂😂 I was thinking the exact same thing! I'm so glad that he's becoming more and more popular and people are starting to notice him! Whoever doesn't know him you should really check him, you won't regret!
also his brother, James! They are my holy grail of youtube, I just adore every single letter they pronounce)
@@Sashylin lol, thinking the same thing
😂😂😂😂same
The entire video i was thinking of him and what would be his reaction to this 😂😂😂😂
@@lucymark9300 WE NEED HIS REACTION TO THIS VIDEO, STAT
The answer for me is YES. My eyelids are so oily I am surprised the U.S. military hasn’t invaded them.
My recommendation: NARS Smudge Proof Eye Shadow Base
any drugstore recommendation?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣👍
I recently bought it after your recommendation and it’s AMAZING! Thank you thank you thank you!!! My blue eyeshadow finally stays all day long without getting patchy or greasy. I add a bit of translucent powder on top of it works great.
@@yangtu2 yes! I recently just found Wet N Wild Photofocus eye primer. It’s in a black and white tube. I find it applies best with the fingers and only use a little bit.
yes! i’m learning the ways of makeup and eyeshadow and i never really saw the point in a eye primer until i saw this 😩 you really put everything into perspective!
So glad it’s helped babe 😘❤️
I think u need to try asmr , your voice is so relaxing
😂 I get that a lot
Please🙏
Lynette Scribner that’s the tingles making your back hairs go up
Yes omg! I kept on almost sleeping whenever I have her video on the background while I work
That's silly
If I don't use MAC Paint Pot, I will have absolutely no eyeshadow on by the end of my work day. Thank you for this video... very informative and beautifully laid out for anyone to understand. You have a gift, my friend.
I like how you go about proving your point by comparing the options. Now I truly believe on the power of primer. With whole the mask thing, having great makeup is the only way to go. And my eyeliner definitely lasts longer with primer.
Agree, if people are only gonna see my eyes now (my best feature I've been told) might as well have great make-up. Love these vids
I wear more high end, but I love me some good drugstore too. Milani's eyeprimer is SUPER dope!! Love the vid!!!
Been looking at that Milani one, what type of skin would you say you have on your lids?
@@serenadingsiren6659 it’s a bit late but I also use Milani’s and my lids are more on the oily side, and I really like it!
So I started binge watching your videos on a work night until 5 am. Now that I'm done with work, I'm back lol. Just allow me to say thank you so much for this video and for your dedication to really teach us. Most makeup artists will take in "theories" or "opinions". The good ones might compare one scenario to another and that's it. I've never seen anyone who continues to remove her eye makeup to show us 5-6 scenarios! Not to mention I can relate to all the patchiness and the muddiness that happens on my lids. So thank you. And you're beautiful. And you don't need any make up. But if you like it then go ahead. Why am I still typing? ok bye.
I love the way you talk. It's super refreshing to find a mua that doesn't semi-yell or have an insanely shrill Californian accent lol
i’ve got really oily and hooded eyelids and the only thing that makes eyeshadow not crease is the bobbi brown cream shadow with a bit of powder. i’ve tried a few primers that didn’t work including the mac paint pot. its also very nice to see what happens when u use too much product bc sometimes my shadow doesn’t blend that well or i get those weird lines so i will definitely be making sure i don’t pack on too much
Can you please do a makeup video for those of us who wear glasses. Please! Thank you so much. Love your videos!!
I use the Maybelline FitMe Concealer on my eyelids and it works just fine. I do get the benefits of an actual eye primer but I don't have many options available to me so I use that instead
The only beauty guru I rely up on❤️❤️
Thank you! This is awesome! I love that you do these types of experiments on camera. It’s super helpful!🤓
i ALWAYS wondered why i got that line right near my crease where shadow wouldn’t place and now i know. damn lmao this is was super informational ilysm thank you. you honestly deserve SO much more recognition for your channel. i’ve always wondered why you don’t have millions of followers already. this is the only beauty channel that matters imo 😂
OMG this video is so helpful! Thank you so much for explaining these, I was so confused and now I understand. You're amazing thank you! 😘
Thank you very much🙏🏼
I have been searching on somebody who shows the difference between concealer +translucent powder and primer
i really appreciate your videos, they're so useful. you deserve so much more!
definitely gonna try the Elf primer, love that brand
love the scientific method in this! so helpful to see different techniques compared side-by-side. thank you!!
I find this very useful! I've never seen any tutorial like this! Love it! Thanks ❤❤
Well, this is the best and clearest and in depth and most educational video about primers that I've ever seen in my life! Period!! You really surprise me everytime I watch you, you are one step ahead in explaining stuff that's for sure! Thank you very much for all the things you teach me!💖💖💖
@Flower Petal yes actually I already follow him and love him too, but Alex in this video went really in depth and tried a lot of different things on her eyes to show us, so I really appreciated that.
Love that you compared all the “techniques”. Very insightful ❤️
Love this video!! As I've gotten older certain primers make my lids crepey. UD used to be my go to forever. Even the tiniest amount does it. I loooove the PLouise primer. I find it perfect for me! Even better than the ABH one.
Love how informative this is! I’m definitely using my primer now and not being lazy about that step 💕
You are my new Makeup Ellen
I'm 55 I've never used a primer and don't have a line a good moisturizer and let it set in I use the same green concealer on my eye it doesn't budge
You are Super Super Super helpful ❤️
because i don't do much eyeshadow anymore, i mainly stick with concealer and set it with translucent powder. it has always worked for me, i don't understand how people can blend with an unset base. i have tried it so many times but it always gets my brush wet and doesn't blend. i pack and then do circles, pack and then side to side, i pack and continue to pack, and i don't even use a lot. i literally use the absolute tiniest amount and let it " dry down " a little bit. but absolutely no work. matte concealer too.
This is helpful. I use concealer to define brows and use eye shadow primer just on my crease.
You should do a rainbow series
Video uploaded : 00.01 a.m.
Love you Alexxx!!
You are amazing!
Ive learnt so much from u in two vids!!! Subscribeddd!!
Primer- kokie has a good one Prep Up
I use the urban decay eyeshadow primer potion. Or I do shape tape . 🔅
She knows her stuff
Such a good video!! Thank you for sharing 👏🏻👏🏻💕
I 💙 the P. Louise...and I use color 0 Rumour. Works REALLY well for me! It was kinda eerie because I was sitting here deciding if I wanted to put on primer with my shadow today just to run NOWHERE for less than five minutes and then .....................💥BOOM💥 your video popped up! So primer it is! I mean, why TF not?!?
Thanks for sharing your tips. I always learn something from your videos. Stay safe!
This was good. Very helpful 👌
I use a clear eye shadow primer
I’d like to see a review of the Mac Paint Pot Primer please? I am thinking of purchasing it, and I keep hearing how multi-use they are. I would like to see what you think about it. Thx. Great detailed video, per usual.
It's almost like looking at Annie Lennox or the Roxette singer!! 🎶 🧑🎤 🎤
I lot Mac paint pot! It was my first eyeshadow primer.
I recomend you the eye primer from Colorina. Its made in Puerto Rico. You can finf it online. The producrs are great and good prices.
I'm in Puerto Rico. I'll definitely check it out when life gets back to normal... Crazy strict quarantine/rules right now.
I have the too faced shadow insurance primer for special occasions and such.
Great video!
This was very interesting!! Thanks Alex!! I just subscribed!!
I use Milani eyeshadow primer. Have you ever tried that? The only other things I’ve used are my shape tape with translucent powder and the Urban Decay primer potion. I didn’t like the Urban Decay.
Lovely, enjoyable and informative as always.
I really love urban decay eye primer in eden not the clear one. robert welsh swears by it it’s good
Awesome video
That ABH goes a long way!
Elf Camouflage concealer has been REFORMULATED. It’s considered by many as a dupe to tarte shape tape.
Would like to know your opinion on the p.louise eyeshadow base 🙂
Have you ever tried the milani one? If so what r ur thoughts on that one?
Can you try the p.louise primer I think that’s how you spell it
First comment!!!! I love you Alex!!!
😭❤️❤️❤️
The too much concealer side almost looks darker, like a wet eyeshadow would.
What's the best primer to use?
Can you also use the dupe for the Tarte one and would it be the same for someone with oily eyelids as well? The elf camo concealer
This was really helpful
Hay i want to ask what do you use for your teeth the look amazing 🤩???
Love your info...but do you ever set your abh primer, or any primer with powder? That’s what I wanna seeeeeee 👀👁🤩
P Louise is amazing as a primer
I use p louise :D used to use morphe for a little bit but after that one has sat unused for a month it separated and started stinking :(
Great information
can you use concealer first to even out the tone and then use primer over top?
i really love your videos, they are so informative! Finally a really good youtuber who also has dark circles and tiny wrinkles under the eyes *-* Its just a bit weird to watch a youtube video without background music ^^ Maybe your videos will be a bit better with music :))) (of course I will continue to watch your videos even if you wont put music in it xD)
Sayuri Neko, I appreciate that Alex has no background music.
I can actually hear all that she says. Her voice is calming to listen to with no distractions.
I like the fact that there is no distracting music in the background.
Can i use face primer on eyes??
Fenty🤗
You look like a female version of Johnny Depp. So good-looking. 😍
Don't forget to leave your eye primer recommendationsssssssss k thanksss
Alexandra Anele I really like the plouise base. I have freckles all over my face (on my eyelids too) and it covers them so my eyeshadow doesn’t look patchy anymore. The shade range is nice as well ☺️
Alexandra Anele have you tried the eye primer from Makeup Revolution I’ve heard good things and it’s not very expensive?
The urban decay eyeshadow primer potion anti-aging. I have oily lids and hooded eyes. My shadow lasts all day and i find the eyeshadows easy to blend on the primer. I don’t like the original UD primer potion, doesn’t preform as well.
lately i've been really loving the p louise base 🥰 it holds onto pigment so nicely and i honestly don't think i've ever been able to blend my eyeshadow as easily as i do with this primer, it's amazing! btw great video, i loved it 💗
P Louise base! a game changer
Me: *uses concealer for my eyeshadows*
Alexandra: *compares concealer to primer*
Me: ... I have now seen the error of my ways
😂
Sammmeeee i have super dark circles and funky textured eye lids so i smack on the concealer and bone coloured eyeshadow 🤣with saying that I've never bought good quality makeup.. im so excited to say that this week i ordered my first expensive concealer and foundation :D cant wait for mytoo faced born thia way and tarte shape tape concealer to arrive.now im going to buy an eye primer lol
kelly7117 wooo! Go girl! 🙌🏼
@@thekey207 I use concealer and translucent powder. I tried an eye primer and I hate it. It doesn't blend. It doesn't cover the darkness and it's too thick. I will have to try some more drugstore eye primers.
@@marleyhill34 i love the wet n wild one! i use it almost interchangeably w the urban decay, but the wnw is more tacky.

I always appreciate when u do 2 eyes to prove point. It makes total sense to see it for the visual learners 👍
Idk about anyone else, but I absolutely LOVE the look of natural nails! 😍
MarieMae Beauty finally i feel pretty right now 😅
M S this might seem like A silly recommendation, but I have natural long nails and know the struggle very well LOL! Get yourself a nail brush or a soft toothbrush. Use that to scrub the inside of your nails gently. I mean the underside of your nails! You can also use a very light layer of clear builder gel and curate under a cheap LED light. And it’s like gel but super easy to use and just gives a thin layer of strength. 💛
That’s what I thought!
@M S That's rather disturbing...you use your hands when cooking and don't want to clean your nails? Unhygienic!!
You should be cleaning extra well BEFORE you mix with your hands. Use a b
Nail brush.
I like the short nails. Very clean and you have nice hands. I can really concentrate on technique instead of watching how you work around the nail thing. Your teaching techniques are the best, Thank you. I definitely look better because of you.
I learn so much from you. Thank you for helping my makeup game. 😙
😩 So glad these videos help ❤️
"unless you have RIDICULOUSLY dry eyelids..."
it's me, I'm the one with the dry flakey lids!!!
I have NO OIL on my body! I need a creamy eye primer. Any suggestions. I have mature dry eyelids.
@@goldie4245 I know I'm late but I have oily dehydrated skin (so I need both types depending on my skin that day). I would suggest the NYX Proof it (it's clear and slightly tacky, not drying) or the Revolution Super Base (it's new in a black packaging but it is very fair like this ABH one and is very thin and doesn't dry out my lids). The other one would be Tarte Creamy Shape Tape. I hated the OG, but this version is super hydrating for lids and under eyes. Perhaps even the new KVD Good Apple Concealer. It has a super SUPER thin consistency and when I reviewed it (granted on my under eyes) it was SO thin yet FULL coverage and a natural finish so that one might be good for texture as you barely notice any product and would barely need any of those 2 concealers. I prefer primers over concealers but for super dry lids that mine can get at times then I need the extra hydration that concealer provides. Sorry for the rant but wanted to be specific 😊
Me: I not wearing makeup today
5 minutes into your video. Bust out my HUGE collection of makeup and start going in.
Omg same
Yep
Love this comment!😂
I love Alex! I had the honor of meeting her by chance. What you see is what you get 💯.
I use the Nars Pro-Prime base. It’s smooth and does an insane job. I have pretty hooded eyes and super oily lids but no creasing even after a 12-hour work day.
Also thank you so much for your content it has helped me a lot.
My all time favorite eye primer, Tati swears by it too, is the Wet N Wild Eyeshadow Primer. Super dope for someone with oily lids and also it sets and dries down on its own!
Madi K is it good for oily eyelids?
Nikole A. Yes! That is the reason I use it! Seriously so awesome.
Nikole A. Yes! That is the reason I use it! Seriously so awesome.
Madi K thanks sis!
Madi K im so happy to be reading this because I totally copped it blindly and i’m quite oily!
can you test different eyeshadow primers against each other for drug store and high-end like you’ve been doing for concealer?
Good eye primers from the drugstore: Milani, Wet n Wild, ProFusion.
High end: Sigma, Anastasia, Esum mixing medium (doubles as a primer and will make your shadows waterproof), Kevin Aucoin, Bobby Brown.
Thank you for a very informative video. I've been using MAC Painterly, I also cover with a bit of setting powder as well which helps blend out smoother for me. I'm 67 years old so wrinkles and hooded eye lid needs all the help it can get.
I mean, I do makeup, and the information is highly helpful but I have to admit that I watch your videos because I love hearing you talk. Your voice is somewhat soothing and it sounds very therapeutic to my ears.
Same and I don't even do makeup
SAAAMMMMEEE
praying for your eyelid skin 😭
😂🙏🏼
"Can I use concealer?"
I mean, I understand the person meant if it would look good, but technically you can use whatever you want. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
Elf has two different 16 hr. "camo" concealers, matte and hydrating. I use the matte one (black cap) in 1-2 shades lighter, shadow blends great. Works like a charm!
Yes! I use the hydrating one because I have very dry eyes and it sets my eyeshadow much better than the elf eye primer does.
Yes! The hydrating concealer is perfect for my under eyes and the matte concealer is good for my lids. Weird
I'm going to get an eyeshadow primer once quarantine is over🤗 thank you
I love how the description says (1 year ago) and we are still in quarantine
I love eden primer potion I’m super oily so that’s one that has always worked. NARS has one that works amazingly but it’s a clear primer so you can still see my veins under the eyeshadow lol
I use a brush to put on primer. The primer I use is NYX Proof it waterproof eyeshadow primer and it doesn't look like the texture in the video. NYX Proof it sorta blends into the skin then I put white concealer on for when I'm using colors like yellows because I'm black. Anyway my question is, should I get a different primer because I feel like it doesn't do anything for my eyeshadow
Put concealer under the eye primer in very small amounts. I hate the eye primer I have it doesn't cancel out any darkness, it doesn't blend and it can get cakey real quick. What it dies do is stop creasing dead in its tracks if you don't set the concealer, the oil from the concealer breaks down your eyeshadow or it just let's you natural lid oil through. The eye primer or translucent powder is blocking the oil. A normal eyeshadow or normal powder is not designed to block oil or moisture.
Try a white eyeshadow powder instead of white concealer. Or I think Mac (paint point?) and Nyx do a white eyeshadow base. I think the primer is OK at stopping creasing of the shadow but yes if you need colours to pop then it's a pigment problem.
Oh Alexandra! I suck at doing eye makeup SO MUCH I feel like crying 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I love how you showed us all diff ways ppl could be doing it I love ur vids very good I’m like how she gonna take about eye primer for like 15 mins ? But I legit watch the WHOLE THING ur very interesting
Yes, very helpful! Thank you! I was doing the concealer with a setting powder bc the concealer tended to crease but it does help with blending! I always find that when I use eyeshadow primer I get skipping of the color on the lid. 🤷♀️
Okay, now I'm definitely buying a primer 🤣🤣
I got my first Paint Pot a week ago and I’ve already ordered another one! I have 47yro, oily ass lids and it has changed the game for me!
If that’s you in your picture then you do not look 47 years old
2:20
Eyeshadow primer different from concealer
8:08
Primer looks better
The way you explain things is on point everytime. I also have very very dark dark circles eeeeee and after seeing your videos it has really helped me to start loving about how I look. I would love to see your video on how to hold brushes and use them while doing make-up, it would be really helpful again, thankssss
Omg she is a makeup nerddd..i love her❤❤❤
