January 1, 2000. The first day of the new millennium.
It was a homecoming show for Slipknot, and as Corey & myself sat at his grandma Thelma's house waiting to leave for the show that night, we played each other music that we had separately been working on. These were songs that he had written outside of Slipknot, and songs that I had recorded at home on a 4 track. After we listened to all of the tracks, we decided that we needed to record these songs at SR Studios in Des Moines during his time off from touring. These sessions took place over the next year and became the Project X/SuperEgo demo.
Most of the songs from those sessions ended up on the first Stone Sour album. The goal was not to have any musical boundaries; to play whatever we wanted regardless of what people might think.
Here is the first version of Get Inside, the song that started it all.

@@mistermind7946 It's kinda a joke, but basically he has a very big neck so naturally his vocal chords are wider and the extra muscles aswell allow him to produce insane projection without much technique required
Use too*** after the years you can tell when there live his voice always cracks in softer SS songs they do especially there older stuff or he has the crowds start singing when he feels it
Please, oh please give us a duet with Howard Jones, Corey.

I'd be so happy to hear Corey perform anything from the 1994/1996 stone sour eras, but I don't think he thinks too highly of his vocal choices or writing back then.

Wow, I love this version. The drums and guitar are so raw. Corey's voice has a dark and visceral sound to it, too. Can't beat it.

honestly this album in general sounds more similar to the old school slipknot than slipknot's newer albums. or it could be just me. lol

Get Inside.. takes me back to the time I learnt this entire album word for word, so I was ready for their first UK tour as a band. Saw them in a small venue in London 2003.. I remember Corey tearing up a Gareth Gates poster half way through ‘Bother’ then pulling a moonie. What happened to them days?!..
I remember those days but it wouldn't be until 2006 for me to see the band live. November '06 and March '07, the two times I saw SS at the Astoria. Absolute magic!

1985year exactly where I saw them.. Astoria. Such a good place, literally touching distance from the band. At least you’ve seen them live, this album will always mean more to me than their other releases.
PsychoMoFoGaming I didn’t mean them personally.. just those times. The early 00s were such a good decade, metal became its own.

For me one of the best songs from the band ever... either this version or the album one, LOVE IT.
(commenting on the description) that's why Stone Sour, alongside with Metallica and Dream Theater are my favorite bands of all time. Bands that push boundaries of their own genre, looking for no limits or restrictions on what/how to write music. This leads to having songs like St. Marie/Rose Red Violet Blue and songs like whiplash pants/fabuless on the same freaking album. Keep being this non stop font of awesomeness, SS 🤘

@@coldguto I mean don't get me wrong, there is plenty to be said for finding your bands signature sound, honing it and making it your own unique flavor. Going with what works in the beginning. The old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" motto. However the mark of true talent, is once you find that sound and master it, learning to then evolve it and manipulate it. So keep the roots but still allow for growth.

You can hear in his screams he wasn't very happy at the time, that is why Corey from 1998-2002 was a fucking beast. Sounds older and angrier than today, 20 years ago.
Well he wasn't singing properly in that time period either that's why he shot his voice during the Iowa cycle
I'd rather my favourite vocalist being happier than having a slightly better voice. He also fucked up his voice screaming like he did before changing for vol 3 and onwards

The first time i heard about Stone Sour was in a "mix cd" and the song was "choose". I ve already was hooked with Slipknot but didnt knew Corey was singing in another band so as soon as i could i bought the Deluxe self title Stone Sour album and just like Slipknot self title it blew my mind.

These demos are great. Its a totally different sorta sound but I hope one day you guys release some of those crazy under appreciated Stone Sour songs from the 90's like Super Skin or Maybe When I Die I'll Meet Elvis or more obscure ones like Spontaneous Combustion, Benefactor, Shaman's Fetish, Dead Man's Glare, Mother's Ghost (heavy version). I really like that older stuff, that's what made Stone Sour my favorite band. I'm dyin' to know if Corey can still hit the high notes in "I Can't Believe". Rock on dude'z :)
im sure corey could still hit those notes. just listen to nero forte, thats got some pretty high vocals. also love gun has crazy high pitch and vibrato in one part of the song
