Now Serral finally knows what it's like to play against Serral
I feel like Clem did a lot of preparation with playing in Korea and Serral is busy with military service so his training is probably limited.
@@tristantully1592 also doesn't help that they nerfed Zerg into the ground (basically because Serral is so good) so majority of pro Zerg players were forced to drop that faction entirely. Serral is one of the few who can overcome what majority of pros in the industry called a faction killing nerf. Now the Clem has had a similar run to Serral i wouldn't be surprised to see Terran get some nerfs in the not too distant future.

I have covered many of the premier and major tournaments live! This year I was at the Esports World Cup event on the EWC Central stream for four days covering StarCraft 2 to a more main stream audience.

Problem is there reaches a micro point with marine medivac where they are essentially super cheap, super hyper mobile, super fast, super quickly produced, supported by tanks needing no siege upgrade, liberator, and cloaked widow mine…

Not a coincidence this imbalance was put on display at such a big moment - one of the very few pro players in the world put in the micro training to take advantage of what is clearly an imbalance in the game.
If there were thousands of pros and more money in the last few years we’d have seen it sooner - everyone on the ladders, including teams, saw this coming though. We’ve all watched marines run as fast as mutas while shredding them or have 12 marines and a couple vacs absolutely crush a number of battle cruisers.

Clem is godlike... Just wiped the floor with Serral. This is unbelievable.. The fact Serral is in the military changes a lot but this is an outstanding achievement. Clem is at his best.
I'm really looking forward to how this might push Serral to up his game even further. Can't wait to see both these guys at the next Major/Premier tourney. HerO too, dude played like an absolute boss.

Combine super cheaply mass producible easily upgradable hyper mobile marines shooting up and sideways as fast as flying mutas when stimmed with super fast instant pick up drop ships that heal and producible 2 at a time out of reactors?
What you get is a combination whose Dominicance is only limited by a players micro, and Clem is showing everyone who wants to go high in pro how to do it. Because Marine medivac never loses - only ones micro does. So, master the micro, and you’ll make serral look like a newb.
It’s clearly a balance issue that Clem is the first to really put on display and unfortunately happened at a huge world championship that made these games absolutely horrible to watch cause all serious StarCraft people saw what was going on
@@ShyBri41 The thing that's struck me over the past couple of years watching the pro scene is that Zerg is now expected to be the "roll with the punches and turtle until early mid-game" race, but then they don't really have as good of a late game ability due to the poor trading of units. The balance with Zerg has clearly been cut too fine due to Serral's dominance. If defense isn't letter perfect against such micro, you just lose straight out of the gate.
@@ShyBri41 maybe serral should just learn the matchup. maybe serral should study his opponent. maybe serrall... etc etc etc. All excuses i heard for serral dominating other players. Serral got his ass handed to him by somebody who studied his play and learned to read him like a book. clem still loses plenty of games to other players. Get over it, clem earned this not becuase TeRaN oP, he earned this through serral playing the exact same way he always does and getting hard countered. He earned this by playing like an absolute boss. serral fanboys get rekt, new goat in town.
@@ShyBri41 I don't entirely agree because Clem is the ONLY one who can do that to Serral in Terran. All the other top Terran players like Maru have been destroyed by Serral (Maru has lost 2 times 4-0 to Serral in the grand final in the last 2 LANs).
And to be honest I didn't find Serral very good in this Grand Final (mentally he wasn't conquering as usual), not very creative, rather fearful, almost always at home and so Serral has to find a new strategy against him.
Or maybe Clem has simply become too fast and too strong for him. The only ones who can keep up with him are Reynor, who took 2 games from him, and Maxpax.
And don't forget that Serral doesn't play as much as he used to and is older than Clem, all of which plays into the equation.
I thinck before crying unbalance, it's important to remember that Serral has more than once spanked top players too, and nobody said that Zerg was cheat. As far as I'm concerned, even if playing Terran at Clem's level seems extremely strong, you have to remember that it's also EXTREMELY hard to play at that level, and that Clem at the moment is just about the undisputed best.

I think Clem found the holy grail strategy for TvZ. Look how many queens he snipes, if he can snipe banes he will, hydras the same but when it's just lings and queens he focuses the queens - it really shows in the creep spread and it's way harder for Zerg to keep hatcheries high on drugs. Even in past games when Clem beat Serral I don't think I've ever seen him successfully and consistently limit the creep to basically just the Zerg bases. As Winter would say - a truly French, revolutionary idea.
zerg is literally micro limited class, there is no stuff to micro, there were infestors and they got nerfed to the ground. terran vs zerg is basically micro kill the banes and u outdps zerg by quadruple the amount, they just die

Imagine microing queens to transfuze ultras and broodlords, infestors to fungal and mind control, vipers to yoink and blinding cloud on 3 different hot keys all in the same battle? Its so difficult we havent even seen it done effectively yet in a battle and if you think its been done provide the replay. Imagine adding lurkers to that whole bonanza to burrow in range and make use of their splash while keeping everything else going? If we got a clem level micro with serrall macro maybe wed see it but ive been watching sc2 for over a decade and never seen someone micro to that level.

@@Kazuhiro-i It'd certainly help me a lot. Spoken like someone who's never failed to make rent, lived without health insurance, and been unable to afford therapy. Those things have been terrible for my mental health. Especially the inability to afford medicine that I relied upon for over a decade, for mental health issues.
Turns out, money matters a lot when you don't have enough. My landlord who's made me go two months without a working washing machine because she's too busy using my money to vacation in greece to replace it can wipe her tears with the cash she extorts from me - or blow it out her ass, for all I care. She can certainly afford to get help for whatever upsets *her*.

Serral completelly gave up with 8k minerals and 3k gas in the bank. He never looked so hopeless. I did believe he will reverse it though, but to lose 5:0, before lossing 3:0, all I have to say is congrats Clem!

Only time i remember. Has a new tag now. Ragnarok for a couple of premiere tournaments was known as yhe serral sniper. That stopped when basilisk picked up raynor and serral. No pro zerg in Europe would practice with him.

Ghost snipe nerf is long overdue. Its beyond ridiculous how hard it counters everything against all other races.
Thats the only balance issue id agree with, ghost do need more work but the problem is the late game is balance on top of the ghost if you kill the ghost then Terran has nothing for late game, mech whitout ghost is trash and bio is even more trash and air is just not it. It sucks that late game depends only on one unit which is only counter by lower tier cheap units or insane micro and spell casters traps.
@@unclefine This is indeed a problem. Nerf the ghost, then Terran have nothing on late game. How the balance team trapped themselves on this is a mistery.
ghost needs a snipe size nerf ive been saying it forever. The larger the unit the weaker the snipe should be. It makes sense vs casters. It doesnt make sense vs ultralisks. Same thing should be applied to the viper yanking motherships with abduct. Should take like 4 vipers to yoink a mothership or 3 for a carrier.
Edit: I see alot of people saying what would happen if you nerfed the ghost to terran's late game. I think a small nerf like i proposed would adjust the role of the ghost considerably so its not built en masse like it is now for the snipe ability.
@@xv9021 it's reasonable, but if the ghost can't deal whit ultralisks, then what? And if the nerft doesn't change the interaction then is meaningless, maybe the cost efficiency? It's hard man
@@unclefine Early in sc2 idra tried to mass ultras against maru. Maru made marauders and thors and absolutely rofl stomped him, only for idra to cry "imba" over tournament game chat. This was so long ago Day9 was the one casting the replay before his fall from grace. Point being you have late game thors to deal with broods and ultras, and they are not as ubiquitous and cheap as ghosts.
If Serral can be solely responsible for numerous Zerg nerfs, maybe it's Clem's turn.
EDIT: to be clear, I mostly meant this as a joke since Lowko often has commented how Serral was responsible for multiple Zerg nerfs.
i don't think. The top 4 was composed of 2 zerg (Dark and Serral), one Terran (Clem) and one Protoss (Her0) It's was pretty even qualification. Clem and Serral are just 2 monster. And by the wat Retnnor was close to beat clem (3:2)

Clem played some of the best SC2 I've ever seen in this series.
Hopefully, when Serrals military service is over and he has again more time to practice, he can climb back to the top. After all what really hurt him here the most was that he couldnt keep up with Clems incredible speed. And to get there you need to train *a lot*
Honestly, I think Starcraft would continue to be great with more intentional casting and explanation like Lowko was describing.
From a spectator perspective, the mix of skirmish and big picture strategy keeps it intriguing - it can just be overwhelming if you don't play the game.

that's what we called a curb stomp back in the day....glad Serrall got some of what he dished out to Maru earlier this year....just like Serrall...Clem's game when he's at his best is unbeatable

First off...kudos to Clem for a SUPER on-point series of Starcraft play! He was on fire that whole time! Really shows how the practice he's been putting in has paid off imo! I was actually really impressed that Serral was put on the back-foot so hard! I don't think I've seen a game or series where he struggled that badly. No doubts he still did what he could and he played very impressively. Lots of variables could be considered as to what affected overall gameplay...but...not my place, ultimately as a fan; I want to express a massive kudos to both Clem & Serral for an amazing set of games, congratulate Clem on the win and wish both players well! Hey Lowko, would you please show a little bit more of the Terran bases in future casts, specifically the main base? I ask because I like to see the exact switcherus between the barracks, factories and starports etc. . That way it's easier to copy build orders from the best players. Obviously you gotta show the shenanigans that are happening at the front but it in between there's quite some time, to show the structures setup of the players.
I think this is good. This way Zerg can finally get some buff. Serral is the sole reason Zerg kept on getting nerfed.
Serral have loose map only against Clem. He have destroy every other player. It's not a balance problems. Expecially when the 4 final player were from the 3 race
I have never experienced such trauma from watching my hero getting absolutely destroyed. It felt like watching god die, and I loved it.

Hey lowko, just recently found your channel and I'm loving it so far. I used to watch starcraft all the time when husky was a commentator still. Once he stopped so did I. All that to say you are the first person I've enjoyed listening to since husky so thank you!
Wow, what an amazing performance from Clem throughout the whole tournament.
He deserved this win, his Terran is the best Terran I have ever seen.
IMO in his hands Terran is almost unbeatable, because Terran combines everything you need in Starcraft:
Bio-Terran has:
- great mobility (medivacs)
- insane DPS
- great scouting tools with the reaper, the hellion and - of course - scans
- low supply needed for a lot of dps (8 marines + medivac are only 10 army supply, but can deal huge amount of damage in short time)
- high sustainability and regeneration (heal)
- a perfect mix of high micro units (bio + medivac), combined with stuff that takes very little effort (mines + liberators), but that require a lot of attention from the opponent
- none of his army becomes obsolete - marines are good early, mid and late game - compare that to roach/ravager which are just mid mid/lategame, so as Zerg you have to get rid of them.
- Ghosts / Tanks / Libs and mines almost always guarantee you very good, very efficient trades
- huge range (libs + tanks)
- with the Ghost you counter almost every Zerg Unit: Ghost counter Ultras, Broodlords, Lurker and Hydras - and they do quite well against banes too - and even against zerglings they aren't bad. So they counter everything but do not get countered by anything.
The only downside: Squishy. Bio Terran can get destroyed by AoE fast.
But if you play as good as clem - and with the huge nerfs to banes + fungal - that just doesn't happen.
And his stuff counters the AoE of the opponent very well:
Banes + Infestors have been heavily nerfed. Marauders do very well against banes. Ghost do well against infestors.
And against Toss it is even more heavy: Templar? NO chance against ghosts EMP (which btw reduce the HP of Toss armies by roughly 1/3 with 1 click!)
The Colossi die against marauders and esp. vikings extremly fast
Disruptors are great - if the Terran doesn't micro very good. Against Clem, the Disruptor does almost 0 damage.
And on top of that the Terran has:
- great map vision because of sensor towers
- mid/late game almost unlimited Scans and this way he never has to go in unprepared and he always can check for burrowed threads
- mules, which results in him needing at 15 workers less to mine the same. -> His army supply can be much bigger than the opponents and he still gets the same ressources
- mules as a great comeback tool if he loses SCVs
- SCVs are more resiliant to attacks than drones + probes. The Banshee 2-shots probes + drones. The Oracle 2-shots probes + drones. The SCV needs 3 hits. That is a HUGE difference, because a single oracle gets nothing done against terran. You have double the time to withdraw an SCV (it survies 2 shots compared to 1 shot like drone/probe)
- Terran can wall off easily
- High safety in the early game - Terran can play greedy. Or very safe. A banshee, a bunker - and there isn't much cheese the enemy can do.
IF the Terran manages to micro his Bio-army like Clem, there is nothing that the other races can do against Terran.
Because Terran is just perfect in everything, there isn't a single weakness.
Well, despite bio being kind of squishy - but if you micro like Clem, this is not an issue.
And that results in the perfect race that is in the hands of Clem in this shape and form unbeatable.
The face cam of this match is rather insane. Serral lost it on the end of the match.
Seeing Clem vs Serral is like THE games that you absolutly need to watch every time
the thing i like about bo9 is the dragonball aspect, where you can slowly build effort to surprise the oponent

I started reading this when you brought it up in a cast a few months ago and it's one of my favorite book series of all time. Depending on how it ends, it might beat our Harry Potter, ASoIAF (NOT GoT), or maybe even TLoTR as my favorite book and series, but that's a tall order.

I think Serral was more aggressive in the mid game in this series because in the first series he played against Clem in this tournament he was cutting corners and droning more but it bit him in the ass because Clem was pushing hard as a result.
Sooo... Clem/Terran went technically 8 to 0 against Serral/Zerg... As a Zerg player: Is this my allowance to call Terran imba whenever I lose a game against them in bronze league now? xD
(P.S. really love watching clem and serral play and every single time going: Is this an actual human I'm watching here or some kind of AI xD -- But holy is clem going strong these days! Big congrats! o.o)
But Clem have loose 2 map against Reynor and was very close to loose a third one. The 4 player qualified were Hero (Prtoss), Clem (Terran) Dark and serral (Zerg). So it's not balance bad this time. Serral and Clem are just way too strong.
Serral went like 10/0 against maru so i think we cant for now 😭

I think Serral was not at his best. Lets be honest there was some major mistakes. But Clems terran is something out there... Like dude. I have always thought that terran is the best race if played perfectly but its such a hard thing to do. The speed of micro, the spliting of your troops.. Now clem shows us what can be done with terran :o GG WP!
