    It’s so crazy how he came up with this plan to lay up short of every bunker and land center green on every approach and trust his lag putting. He did exactly that on every hole and never changed.

    • @jeremeymiller3406
      @jeremeymiller3406 2 роки тому +11

      Easy to do when your as long as he was and your the best iron layer and pressure putter next to Jack of all time. 🤣 I wouldn’t say he played to the center of the green of every hole as much as he played to the correct quadrant of the green and was disciplined in playing to his landing areas. If you’ve ever heard him talk about his strategy in the way he plays he says he is alway playing aggressively to his spot which rarely if ever the flag unless the course is just soaked. I really took that to heart when i was younger and it made me a better player I never thought strategically like that when I played but when I started to around 16 I got a lot better even breaking par for the first time. So even now when I play if I can see the flag I know what side of the tee box I’m going to and what side of the fairway I want to be in to access pins and more importantly where you do not want to miss and short side yourself. him and Jack are very similar in that way just goes to show it’s about more than the swing!

      @@Eldrickshoezzz from what I read in Hank haney’s book it was an obvious but collective agreement after only playing a couple practice holes they could see how firm fast and dry the conditions were but mainly they saw that if you were to find one of those fairway pot bunkers you were pretty much dead chipping out sideways so instead of overpowering the course like he did in 2000 and play over the bunkers it was firm enough to get away with being short of them I remember thinking at the time that I’d never seen anyone hit it 60yds plus past Tiger off the tee but like in 2000 incredibly didn’t find a bunker all week whoever came up with it, it sure as hell paid off! 🤣

    All these people in the comment section have no idea what course conditions are all about. It doesn’t have to be green to be good. The greens still roll true and the fairways are still great surfaces to hit off of, it’s just a different color. That’s just classic links golf.

      Yep, I don't think people also fathom how hard it is to do what he did on a links course by not going into ANY bunkers for 4 DAYS! That is simply not possible, you're going to be in a bunker if you play links...not tiger woods tho

    Perfect example of how old crotchety stuck up announcers don’t have a place in professional sports anymore. Tiger brought fans from all walks of life some who couldn’t care less about golf they just wanted to see a celebrity and it’s that kind of swarm that skyrocketed our great sport tiger woods made it cool to play golf. People like his commentator made it uncool by not willing to embrace surge of people as if they didn’t belong Tiger ended that elitist mentality in a big way. As long as it’s after the player makes contact who cares if they yell? Turn your microphone down then! Tiger is barely aware of it to begin with hes so locked in. players well at least most US players love rowdy respectful crowds they feed on it especially players like Tiger. You know what I wish old timer? that they had a mute button for you and other commentators to shut you the hell up so we can hear the strategy and what the player and caddy are talking about when getting ready to play a shot. To me and a large amount of golf fans I’ve talked to all agree that’s infinitely more interesting than whatever the hell some old guy is babbling on about we don’t need anything but updates, and rule official explanations from them. we can see full well what the hell just happened after a particular shot if not you will on instant replay and for those who can’t that’s what play by play on the radio is for. It’s people like this who made the sport of golf boring or turned it on to get to sleep. Compared to 2006 I’d say we’re moving in a better direction 🤦🏻‍♂️

    The state of this course is abysmal. Guys, run the sprinklers.

    The commentator is right. It really should be made a condition of sale on championship tickets that spectators not shout:"get in the hole!" at every drive, approach shot, chip and putt. It would also be good if commentators could not greet impressive shots with exclamations like: "you're kidding me!" and "get out of here!"
    It's vacuous.
