READ THIS COMMENT. I thought I was gonna have a hard time getting the clutch off but it was easy. I had some adjustable that were big enough for the nut. I used a pipe wrench on the water pump pulley since I'm replacing the water pump, slide the ooen end of the pipe wrench on the lip of the pulley from the back and tension the pipe wrench while you put pressure on the nut. Worked like a charm! Didn't really have to use much pressure really. Hope this helps somebody.

Thanks for posting this video. I was having a hard time getting the fan off and if I hadn't seen this, I would've thrown in the towel & paid someone way too much money to do it. Thanks.

The easiest method I’ve found is to use a 🗜, only tighten it enough to hold it in place so you can break it loose with a pipe wrench or a Crescent wrench. You can put little pieces of rubber on the clamp so you don’t damage the pulley but it’s really not necessary as long as you don’t tighten the clamp down crazy hard.

My floor jack handle has done far more work as a breaker bar than it ever did as a floor lack handle.

For those doing this... When reassembling this fan clutch onto the threaded Water Pump, add a small dab of anti-seize to the threads of the fan clutch, where it screws onto the WP... If you plan on keeping this vehicle for years, it will make the next WP job smoother... I have one that is going to take a complete replacement of WP, Pulley, Fan blades, and Clutch assembly due to rust seizure . I have made it glow with the torch (which also killed my fan clutch seals) and still cannot get it to break loose..

So do you simply remove the upper shroud only to perform this fan clutch R&R? Thanks you guys. As always I will be getting my parts from 1A Auto.

I just replaced the power window regulator. I used the cable from the old regulator. I backed out the alternator bolt, wrap that cable around the bolt, and tightened it back up. Voila!

1A Auto Parts hi I have a 2004 Chevrolet suburban my truck started making this loud air sound everytime I accelerate I went and replaced the fan clutch and it's still making the noise when i got that truck and didnt have that noise can you give me an idea what could it be

    • @Bradygoodz

Anthony Maldonado it’s the fan clutch. The only clutch that doesn’t cause the annoying howl is the factory oem GM clutch.

Im too broke for this I've bought specialty tools for this still with no luck. Im putting well over 180 pounds torque but still nothing but mangled tools and a hurt ego
