When the noble died he started looping between 2 things thats why he started "lagging", he couldn't decide if he should live or follow the taboo index thus he was stuck between those 2 things and just glitched out until he died of blood loss.
He was going to die anyway. He was looping between the fact that he would either die of blood loss, or by execution from disobeying the Taboo Index

He seems so calm and indifferent, unlike Eugeo who went berserk and later comforted the girl. If it’s a great development for Blondie then it’s a step backwards for Kirito. Agree or not it’s on you, but that’s what I personally think.

As a long time fan of SAO despite all it's flaws, I must say... this episode was above and beyond what I was expecting. From story telling, to animation, all the way to the gruesome scenes. If this really is just the tip of the iceberg, I can't wait to dive into all of what this arc has to offer.

That's a huge generalisation that I object about. I consider myself as a hater, but despite the flaws that exists in recent episodes, I admit that the quality recently was genuinely ok (a 6~7/10 imo). I am a hater not because it is cool, but because I'm disappointed by what I got. If it got back on track, then I'm more than welcome.

If you read the creators tweet, he made this arc back in 2005. That was a common thing for writers to put back then to make people hate a character. The writer said he didn't want to do it but still had to.

Remember how Higa's fluctlight died? Its the same thing, that's how a mind dies, when it's not able to cope up with the situation, Alicization project didn't think about this, every psychological conditions are the coping mechanisms of a human mind so that it can survive or else it would just fade away.
I mean I don't have problem with sexual assault used in this series as a conflict starter, but these recent generations are so over sensitive over that that I'm not surprised people complain about it.
Also the Nobles were used as a device to explain how the Taboo Index and hierarchy works, and how people can do things that even if they are bad, they can get away with it, being rape one of those things because he can use the royal punishment as an excuse.
Doesnt mean they have to waste our time with one dimensional bs. At least try to write something interesting to show the tabboo thingy

The nobles have this judical authority which allows them to bestow any punishment they desire on somebody lower rank than them, if they were to be insulted for example. The only limit on this is that they can't do anything witch breaks an "Higher-law" than their authority. In this case the Taboo Index. Unfortunately the Index doesn't have a rule against sexually assulting somebody, the closest thing is "You can't intentionally reduce another humans life" so as long as the girls didn't lose life, it's fair game.
It really shows how fucked up the system actually is, which is the entire point of this. Eugeo is fucking done with the Taboo Index after this. He's done following a law that took away his Alice for doing nothing wrong, but doesn't protect Tiese and Ronie from shitheads like Raios and Humbert.

When the episode started with that description, it was the first thing I thought. When we see Eugene getting to those shitty nobles room, and they are without some pieces of their close I honestly thought they already did the damage, but I actually felt relieved when they didn't just to make Eugene be frozen and do it in front of him. This was a difficult episode to watch.
Praise Kawahara that he changed it from web novels to light novels. In web novel version Eugene was late...

For a content warming to preface a SAO episode, I knew it had to be something extreme; it did not disappoint. Very impressed with this season so far, like a completely different show
Most people won't look past that scene and realize that most if not all nobles 4th and up exercise their rights as nobles like this, if 3rd and 4th ranked nobles are this bad imagine the 4 imperial noble families, they can basically say and do what they want as long as they don't fight the axiom church
Actually, this was nothing like Goblin Slayer. First, Goblin Slayer might have decided not to get involved. After all, no goblins here, so not his problem. But, if he did decide to act, this fight would have been over in seconds. Neither Nobleman would have been able to get any where near their swords (that would have been stupid..). Goblin Slayer sees rape in progress, whack whack, two heads are rolling on the floor and he's administering first aid to the victims.
That's what's great about Goblin Slayer. He never ever hesitates to act. If he's going to question himself, it'll be after the fight, not before or during.

eugeo was shown to be very kind hearted in the novel, anime didn't show much.
Streaming companies should offer both versions (censored & uncensored) imo that way everyone can make the ‘can I handle this?’ decision themselves. Rape/attempted rape scenes are kind of triggering to me as they hit close to home (it doesn’t matter which format it’s in; video games, anime, movies, etc) and cause me to have panic attacks. But I don’t want my inability of not being able to handle them ruin someone else’s experience of all the nitty gritty scenes. Some people enjoy the shock value of darker scenes and that’s good on them!
This scene is the awakening of Eugeo by saving his pages and then Kirito sneakily rescues Eugeo and kills Raios. They just getting started by destroying nobles, after that they finally meet Alice which is the story is now making progress and it the best thing ever they had done. Sorry for the bad grammar but it was amazing.

Note that in previous games, there was no blood. It just left some glitched glittery stump if someone had an arm or leg chopped off.
Blood is new, and I think it helped up the shock factor since SAO never has shown considerable gore like this.

Technically, yes. The light novel explains that Kirito's Aincrad arts could not defeat Raios's super-powered sword skills, so he had to switch styles to the same moves that Liena-senpai used when she fought Volo two episodes ago. That spinning golden slash he did to chop off the dude's arms was Liena's "Whirling Current" special skill.

In my opinion, I don't think that Kirito killed Raios. He did cut the man's arms off, which resulted in him panicking for his life, but what ultimately killed him was not the bleeding, but rather his AI crashing because it couldn't handle the irrationality of what was happening. We saw this happen when one of the creators demonstrated a copy of their own fluctlight, which ultimately self destructed because it failed to remain rational.
I don't understand cliches are people saying he pasted this scene from other things if you think about it all throughout history things like this have happened even in modern days especially in the timeline that this is set in I enjoyed this episode I enjoy all manga and anime that have scenes like this it's more realistic to real life it helps children and adults to under Stan the cruelties of this world if this is just the fluff I can't wait to see what's coming

Holy shit! I would’ve never expected this from SAO, this season has me hooked more than the other two combined and I only liked half of each of them
Kirito did the right thing, letting the guy bleed out.
That scene made me feel so uncomfortable, even as I saw it coming. I thought I'd be able to grit my teeth and pull through it like I did the two seasons prior, but it got under my skin a little.
I'm glad Eugio did what he did, was able to resist the system and whatnot, and that Kirito's did the same without hesitation. I'm glad that Eugio's page didn't misunderstand his hesitation or lash out at him and appreciated his actions. And I understand this scene is what ultimately leads Kirito and Eugio to Alice and their battle with Quinella and Administrator.
But I still felt uncomfortable, and I didn't feel satisfied by the consequences the nobles faced. I'll get over that scene quickly enough, but I'm putting SAO off for a little while because of it, and that's more than I can say for the other times this kind of thing was used for the plot.
My main gripe is that for villains, the two nobles were bad characters in general. Their actions were sloppy and unbelievable, while most of the time it felt like they were only evil for the sake of...being evil. Attempted rape/abuse scenes like this have been used a lot in these types of stories but it's not nearly as impactful if the audience is spending half the scene face-palming at how ridiculous the offenders are.
They are one dimensional villain. I can see why so many people hate on that aspect. So do I.
@Noble Phantazm In Underworld the Taboo Index is a absolute law. No one, save for a handfull of exceptions like Eugeo, can break it, not even nobles. They have no prisons and such because practically no one ever breaks the law.
The thing is, it's a bit of a spoiler but, Nobles have a type of "gene" that helps them find loopholes in the Taboo Index. Not only that, but their perception as being higher ranked nobles and thus can order anyone else ranked below them to do anything so long as it's not against the Taboo Index, gives them the mentality and contempt for those below them.
According to the Taboo Index:
Kissing on the lips between two individuals whom are not married is forbidden.
and
Reducing the "Life" of another deliberately is forbidden.
Thus Highly ranked nobles such as those two scumbags have found that so long as they don't kiss the girls on the lips and reduce their "Life" they could do anything they want to those girls. It's a loophole in the "absolute law" of the Taboo Index and according to those in Underworld it's perfectly fine so long as it's not forbidden by the Taboo Index.
100% Agree. I don't think any LN readers considers those two fucksticks good villians at all. They're bland and overly evil for apparently very little reason besides their superiority complex. Thankfully they're the last *rapey* villians and the major villians beyond this point are actually well-written.
Basicly the two nobels are throwaway garbage whos only purpose is to further Eugeo's development as he starts to distrust the system that he's had faith in his whole life. Even though the Taboo Index cost him his childhood friend he still believed it to be fair and right. However now, not so much. A system that took away his friend for wanting to help somebody in need, but for some reason allows those two noble cuntwaffels to do something like this? Thats complete bullshit.

Actually the opposite, it is very believable. Not every villain has to have super complex motivations, and how were they at all shitty cartoon villains that do something just to be evil? They are spoiled, prick, teen nobles that planned this according to the rules--and would have totally gotten away with it under normal circumstances--and did it in order to satisfy themselves. That seems very believable to me, actually more believable than usual. You act like shitty people or nobility that will do shitty things--especially when they think they can get away with it--don't exist. They do, and they are quite common, especially so among spoiled nobles in a medieval fantasy setting with fucked up rules, i'd imagine.

Alright, full disclosure. I enjoy watching SAO, and it really sparks a lot of my inspiration to write, especially the stuff from Alicization. As time has gone on, my infatuation with the series has nearly died off, but I still look back on it fondly. And it's great to see a good review on SAO.
Spoiler warning for those who haven't seen SAO, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER.
I'm also very glad to hear that Kawahara is VERY aware of his "This is why I'm a bad guy" repeat. That was probably one of the main reason I was shifting away from the series, as I started to think of his villains as one-trick ponies. "I -redacted- women and that's why I'm a bad guy!" popped up twice, back to back. First with Oberon, then with Death Gun the Kid (can't remember his name).
Arc 1 was good because it introduced us to the world and universe, along with a villain with a very interesting scheme. I loved some of the characters and moments that occured, such as the Toad Meat. Still gets me to laugh... But looping back to the end, we had this clever bit where the guy behind the scheme is hiding in plain sight as their most powerful player, and they then have to beat him. I liked that, because he would have one of two things happen. One, his entering the game means that he resigned himself to death at the hands of those he trapped. It's similar to the trope of the final boss being a god/demon of some sort. But it also shows to me that he wanted to stand on (semi)equal footing to the other players. He saw the same world they did, lived in it like they did, but he never risked his own life. If anything, he was a driving force that was helping them to escape his own trap. Second option, he kills everyone who comes at him and lives out the rest of his days as the hated ruler of an empty kingdom. No subjects, no peers, no rivals, just him and his kingdom of ghosts. Unfortunately, never got the motive/reasoning on that one (it's been a while, so PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong and we do have lore).
Arc 2... eh. I hated Oberon for what he did/tried to do to Asuna, and I have to say, I commend Kawahara for getting me to hate somebody that is not a physical threat to the protagonist. As soon as the field was evened, Kirito wiped the floor like Oberon was the Swiffer Fairy. But, you don't hate the guy because he's a physical threat, you hate him because he's manipulating the world into feeding his god-complex while he hides behind it all.
Arc 3... another eh. I am a huge fan of guns, and the fact that they gave Kirito my favorite pistol of all time, the FN Five-Seven, ho ho boy. I really enjoyed the fights in this arc, although I did feel that some of Kirito's bullet blocking was a bit of a reach. I would've loved to see Kirito block bullets to give himself that bit of buffer period as he moves cover to cover, but that's where the 'touch of realism' side of me is kicking in. Overall, I enjoyed Sinon's story of overcoming her trauma, even if it did seem to spin on its heels and suddenly be resolvable in the span of 2 or so episodes. Kinda flopped towards the end there, but entertaining.
Arc 4. Loved Arc 4. Opening (Courage) is my favorite song in the whole soundtrack, EASY. Plus, going through the struggle that Yuuki and the others were going through to try and accomplish their legendary goal and having people just sweep it out from under them was kinda neat. Also liked some of the ties back to other seasons, with Kirito's bullet blocking practice making spell deflection child's play, and Asuna falling back on her two-plus years of bladework experience when facing Yuuki. Plus, you really feel for Yuuki, that one of the main reasons she got that good is because she's had nothing else to do because of her condition.
And for Alicization? It was great to see a darker, more gritty story told in SAO's world. Yeah, there were dark themes in the previous seasons, but this one really hammered home themes of conformity, manipulation, and standing up for what's right even at personal cost. I mean, Eugeo had his eye pop like a grenade just because he was fighting against what he's been taught his whole life. "These two are justified because the Index says so". The Law can be wrong, and it should never sacrifice human safety or decency. That's why we have basic human rights. Eugeo saw that the law (Index) was wrong, and had to stand up to it.
TL;DR: SAO's had a bumpy road, but we're headed back in the right direction.
This was a good episode, it just surprised me with what they showed.

Considering the amount of violence there probably is not enough Rape. If you have a player kill group then they should be rape groups and the killer's rape before killing. Pretending Rape is not a problem in the real world is not the answer to the problem.

I can't help but have at least a small amount of appreciation for the line Kirito had for that one noble, it was something like "Scum like you are worse then the goblins in the dark territory". Idk why, i just liked that line. And while I did expect the scene with the girls to happen, it didn't detract that scene for me. I can really appreciate Eugeo for going beyond, broke past the taboo and stepped in. Didn't expect hands to come off tho, so they got me in that aspect. Plus Kirito said it himself: "Eugeo is a human being". He's all grown up!
It could have been way worse. They could have use the web novel version of the scene. People would have lost their freaking mind.
It kind of looks like they were penetrated because those nobles were moving in a way that suggest it was minor penetration.... Nah, I will ho with the light novel version.

You know, I was just bit disappointed with the lack of goblin killing on Goblin Slayer this week, but after watching today's episode of SAO I realized that the goblin killing was just done on another show. They even borrowed the disclaimer!
This episode pretty much sums up the point I got to when reading the Light novel, while it was being freely translated online and in my opinion of what I do remember reading; this episode does the novel justice and then some. Although the warnings at the start of the episode made me think... uh-oh... because to me stuff like that is something one would see on an M-Rated TV show or of similar nature.
plus the stuff brought up about Eugeo; I can see the point that he went from an NPC to an actual Human, was quite the profound transition.
as for those disarmed Poser Nobles (pun fully intended), they were certainly well-built enough catalysts in giving Kirito and Eugeo a shortcut, albeit one with a likely extreme amount of trouble. And when that one noble, Rainos(?) was in the midst of dying; I was honestly disturbed, especially since he basically put a face on what happens to a fluclight, when it self-destructs.

My favorite part was when Step stool got its arm detached and gets rope to tie his detachment while Gold fish tried to fight and got violently hooked and started to dance like a starving fish out of water. Love seeing trash like this they cry so well.

I know it was supposed to be a serious and horrific moment but that single image from 3:35 made me just laugh through the whole scene. I just couldn't take it seriously with how comedically Raios jumped onto the bed.
I gotta say loved this episode (and the delicious tears of the weak and sensitive autistic snowfalkes/npcs/etc (no pun-intended) that are SAO Haters), the audio-visual animation is top-notch (honestly no Anime series comes close so far, no anime movie has come even remotly close to topping Ordinal Scale in Audio-Visual quality) albeit a few censoring. The acting was rather emotional and top notch as usual from the Seiyuus.
Though the part that caught my attention (from a Comp-Sci Grad's perspective) was the scene where Raios BSOD as a result of contemplating in deciding in the feedback loop within the scope of that scenario;
A. Not try to break the "Taboo Index", thus letting his "durability" reach 0 as a result of bleeding.
or
B. Try to triage the deep wound by using Humbert's "improvised bandage", which will result in harming Humbert's durability and breaking the Taboo Index in trying to save his own skin.
But due to the Taboo Index being an overriding directive ingrained into these Fluctlights/A.I., the fluctlights can't break the Taboo Index without an strong external influence (like Kirito being the stimuli/"input-data" in Alice/Eugeo's "training-set") . This also highlight the role Kirito plays as being the "input-data" in the "feedback-loop" of the denizens of the Underworld.
From what I observed he (or A.I./Program Raios.exe) got caught in essentially in an infinite (recursion) loop in contemplating the decisions above, and that resulted in an memory-leak (due to large amounts of memory usage rising in a heap) in which the the Cardinal System interprets this as a buffer-overflow/ddos attack on the server and boots Raios from the Underworld, eventually Raios suffers from a segmentation fault (cause fluctlight-cubes albeit large still have a limited amount of allocated memory/storage-space) thus causing his "death" by "Disconnecting from the Server" and not from Kirito directly killing him by decapitation (Kirito in this case avoided violating "murder" in the Taboo Index. This is does show the implications of how fluctlights can kill each other without "killing" each other (not unlike how people lose a pvp match from lagging/dcing out of an pvp based game/mmorpg)
I can see how much effort that was put into the episode. The animation was really well done, and I enjoyed seeing Eugeo get developed some more. And while the scene did make me uncomfortable, like most people.. My main problem is that kids watch this, like my 11 year old sister. They did place a warning, but if I hadn't stopped her from watching it when I did, it would be hard for a kid to see that

I have to be 100% honest. This whole episode was very good! It was well written and you do actually sometimes need to very big climax for a certain scene to stirr up interest and discussion about something. From a pure entertainment standpoint this was superb. Yes its controversial and we dont need to argue about some scenes being bad but it makes for good television.
