Every time there is a new upload I am hyped, but the moment the Lotr reference happened, It genuinely made my day.
Thanks for delivering good content as always @Zeltik!
@Jason Peters it was intentional. He even put a few seconds of the song at that part.
A dark secret? When I was young I dressed myself as a girl because I wanted to be like every other Gerudos...
At 8:18 you can here a quiet Zeltik repeating what he said.
Now that IS a secret lol! Must have been an issue from syncing up the audio, you've got a sharp ear
No, the darkest game over is when link tumbles down a mountain at full speed and is found mangled at the bottom
That was the most hilarious and sad game over I have ever seen. Lel

I believe the darkest Zelda secret is that Tingle is really the source of Malice....
YESS
No. Not just that. Demise was a creation of tingle's to steal the triforce. Not for ultimate power but so nothing can stop him. That is why he helps you in majora's mask. He can't beat majora. He needed a hero to do so.. So he sells maps. He wants to help you without making you a threat to him...

good thing I'm not alone, now I don't feel like I'm utter garbage at video games.
I honestly don't know how to quickly defeat Darknuts in The Minish Cap.
Ffffuck.
Absolutely same. I had to try several times. It is just funny that he stresses it more than once, that most peaple might not have seen this.
Yeah. It's quite difficult. It's like he thinks that the timer starts after the Darknut fights. Or he just didn't play it himself.
And once I realized you had to do it again if you lose against Vaati, I used a save state so I'd never have to do it again. (And then I never actually had to use it.)

Fun fact, while Western alchemy/magic uses a four element system, in the East they use a five element system: fire, water, earth, metal, and wood. Wood is often associated with wind because you can see the leaves of trees moving in the wind. This might also explain the connection between the Forest Temple and wind themes.

I feel like sometimes I'm the only one who doesnt see Zelda as a damsel in distress. Like... most every Zelda game off the top of my head that heavily features Zelda she is actively out and about fighting her own small war against whatever big bad is in the game. (Granted most are 3D Zelda's because more story, more advanced games in general being that we havent had a "new" 2D in forever)
Ocarina she literally trains to be a ninja and then goes around saving her people in small ways while Link is asleep. The only reason she is captured is because she stopped and helped Link on a constant basis.
Windwaker she is a pirate... do I need to say more? Before Link she commanded huge burly men and pretty much was the only big time ocean sailor. She literally swings in and kicks Ganon in the face after Link was bitchslapped across the floor. Only the end 2 dungeons have her "locked" away but that was by the King's command and it wasnt like she could really fight against that decision. The pure fact that she was a princess destined to save-ish Hyrule had her entirely speechless, of course she had to process it. And after being abducted and knocked unconscious, she wakes and still wants to kick more Ganon ass.
And Twilight Princess, for as much as she was a prisoner, she put herself into that position to save her kingdom. She was ready to absolutely throw down with Zant, sword in hand. Any chance she wasnt being closely monitored hour by hour by a guard, she was plotting. Plotting some way to fix everything. She gave her life force away (I think if I understood that scene correctly) to her friend and the only hope for Hyrule, which is alot braver then many of Hyrule's heroes. Always willing to fight, not many are actually willing to die though.
Skyward Sword played heavily on destiny being a factor, but that Zelda was tough. She was constantly on the run from some frankly terrifying things on the surface, managing to always stay one step ahead of the rather slow Link and get her job done and even after all of that, chose to help seal Demise despite knowing full well that she might never wake up.
I mean even Spirit Tracks (love the game honestly, but it is one of the weaker titles let's be honest, but still had FUN dungeons and good music, looking at you BOTW) had Zelda side by side with the hero in almost every dungeon trying to help whatever way she could despite not even having a body.
I mean yeah, in the end it does end up being Link to face the big bad, but he is also the one you play as. Most of the time Zelda is forced into a position that the boy from the forest, farm, or small town would never end up in and still kicks ass in the best way she can.
And this is why Zelda is the best princess.
Thank you! Finally someone acknowledges that Zelda isn't a damsel in distress, not in the true sense of the phrase. Not that there's anything wrong with stories that want to do that, but that doesn't apply to most Zeldas, rather the opposite is often true.
And finally someone else recognizes TP Zelda's surrender was out of protection for her kingdom, she was clearly trying to preserve as much life as possible, even at the cost of her own peace of mind. Every choice she made in that game was self-sacrificial and selfless, she gave everything she could to avoid innocent bloodshed. That's what a monarch or politician is actually supposed to do-serve his or her people above all.
EDIT: To add to this, people seem to forget that she possesses the Triforce of Wisdom, and had she selfishly and foolishly stood her ground during the invasion of Hyrule, it would've likely resulted in mass slaughter and she would've been responsible for whatever befell her subjects in failing to protect them. So there's that wisdom at play. She didn't surrender out of cowardice, but rather wisely bid time for her kingdom with her sacrifice.
I don't understand why feminists rag on Zelda so much when she's such an excellent role model and interesting character, they clearly don't know anything about her. Sorry for the rant, it's just that Zelda is legitimately one of my favorite characters in video games and media in general.
this is so in depth and i love it ❤️ Zelda is the most badass ever
You could've just said she's way more useful that Princess Peach.
Cause at the end of the day, she's needs the Hero of Courage as well as other incarnations of him. She will be in Ganon/Ganondorfs clutches until Link puts a sword through him.
The darkest moment from skyward sword is those guardians from the spirit realm. Never been more afraid of anything even from the real world. Lol

Yup, it did for me too, and really messed with me as a young child.
Well, I was an adult on an emulator so I managed to get there in time on my first playthrough. Was surprisingly scared for her when compared to how little I cared about Peach getting kidnapped in Sunshine recently.
Me too! But this was a month ago... And I'm 15 years old...
@@nousername191 I mean, Mario is generally much less serious than Zelda though.
@@dylanstafford3414 Generally, yes. Though it has its moments, some of which are just obvious wrong choices for the player, such as Dimentio placing saplings on Mario and Luigi's heads to eat away at their free will. Or willingly choosing to become Shadow Queen Peach's slave, in which case the game openly tells you that not only did the WORLD end, but Peach herself as well.
7:57 Literally an indentation of the Goron symbol.
The Goron symbol doesn't have a separate spike on the bottom, the main portion of the symbol is a single pointy piece.

I love how I knew immediately which game had the darkest game over. Minish Cap was always one of my favorites.

@@dylanstafford3414 I heard that bell once when I was a child, actually, and it scared the shit out of me. So I vowed to save her. Kinda dumb at the time, but now that I'm 19, it seems reasonable that I was scared of failing.

Tbh TAS Link is really a joke, at least for me
Yes
I hadn't considered the Shadow Beasts might be wearing shields on their heads, that's a really cool detail! I had always assumed Midna's "misuse" of the shield was either a culture gap thing or because her arms were too short to handle it comfortably. But thinking on it now, both the standard and honour-guard Shadow Beasts have etchings and snake motifs on their "masks" that match the Fused Shadows Midna wears and the armoured mask that Zant has. This marks them as manufactured items rather than organic. Midna also mentions the Twili are a peaceful people, so it's totally possible Twili "warriors" are accustomed to using shields and unarmed combat techniques rather than wielding weapons (why not arm the Shadow Beasts if they're so big and strong? Perhaps they don't know how to use weapons to begin with.)
Nice expansion on the idea =D
Psh, that wasn’t very dark. I could still see it.

Unpopular opinion but Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword visually aren't nearly as good as most of OoT3D and def not MM3D, even considering the over-brightening

Hot take: Botw takes place in the timeline branch that nobody ever talks about, the timeline where Zelda dies at the end of Minish Cap. Evidence: Minish were supposed to be in botw. Why I like it? Explains why there's no concrete answer to where it fits in the timeline.
This was meant to be a silly joke but I also think it's an interesting possibility.

I absolutely love Minish cap, I've played through it multiple times, and I've never known the last chime had a timer. That one blows me away lol
I always thought the face masks that the enemies in Twilight Princess wore were just means to control residents of the Twilight Realm that were twisted to fit the designs of their master, similarly to what happened to Midna.
Finally someone highlights Vaati's power! Literally the legend of Zelda's most potent villain!
*Imma drop this "theory" here: the final boss of link's awakening is the combined souls of the enemies of your past, seeking their revenge.*
*proof?: it explains its ability to change its form over and over again the past bosses. Along with the fact that it constantly refers its self as "we" and "our"*
But then you remember links awakening is a dream and nothing in it really happened
"The time limit being so long, means that most players will never experience it"
So you're just going to insult childhood me like that?

9:30 While they may be acting as some sort of shields, I believe their true purpose is subjugation devices.
The Shadow Beasts wearing masks and relying on their senses is actually a really interesting theory, considering the original version of them had no mask nor eyes. (There's only one trailer with like two seconds of footage of the beta Shadow Beast, but the model still exists in the files.)

I've always thought that the entire pre-boss sequence in The Minish Cap was timed. Even though I sometimes feel that Nintendo has forgotten Vaati, He still remains my favorite villain and final boss of all time (without mentioning he is the hardest Zelda boss imo)
I agree with the lack of enemy variety. BOTW 2 should really have more enemies.
I hope they have dodongos
@@daleyhuard3675 My boi
NateDaBossRulez It's unfortunate. The saddest part is that Nintendo definitely intended for BotW to have more enemy variety than it did. They ended up having to cut at least half of the planned content out of the final product, and that is only judging from the Creating a Champion book alone. Who knows what else they had planned backstage that has been kept a secret?
@@angelmendez-rivera351 think about how full the BOTW world was I'm sure it would have been packed full of stuff but they could for example the frame rate you sometimes get in the korak forest tells you the detailed art style of the game with that much stuff is sometimes to much for the switch and definitely on the wii-u. So maybe they prioritised system space, frame rate and polishing of the game rather than add more enemies also on the switch BOTW is the largest game I have coming it at 947 MB the closest is pokemon sword at 763 MB it's a huge game that is full of stuff
@@dylanstafford3414 Oh boy! I can't wait to remote bomb some dodongos!

@cool cat gaming actually it's a salamander. Salamanders can endure ferocious heats so it makes sense to have it in death mountain
Yeah I was surprised he didn't mention that. Rudania is 100% a big mechanical dodongo. The name is even based on Darunia, sage of fire
Hmm, imagine if the failed ending of Minish Cap led to Lorule's creation in Link Between Worlds.
I had no idea about the Minish Cap one...despite it being one of my favorite games, and one of the only Zelda game I've beaten multiple times. Cool.
When it comes to dodongos, I think Nintendo also left some references to dodongos in death mountains octoroks and fireblight, both enemies that you can defeat by tossing bombs at them while they inhale

I am only 1:37 into this video, and Zeltik you just made my day already, starting out talking about Zelda games and then transitioning into a Tolkien reference, complete with the musical shift 💖 That was completely beautiful, and awesomely unexpected 💖 THANK YOU FOR THE SMILE TO START OUT MY DAY! BLESS YOU! 😁
1:07 that is such an amazing view; the great sea’s waves moving up and down with an island in the distance. I love wind waker so much man
Not having a Wind Fish appearance in Wind Waker was a missed opportunity IMO.
I don't know how such an appearance would work. I think it would be more reasonable to expect a reference such as what Majora's Mask did with the Ballad of the Wind Fish. Then we have the Wind Fish either directly or indirectly in all three timelines, and then Skyward Sword comes out and Levias is like 'Sup' because he's totally the Wind Fish.
Devon Smith Although Hyrule Historia and the Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia released by Nintendo both claim that Link's Awakening is a sequel to A Link to the Past, nowhere in either of the games is this stated. In fact, there is no reason this game should be in any particular timeline: the events of the game are compatible and consistent with literally any placement on the timeline, other than, say, before Skyward Sword. In fact, it makes perfect sense for Link's Awakening to be a sequel of the Wind Waker, and then the Wind Waker could have included the Wind Fish, so that there were would be a historical precedent for Link's Awakening's boss. This was definitely possible.
Also, taking the timeline seriously is a big mistake on your part. Even Nintendo does not take it seriously, and it is not hard to see just how bad of a joke it is. So it literally does not matter if it fits with the timeline or not. The timeline is already inconsistent and a mess. And Link's Awakening barely counts as a the Legend of Zelda game, since it was not even intended to be released as a game, this was a testing side-project.
@@angelmendez-rivera351 You don't need to worry about that. I don't take the timeline seriously, I know it was just Nintendo culling something together to give the obsessive lore nerds something to debate about among themselves and get off their back. Honestly they should have seen that backfiring; ever since one of the most asked question about every new Zelda title when it's first announced is 'where does it fit into the timeline'. But just because I don't take it seriously doesn't mean I can't mention it, honestly I just gave the lore nerds about 3 weeks worth of something to chew on in their own little world with that one comment, so it's a win-win.
That was a pleasant read, thanks guys.
Phantom Hourglass, WW's sequel, basically has the wind fish iirc.
"secret alternate ending to minish cap" are you sure about that? didnt everyone see it their first playthrough? sometimes the darknuts just wont cooperate especially considering they're shielded, the original models of the GBA didnt come with a backlight making the entire experience harder, a small screen to begin with, and the 2 button item limitation that included the shield. I failed it time and time again, making minish cap one of the few zelda games i remember failing more than i succeeded. Im not even sure ive ever beaten the final boss due to the finicky four sword mechanic. It took several sessions to get past them, made even more annoying by having to redo the entire gauntlet when dying to the final boss or running out of time.
Love the LOTR ref, and subtle music- great work as always!
I really appreciate you actually mentioning Minish Cap in your videos.

OK only a few moments into this one and I have to say your soundscaping is incredible. The slight hint of the LOTR theme as you Quote Galadriel was mind blowing. Great Job!
These are genuinely good. A lot of videos claim to have "facts you didn't know about Zelda" but are in fact ones easily known by the fanbase. These however were genuinely surprising. Especially the Windwaekr song reference and the Dodongo footprints. I wanna go on BoTW now and find them. You're the best Zelda youtube Zeltik, love your stuff.
My man just said the Forest Temple from OOT is his favorite dungeon in Zelda.. i knew he was brilliant
"Twilight Princess is the darkest zelda game."
Majora's Mask: "Am I a joke to you?"
Alternate dimension faced with the threat of a moon being sucked into it (which would have killed everyone long before 3 days till impact anyway) whose hero has the ability to time travel, vs an Alternate dimension actively taking over the only world you've known, waging war with the royal family, and has even sealed god like beings AND the Master Sword, and your hero has been cursed to take the form of an animal until previously mentioned god-like beings can some how get their power back. Yes, Majora's Mask is a joke to Twilight Princess.
The hero, who has constantly worked to save everyone, slowly learning all of the secrets of a new world. Cursed to take the forms of those who have already passed on. The slow realization that you cannot save everyone. The sheer grief and agony exhibited by the characters.
And when you fail people? A girl falls to madness. 7 Zora children die. A monkey is executed for a crime he did not commit. A princess remains trapped deep within the forest. An elderly woman is lost in the woods, never to be found again. A soldier remains trapped within enemy territory. And the list continues.
It is impossible to save everyone. And once again, everyone Link meets will forget him.
To top it all off, you gain nothing from this. In Twilight Princess, you save the village children, which is what you set out to do. Link never finds his friend in Majora's Mask.
I will say, Twilight Princess is visually darker, but in tone, Majora's Mask wins.
Majora's Mask a dark game if it's darker is a matter of opinion. I personally think it is darker but that's mostly because the villain is not after anything and just wants to just causes suffering. It kills three "people" not in a heroic fight for good but because like everyone else they just got caught up in it's insane schemes. In it's warped mind it sees Link as the "bad guy". Alternate dimension or not it does a lot of horrible things both directly and indirectly.
I like what you did at 1:21 with the LotR music!!! Epic!
I like this format a lot, putting a few secrets in every video instead of stretching one out for 6-8 minutes
I can't wait for the next Zelda so bad that I think I'm going to cry

When the ‚Shadow Temple‘ music starts, you always get me and I think back to Twilight Princess, my favourite game, and to your BotW theory video. It‘s some kind of nostalgia, but this track is just f*cking great and matches the theme of your video, regardless of what you‘re doing!
I really like learning about these little secrets nintendo puts in the games. Keep up the good vids!
My man Zeltik, did you just kill Hyrule Highlights.
I actually seen that Game Over several times as a kid because I had trouble defeating the Dark Nuts in time.
I always think im gonna know the secrets or facts your gonna say but you surprise me every time (Great vid btw)
I hadn't made the connection between the shadow beasts wearing things on their faces and Midna putting the shield on her own face before. That's so clever!
_THICC GHOSTS_
What about the giant skeleton found in Goro Cove? It seems very likely that it’s a Dodongo skeleton to me.
i thought the great skeletons were dodongo bones
zachary mcleod I don’t think that they are but I’m also not completely sure 🤷♂️
Love that little Lord of the Rings quote in the beginning, completed with the music that goes with it.😁 then switches back to zelda music
The Game Over for failing to stop The Imprisoned in Skyward Sword was rather dark, as well. Every one of my "Game Overs" against The Imprisoned were due to taking too long, or putting myself in harm's way in an attempt to beat it faster (especially that second iteration, where it was hazardous to get close, and couldn't Groosinate yourself at any time).
Zelda’s death via Vaati. That’s one of the scenarios we don’t see in the Zelda history timeline.
they sadly never did that timeline
Goddamnit, now I want a "Vaati wins" timeline, with all the variations it could bring
Zelda has almost died a few times throughout the series. You’d think Hylia would come up with a way to keep her descendants safe without use of powers (bloodline or Triforce) or a guardian (Sheikah or Link). There was a comic where, in BotW, the roles were reversed. Link is the one holding Calamity Ganon while Zelda is the one in the Chamber of Resurrection. Zelda could be the one fighting to save Hyrule and an incumbent Link.
Its even worse considering that Zelda is literally her reincarnation.
Tania Bams Well... you have to realize most of the games in the series were created not having a timeline in mind. The idea that Zelda was the goddess Hylia did not exist in Nintendo's minds officially until Skyward Sword was released, which is one of their most recent releases. Also, most of the Legend of Zelda is inspired by Shinto mythology. And Shinto gods and goddesses are really strange and unconventional to Western thought. So, of course, Hylia does not do what a reasonable human being would do, since she is ultimately inspired by Shinto deities.
This is why the plot of the Legend of Zelda, when you consider the timeline, is trash.
Hylia specifically had to give up her immortality to stop Demise. Powers and guardians are the best a mortal can get, really.
Joinsideke I don't think you understand the problem with that logic. Hylia is a goddess. She is on par with the golden goddesses who literally created the universe. If you have to give up your immortality to defeat something like Demise, then you're a mediocre goddess at best. And if that sacrifice doesn't even amount in being able to provide the mortal incarnations known as Zelda with infinite knowledge and fear-inducing magic powers to keep her protected at all times, then... that's a problem. It means your sacrifice was mostly a waste of time, and that you're not a very efficient goddess. And if the triforce is the best one could ask, why didn't she bother to just use the triforce against Demise anyway so that she didn't have to make any sacrifices? She clearly can use the Triforce, since Zelda uses it... and well, Zelda IS Hylia. And the triforce is supposedly omnipotent. Is it not? Of course, the other games suggest otherwise, but then that shows a problem with the tLoZ continuity and the lore as a whole. It's clearly inconsistent. And that inconsistency is why Hylia is portrayed as being so powerful yet so incoherently weak at the same time. In a consistent narrative, Hylia would actually behave like a goddess, and then she simply wouldn't have made such an inefficient sacrifice that amounted to her doom and Hyrule's doom, ultimately.
Well explained
Yay! This was a really cool video! Got me hyped up for zelda month thats for sure!
I welcome this Zelda Secrets series. I'm looking forward to the next one.
"Hey how's it going guys, it's Zeltik here. And Zelda is a massive franchise. So sit back as we dive into 5 more secrets you may have missed in Zelda."
Oops wrong channel.
Close enough
That lord of the rings reference caught me of guard and i love it
1:30 I greatly appreciated the little Fellowship of the Ring movie reference, there! ;)
My favorite Zelda secrets are all the musical nods to other games. It's nice to know that no matter game you're playing (after Link to the Past) you know you'll eventually hear music from older titles. :) Sidon's bass theme as the Ocean bass theme from the Wind Waker is still one of my favorite. :D
Do you think they do it on purpose or bc they’ve just run out of music ideas?
@@Jimmyboygohome Mh, I like to think that they simply enjoy using the songs that they have. I mean of course they're going to use the main theme as something to get us hyped for adventure or use it as a plot point in games (SS). The song that I like (Fairy's Fountain) is so iconic to the series, it's practically in every single Zelda game since it's introduction in Link to the Past. Plus they haven't run out of ideas at all, there are new musical scores popping up in each game with new composers and their take on the series. I just find that throw back scores like the Ocean theme appearing in BOTW as a prominent characters theme is interesting and really celebrates games from the past. :)
Thank you for the lovely comment friend, have a nice day! :D
