- George Russell made the most of some fortuitous circumstances at the Austrian Grand Prix to snatch Mercedes first race win this year and just their second since the ground effect era began. It required a shocking double retirement from the race leaders but there was more to this victory than just that. Mercedes have been upgrading their car at an astonishing rate and they aren’t planning on slowing down any time soon. The team is preparing for a massive development push which they hope will get them more race wins and today, I’m going to check it out, so don’t go anywhere.

I’m very pleased for George. He’s had to endure people saying Lewis is better even though the results don’t bear that out. George is the future Lewis is history.
Not even in his dreams. George will never be another Nico, let alone Hamilton.

I don't think anyone said George is better than Lewis but you can't deny he is having a bad season by his standards
I’ll state George is the better driver. If he beats Lewis this year he’s won 2 of their 3 seasons together. Lewis is sadly washed out. 😅

It wasn't anything but lucky he was 15 seconds behind the second place person very simple to surmise that he would not have won had they not retired.
George hasn't won a race on his own merit yet.
He was there to pick up the pieces. Zero luck involved with that.
How is Mercedes able to constantly bring all these upgrades to every race, while other teams have to be so conscious of the cost cap? I hope another team or two investigates what they spent at the end of the season.
They used up last year's funds to prepare the car for this year by bringing barely any upgrades during the end of the season. Also, they are bringing very minute upgrades, focussing on drivability over speed. Hence, it works out.
@@shikharsingh2965 I see. I guess it's just an over reaction on my part, because every video out there starts with "Mercedes Bringing Massive Upgrades," (to trounce all their rivals). So those titles tell me they are spending lots of money. I suppose it's just click-bait in order to lure in all the Mercedes fan-boys.
Screw the cost cap anyway. Nothing happened with Redbull.
@@Miles0370 The FIA handed out a $7 million fine and reduced Red Bull's wind tunnel and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) time over a period of 12 months after the team was found guilty of a minor overspend breach, having been 1.6% over the cost cap in its 2021 accounts. So, I would say that Mercedes would not like the same fine, or more, if they are more than 1.6% over the cap and/or knowing that Red Bull was used as an example.
@@InfiniteSuccessAcademy Dude what is 7 million to these people? Like they make a million a week doing nothing. The cost cap caused the 2023 dominate season. Those were very minor set backs to the team.

Wonder if Lewis, is kicking himself about Joining Ferrari as Merc has been improving.
It would be great if Merc was able to constantly do well each race and be competitive for podiums. A bit of luck with P1 this past race for George, but hopeful that this season continues to show promise and have a lot of eventful races. Great job with the commentary!

With out a lot more accidents & errors by the top teams this season I can’t see a path for Mercedes being in the top 3 performing teams this season. I don’t say this to knock Mercedes progress, but it’s taken them seasons to finally understand how to make a solid car. All things being equal I can’t see them consistently competing for championships, weather drivers or constructors, until next season. And that is contingent on them finding a good driver to replace Hamilton
