Problem for me is, I whenever I make music, I try to make something really awesome. Something I know other people will like. And this makes me kinda slow in producing. I dont wanna share shit songs. But I see other artists popping out every month a track, but I personally would never even play them. I have this strange pride, I want my music to sound good whenever its released. Not a rushed bullshit that I dont even like myself.

yeah ur right man...don't ever release something you don't like, that's not artistry. There are tricks you can use to produce dope shit faster. One tip is to save the new ideas you come up with when ur working on a track, you can save them in a folder and come back to them later. Templates are a must. Also my problem my first 3 years producing was trying to "re-invent the wheel" every time I made a new track. Use the dope shit you already made to create new tracks - This will speed up your workflow immensely, and will give your sound some consistency as well

Impossible to make money: says the guy with a 4,000 sq foot studio, with over $100,000 of audio equipment, a boat, and takes multiple vacations every year. Smh.
Dont get me wrong, respect to Jon for bossing, but Jon doesn’t want to be a DJ, he doesn’t want to tour, he doesn’t really even want to just make cool music...Jon wants to be a media mogul (think Deamou5, Dr Dre, Jaz-Z, etc).
Why would someone with no presence buy a huge studio, start a label, and spend 1/2 their time trying to network with industry insiders?
I just want to make music my friends like. As do most subscribers.
If the goal was to write a hit song and “blow up,” you can do that in a bedroom with Mac and some headphones. Pretty much every famous EDM producer went platinum on a desk in their dorm room. They didnt get the crazy studio until after.
Jon is on a mission to create a lifestyle, and this channel is part of that, presenting himself as a media entity that jet-sets off to Ibiza or Croatia.
Not hating at all, looks like a great life...but if we’re honest, it’s not really about the music. 80% of the videos are just self promotion. I’ve never seen a Serum tutorial on bass lines, or a video on programing drum grooves. This channel is about creating a persona and awareness for the brand.

I'll apologize if my thankfulness and admiration for everything you have achieved have made you uncomfortable. I am really NOT trying to suck up to you! All my posts with thanking and positive talking about you have been honest and from the heart! I am one of your biggest fans I'm sure. But I will take it easier from now. I can tell that you don’t like it because I haven't got even a like or comment for ages from you. And that makes me feel a little bit stupid. I'm really trying to support you as best I can. I bought your song on Beatport twice, I have listened to your last release on Spotify on loop for hours each day to get the count up and I have joined as a member on your channel. One of the reasons I comment a lot is also so UA-cam reads more activity on your channel. And I have done all that because I really respect you and łike you. But it has never been my intention to bother you or to suck up to you! So please accept my apology. I will continue to be your fan in a more silent way. Sorry!! Ole Marcus

I'm having a hard time making it onto playlists. I'm tooling over to be more EDM, pop. I have a music background but my expectations have been like he said. The idea of just reaching out to people seems impossible at this point. I like to produce, selling is the fact I don't know what Im doing. I'm at the point like he says, choosing a brand. He is proof I can just be me though, thanks. I still dream of a million streams a month Which makes it EDM or Metal?

  • @djnightshadowathens
    @djnightshadowathens 4 роки тому

I really admire what you've done with the passing of time. After a lot of sacrifices, personal time, a lot of effort you've reached a point where you do something you love for a living! That's amazing! Unfortunately i belong to the category you mention : Release a song and wait for the money haha. On top of that i have a day job to support me so time for producing is limited.
What do you have to say to someone who doesn't know anything about branding or marketing and isn't comfortable in front of a camera? Can you recommend a few basic steps or an online course (if there is any) that helps you with the aspect of music branding, promoting and marketing? Other than my website and socials i have no idea what to do to make a brand of my self over time. I've been standing still with zero plays for the last 2 years and i've been producing for 12. All of that just because i thought: "oh i will make a dope song, upload it everywhere and i will make a hit someday" boy was i wrong..

To be fair, it IS possible to make money making music. You could ghost produce, produce remixes for other artists, co-produce for and with artists, produce music for commercials and industrial videos, produce demos, produce trailer music, produce music for scores, produce for music libraries, etc. You are just trying to produce music for an extremely competitive genre and a few competitive platforms: Spotify and Apple Music. However, you are right that brand building and generating multiple income streams is the way to go.

I've never seen anyone that was a working musician successfully retire from only music by the age of 55 between 60. They all die or go broke living in a car/RV. There's so much investing you must do outside of music in order to have a retirement plan.

It is/was possible to make a living with music with PROs such as ASCAP and BMI supporting us. But now some greedy networks like The Discovery Channel and Netflix are actively trying to circumvent the royalty system and screw over their composers from collecting performance royalties. It sets a horrible precedent. Once that spreads throughout the industry it’s RIP for us music creators.

Es stimmt aber leider. Ich habe von 2014 bis 2017 bei einem Künstler-Management gearbeitet, die einige namhafte deutsche Musiker betreuen. Und auch die können sich (nur von ihrer Musik) nicht mehr finanzieren.

Very interesting. But I never thought that the Music alone makes you the money. But do it for music Not for the money do it with Passion

So basically your music can suck as long as your an Instagram model with a couple hundred thousand followers... Or you could always sell your soul for fortune and fame. I hear the price when down tho since everyone is doing it. Just be prepared when the devil comes to collect.

@happy pibble Thats what someone with over 16yrs of experience WORKING in the industry that has songs with famous ppl says. Name any top Artist and they could pull a bumb off the street and make him a top 10 artist. Its not about talent these days look how big 69 got and he is completely trash. you can make anybody a star with the right connections. Money talks and bullshit walks

    MfG
