"So how did Steam Train start?"
Simple, he bought too many games. Now he has to play them all.
HodgesTheSecond you say it like that isnt actually the reason.... nah im just assuming
And then it was time for steam train
SO ALL ABOARD
As soon as he started talking about his past his accent appeared. It was nice.
Line M B I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed!
Line M B HOLY SHIT IKR
Haha, I didn't think anyone else noticed.
Dunno what y'all talkin bout. His Aussie accent is always present, albeit slightly.
TIAA why is 'xD' still used unironically
"Where were you born?"
"At the age of 6 I was born without a face"
GameToon So he really DOES watch Game Grumps
Obvious ninja yes sir!
Ross- "Yeah i was a pretty normal kid."
Ross 1 minute later "So yeah i was a pretty weird kid."
aren't all kids pretty weird though? :D
@@lilalakritzengel not "drawing with poop on the wall" weird
@@henriktheonly3874 you would be flabbergasted by how common that is among infants
I love how Ross' accent comes back more as he talks about his childhood
OmeguhSaskwach omg ikr
"they will all be dumb and pregnant" Thank you Ross
Arin interviews Danny, Danny interviews Suzy, Suzy interviews Barry, Barry interviews Ross,
...and Ross interviews a jug of milk
Funny, but actually Ross interviews Brian and Brian interviews Arin
Paul Dee actually he will probably interview Arin
Hey guys
Jokes are a thing
Either Ross is going to interview Brian, or maybe Arin if Brian isn't doing it.
Brian should have interviewed Audrey.
Australian accent: oh yeah I worked at Hungry Jack's in high school
Americanish accent: Which is Burger King here
Haha just heard it 21:29
it's funny because got really Australian at time like he was reliving those moments. listen carefully and you'll hear his accent come back
That's so funny because I was thinking the same exact thing lol.
I love it ^^
i noticed he said dickhead (im from aus we say it 24/7)
hearing how integral Ross is to the birth of modern Game Grumps is actually amazing
this video is alot sadder now :c
"Ross believes in me-"*hits end game*
Alyjfly "This is the Ross shot "
NO I HIT END
that moment when Ross gets comfy and you can really hear his accent. OMG. so crazy how much it comes and goes. I love it lol
There's something really funny about the thought of Holly "perving" on Ross' streams lol
Do you still think so after the fiasco with ProJared :D?
Interesting. Never really noticed that when Ross gets really serious and deep into this at certain points that his Australian accent kinda comes out a bit. When he's laughing and being funny, you don't really hear it except in certain words he says. That's kinda really awesome.
16:00 Ross totally started slipping into his Aussie accent
Why does Ross sound extra Australian here
probably because he is Australian
Tom Bosley Experience fuck u got me
s1lverp3nguin the grumps talked about how sometimes he switches back to Australian especially when he meets other Australians
Thats what happens when you live on a certain place for a long time. And you're born there. And you grow there.
***** oh haha wow thanks for that haha wow if only there was a bunch of recorded footage of his voice showcasing his newly-adopted american accent gained since he moved here haha if only am i right
I love when he slips into his accent, good ol' Raussie
It's really funny how reminiscing is an on/off switch for Ross's accent. I kinda like it.
This has been one of the greatest things on this chanel.
I'd love every single one of these interviews
Rodrigo Escobar look up before the grumps on soundcloud and you can listen to all of them
***** Same happened to me. Plus, I liked Danny's constant thoughtful comments.
I know that we're often like "Ross you dumb man" and "Goddammit Ross" has become a staple-thing, but you're still a really cool and thoughtful person. Really nice getting the insight; the part where Jon left must really have been genuinely awful. So yeah, even if you're terrible at interrupting people, you're a great guy, Ross.
Space Pope dude chill, you're the one who chose to read their comment
I would've loved it even more if it was with facecam, but it's still cool getting to know them.
welcome to podcast where is meant to be listen while you do other stuff
At first, I thought a facecam would've been really cool as well, but with that podcast format it's easier to actually listen to what they're saying.
It kinda feels somewhat boring if I don't see stuff moving while they talk.
It's not that their lives and stories are boring, in fact I love when they tell funny stories about their lives or just what they did in general, it's just that I'm so habituated to hearing their voices while they play games.
I looked up Van Helthing after Ross mentioned it and started watching... it was the moment "Hey Now, You're a Rockstar" started playing that I knew I was in for a good time
Rocky Rickaby you mean all star my smash mouth
Isaac Villegas Oh cool, I've been calling that song the wrong name my entire life
I really liked this interview. Despite it being shorter and not having as much detail about Ross' life story (compared to the others), he gave a surprising (to me) amount of insight and knowledge into the early days of Grumps and such, which I found very interesting to hear. Also, that proposal story was beyond cute. Further confirmation that Ross is way past cool.
Which, incidentally, rekindled my interest in a Holly interview. I know she hasn't been in much, but she's adorable and great and definitely a Grump mainstay for me. Would love to hear more about her journey in life and being a part of the Grump family. :)
I learned that Ross is responsible for everything. He is the mystery man behind the curtain.
most enthusiastic start ever. thanks bois
I love hearing ross slip in and out of his accent, it's great
I think people say high school is the best time when they've been heavily impacted by adult responsibility. Being an adult so far has sucked for me, and while high school wasn't fun, what I got after graduating was perspective-- things were so simple back then. There was so little to actually worry about and now that I'm expected to function like a regular adult, it's hard. It's stressful. Sometimes it's downright miserable.
Doesn't help that I've got anxiety, mild depression, and I don't keep up well in learning environments. Maybe I'm an idiot (though my old English grades beg to differ), but things get more complicated when you're an adult and everyone expects you to just do what everyone else does. Get a job you hate, hate life, never have the energy to pursue what you really love-- it's a vicious depressing cycle that for most people it's hard to get out of. The Grump team is lucky. Life is good for them. It's not so good for people like me, but I'll admit that compared to a homeless person I'm doing well enough... just wish life didn't step on me as much as it does. Recently it feels like things are turning around but I've dealt with enough crap in my life at only 22 that I'm skeptical and a bit cynical. Fingers crossed though.
Darrark are you doing the the things that make you happy
Darrark if you're anything like me, you'll be happier doing what you love and failing than doing well with a life you dislike, or living by the standards of others. The thing about anxiety is that it really is all in your head, and working at being just a tiny bit braver each day will eventually vanquish it. If you'll let me indulge in telling my story for a bit, it might make you feel less alone. I actually could use a vent right now anyway.
Up until I was 20, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I'd spent my school years as an intelligent underachiever, usually skiving off rather than honing my skills or doing anything productive. I'd been to college because the school staff kept hounding me about ny future towards the end of my time there. Like a total idiot, I actually signed up to college (first try is free under Scottish law) just to shut up some zealous teachers. The college fucked me over when the main lecturer gave me the wrong passing grade, making me believe I was failing when I was actually just scraping by, so I dropped out and took another failure under my belt. I was in a bad place at this point in life, just 19 years old but I felt I'd wasted every one of those years. I gained some weight which I still haven't managed to lose. I searched for work for over a year, and got only a single interview because it was 2013 and there were no jobs. Didn't hear back from that interview either. I just remember feeling worthless and unnecessary. It was, however, during this time that I eventually had a conversation with my closest friend; someone I'd known since childhood. He convinced me to pursue an ambition which has been my life's work ever since. It still sounds stupid and futile sometimes, even to me, but I had some money left over from college "educational maintenance funds", and from "jobseeker's allowance" - a pair of Scottish government schemes to avoid student debts and poverty being through the roof - so I bought some equipment, gathered some friends and now we do what the Grumps do. I'm now a self-taught video editor, and a yet-to-be-known entertainment personality, I suppose. We launched The Couch Mob on June 6th, 2014, and it has been a very rocky road, but a happy one. Last month we took to Twitch and raised £160.12 for charity.
I got work with a family business just at the end of 2013 too, (working with family is not as good as it sounds, by the way) and things started looking up. My job funds my hobby which I now want to build into its own business of sorts. I honestly don't give a fuck if it's just a pipe dream and I only have 44 subscribers after 2 years, because I'm doing something I love, and if we're going to have a big break then fantastic. If not, we'll go down swinging. I'll carry the experience for the rest of my days and probably just try again.
So thanks to anyone and everyone who took the time to read this. If it makes you feel better about yourself or less alone or anything positive at all, then I'm proud to have done even a tiny amount of good today. Happy Grumping, guys.
I hope it helped. It might look like other people have their shit together, but most of us are still scrambling for a lifeboat rather than smooth sailing.
Darrark I found that a bit to relatable to read! 22 as well and after finishing everything education wise and realising there's nothing at the end is soul crushing, makes me wish I had this perspective years ago
Darrark you know, im amazed how much this mirrors my own early adult years. i would literaly wrote the same thing as you have, word for word. are we the same person lol?
I hope they do more of this stuff.
fairly sure they're running out of grumps.
Eve Edena I meant podcasts in general.
+Eve Edena this is a series that's been done for months. They are just now uploading them to UA-cam. They've been on Soundcloud for a while.
They need to interview Jon, not whining about Jon not being on, I just think it'd be a eye opening experience for newcomers like I was
jon is on the other side of the country doing his own thing i doubt they will interview him
I find it really funny how Ross gets more and more Australian as it goes on 😂
I'm in college now, and the high school thing really made me laugh. "All those people you knew are all dumb and pregnant" is super true, at least from my Facebook page XD
Ross is my favorite grump.
PeridotPenguin you are a minority however I understand where you're coming from he is a cool guy
PeridotPenguin same
my favs are ross and barry.
Ross: I got my poopie and tried to draw a brontosaurus on the wall.
Barry:So you were an artist?
Best interview ever!
I'm going to answer the important question everyone has been wondering about: Yes, Ross shit his pants at a con and it was hilarious.
The Malite wow.... cool
The Malite plz Arin shits his pants on a regular basis
If you're interest Ross will interview Brian & Brian will interview Arin next
Yep
Ross talking about Holly is so sad since they got a divorce
Damn this is the first time I can hear Rosses Australian accent. It's subtle but cool
Listening to these interviews, I've been drawing a lot of parallels to myself (even Ross's story about passing out hand-drawn comics to people, which was lovely to hear). I've always been "that" kinda kid, even now in university-- the inbetweener, the invisible, the one that feels like I must have fucked up somewhere down the line if high school wasn't the "happiest time of my life." I really admire the Grumps and what lives they've made for themselves, so this really gives me a lot of hope for the future.
Ross is best Grump imo.
Would really love a podcast with Arin and Ross talking about growing up with ADHD. Had it severely my entire life, 22 now and can honestly say without blaming that it rules my life on a day to day basis. With medicine (Ritalin/Concerta for I think 15 years) I was exactly the same, just a fuckin' zombie. Without it's like a thousand voices all shoot off every second in my head with no end.
Would be really helpful hearing them both talking about it, I think.
Ross' accent is so prominent in this video. wah
I always think of the King of the Hill episode with Bobby on ADD meds. Same kind of thing but more hilarious. Hes like staring at a fly. In zombie voice "Theres some milk in the fridge thats about to go bad.. And there it goes"
My favorite pair of Grumps doing an interview. I love the 'Before the Grumps' series.
I'm glad that Vernon made this, this is a real nice series that relate to us and also to inspire us to follow our dreams and work through all the bad shit.
Ugh, my parents had me on Adderall as a kid as well. It's fucking awful. It doesn't narrow your focus on schoolwork, or make you WANT to do Homework or anything, it just makes you feel like a fucking drone all day. It's a miserable sensation.
Arcyne I personally take Adderall and I understand that you may have had a bad experience with it but it depends on the person. It pisses me off that there's commonly a negative opinion of adhd medicine where people think it turns kids into zombie while I literally need it to function. For me, it's like my body and mind are a prison that prevents me from actually doing what I know I want to or need to do.
Dovid Scheinberg to each their own i suppose
Dovid Scheinberg I'm not saying the medicine doesn't work for people who need it, the problem is when i was prescribed it as a kid, a lot of doctors were prescribing it as some for of cure-all for children who just didn't want to do homework. School was boring, and all the stuff they were teaching me i already knew, so i didn't care. My parents took me to the doctor and they prescribed adderall. It was agony, I didn't feel joy, i didn't have an appetite. For people who need it to function, that's one thing, but 90% of those children prescribed were falsely diagnosed for profit.
Also you have no appetite at all.
Arcyne Prozac is the same way. didn't exactly make you happy, just made you feel super numb and everything was fuzzy
The grumps are always commenting on Ross' accent coming out, but I myself have never actually heard it until now. Australian Ross finally emerges lol.
Ross is so awesome, I love how much he just is like life is life deal with it.
These interviews are really interesting
That bee is dead Ross. It sacrificed its life just to cheer you up. Its dead. Think about it.
ElegeantFencer Shieeeet
You can hear his accent... I Love it!
Imagine if the last episode out of nowhere is Jon Interviews Arin.
Trujillo Waddup I'd rather Dan interviewing Jon.
...or vice-versa
Trujillo
What is it with everyone's obsession of having Jon back on the show? He left years ago, it's time to let the past be the past and move on.
yeah
Liz Harper: Re- Imagination because Jon was there at the beginning and It'd be cool to have him on for this
Barry's "Hm." when Ross talked about going from class clown to "zombie" kid, fucking reminds me of Danny.
Ross was put there taking animation classes in a college at 13 and I'm 18 being a potato. Good job achieving your dream Ross :3
Nobody XIII go do shit
I didn't even know these existed, I'm so happy I found these. I really enjoy them.
Genuinely brings back some spark to me as well! (Rough spot, barely affording food right now. And so much yet to achieve.)
"Some people might joke that I'm still annoying"
"Some people might joke"
"Might joke"
"Joke"
Bob Ross O'Donovan
Young Arin: "I would really prefer if you would be quiet"
breloom657 speed run cringe
Arin SUUPER hates that version of himself too XD
this is just pokemon art acadamy - the art
I look forward to doodle doods every week now, Ross really is talented and should feel proud of that talent. Once I heard his parents were Irish and knowing he's Australian I thought wow an accent should be more prominent but I guess living in America does that as accents dwindle over time. Was really nice to hear more of his accent in this. You can even hear a little twinge of irish in there near the end.
This was a fab interview =) great job guys
EileMonty oh my god its a popular youtuber! Notice me senpai! Tell me who you are cause i.... i dont know who you are.... notice me..... also nice comment...
Why?
That Gurren Lagann reference from Ross is probably one of the most uplifting things I've heard for a very long time. That anime is very near and dear to my heart.
Ross has such a weird accent, he has an Australian accent on some words and an Irish into others
man i feel really bad for ross
That proposal was fucking gorgeous
Man, just now at 27 I got diagnosed with ADHD and it explains a lot of stuff retroactively and gone on Adderall. It's completely flipped my grades around and I'm actually making progress towards finishing college. But my social life has become an absolute train wreck. Makes me wonder if there's a correlation. Then again very different situation than yours but definitely got me thinking.
Try different medications or a lower dosage. It's constant homeostasis.
As persephone said, you should test out more meds and dosage and find which one works best for you. Personally, Vyvanse works best for me but I remember how ritalin would just make me feel like a zombie. Since those meds will always fuck a bit with your social skills, it's really a question of finding which one seems to be the most manageable. Otherwise, I would recommend trying to limit using those meds to when you actually need them.
Love that Australian accent that Ross has :P First time I've ever heard it
$20 says Ross will interview the next Grump.
Wasn't Brian interviewing someone? Won't he be next?
That's a pretty bad bet to take because all the interviews are already up in order on Soundcloud.
Daniel A I heard Brian is interviewing Arin
They did it in that fashion:
Arin -> Dan -> Suzy -> Barry -> Ross -> Brian -> Arin
But I bet they didn't record/upload in that order.
Jarred Wise $20,000,000
I sometimes get these tics in my face like blinking really hard or moving my mouth in weird positions and it makes me feel really self conscious. it mostly happens when I'm tired, but whenever I am talking to people I have to focus on controlling it. hearing that Ross had to deal with something like it makes me feel a little better about myself. thanks Ross
I love all the grumps but this interview spoke to me most so far (so it might change later). I really appreciate what they are doing with this series. Keep it up guys :)
I love these podcasts, since its not video, i can play my games and just listen to interesting conversations. I don't want these podcasts to end :(
Its insane how all your paths led to Arin whether you grew up with him or met him online, its awesome
"She started perving on me on my livestreams" OMG HOLLY YOU DIRTY BIRDIE ILU
Hi, I'm here from 2021 and it's incredible hearing Ross's accent flow from Australian to Irish to American depending on the context of the story.
I have been thoroughly enjoying these.
*"Not all heroes wear capes."*
I know you guys are interviewing current grumps but I think an interview with Jon would be super intresting
idk why but this vid is lot more sad now
R.I.P. Ross and Barry.
i really like the interviews so far thanks.
Always nice to get an indirect mention from Ross....and Barry! Great interview
You know what? I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna push myself to work harder and become an editor. All because Ross said it was possible and that he believed in me. This is a weird but wonderful feeling.
Megnolia i wish you the best of luck!
I just love Ross and everything about him !
I listen to these interviews whenever I need to zone out (drawing, working, commuting, what not). Best thing is, having listened to This particular interview so many times makes me hear the subtle bits of Australian in Ross’s voice. Like in the words eight, like, yeah, and thought.
Love these interviews, can't wait for the next one!
I've been loving the interviews!!
That surfer dude helped save Ross' carrer.
I humbly thank you surfer guy.
Nice to know that even in Ross's childhood hos parents were like "God damn it, Ross..."
I love this. This interview has been the most interesting so far.
Funny thing is, first I thought "on one hand, it's not satisfying to just listen to it while doing nothing, on the other hand if I do something else, I would miss out on what they are saying". So I did nothing at first and started to space out, then I stumbled across the tab in my browser with an online shop and once I started online shopping at the same time, I was way more attentive to their talk ^^ It's actually really nice to hear stories while browsing the internet
this is the best. i love listening to their journey, it makes me feel like i have strong a future
These are such a cool & great idea. Thanks grump crew!
awesome interview guys! Ross thank ya for effectively being one of the guys who help start most of the things I love from your newgrounds work, to nsp and game grumps as i know it today also doodle doods is one of my favourite parts of the grump channels so thank you for that aswell since i know how much you have to do with it aswell
finally one of my two inspirations telling his individual tale, and my second is right up
"I believe in you."
"Ross believes in me! I have one more shot."
I don't think Ross's belief is good luck.
ross' accent kinda came back
It's something I've noticed with my parents when they talk about their childhoods or go back to where they grew up (they're from Wolverhampton), and I can really hear Ross' accent coming back to him when he's talking about his past.
Love it when he talks for extended amounts of time, his accent sparks up with out fail.
i am really getting into this podcast videos. Keep up the good work grumps!
Kronenberg of let's play shows. Love that phrasing Ross
Ross is super Australian when you let him talk a lot.
The part about Holly was so adorable!
