Jack I do this everyday literally I find things, we eat the stuff and then I make little mini humidity domes for them! it's so freaking fun I love it I love it I love it!
Excellent, i just made a pot out of the same kind of container for three of my seedlings a couple nights ago wihout dividers though and theyre just sharing their new home together. Avocado seed, honey mango seed and another avocado seed. I hadnt thought of humidity domes until a couple days ago. You made this video very clear to understand, thanks for making it.
For several years now I've been using the domed plastic cups you get at fast food establishments.I use peat pellets to start with and wind up with the same results as you,I truly like your channel and am glad I subscribed to it!!
I too use the plastic containers, since they come in all shapes and sizes. However, on the cheap, do not overlook plastic drinking cups, as a pack of 50 or 100 is cheaper than seedling trays. They are generally deeper as well, so you don't have to "up pot", as much. Just be sure to add a couple of drainage holes in the bottom and don't use the brittle cups. Another cheap tip, if you have a heated floor, use that as your heat mat. I use my bathroom floor until germination, then I move the plants to the light room. If you don't have a dome to cover the seeds, use a piece of cardboard or plastic wrap to cover until they germinate. You most likely, will not have to water your seeds again until AFTER they germinate and you remove the cover.
I did this on my own, but didn't think to make compartments! Great idea. I also used old iced coffee cups with the lids on and poked the straw hole to be bigger to allow ventilation. This also worked really well too!
I did something similar with a sams club cookie container and some cell trays. Now I'm on a rush shelving/grow pod build as my sprouts outgrow their cookie home quickly. Good stuff.
Hi Jag, sometimes videos are so confusing. I boughy potting mix to grow seedlings then read that seedling soil is required then got the same. And your method is so simple. You just told to use garden soil thus saves money. Which means we can grow seedlings with garden soil too. Thanks again, Inder Canada 🇨🇦
Excellent. I”m going to look for spinach just so I can have that container. I’m currently using smaller 10oz sliced fruit containers and a round take out container. Thank you great clear instructions.
Awesome idea !!! I have a container like that in my fridge with spinich lol... Ill put the spinach in a Ziploc bag... Also do you have to water the plants everyday?
I definitely like the idea of using these containers for something else rather than just tossing them. We have too many 1-use items going all over to different packaging or shipping needs and we really need to think 2x about just throwing it away after one time. Your pea seedlings are a bit leggy but that's related to the light source, not to this great idea of reusing the container to germinate and make seedlings. Thanks for the video!
great idea . next time I have one of these containers I'll keep it and use it that way. I have 2 pea seedlings right now using mini flower pots and compost with a plastic bag over the top. I've taken the bag off now and I'll be planting these out in a week or so.
great video. I love it. Could you please explain if you water only once, as I only saw you doing it only once. or if that is not the case, how often do you have to water and how much. Thanks
You have awesome videos about gardening and I’m taking notes of a lot of good ideas and tips. For this one in particular I want to ask you if you have tried to add holes in the bottom of the plastic to drain some excess of water, if not what are you though around that?, and again thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I’m new to gardening. Do you always start seeds indoors? If I use this method can I leave them outside? Is the plastic covering considered indirect sunlight? If I have a greenhouse, would you leave the plants in there the whole time or move them outside after they have sprouted?
try a goldfish tank and use cling film on the top works really well make cling film is quite tight you don't need to wrap the the whole tank just the top of it i managed to grow the beginning of tomato's keep in mind this is very very early growing i am doing :P
Is superb!!!! Kindly tell ma that shouldn't we leave a hole in our green house so that the steam created inside may escape.. isn't heat with steam is harmful to plants???? Please guide about this!!!!
i like this inexpensive way...does this plastic box needs holes for vantilation? during seeding process,,does it need to put indoor or outdoor? i don't live in cold state..
Hello and thanks for you great information, I plant seed in eggs tray but unfortunately after I put the tray outside even it is not under direct sunlight and has enough humidity the plant die . The temperature here is 35 degree . Do you think it is better to keep indoor ? Please advice . All plants been planted in egg tray died after short time
Great video and information. I have kale seedlings successfully growing now using this method. I started with putting them in the closet for germination and they came up but were kinda tan, not really green. Then I put them in sun and indirect sun and they are green now and growing. Which is better for germination - dark or light? Looks like you have them in indirect sunlight. Thanks so much for the video.
I love making similar free domes, my biggest problem is that my cardboard dividers bring mold into the scenario. Maybe I should cover them in neem oil before using.
I'm trying to do this in winter. i done something similar to you but there is always mould. This is useful because it helps to harness the heat from the sun. but it seems my plants can't cope with humidity.
Thank you nice video can I grow eggplant or squash or lemon ginger baby cherry tomatoes seedlings what vegetable will work? with this technique , can I keep them indoors ince they start growing since it's cold now I'm in ny can I wait until April or may to plant them and just grow them indoors? Also do I need to poke any holes for air in plastic container thanks
Do you still have to spray these every day? Or is the humidity dome enough to 'water them for you'? How often should you spray with a humidity dome seed starter?
Thanks for the video...I would like to ask if the mini green house should be closed airtight in case I am rooting from plant cuttings.. I am using a plastic bottle which I inverted on the curry leaves plant cutting, and the bottle is completely in the soil packed...is that ok or should I make some holes for the air to circulate?
Thank you for the video! One question - does it work if the dome has holes in it? I buy strawberries in plastic containers and they are perfect for this method but they have holes for airflow at the top as well as bottom of the container.
Jack I do this everyday literally I find things, we eat the stuff and then I make little mini humidity domes for them! it's so freaking fun I love it I love it I love it!
SUCH a great idea ... have got mine going right now and will be saving all my salad boxes from now on!

Great idea with the cardboard dividers

Great idea!! I also love these plastic containers for propagating stem and leaf cuttings, works great!!😊🙏🏼

Thank you for the kind words :)
Excellent video. One of the best I’ve seen about new seedlings.
I too use the plastic containers, since they come in all shapes and sizes. However, on the cheap, do not overlook plastic drinking cups, as a pack of 50 or 100 is cheaper than seedling trays. Compartments are a great idea for container!
Omg I have one in my fridge!!! Eek so excited! I'm gonna use it as a green house cover on rectangular planter indoors!
Love your videos. Very helpful and cost effective. Thank you very much. First year gardener.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video and teach me about starting seedlings. Much appreacited.
I did this on my own, but didn't think to make compartments! Great idea. I also used old iced coffee cups with the lids on and poked the straw hole to be bigger to allow ventilation. This also worked really well too!
Great idea!
I really like to do recycling things.
I like how you did the patitions.
Enjoy......planting
I did something similar with a sams club cookie container and some cell trays. Now I'm on a rush shelving/grow pod build as my sprouts outgrow their cookie home quickly. Good stuff.
Did you put some holes on the bottom for drainage or its not necessary? Thank you 😊🙏🏼🌱
Jack, your the man! great videos for this beginner.
Genius, and conveniently I just happen to buy my arugula from Sprouts in these containers! Thanks
Thank you! Love your channel! and this is something I am going to try. I just pulled a plastic container out of the recycle bin that will work great.
Duude, this is such a simple but effective idea. Thanks bro
Oh I wish I saw this video before I randomly planted my seedlings in a container. Using cardboard to create compartments is such a great idea!
Hi Jag, sometimes videos are so confusing. I boughy potting mix to grow seedlings then read that seedling soil is required then got the same. And your method is so simple. You just told to use garden soil thus saves money. Which means we can grow seedlings with garden soil too.

Garden soil is not so sterile.
Thank you. I tried it...it worked beautifully.
I just canceled my seed starting kit order from Amazon! Thank you!
Excellent. I”m going to look for spinach just so I can have that container. I’m currently using smaller 10oz sliced fruit containers and a round take out container. Thank you great clear instructions.

Genius! And a great way to recycle. Thank you!
Do you think this will work with green onions?
Nvm this is 2 weeks later and it works well
Did you put it in the sun while in the small greenhouse?
great video. I love it. Could you please explain if you water only once, as I only saw you doing it only once. or if that is not the case, how often do you have to water and how much. Thanks
I live in Canada 🇨🇦 just by doing this
I just use solo party cups and ziplock bags. Im very frugal lol
You have awesome videos about gardening and I’m taking notes of a lot of good ideas and tips. Very good information. Thanks for posting this.
Thank you, this is great for those of us that, do not grow in quantities. Question, do you have drain holes at the bottom?
Cool idea! I repurpose a lot of things!
try a goldfish tank and use cling film on the top works really well make cling film is quite tight you don't need to wrap the the whole tank just the top of it i managed to grow the beginning of tomato's keep in mind this is very very early growing i am doing :P
Quick, Easy, Nice, Cheap! Thanks
Thank you for sharing this! I’m going to try this now that it’s getting colder here in Seattle!
Is superb!!!! Kindly tell ma that shouldn't we leave a hole in our green house so that the steam created inside may escape.. isn't heat with steam is harmful to plants???? Please guide about this!!!!
i learned a lot. Now I know what mistake I was doing. thanks for sharing

This is an amazing idea and you did a great job explaining how to do it
Awesome video. Do we need to water it everyday ? Or wait till the soil is dry?
I want to know the answer for this too.

That’s Amazing idea
love this idea. thanks so much
Wow , I like it thank for sharing this video
I have a bunch of these containers... Thanks so much! 😊
This works very well for slow germinators like okra.
Don’t you have to make holes underneath for drainage or on top for air? Great idea
Why didn’t I think of this!? What a good idea!!
I'm trying to do this in winter. i done something similar to you but there is always mould.
This is useful because it helps to harness the heat from the sun. but it seems my plants can't cope with humidity.
Thank you Jag it is a great idea
Really liked the idea!
Ziplock bags fit perfectly on the ring of two solo party cups stacked.
What a great idea. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing this video
This is giving me so many idea
Hi could you tell me Did you put holes at the bottom of the container ?
Already holes
This is my kind of smart! Thank you💕
Great idea! Does it need to be the thin plastic from spinach containers or can it be a thicker plastic take out container?
Wonderful video ! Thank you !
Great video! Thank you very much
Another great video Jag

This is such a great idea! Thank you for this!

Wish he would answer these are great questions
Great idea
How many times a day you uncover dome while germinating?
Is it good idea to blackout this whole container?
Brilliant idea. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Great video, very confused I have seen that seeds should be in a DARK warm area ,now you have them in full sunlight thank you
Great idea! Will be trying this!
Knowledgeable thank you for sharing this
Best thing is that you are reusing a plastic item instead of throwing it away or even recycling it. 🙌
Cardboard was genius
This is awesome. Thanks, Jag!
