Sword Art Online Alicization Episode 1 was fantastic at adapting the source material. Can't wait to see future scenes animated. Ready for Sword Art Online Alicization Episode 2 Review?

Author (Reki Kawahara) was writing SAO for a competition. But SAO was too long for the competetion requirements so he had to cut A LOT. But still he wasn't able to cut enough. Later on he wrote Accel World which is much shorter and won the competetion.
So the extremly cutted version of SAO is what we know today.
And now we have another main arc about The Underworld which is now 11 novels long.
Imagine SAO Aincrad 10 novels long (50 episodes) that's what fans want, that's what everybody wanted to see.
I am not here to defend SAO. I am just pointing facts.
Me personally? I love SAO and I am aware of all "mistakes", plot holes etc.
If you like it, ok. If you hate it, still ok. That's your oppinion, that's what you like and I respect it.
Nothing is perfect. All great shows have problems.
I think becouse SAO is so hated the problems are much more "greater" than in other shows. If people talk about it, people are aware of it.

About "the title", everything was already created before. It's not stealing, maybe inspiration but that's just a speculation.
And yes I think SAO anime adaptation is much worste than the already cutted novels.
Also SAO was written before popular MMORPGs like WoW came out. So you can't expect from SAO to be like WoW.
it's not entirely correct, the first drafts of the webnovel (it was on kawahara's blog before getting a paper release, i was there at the time, one of the first things i've read in japanese actually :) but i degress) has pretty much the same content, it was partially shorten, yes but it's not like it was a floor by floor adventure (like the progressive series is).
the story is by no means perfect but the hate (different from simple dislike, which everyone is entitled to) comes from anime only viewers (oversea's, because in japan it always had good ratings). the first arcs of the novel are indeed not anime friendly, and the story ended up with a bad adaptation. tho, i have to say "those haters" have got no critic sense, because the following season (ggo and on) was a much better adaptation all around with character development and audio-visual delight, but haters discarded it for "not being sao" (and it makes no sense). now people hate it because "it's the first arc all over again". this tells me those people just hate because it's cool to hate sao.... for me this is just trend, it's not an objective view.

I have the same opinions.
The only people who writes reviews are usually haters who (as you said) have no critic sance. We can talk about it for eternity but haters won't accept us (as they would say we are just "SAO lovers" who thinks SAO is perfect - It's not).
(Reminds me of now new Sony-Marvel movie Venom. "Professional critics" are able to give 12/100 just becouse there's no Spiderman. Which is complete bullshit and they have zero knowladge about Marvel. Also nobody ever gives points for sound, music, visuals, cameras etc. I would give Venom 8.5-8.8 points. But not a 6/10 like this pros on metacritics)
Oh and also the very first version of SAO has more chapters on different floors. It's longer. Yes it's not floor by floor but there are more bosses or even field bosses chapters, more character development etc.
Also the cut on 75th floor was not intended. But since Reki Kawahara realised that it's already to long he decided to cut it on 75th floor. It should have been to floor 100.
I am not sure about this one:
HeathcliFF was created for the 75th floor cut. He shouldn't been in the 100th floor version (don't confuse this with games, games are non-canon).

There are LOGICAL reviews and explenations for SAO. Not on YT. Mother's Basement and similar channels are doing it for views. Almost everything they ever said about SAO was debunked many times.
People look... It depends on Japan if anime will or not be succesful. You can hate SAO, but Japan loves it. And all anime series gets most of their earns in Japan.
SAO will be there and will continue. Bandai doesn't care about other countries and they will produce more SAO related content.

The only thing missing/changed, i believe is 4 part. most changing maybe the 4th.
*First* : No Sacred Task except their woodcutting one, was described. Alice and Eugne background and Sacred Tasks was cut, but probably will be explained in Ep2.
*2nd* : Food/Ice spoil timer/durability was not explained too much. but not that important. it's just looking like a Game, for example a sandwich is Fresh, until Durability/spoil timer reach 0, then suddenly will spoil.
or Ice they pick from the cave wont melt until durability get almost zero.
*3rd* : The explanation from Kirito in Agil's shop was more and he talked about A.I as well. but i think the 10min talk was already a lot and they didn't want to explain 5min more !
*4th* : the Scene with Johnny where Kirito get Stabbed is changed a bit.
In novel, Kirito tell Asuna to run back and bring help while he stall time with umbrella,
She run and yell for help while thinking maybe she should go back and attack him together,
Johnny yell call her Flash and tell her to tell everyone he finally killed Black Swordman.
Then she hear a high pressured Syringe sound and turn back to look and see Kirito and Johnny felling down with Syringe in Kirito's left shoulder and Umbrella in Johnny's tight.
She call ambulance and ppl and police also gather since they heard her yell for help.

It kinda deserves the hate in some regards because many did actually like the show before, should have ended on episode 14 imo, but this season seems fairly good, interesting concept but held back by the previous arc and it's relation to Kirito makes it bland and boring, good first episode hoping more of Eugeo and less of Kirito.

The Mother's Rosario arc is so special to me and is by far my favorite arc of SAO, so it's hard for me to imagine anything topping it for me........ but if this does, then wow, it'll be quite impressive (and I'll be sad to have to knock MR down lol). Looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Im going to be clear, i hated a lot of SAO, but after seeing this episode it got me thinking. About why i didnt like about the other seasons(kirito having a freaking harem while in relationship with asuna). But for now im impressed for what im seeing. I really hope to enjoy this

The LN goes for over 9 books with what essentially constitutes as two arcs spanning two 24ep seasons, and it keeps getting better and with a lot of new characters.

The Alicization arc has ended already in the Light Novels. Also the arc is 10 volumes long. The prologue for the final arc is out and people speculate the final arc will be what bridges SAO and Accel World together. Btw, have you played Accel World vs Sword Art Online? It's a great experience for Accel World and Sword Art Online fans and I highly recommend any AW fan to it.

hey, just want to confirm things. The last volume I read was volume 16 and that's the 7th volume of Alicization arc. So if this arc is 10 volumes long then volume 18 is the last. I did have the english translated pdf of volume 17 (but haven't read it yet). Does volume 18 have a complete english translation yet? thanks~

There is 20 volumes out now. Alicization main story arc ends at 18. 19 and 20 are sidestories of Alicization
I agree, I think you'll see the hate train slow to a crawl. There's always gonna be hate, but I've seen much more love for the series lately.
I watch and hate the series but this, so far seems very good. Having a 50 min first episode really shows how much A1 is putting for this.

Screen goes black&white and a red [YOU DIED] sign shows up.
Sao didn't create this genre .Hack//Sign created it and it hasn't been done as good since, really surprised to hear that from you Chibi if you havent watched it do it now.
.Hack focused on the world building aspect, SAO kinda did that at the beginning but deviated, but this season looks like it really brings the world building back, just wish the real world sections didn't exist those are boring.
.hack sign wasn't even that good. If anything boring. .hack roots is better though. But the games are even better
Fun fact .Hack and the initial version of the Aincrad arc of SAO were created and published pretty much at the same time. (though the creation period for .hack was naturally longer)

The Alicization arc is 10 books long. That is 2 books longer than everything else that happened previously in SAO. It is a monster and by far the best of the arcs.
Alicization is also by far the darkest of the arcs in SAO. At times it feels more like Re: Zero with the amount of suffering that characters go through.
The first two seasons are absolute ass but...

For the duration that I watch it I am extremely irritated by his existence in that world and it's a pain to watch. In my opinion. Being reset all the time and being tortured is not fun. The point of Re:Zero is to show what would happen if a normal person like you and me was to be thrown into a fantasy world, surrounded by demons, monsters and superhumans. Basically it shows how, despite his weakness, he can survive by repeating over and over and improving. SLight spoiler, by Arc 4 (well, even 3) he actually can stand up to people from the fantasy world as he has improved, and also he takes less stupid choices. Really, it's a story of how Subaru gets from a NEET to a hero, but it doesn't just happen, he has to work (and suffer) for it.

Haven't you read sao progressive the it's a retelling of sao 1 but better and the creator said progressive is canon witch is a big slap in sao season 1s face I reccomend it and Alicization can't wait for the progressive of season 2.

Klien and everyone else pretty much had the same avatar from aincrad. The point that was suppose to be made was that all the characters from Aincrad looks very similar to their old avatars when transferred over to GGO since Aincrad was the "seed" of all VR games. If you remember from the first season, their avatars were pretty much their Irl models. Other VR games pretty much followed the basic mechanics of Aincraid with a few tweaks and Aincrad served as a cloud for data for their avatars. Thats why Shinon looks very distinct from her actual physical form since she never participated in Aincrad. Aincrad was the only game that made them use their irl as their character models so if you didnt transfer it to the new games, you pretty much had a different look from your irl self in other games. But as for kirito being a girl, I believe that he didnt want to use the same avatar as Aincrad and wanted to start anew and fresh look since he didnt want to be suspicious or noticed by "death gun".
They wouldnt transfer over as that would kill thier data from Elf game and Kirito specifically ported his Aincrad character over as he needed the stats to compete in GGO.
Good to see someone else like me, I absolutely love SAO and it being the anime that got me into the stuff I admire it. It's interesting, the characters and well designed, music is fantastic like always and the animation is great and this new season looks to blow all that out the water, can't wait to see the rest of it
Personally, I ABSOLUTELY love the first half of the first season(when they are actually in SAO) the 2nd half was poor(with the fairies) and then the 1st half of season 2(gungale) was just purely cringe-worthy, and I quit after that it was too cringe. I hear good things about the 2nd half of season 2 and this new season, but I'm waiting on watching it because for me to be able to get back into it I'd have to rewatch from the beginning and I would have to be SURE that this season is WELL worth going through that cringe in gungale especially. I'd be open to it but only after the season finishes and I hear tons of good things and basically nothing bad, they have to make up a lot for me to come back. I prefer to binge watch anyways.
@Aung Zeya If I don't need to watch the previous seasons then that just makes me not want to watch the new season at all. The whole bromance thing makes me want to watch it even less so.

Just going to say this now, SAO does not know how to do exposition. Half the episode is exposition dump in a cafe. After what Attack on Titan did (dumping 30 chapters of exposition in a basement in the first 3 episodes while cutting Levi action into it), no anime has an excuse for shitty exposition dumps in a cafe.

You are right it doesn't do exposition very well, but at least it doesn't bog down good scenes with exposition. This arc should go, Story scenes --> exposition dump to explain what the hell just happened -> story scenes. Black mark on the story telling side of things, but splits it up so that the boring exposition is boring and the interesting parts are interesting and uninterrupted. Some anime have done it better and some have done it worse. I'll take the happy medium and note the bad parts as bad.

Or better yet, write a story that doesn't need exposition, a.k.a. is well-written.
The exposition is necessary and it doesn't make any sense to force it into action scenes, just think about it "Well we are in mid fight but lets debate about the truth of the human conscious and possibly Soul and let me explain what the people at Rath think about it".
This season is what gets me to watch sao in the first place , I never regretted that decision

Hey chibi volume 18 ended the arc. But he did say there will be a new arc. The anime will adapt all volume with the arc. That why there will be 50 episodes total.
I dont think they post it. I saw it when some post it on FB when the ARC ended. The last page say, Kirito will be back. after that idk. the only thing I know is there is 18 Volumes and the author will start new ARC but IDK when. I LOVE SAO XD
This arc is at least volumes 9-16. The same length of the first eight volumes/seasons, which is why it will be four cours. Will be the length of the first two seasons combine. Get ready for a full year of SAO!

I waited for this chapter of SAO to be animated for so long. After a long endurance of negative comments about the whole series and people creating money by mocking the anime. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I hope this season ends their endless rants since it is looking so promising.
Well, when you think this way: for a new viewer of SAO, you have to grind 48 eps which was suck just to get to the 3rd season ...
Now, I can say SAO is still suck even if season 3 is masterpiece.
i am the guy in my internetcommunity who always says not to hate the series as its all things considered mediocre(i myself consider arc2,arc4 and the last half hour of the movie to be really bad,but i like arc1 and 5 and the rest of the movie),but i gotta say that i dont enjoy this arc until now. i have watched the first three episodes and if it keeps up that way,i will like this arc the least as it just passively bores me at best(exception being the small childarc at the beginning.i adore that one,because it felt like a enjoyable characterdriven story.i just wish it wasnt that short)
I get the feeling that if this show has gain it's redemption on the first 2 seasons and it's actually a good show, those haters (especially the famous Anitubers) will still hate it because it has proven that you can't love something that you hate so much. (Well in some cases you can but it's really rare)

.hack's anime was made from .hack game ! and the game released along with SAO in 2003 !
so none of them were before the other i guess lol. both were first to have such a concept.
SAO is mostly about the ever increasing use and technology of VR than about just VRGaming.

Is this better than previous SAO? (Excluding the alternative one) Yes. Does it still have boring exposition scenes at tables? Absolutely. I mean, it's a staple at this point.

I liked the first half of SAO but everything with Yui just ruins it for me, she’s just so annoying
I really liked the first 12 Episodes (I still enjoyed the rest) but when Yui appeared & Asuna and Kirito did their Family thing I got a bid dissapointed since I liked Kirito as a Solo Player
@@Saiiyne Tbh to me Asuna was not the best pairing they could've done. She just remained static throughout the series. She was the "perfect" heroine in every situation. Never had any faults besides her suicidal tendencies in the FIRST episode of the show. Honestly they tried to give her some development in Mother's Rosario but ended up giving her mother the development. I realize this went away from my point but Asuna is just a stale character to me.

@@Accune I didn't either. Still don't. I mean, it seems as if they've gotten over him. Hopefully because they've been chasing him for 3years. Tbh I would've preferred that the pairing would be more compatible with each other.
The only thing that annoyed me was the long exposition dump in the cafe, but the first half was rather interesting. Looking forward to seeing more of Eugeo and Alice, they seem to be much more than just additional members of Kirito's harem haha
SAO is bad. That is pretty much a fact. Its flaws outweigh its strengths, and it is just not well executed. That does not mean it is not enjoyable to watch
If you think SAO is a masterpiece, watch SAO Abridged (on youtube) and come back to me
Abridge is a good comedy, SAO was good for the first 14 epsidoes, everything after was bullshit, last arc of season 2 introduced some nice character arcs but nothing special, season 3 seems to be different than the two, introducing a far better plot and concept than the previous, my only disdain is that it's still related to the previous arc,if only Kirito wasn't the MC.

I specifically said you can still enjoy it, implying that enjoyability is subjective. taste is subjective. I just say that it is bad overall. You might actually appreciate its qualities enough that it outweighs the flaws, it did for me when I was just getting into anime.
@@The_DGO I don't think you understood what I meant. What you perceive as bad, can be viewed as a neutral or good to others. You're saying as if *everyone* thinks SAO is bad but some enjoy it nonetheless, you're wrong. Some people may not identify what you think is a flaw.
As a person that has never been a fan of season 1 and 2, this arc interests me greatly. Even though im 6 months late, i really hope im not over-reaching for expecting as much as i do out of it right now

And I thought I was the only sane one when it comes to SAO. Yeah, there's some major flaws about it but it's not that bad. People are calling it " The worst anime of all time" and I don't know if they're serious or not but there's some shows that are way worse than SAO to call "worst anime of all time".
@@dominiquesavoie568 Don't think that's the only reason people hate Sao. MC and plot are pretty bad. Plus the plot armor. There are better power fantasies, but this gets all the attention. While to good ones only get 12 eps with crappy animation.
Personally I think the haters of SAO season 1 was mostly because the series started as a boy trapped in a video game then suddenly switched to a dramatic romance and the game aspect was really secondary to the main story. Was it bad? No just not what some people wanted, so they cried about it.
Minor corrections: The Alicization arc goes from volume 9 to volume 18 so a total of 9 volumes.
Also, the author said that Accel World and SAO are set in different worlds although they have quite a few similarities and there is also a crossover story. I think at some point in Accel World it even mentions the Nerv Gear but the author still says they are separate universes.
But, from volume 9 to volume 18 is a total of 10 volumes, not 9.

As a fan of the Alicization light novel... Seeing this first episode was very impressive.... I loved how they gave clarification on some stuff that was kind of glossed over in the light novel as well! I really hope the studio keeps this up as I love this arc a lot!!!!! But so far so good with the adaptation
This is going to be the best arc of the whole series HYPE INTENSIFIES, 10 volumes of materials for solid development

It’s amazing how Sword Art Online is animated/produced by A-1 Pictures, who also does Fairy Tail, yet SAO looks like a million bucks with perfectly fluid animation, while FT is just a bunch of stiffly moving picture stills.
SAO Aincrad Arc was Vol 1-2, Alfheim was Vol 3-4, GGO was 5-6. Mother's Rosario Vol 7, Excalibur and weird aincrad murder mystery were Vol 8.
ALICIZATION IS VOLUME 9 THRU 18. And volume 19 was another side mini arc within Alicization (IIRC). So this arc comprises of more than half of the "Sword Art Online" series. 52 episodes is a lot, but may still not be enough to show everything that happens in the story.
Volumes 19-20 is the Moon Cradle side story.
i remember seeing a newspaper clipping in accel world that linked it too the sao event around the time of me just finishing sao and when i was very new to anime and it simply blew my mind.

At the end of the episode kirito gets hit with the poison gun, but didn’t he say earlier that he has a emitter in his shoulder for the app for Asuna, so in a way isn’t this the same of how when kirito got hit with the gun when defending Sinon?
I was one of those who always made fun of SAO but this episode was something else, IDK who the writer is but he really stepped up his game!!

Just a THEORY BUT:
remember kirito works/helps out with checking out company games. That’s what SAO II was about remember. 1st episode of SAO ll kikouka of the virtual Division at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications summoned kirito to investigate bizarre murders linked to GGO. Kirito is most likely still helping dude out with that. He even hints that by saying in Alicization I’m going abroad to check these game developers out something doesn’t seem right. Which is a mystery behind this episode BC again Kirito is losing weight, he can’t remember stuff from the game, and he’s always sleepy. Also that game is like a hyperbolic time chamber 1hr in there is like 5 minutes in real life. With that hyperbolic chamber game people can’t remember what happened inside the game, and they’re losing weight. To me that sounds like trouble. It sounds like SAO I will be happening all over again. Plus he’s losing weight even quicker than when he was in SAO. Which tells me this game deteriorates your body faster. Which leads me to believe they’re going to trap you in the game and by the time you get out, if you get out, you’ll be damn near bones or on the brink of dead.
I feel like everyone will overlook the sound effects they’re insanely realistic just like the movie
And the art is godlike for a FIFITY EPISODE SEASON

I loved the first episode of Sao season 3. But I was worried that they may screw it up. But you have reassured me, so now I have high hopes for this season

This first episode was a fantastic start to the season. I really liked how they are already getting into some heavy metaphysical elements and getting your brain juices flowing lol. I am looking forward to how this plays out.
