    The plastic containers u get from strawberries and stuff at the grocery store are as precious as GOLD! They already have drainage holes, and u can close them to make a mini greenhouse. Don’t throw em! Reduce, reuse, repurpose, refurbish, regift, and as a last resort recycle 🌎♻️

      My favorites are strawberry and berry containers of all sorts and clear plastic takeout containers. Even black bottom take out containers with the clear lids. And I have an awesome pizza place near me that won't actually sell me clear takeout containers real cheap since I don't always order out but I'm always in need of stuff like that😊

    What a great idea. We’re gardening for the first time and doing it in totes and just happen to have two clear ones. I came across a woman named Robbie here on UA-cam and she composts, grows and makes her own plant food from every tote she uses. Thank you for sharing ❤

    Genius idea! I have thought about the totes before for gardening ideas, but I kept thinking, too bad it doesn't have a transparent top.
    The obvious solution was to turn it upside down! It's still not quite transparent but it's opaque and that could be OK too. And there are probably some totes that are more transparent than others as well.

    Looks like a really cool idea! Just out of curiosity, how well do you think this would this be at retaining heat? Seeing as you can put the lid on with the plants in the tote, I would imagine well? Haha zone 6 gardener's question. Love your channel!

    The only thing about using the clear bin you gotta make sure its not blocking the uv rays from the sun some plastics can block sunlight from the plants

    I have something like that. I have a electric greenhouse. I bought some real cheap grow and stuck them on the top and use the old heating pad and put it at the bottom. The temperature stays around 75 on low and around 82° on high.

      These are nice to use because I can pick them up and take inside at night then put them back out in the morning. Thanks for watching.

    Amazing I just started gardening and this is perfect, going to get a tote tomorrow for watermelon 🍉 ! Quick question though 😬 if I live in a 10a zone would I be able to just leave it outside instead of bringing it inside?

    • @keithwilkes7629
      @keithwilkes7629  3 роки тому +2

      Depending on what you've covered in the tote, You should take it inside if the temp is going to get close to freezing. I bring my totes in every night it's going to get below 40. Thanks for watching.

    Hi! Thank you for the advice! How you do with the watering? I really I’ve been having a hard time to find a proper tray to avoid the water licking everywhere.
    Best regards from Chile 🇨🇱

      You have to check it daily. Uncover them when it gets above 50 degrees. Water from the top. Thanks for watching.

    does the lack of air flow affect the growth of the plant?

    • @mr.ganja42O
      @mr.ganja42O 3 роки тому +4

      Shouldn’t as long you take off the lid once every few hours

  • @Alphasig336
    @Alphasig336 5 місяців тому

    Unless it’s going to freeze you can leave it outside. If it’s only goes in to 40’s it’s not going to stunt them over night.

  • @kadyfong

    Can you shed some light on air flow? Poking holes on the bin?

    • @keithwilkes7629
      @keithwilkes7629  3 роки тому +2

      I don't worry about air flow. I also don't keep them in the total once the temp. starts to warm up past 50. Thanks for watching.

  • @albread

    What time of year was this? Will the container keep the plants warm in colder temperatures? ❤

    • @keithwilkes7629
      @keithwilkes7629  Рік тому

      You can put it out as soon as the temperatures are going to stay warm enough for the plants. Remember that they're less hardy when they're younger. Move them inside if it's going to get below freezing over night. Thanks for watching.

    Just wondering how you control the humidity level inside since there are no holes? It could get pretty hot inside on a very sunny day.

    • @keithwilkes7629
      @keithwilkes7629  5 місяців тому

      Don't control the humidity and take to top off if it's over 50. Thanks for watching.

    This may be a dumb question, but why do you put the plants on the lid instead of in the bottom of the clear tote?

    • @keithwilkes7629
      @keithwilkes7629  3 роки тому +2

      The lid would create shade. I also use the totes to bring inside if the temp. drops too low. Never a stupid question. Thanks for watching.

    • @mesmodeveras1760
      @mesmodeveras1760 3 роки тому +1

      My question too, easier to pick up. Guess it would be ok if the lid was clear.

    Was it said? If not, it needs to be. DRILL AIR HOLES! Depending what you're using it for, in this case, growing seeds, you need fresh airin and stale air out, otherwise your plants will grow mold, suffocate and die. Also, if you're planning on leaving it outside, drill some holes on the top, for when it rains. And some at the bottom, to drain excess water.

    For $ 49.00 I got a mini greenhouse and start my seedlings of all my plants I will transplant in my outside garden every yr. This yr. we have 150 plants to replant and we take them outside for hardening every day for a week before transplanting them! Excellent crop every yr. now for last 5 yrs. Take a look at my Picture of Mini Greenhouse here as a subscriber.
