What is your favorite Dreamworks movie that we should watch? Let us know!!
Have you watched Shrek now that I'm thinking of it?
you should react to mr peabody and sherman the only one who reacted to mr peabody and sherman was timotheereacts so james and ninetailedbrush please react to one of the dreamworks movies mr peabody and sherman
My favorite Dreamworks movie is Spirit: The Stallion of the Cimarron.
Have you seen Shark tales? Its hilarious haha its bad but in the sense that its good its my all time favourite dreamWorks movie
This one is up there! I also love Megamind, How to Train Your Dragon, Prince of Egypt, Catch me if you can, and She's the Man.
I love how this movie completely ignores the language barrier that should, by all means, be there. Like, the people of El Dorado just speak Spanish, apparently. Don't question it.
😂😂
My personal theory is that the city has a magical power that just allows people who speak different languages to speak to each other. Plus the two leads didn’t speak to Chel and the guards when they saw the stone outside the city. (This isn’t any less plausible than Tzekel-Kan bringing a giant stone jaguar to life)
@@dakotahmays1437 Babbelfish and Farscape comes immediately to my mind, lol.
This is sci-fi standard.
A "power" to translate.
Even Star Trek pulled it.
Enjoy the story instead of obsessing over details of FICTION.
Just to mention: the reason they lost all the gold at the end was because this was actually planned to be the first film in a trilogy, with it ending on a 'the adventure continues' note to be picked up in the next movie as they're on the hunt for another famous lost treasure.
Sadly the film underperformed at the box-office (in fact to date, it's Dreamworks' ONLY animated film that DIDN'T make a profit), so the planned sequels were cancelled. There's smatterings of information about them online, we pretty much only have titles and extremely rough summaries for them (we don't even know what treasures they'd have been looking for), but to this day there's a small but vocal fanbase that still want to see the sequels, or at least for the film to be given another shot somehow (re-releases, a remake, etc).
aww that's so sad. I would have loved to see more
I would LOVE to see more of their adventures! I love all of them T_T
we need more animated Dan and Arin from game grumps.
well it is based on an old tv series/movies(cant remember which) from around the same time as colour came into cinema
the series had a lot of 4th wall breaks(which if you pay attention to the horse it is the only one who dances to the non diegetic music)
Live action remake starring Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth. I can assure it will be a box-office hit with just them being the main cast.
This is such a great film and the amount of adult jokes 😂. It’s unfortunate we never had a sequel like planned, I would have loved another adventure with this trio.
In theory, yes, but animated sequels usually suck because they're soulless cash-grabs intended to capitalize on the success of the original instead of being someone's passion project. So I'm more glad that didn't happen vs the small chance that it would be good.
@@KaizerHiwatari it was a passion project toh, they planned from the beginning to make a trilogy and had all the stories down but the first movie underperformed at the box and they had to scrap those ideas
@@KaizerHiwatari some are good tho, I loved lion king 2 and frozen 2 is better than frozen 1. And toy story 3 is better than toy story 1 !!
Now _this_ would be a movie that would benefit from a revival!! Forget HocusPocus _here_ is the Nostalgia fest that is just _waiting_ for a sequel!
@@CupofLoffee taste
The tribute of gold to xibalba is actually historically represented in real life. Archaeologists have found massive gold tributes in various sinkholes or cenotes in the area. I love this movie with its little bits of history.
But gold didn’t count as actual currency to them. It’s just that gold is heavy and soft and isn’t really good for making tools or anything but pretty jewelry.
Have you guys watched The Prince of Egypt yet? Its another great Dreamworks animation that has elements of 3D animation as well. If you havent seen it i think you guys would really like it
Yes please!!
Atlantis is another good one that's kinda like this
Every animation reaction I feel like I say this 😂 my gut is that it’s on the roster but they are placing it last in the dreamworld line up since it is so popular
Ditto on that
@@thesmokypurr i like atlantis, loved watch it,BUT is actually not good,it have a gigantic plot hole about the main reason of kida ask for help "people don't know how to read, culture is dying, they forgot what they are" is IMPOSSIBLE cause all of them were adults and alive at the time 8800 years ago even the still alive king so is impossible for them to forgot that things, kida herself have more than 8800 years, she was little? Yes BUT all the survived people no,even the king was am adult at the time and is still alive duting the movie. so yeah giant plot hole
This movie and The Emperor's New Groove are two of the best and most rewatchable ever. I can literally recite all the dialogue
Me too.
My uncle worked on this as an animator. He died several years ago, but we still have original sketches and concept artwork. Chel character studies (before she had a name and before she was complete) as well as some cool concept for bat warriors (which weren't used bc they looked too much like Man-Bat) and some environment studies, some of which CAN be seen in the movie! BTW; They're INTENDED to be read as a bisexual polycule by the end. Gotta squeeze that in there because it was one of the things (like Animorphs) that somehow just appeals to the LGBTQ+ groups and we all go "Ah, yes. Of course."
Omg that's so cool!
Fun fact, this and Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas are PG but actually aren't kids' movies. I remember going to Blockbuster as a kid and getting Sinbad to rent and it was actually priced differently because it wasn't categorized as children's media
This proves that animation isn't just for kids! It's cinema!
In early drafts, the armadillo was revealed to be an actual god following along with them. Hence the volcano scene lol
El dorado has elements of Inca, Aztec and Mayan culture, it was made this way so that you cannot locate "El dorado" in a specific place, just know that it is in Latin America.
Also, I find it too funny that Hernán Cortés was made to look so big and intimidating in the movie when in history books he is described as serious, skinny and even silent.
Fun fact: Hernán Cortés married several indigenous women
Well the animators took inspiration from Yucatán for the location
If you call abduction and tortured compliance marriage.
@@nkbujvytcygvujno6006 that's true, my bad
El Dorado, Prince of Egypt, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron were the dreamworks movies i had on repeat as a kid! Definitely recommend all of them so I’m glad you watched this ❤
Great reaction guys!!
Me too.
Same. Especially Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron because I was going through a horse phase (still waiting on a pony for Christmas)
I always found it interesting that El Dorado and Atlantis came out within a year of each other (roughly), featured lost civilisations with priceless items, had great humour and a combination of 2D + 3D, and did not do well at the box office but DID build a loyal fanbase (including myself). Those two movies are honestly incredible, but box office success just wasn't on the cards for them at the time unfortunately. Cinemagoers didn't want this type of movie for some reason. The stars were not in position!
The road of el dorado was so underrated, the animation really interesting, the characters grey and it had the balls to go dark both in animation, storyline and in relationships. Again like Treasure Planet and Atlantis, it became victim of the fall of 2D animation.
I’d highly recommend Legend of the guardians: owls of Ga’Hoole, The Adventures of TinTin, Meet the Robinsons, Epic, Wonder Park, Sinbad, Shark Tale, The Croods, The Lorax, Ice Age movie, Kung Fu Panda trilogy.
I'd love to see them react to the Adventures of Tintin! I feel like it's pretty underrated
YESSSSSS
Ga’Hoole would be awesome the animation, soundtrack, and plot are so beautiful!
The only one on here I don't care for is Tin Tin but all the other ones especially 'Meet the Robinsons' it relates to me alot bcuz im also adopted so this one is close to my heart and hell yes to 'Shark Tale' and 'Ice Age'. And Atlantis is definitely a fvaorite of mine when it premiered my family and i went to go see it for my birthday in June so ive loved it ever since its sooooo good lol :D
Wait I think they've done Kung Fu already. I can't remember but maybe.
I mean kinda. Really, a lot of the movies around that time were victims of a lack of advertising, because no one really believed in 2D anymore. It became a self-fulfilling prophecy - the movies failed because the studios were convinced they would.
Also, a lot of parents were angry at the adult themes kids movies around that time had. I know for a fact that Atlantis got in trouble for depicting guns - El Dorado and Treasure Planet likely had similar problems. It's funny, because everyone nowadays says "Oh, kids could handle so much more back then" - but in reality, parents were angry about these movies AT THE TIME.
WOOOO!!! Yes!! This one is an amazing classic. Still crossing my fingers for The AristoCats.
Ooh, yes! I was thinking of that one the other day.
YES!!
I _love_ this movie lmao.
Soooo underrated.
Its has humor, amazing songs, and beautiful designs.
Beautiful designs ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@@TheMadMadman
Very beautiful designs.
Truly eye opening
I love this movie. This and Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron were my childhood (in terms of Dreamworks). Thank you so much for reacting to it. Great reaction
Same! Spirit was so underrated
@@HannahG-nk2mf Ikr. Another underrated masterpiece is Prince of Egypt
Fun historical fact: the aztecs would, on finding gold, throw it to the bottom of lake Texacoco. The gold was too soft to be useful, and they didn't have a money system, and they liked how it glittered under the water. When the Spanish came, they saw all the gold just lying in the lake, and thus began the legend of El Dorado, a land where gold is so plentiful the inhabitants just throw it away.
A prime example of one man's trash being another man's treasure.
Noooo, where are the songs!? This is a great film. And the chief is low-key one of the best characters.
This was one of my all time favorite movies growing up and is still one of my favorites today. It was so fun to watch you guys react to it and I'm glad you liked it! I don't know much about animation tbh but I've always felt this one held up pretty well. Dreamworks is rather hit and miss but El Dorado is a winner for sure.
Me too.
"I don't know if there is another animation that goes this hard."
Treasure Planet standing off to the side... 'Really?'
Im 27 and to this day, my family still yells at sports games: TULIO!! THE HIP!! THE HIP!!!
This movie is very adult lol. I loved it. My sister would watch over and over as kids and quote everything.
“And what? Took all the really big rocks?! The SCOUNDREL!”
One of my favorite theories about this movie is that the armadillo, Bibo, is a guardian god. There are a few examples of what if but the most straight forward possibility is at the start when the volcano is about to erupt, Bibo is chasing after the butterfly and playing back and forth but when the guys yell stop, Bibo is startled and stops. Of course, the volcano does as well. When they first met Bibo, he was being attacked by a snake and Miguel & Tulio unintentionally saved him. Theory posits he helped get them through the forest. He obviously helped them in the hiphip game. When trying to figure out the plan to stop Cortez, it was Bibo who knocked over the cup to give them the idea.
Something interesting about that Ball game is that they only could use the hips and other body parts to hit the ball but not the foot.
My favorite theory is that Miguel and Tulio were in fact gods. They lost their memories and powers with the disolvement of their religion. Some believe they are Apollo (Miguel) and Mercury/Hermes (Tulio). The Armadillo is also believed to be the equivalent of Zeus in the pantheon. I just love this movie so much.
They were slowly regaining their powers through out the movie, due to the belief of the citzens of El Dorado. That's why they keep surviving and escaping by luck. If you notice the wound Miguel had from the game on his forehead, is completely gone later that same night. Fast healing.
I love this film so much! I watched this on VHS on repeat as a kid.The songs were amazing and the comedy was as golden as the city. I loved how much character they gave to the horse and I feel like he paved the way for other horse characters like Max in Disney's Tangled. I find it clever how the horse also mouths "It's Eldorado", when they first see the city- showing how the horse is also along for the ride! 🤭
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid, use to watch it a ton. I LOVE the art and music of this so much.
White noise Reacts - in el Dorado , chel is played by Rosie Perez a singer/Dancer/actress.
I dunno if you've guys seen "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas" yet, but that one is also a good nostalgia hit
One of the most underrated animated movies from DreamWorks
I always thought it was because he abandoned the gods, thus they abandoned him as well.
I don't know if anyone has already told you this but the Leyenda del Dorado is a legend of the indigenous natives in the lands of Colombia.
It speaks, as the movie says more or less (I say more or less because in the movie they combined many Latin American native cultures), of a city made of gold. The legend was associated to a ritual that the natives did in the Guatavita Lagoon. Where the new cacique threw gold into the lagoon to get the "throne".
All this symbolism of "El Dorado" is super important in Colombia. The most important airport in the country is called "El Dorado", a Shakira album is also called that way xd. Even in the gold museum there is a figure that represents the ritual that was performed.
Damn two movies reaction what did we do to deserve this ❤
It's not what we did, though it is nice.
@@Luna303 oh
@@elizahmoran3855 Sorry if I sounded harsh or anything. It's probably due to their schedule or something.
@@Luna303 oh no you’re fine 😂
@@elizahmoran3855 Okay good, sometimes I am bitchy, just checking.
the voice actor of Cortes is Jim Cummings. Same voice actor for Winnie The Pooh, Tigger, Pete, Tazmanian Devil, Kaa, and many Disney character
If you liked this movie, you should definitely watch and react to the following. Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron, Shrek, God of Egypt, Treasure Planet, and I think one called Atlantis.
It's Prince of Egypt, not God of Egypt. If you mean the 2D movie!
Such a an underrated movie! It’s a breath of fresh air plus the adult jokes will have anyone wheezing. If you like this movie I would suggest Sinbad legends of the seven seas 🦋
Tulio did Miguel SO wrong, and I wonder wha would've happened if Miguel went after Chel instead (she seemed into Tulio, but still).
You should react to more Dreamworks animated movies such as Prince of Egypt, Joseph: King of Dreams, and Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.
I don’t know if you’ve seen it yet but y’all should definitely check out The Prince of Egypt. Another Dreamworks movie and great animation. ❤
Guys...don't tell Nick aka Thor, but now whenever I see Miguel in this movie, he and Nick look alike lol😅
Definitely recommend rewatching this, you can see how all of the 'prophecies' and stories of the gods actually align to how the story unfolds. Even Chel kneeling before Miguel and Tulio on horseback, 'offering' the gold gift, is shown happening on the big rock before the waterfall :)
Grew up watching this movie and love it
So am I.
I remember seeing this in theaters, when I was a kid and still love it to this day.
Apparently it was supposed to be a series of movie based off the Ben Crosby Road to Comedies, which is why the jokes are all so adult. There's an analysis youtube video that breaks it all down. Also I heartily recommend the Prince of Egypt, Spirit and Sinbad as well as Kung Fu Panda. I'd also love it if the two of you could watch the Rankin-Bass Movies (Wind in the Willows, The Hobbit, The Last Unicorn and Flight of Dragons)
There are certian places in Mexico city where people gather to play ball game really similar to how it's shown in the film, that's pretty accurate
If you liked the comedy and interactions between the trio, the y'all should watch the "Road To..." movies from the 1940s starting Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. This movie is basically an animated homage to them!
Those are hilarious, especially if you’re familiar with those two personalities.
Kenneth Branaugh was also gilderoy Lockhart, the defence against the dark arts teacher in the second harry potter film
The ball game they play is pretty cool and has actually had a bit of a revival as of late. Back then, the balls were made out of solid rubber, so they might as well have been playing hacky-sack with a medicine ball! Havent gotten to try it myself but I hope to sometime
I remember i had this and the dreamworks Sinbad movie on a double dvd and i watched them both so much, now you guys gotta watch SInbad next
Beautifully animated movie and fun con throuple to root for. I will say though as much as I enjoyed it,
1 thing I never understood was how the most magically powerful character (crazy as he was) ended up powerless and captured in the end
This movie is a very funny and hilarious. A true DreamWorks movie classic.
To this day, this and Sinbad are my favorite animated DreamWorks films. I miss this era.
So am I.
2:26 that sailor who said "your dice are loaded!" is John Kramer from the Saw movies!
So excited that you guys are watching this one!
Hell yes!! I love dreamworks and Spirit is pretty much my favorite all time animated movie
Great Reaction guys! Loved your insights into the movie.
If you’re doing Dreamworks Movies I definitely recommend The Prince of Egypt, Tintin, and Kung fu Panda!
Good movie...incredible source of meme...It's doing something right !!
This whole movie is a set of incredibly lucky d20 rolls for bluffing 🤣 the luck on these guys is amazing
This is another movie that deserves more attention but thankfully seems to be slowly getting on the radar. :) I watched it a lot when it first came out, don’t know off the top of my head how many years before Treasure Planet but this movie is older than it looks, the visuals are so beautiful and smooth.
this one is definitely one of my childhood favorites along side the treasure planet & atlantis 1 for sure!
Omg yes! One of my favorite movies!l and I needed a laugh today 😄 Love your channel, keep it up! ❤️
Great video guys! After Spirit, you should check Sinbad - especially in terms of animation, it’s phenomenal
One movie I would be interested to hear your guys' commentary on is the movie Sinbad Legend of the Seven Seas (by dreamworks) - they use a fascinating animation style for the monsters that as a kid I only remember seeing in that movie! Super funny too :)
This movie is a favorite up there with Anastasia and Incredibles and as far as a fun adventure goes. Miguel was my favorite character he was so righteous. Recommendations: Spies in Disguise. Shark Tale. And Fox and the Hound
This was one of the ones I suggested after you guys watched Atlantis (I think that was the one... Because the comedy is sooo similar plus the whole city of legend storyline etc )
one of my favourite animated movies of all time. brilliant soundtrack. so so underrated.
Dreamworks have some of my alltime favourite movies, Road to El Dorado, Sinbad, Prince of Egypt & of course my all time favourite movie, Spirit
imo they mastered the 2D/3D combo, also famous for Shrek, Kung Fu Panda & HTTYD franchises
As an animator, one of you should know that animated films are not strictly for children. Some are not for children at all.
I kind of learned that the hard way when I saw Ninja Scroll one time when I was 9.
Saw this in a deserted cinema with my girlfriend (now wife). We obviously took advantage of absolutely no one else being there by... watching the movie. It was too good!
The same thing happened to me and my girlfriend in 2019 when we saw Jordan Peele's Us in an empty theater.
Recommendation for you to react: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012), this movie is underrated, but and good.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was indeed so cool❤
To all commenters below...Thor, James brother, reacted to Prince of Egypt earlier. Which usually means James has already seen it on his own. Ninetail Brush likely has not.
I think the reason the armadillo helped them was because they saved it from a snake during the Trail We Blaze sequence. I'm pretty sure it followed them around ever since, which is kinda cute
Fun fact: the ceremony where they toss gold into the lake is literally based off of the real world ceremony that inspired the legend of El Dorado.
When conquistadors found a particular mesoamerican City one of their ceremonies was this the way they cost the gold into the lake. And when they saw that they hiked themselves up assuming that the natives must have had so much gold they could literally afford to throw it away not realizing that in mesoamerican culture gold isn't really a valuable the way we consider it to be valuable. It's just pretty.
Overtime the level of gold that the conquistadors must have imagined the natives to have got more and more exaggerated until it became a whole damn City of Gold. 🤣
This is the first movie that I can remember seeing in theaters. I was 3 and I loved it
Yessss!! So glad you guys reacted to this movie!’ I recommend Sinbad and the Seven Seas!
Fun fact: Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline recorded a lot of their dialogue in the same recording booth together. That's why their banter flows so well, especially in the first sword fight.
This is my favourite animated movie from my childhood. I watched this with my brother several dozen times. I remember the entire script and all songs off by heart. I'm glad yous liked it.
Me too.
Another fun fact: In the original script, Miguel and Tulio were written as romantic partners, and some translations into other languages even include them referring to each other with terms of endearment. Obviously, in 2000 in the US that didn't fly so well, so they were written as just friends, but the subtext is still there.
Road to El Dorado is one of my favorites childhood animated movies! Also the next Dreamworks movie ya'll be seeing Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is also a another fond favorite watching as a kid. You guys should also check out Cartoon Saloon animated movies. Such as WolfWalkers and The Breadwinner which is a tearjerker given the subject matter and relevance of its story, also the Song of the Sea is also a real good one.
Fun Fact: The guy they got the map from is voiced by Tobin Bell a.k.a. Jigsaw from the Saw franchise
That’s what my brother told me.
Among other Chel was the Aztec goddess of jaguars. ✨👩🐯
When the bard and the rogue go on adventure by themselves.
At last, my icon's time has come! This movie never gets old- I was 12 when it came out and my family still quotes it all the time.
It's also one of the movies (along with Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Spirit, Sinbad, etc) that first got me interested in animation and why I studied it in college. A shame that ended up being right when studios decided 2D wasn't worth it anymore, lol. 3D is fun and all but it'll never have my heart like 2D does, and this era of beautifully blending the two didn't last nearly long enough.
OMMGGGG YAAAAYYY FINALLY THIS REACTION😭😭😭😭😭
12:37
"Where'd you get those?"
"Where was she keeping them?"
Classic lines X)
You guys definitely need to watch Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas next
This and Spirit? You guys are going deep into my childhood favorites! And if you guys are starting Dreamworks reactions i cant wait to see what else you watch, fingers crossed for Shark Tale, Over the Hedge, Prince of Egypt, and Kung Fu Panda!
Kenneth Branagh you know also from HP-Chamber of Secrets as Lockhart. Treasure Planet came out 2 years after Road to El Dorado.
Now there is a theory the armadillo is a god, if you rewatch it and the way it interacts with the butterfly, with the boys, and even the horse it makes you start to wonder.
this movie is so underrated! it's for real one of my favorites, i used to watch all the time when i was a kid
This is one of my favorite comfort movies!! Really excited to see this.
If you liked this animation, you’ll love The Prince of Egypt.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS! We back to dreamworks!
Are we watching Prince of Egypt tho?
I've watched it so many times when I was a kid.
u guys know that the ball game was really a thing? like, in the football history ancient Chinese and original people from America's (for ppl who is not from US, everyone in the america CONTINENT is American) used to play games with balls! I'm Brazilian and did a research about football history for a college paper and I just could think about this movie 😂
I loved this movie as a kid. I saw it while at a indoor public swimming pool that also had a massive movie theatre sized projector screen, so I got to swim, ride water slides, and watch a great movie.
This and Interstellar are my two favorite movies of all time, well both have Hans Zimmer
Can't wait to watch Spirit
oh damn, have either of you seen the prince of egypt?! because that is a stellar dreamworks movie
this movie was once described to me as a series of DnD Nat 1 and Nat 20 roles and I can't see it any other way
Where did that sailor get the map from? Cos it's existence implies someone had been there before and found the way before all this began.
.....
In a way Tzekel kan got what he wanted, he found a 'diety' that matched the right image and mindset, but what he missed was the possibility that his gods(or anyone like them) would see him as just another puny mortal like everyone else and he wasn't gonna be rewarded for his loyalty like he probably thought. Also considering how the opening was the gods providing a lush jungle paradise filled with life, I'm not sure where Tzekel kan got the notion they were the 'bloodthirsty rule with an iron fist' type, I'm taking that as a 'this is what i want rather than what they actually want' thing.
I actually missed seeing this movie in theaters, but bought it on vhs anyway despite never having seen it because it looked fun. didn't regret it once~😄
also, funnily enough, i never realized this movie was essentially a kids version of 'the man who would be king' until recently. :O
Those balls for that game were made of SOLID RUBBER. Heavy as hell and not as bouncy as you'd expect lmao
A fan theory i have to explain the volcano and the flying bit at the end with Miguel
i that the real gods were looking out for Miguel and tulio in order to help their people
