Hello! Just here to let you know that the final game of this series is amazing. The entire series is good, but if you only have time for one match, check out the final game!
It almost feels weird that this isn't the finals. Clem pretty much wiped the floor with Serral (here's a sentence I never IN MY LIFE thought I would be able to say), while in this you have this BEAUTIFUL back and forth.
@@Kazuhiro-i and it feels like serral didnt even realize that he hit such a big shot. he was slowly inching forward until he realized that "suddenly" there are a lot less voidrays and he just a clicks
Ohh, now I understand your strategy @LowkoTv. The casters in the tournament had to cast the games they were assigned, but since you're not an official caster, you can upload the best matches to your channel and, ultimately, monetize more than the official casters. Strategy above all, Lowko, good job/
This series was a lot better than the finals, HerO has great strategic thinking. I think he just needs to work on his execution, he loses too many units for free, even when he has impeccable micro on other occasions. I loved his second game strategy, but he made so many mistakes while executing it that the result was a disaster.
Man they really gutted zerg. It's actually insane how the best player in the world by a landslide is forced to play super passively and can only win because of mistakes of her0. He can't make any plays on his own. They need to fix this, how can anyone besides serral even remotely compete with zerg against the overbuffed protos. I mean ladder race distribution pretty much says it all. Barely any zerg just terran and tons of protos in high elo
In reference to why he isn't going Oracle, which is standard, is because Serral rarely loses 2+ drones to oracles with his impeccable defense. I have seen lots of games where he loses literally nothing to an oracle. The voidray allows him to kill 1-2 overlords for 100-200 minerals cost, deny scouting, use 1-2 larva, lower supply available to zerg, and defense against roaches. Its a passive play style but it has more benefits when facing an opponent who is too good defending oracles.
Lowko: spoilers, Hero goes mass tempest in this game HerO: Void rays, void rays, chargin' up my void rays, everyone is asking Blizz to nerf them, nerf them.
Serral has lost his confidence. He has taken a number of losses of late, which seems to have made him react in a very defensive manner and to lose much of his killer instinct outside of well explored set pieces. Whilst you can argue it is him playing safe, the upshot is that he is not killing opponents when he could, he is letting people back into games they should have been pushed out of, and overall it's making him even weaker. A number of occasions in that series where Serral just sat back indecisive and waited. That killer instinct and pressure in SC2 is a very important part of how dangerous an opponent is, above and beyond the usual considerations of balance. The "champ losing his bottle" is a familiar trope long before SC2 existed, I think you're kinda seeing it here with Serral. Question is whether he can get his mojo back.
fantastic series, casted by the Starcraft 2 expert! 25:15 Lowko.exe has stopped working....probably a stream hiccup 32:12 ouuuuch....... I love the bloopers! 1:14:46 Oracles can now use transfusion?!? that looks like a stasis ward to me....oh well.....can't argue with the expert Everyone loves Larry! lol that last game was a back and forth nailbiter bloodbath!
Hero is the real legend of ewc! It's so badass that he barely didn't get to top 4 and then he goes on to get top 4 by just destroying like 5 people in the knock out bracket
Last game was absolutely amazing. Intermediate bases were denied so hard that they never mined out. Protoss dominating and then losing in a last push. Zerg having superior army while Protoss superior economy and zerg being unable to effectively push Protoss out. This was as intense and balanced of a match as you could hope for.
Love your videos man, but I just wanna tell you all how I got my friend to also listen to your videos. We are in our discord server usually and I blast your videos through my mic sometimes and by doing this so much he also got interested. Now he listens to you to go to sleep sometimes LoL.
That mistake with the void rays is nothing compared to: - leaving the game after seeing a bunch of hallucinations - killing your own CC - leaving the game after your opponent killed their own CC ;) - losing a stack of medivacs full of bio to your own widow mines - calling orange purple!!
lowko: i will not spoil the grand finals if you haven't watched the video also lowko 35mins into the video: announces the new world champion XD edit: lowok then again: realises it about 10 minutes later
This particular match wasn't the big money one, it was the lower bracket finals for group B. It only secured the winner $20k (an extra $5k) but put him in the 2nd place group stage match with a chance to secure $80k and avoid the entire treacherous knockout bracket.
I wonder if one of the unintended consequences of mass recall/ teleport type abilities is this overly cautious play style from Zerg. You realise you can’t push even if you are ahead so you end up turtling.
I was rooting for Serral, but after game 2's throw by Hero and the carrier derp in game 3. I can't watch anymore it's just making me depressed. At 40:36 into the video or 7:27 into game three I had to turn it off lol
I think this was mostly a casualty of the tournament format. Clem only had to play five matches in the entire tournament, and two of them were against Serral. Thing is, Clem kind of has Serral's number, since Serral basically plays "standard" pretty exclusively these days, and Clem is fast enough to out-standard Serral. Against Dark, herO, or even other Terrans Clem looks far more mortal.
I wonder how much less Serral was able to be practicing while in the military lately. I think he lost his fingertip feel, not so much that Clem got so much better, though he did, clearly.
@user-nh2bf4to7g I still think Clem has a losing record to Serral. It's just when he's on point, he's unstoppable. Just struggles with consistency. He also seems to have kryptonite matchups against certain Koreans.
I'm surley gonna get hated for saying this, but it feels like protoss players are just a worse breed of players than the current terrans and zergs. I find myself so often watching these amazing games (and casts!) and thinking: "what would the series have looked like if [insert any protoss player] was playing at the same level as Serral, Dark, Clem, Raynor..." The mistakes are not mistakes any pro player should make. Sure one can say that Dark hasn't learned when to make overlords, but he compensates in other ways. In this series Hero looks like a masters lvl player.
Should be on EWC's UA-cam channel. The part I caught was a bit of a disaster; the host and other commentators (CoD and FC24) were pretty dismissive of Starcraft, despite the fact that the SC stream had three times the viewership as the CoD and FC24 streams combined.
If it's any consolation, I missed the bit where you said who won the grand finals lol. Also hold up. I really haven't been keeping up with the balance changes, but is the Mothership cloak a channeled ability instead of constant now?
That first ultralisk game, why not warp in a bunch of sentries for force fields, as the zerg had no ravagers? I know that heavy sentry builds are out of fashion since Hots and WoL, but i think it could have helped a lot to hold off and cut the ultras in half.
Massive units break force fields by walking into them. Ultralisks are massive, so force fields don’t stop them (unless smaller units are sandwiched between them and the force fields I guess)
IMO the 5th game could have gone different. Spoilershield: One Player was hanging in the ropes, until the other player stopped doing what brought him to the brink of victory. Then it went downhill and in the end the player that had already almost lost took the win.
@@mantasjanonis1304 yes thats pressing H over a target instead of clicking on a target! maybe as good as it gets. I like how broodwar units become more disordered from formation as they move, randomizing slightly.
Zerg is supposed to be a cost-inefficient race, hence why they have the strongest production mechanics and ability to build workers 5x as fast as other races. But then they got lurkers (2nd longest range unit in the game), queens with free healing on everything, corruptors tankier than battlecruisers, vipers with infinite energy, all of which grant insane value that no other race can match. No wonder they are nearly invincible in the lategame. A balance change is needed to fix ZvP. Not sure where to start but maybe lower lurker HP, increased energy cost of transfuse and higher HP on interceptors, and mothership should not be yoinkable. That said, part of the issue in this game was the Protoss player being too cavalier with losing expensive units. The gameplan was to take out Z econ but he needed to do so without losing 6k of army.
The only Terran thing I'm willing to have on a game is the music. Seriously, compare this epic series with the one-sided curbstomp that is the finals of this same tournament. I just hope the nerfbat comes soon for Terran, and that it hits hard.

Good guy Lowko thanks for looking out
Nope, I'm going to watch the whole thing!
A timestamp would have been helpful
Hey Lowko, i am curious... is there a video of your commentary in the EWS? Could be fun to watch too :)
The fact that Lowko got the Dunning Kruger effect mixed up with the bell curve with such confidence is peak Dunning Kruger effect.😅
When did he mention the Dunning Kruger effect?

32:12 you can actually watch herO just about have an aneurysm as he fights the reflex to just gg out right here.

If Serral was looking for his keys, he’d misplace them, only to find them after he stops trying to find them. That’s what I think of that game 😎
Aah thanks for Hero, the pro that makes all of us F2-all-army-hotkey-noobs feel less inadequate at starcraft 2.
