On one hand he is right, but if you know anything about the history of Russia following the dismantling of the Berlin Wall and the agreement we made with them in accordance to not allow Nato to expand any further east, which of course was not honored, there's quite a valid argument to made that we provoked them into this war, especially considering the many peace deals Russia was willing to come to the table for before, during, and still currently. Ukraine was willing to sign that first treaty before the war broke out until the US convinced the UK to send Boris Johnson to urge Zelenskyy not to sign. And our media and Corn Pop said over and over again how this incursion was "unprovoked." Now Joe is trying to convince us that Russia won't stop with Ukraine, but will try to keep expanding their territory, lol. All the while we are provoking them even more in a deadly contest that could very well end us all in a nuclear Armageddon. Another thing Maher won't admit is the genocide in Gaza.

The only acceptable way to teach religion in public schools is in history, literature, and comparative religion courses.
AKA a Humanities course. Be careful about the History exception, though. In Utah, there is a tendency to present events from the Book of Mormon as if they were actual, historical events. Just watch the local news there, sometimes. It's unsettling.
@@starshake8998 Let Utah do what they want, it's only one state out of 50. Or, as part of the curriculum, include a concept that part of the religion is the belief that the Book of Mormon is actual history, as well as the fact that there is debate about whether or not it is actual history.
And public school teachers are Terrible at teaching these subjects.

@craigs.6642 one is he said the US didn't start the Ukraine war. And our media and Corn Pop said over and over again how this incursion was "unprovoked." WW2 There was a draft. They could not fill the numbers without a draft.
😮 They are considering DRAFTING WOMEN too.
Feminism?
Exactly - both sides of the American Civil War ended up using the draft, the United States used a draft upon entry into WWI, and beginning in September 1940, the US had its first "peacetime" draft as it prepared for WWII...and then kept the draft for Korea and Vietnam. Whether we can ever expect a war of such a magnitude to require millions of Americans under arms is a conversation topic - but that these three educated adults couldn't put a draft in context is...well...that...
And who will raise the babies and hold the domestic workforce if women are drafted?

I used to watch Chris Matthews about 23 years ago in college, and he was always so sharp with his historical and political reference, but man, he is showing his age. The references he throws out now seem almost like non sequiturs.
Ukraine War harkens back to the Iraq War, which most liberals strongly opposed. Assange harkens back to Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers. Just like the anti-draft guys wanting a draft in their old age, the two old liberals are now the establishment.
Yes. Likewise!
I miss how so many of these things and people used to be. I didn't need to know who a journalist voted for. They didn't call half of the people in the United States terrorists. It's just - more sad than anything else, I *like* being around people who don't always agree with me. That is how we all grow. But it feels like one has to pick a side now. How could Assange be a traitor since he isn't an American citizen?
Because he told American secrets...and because Bill said so haha.
He's not a traitor (and neither am I). He's a Russian puppet, like Tulsi Gabbard.
@@bbchester6 Idk how I feel about Assange but I do know that he didn't go through the proper channels, he was fed the details by our enemies like Putin, and he didn't do it out of the goodness of his heart or anything. There was money and power in it for Assange and our enemies, and people have been locked up for far less......so I'd say Assange is not welcome here in America based on that. He's gonna get killed is my theory.
Bill is correct. Assange is a pasty coward and hypocrite. Put him on a 1943 US Carrier in the South Pacific and he keeps his pasty mouth shut about military "secrets". Why? @@RosieTipton-me8rd Australian and American defense policy and strategy are very very closely linked. And the US provides a lot of defense cover for Australia and has since WWII. Indeed, treason is when you betray your own country. Assange essentially did with Manning what Greenwald did with Snowdon. Only Greenwald brought in major newspapers around the world to be complicit in the publishing, so if they went after him they'd have to go after the newspapers too. Smart.
Did Assange encourage Manning to leak the information and would that constitute a crime? Even if the answer to this is yes, there's the jurisdiction hurdle to overcome, no?
Wow. I used to respect Chris Matthews as a journalist. Not anymore. He sounds like every left-leaning talking head fearmonger. When journalists and pundits tell us all the terrible things that will happen in a Trump presidency, they’re really telling us what is happening during Biden’s presidency.
