    I really liked this interview. Despite it being shorter and not having as much detail about Ross' life story (compared to the others), he gave a surprising (to me) amount of insight and knowledge into the early days of Grumps and such, which I found very interesting to hear. Also, that proposal story was beyond cute. Further confirmation that Ross is way past cool.
    Which, incidentally, rekindled my interest in a Holly interview. I know she hasn't been in much, but she's adorable and great and definitely a Grump mainstay for me. Would love to hear more about her journey in life and being a part of the Grump family. :)

  • @restinpeas1284
    @restinpeas1284 7 років тому +64

    I think people say high school is the best time when they've been heavily impacted by adult responsibility. Being an adult so far has sucked for me, and while high school wasn't fun, what I got after graduating was perspective-- things were so simple back then. There was so little to actually worry about and now that I'm expected to function like a regular adult, it's hard. It's stressful. Sometimes it's downright miserable.
    Doesn't help that I've got anxiety, mild depression, and I don't keep up well in learning environments. Maybe I'm an idiot (though my old English grades beg to differ), but things get more complicated when you're an adult and everyone expects you to just do what everyone else does. Get a job you hate, hate life, never have the energy to pursue what you really love-- it's a vicious depressing cycle that for most people it's hard to get out of. The Grump team is lucky. Life is good for them. It's not so good for people like me, but I'll admit that compared to a homeless person I'm doing well enough... just wish life didn't step on me as much as it does. Recently it feels like things are turning around but I've dealt with enough crap in my life at only 22 that I'm skeptical and a bit cynical. Fingers crossed though.

      Darrark are you doing the the things that make you happy

    • @TCM_Hutchie
      @TCM_Hutchie 7 років тому +6

      Darrark if you're anything like me, you'll be happier doing what you love and failing than doing well with a life you dislike, or living by the standards of others. The thing about anxiety is that it really is all in your head, and working at being just a tiny bit braver each day will eventually vanquish it. If you'll let me indulge in telling my story for a bit, it might make you feel less alone. I actually could use a vent right now anyway.
      Up until I was 20, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I'd spent my school years as an intelligent underachiever, usually skiving off rather than honing my skills or doing anything productive. I'd been to college because the school staff kept hounding me about ny future towards the end of my time there. Like a total idiot, I actually signed up to college (first try is free under Scottish law) just to shut up some zealous teachers. The college fucked me over when the main lecturer gave me the wrong passing grade, making me believe I was failing when I was actually just scraping by, so I dropped out and took another failure under my belt. I was in a bad place at this point in life, just 19 years old but I felt I'd wasted every one of those years. I gained some weight which I still haven't managed to lose. I searched for work for over a year, and got only a single interview because it was 2013 and there were no jobs. Didn't hear back from that interview either. I just remember feeling worthless and unnecessary. It was, however, during this time that I eventually had a conversation with my closest friend; someone I'd known since childhood. He convinced me to pursue an ambition which has been my life's work ever since. It still sounds stupid and futile sometimes, even to me, but I had some money left over from college "educational maintenance funds", and from "jobseeker's allowance" - a pair of Scottish government schemes to avoid student debts and poverty being through the roof - so I bought some equipment, gathered some friends and now we do what the Grumps do. I'm now a self-taught video editor, and a yet-to-be-known entertainment personality, I suppose. We launched The Couch Mob on June 6th, 2014, and it has been a very rocky road, but a happy one. Last month we took to Twitch and raised £160.12 for charity.
      I got work with a family business just at the end of 2013 too, (working with family is not as good as it sounds, by the way) and things started looking up. My job funds my hobby which I now want to build into its own business of sorts. I honestly don't give a fuck if it's just a pipe dream and I only have 44 subscribers after 2 years, because I'm doing something I love, and if we're going to have a big break then fantastic. If not, we'll go down swinging. I'll carry the experience for the rest of my days and probably just try again.
      So thanks to anyone and everyone who took the time to read this. If it makes you feel better about yourself or less alone or anything positive at all, then I'm proud to have done even a tiny amount of good today. Happy Grumping, guys.

Had it severely my entire life, 22 now and can honestly say without blaming that it rules my life on a day to day basis. Ugh, my parents had me on Adderall as a kid as well. It's fucking awful. It doesn't narrow your focus on schoolwork, or make you WANT to do Homework or anything, it just makes you feel like a fucking drone all day. It's a miserable sensation.

    • @claustrophone
      @claustrophone 7 років тому +3

      Arcyne I personally take Adderall and I understand that you may have had a bad experience with it but it depends on the person. It pisses me off that there's commonly a negative opinion of adhd medicine where people think it turns kids into zombie while I literally need it to function. For me, it's like my body and mind are a prison that prevents me from actually doing what I know I want to or need to do.

    • @clouds2589
      @clouds2589 7 років тому +3

      Dovid Scheinberg I'm not saying the medicine doesn't work for people who need it, the problem is when i was prescribed it as a kid, a lot of doctors were prescribing it as some for of cure-all for children who just didn't want to do homework. School was boring, and all the stuff they were teaching me i already knew, so i didn't care. My parents took me to the doctor and they prescribed adderall. It was agony, I didn't feel joy, i didn't have an appetite. For people who need it to function, that's one thing, but 90% of those children prescribed were falsely diagnosed for profit.

    I didn't even know these existed, I'm so happy I found these. I really enjoy them.
    Genuinely brings back some spark to me as well! (Rough spot, barely affording food right now. And so much yet to achieve.)

    I look forward to doodle doods every week now, Ross really is talented and should feel proud of that talent. Once I heard his parents were Irish and knowing he's Australian I thought wow an accent should be more prominent but I guess living in America does that as accents dwindle over time. Was really nice to hear more of his accent in this. You can even hear a little twinge of irish in there near the end.

    Man, just now at 27 I got diagnosed with ADHD and it explains a lot of stuff retroactively and gone on Adderall. It's completely flipped my grades around and I'm actually making progress towards finishing college. But my social life has become an absolute train wreck. Makes me wonder if there's a correlation. Then again very different situation than yours but definitely got me thinking.

      Try different medications or a lower dosage. It's constant homeostasis.

    • @Luckeux
      @Luckeux 7 років тому +4

      As persephone said, you should test out more meds and dosage and find which one works best for you. Personally, Vyvanse works best for me but I remember how ritalin would just make me feel like a zombie. Since those meds will always fuck a bit with your social skills, it's really a question of finding which one seems to be the most manageable. Otherwise, I would recommend trying to limit using those meds to when you actually need them.

      But I bet they didn't record/upload in that order.

    I sometimes get these tics in my face like blinking really hard or moving my mouth in weird positions and it makes me feel really self conscious. it mostly happens when I'm tired, but whenever I am talking to people I have to focus on controlling it. hearing that Ross had to deal with something like it makes me feel a little better about myself. thanks Ross

    Funny thing is, first I thought "on one hand, it's not satisfying to just listen to it while doing nothing, on the other hand if I do something else, I would miss out on what they are saying". So I did nothing at first and started to space out, then I stumbled across the tab in my browser with an online shop and once I started online shopping at the same time, I was way more attentive to their talk ^^ It's actually really nice to hear stories while browsing the internet
